Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Open vpn client on touch

2021-03-16 Thread Pommes

I just bought a gl-mt300n-v2.
I have openvpn server running on my synology nas and openvpn client
running on the gl-mt300n-v2.
Superb solution to connect to my music remotely.
And the gl-mt300n-v2 is powered by the usb of my Squeezebox Touch.
Totally recommend if you would like to use your Touch, and not the
raspberry with PicorePlayer, which does work too with openvpn.
Thanks for the hints!
Regards
Pommes

i would NOT buy something like that...
That becomes very soon another pile in the electronik trashcan..

Openwrt recommended 128 MB or more right now.
Even the very 1st rpis got 256 MB RAM and something like rasbian with
rpivpn is just something everyone can get to run.

Actually I flashed an old router with ddwrt longtime ago to run openvpn
client.
I think I will test it, and if successful buy one of those new tiny
boxes...

There are many functionally similar small routers under similar names
(e.g. travel routers from gl.inet https://www.gl-inet.com/ ) but
availability in your country and ability to work as a client with your
OpenVPN needs to be checked beforehand.

Wow, that is a cheap and small solution.
I will read about this device and then this might be it.
Thank you!

If you don't mind an additional box and using friend's wifi - I think
something like a TP-link nano router (
https://www.tp-link.com/us/products/details/cat-9_TL-WR802N.html )
configured as a Client could provide the VPN (and wireless-n).

Thank you, so you think theoretically it is possible to ssh the open vpn
settings into the touch?
Unfortunately I don’t know much about linux, nor ssh, but maybe someone
with the necessary skills will do the job for us.

I was just asking myself if it would theoretically be possible to add
some kind of open vpn client to the touch,
so I could bring my touch to a friends house and remotely stream to it
from my home network via openvpn.

That's an idea I've been carrying around for a while (even before the
Touch was officially launched). I considered simple ssh port tunneling,
too. Alas, it never happened.

[SlimDevices: Touch] Open vpn client on touch

2019-02-08 Thread Pommes

some kind of open vpn client to the touch,
so I could bring my touch to a friends house and remotely stream to it
from my home network via openvpn.
Anybody who has the skills to provide such thing?

Thank you
