Darned right! Can you imagine the microphonic problems on a 20' RCA
lead? And I wouldn't pay any attention to the OP's comment about not
using oxygen free cables either.

As for 20' of speaker cable - depending on the speaker cable you can
run into other kinds of problems involving losing power in your speaker
 cable.

Just depends how much of a purist you are and how much you are pumping
down the cable to the speakers.

I doubt very much that you would drop any power on a 20' run, assuming
it is decent cable, and not bell wire, although I have a friend who
will not use anything else on his speakers, and he apparently suffers
no problems with that kind of cable run.

Thanks for the input guys. I have a pair of 30 foot ICs made from Mogami
quad microphone cable. I'm going to order a Touch and cut those cables
down to about 15 feet and give them a try.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Long Interconnect cables

2010-08-03 Thread Waldo Pepper

I have used long interconnects over the years for many setups and had no
problems whatsoever.
I do not see any reason whatsoever why the ability of a Touch to drive
a signal down 20ft of cable should be any different to other devices as
long as the cable is screened and of reasonable quality. i.e. Not Bell
Wire.

Don't bother with any of that oxygen free rubbish as that's just a
sales pitch by those who do not understand.

Long runs of speaker cables are a different matter completely, but is
still very subjective to the listener.

Pioneer PD65 CD player. I also have a vinyl rig. I am considering adding
the Touch to stream FLAK files from my PC. Thanks for your input.

You will really enjoy the difference when you get the Sigs back. Also,
if you can add at least one 2Wq to your system you will be further
amazed. While adding two 2Wq's to a pair of Vandersteen 3A Signatures
makes a poor man's Quatro. I also like driving Ayre gear with tubes
(that best of both worlds deal). My vinyl setup is a VPI Scoutmaster.
And the Manley is a great tube pre-amp in a minimalist setup. But alas,
I am running Balanced all the way: Transporter to VTL to Ayre MX-R. Of
course Manley and VTL all start from the same point, David Manley.

The Touch playing FLAC over your system should sound great. I can
almost guarantee that you will stop using your CDP once all your CDs
are ripped to FLAC.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Long Interconnect cables

2010-07-29 Thread Blazer

Has anyone tried using the Touch (analog outs) at your listening
position for convenience, but with it connected to your pre-amp using
long interconnect cables? In my case, I would need approx 12 to 15 foot
interconnect cables to accomplish this.

Have not tried it that way. Not a big fan of long interconnects,
especially RCAs. The only long one I use is a glass toslink to a A/V
Receiver with built-in DAC.

I have tried a Touch at my listening position though, I like it!

Wish the iPad had a USB Port, because I would buy one in a heartbeat to
use as a Controller.
