No, it can't be disabled. If you don't like the level that it ends up at you can bump the brightness level up a little. They last longer if not driven to max all the time. Sure it can be disabled, but it takes some hacking of the code. I notice the screen brightness dims a bit after ten seconds or so? Any way to switch this off?
