I got this because I wanted the 24/96 capabilities with FLAC. And I didn't want to have to turn on my projector every time to listen to music (I was going through PS3mediaserver and the PS3). I think I'll ultimately get an Ipod Touch to use as a controller. Now I need to figure out why certain songs and albums show up twice and why there are dead spots in some of my files. I used db poweramp to rip them. I'll have to check that attaching the HD to my laptop instead of the Touch. Might be my next set of questions. ;) Thanks again to all! -- crimscrem crimscrem's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37536 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77417 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Wireless or ethernet shouldn't matter. What server are you trying to use, mysqueezebox.com or a local SBS server? If a local SBS server, are you using the SBS that is built-in to the Touch, or one running on a computer or NAS? If you are using the Touch's built-in SBS, it does not support the web browser interface. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77417 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Question about using web remote control
Are you running SqueezeboxServer on a computer or are you using the built in SbS software inside the TOUCH. If you are using the SbS in the touch (i.e., no other computer running with SbS), then there is NO web interface. However, you can install SqueezePlay and then select the touch as a player and control from your computer (where you are running squeezeplay). Or control with iPENG on an iphone/itouch, etc. Download Squeezeplay here: http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.5 -- garym garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77417 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Question about using web remote control
OK. let's take it one step at a time. First, any squeezebox product needs to talk with a squeezeboxserver (SbS). There are basically two ways to do this. One is to run a local version of SbS. A second approach is to connect to the network version of Sbs, which is now called mysqueezebox.com (mysb.com). If you are using the network, mysqueezebox.com approach, you can only do things like listen to internet radio, pandora, etc. You can't listen to your own music files if strictly connected to mysb.com. So I assume you want to listen to your own music. But even if using your local SbS, you'll still need to sign up for a mysb.com account. Within your local computer SbS, you'll need to add those credentials (SbS Settings mysqueezebox.com tab). The Touch does add a twist. The local SbS can now either be on a computer within your home network or the TOUCH itself runs a limited version of the SbS server. I don't have a TOUCH yet, but you should just have to plug your USB drive into the TOUCH and give it some time to scan the drive adding the tracks to the internal SbS system. You can switch back and forth to (1) mysb.com (2) SbS on your local network computer or (3) SbS on the Touch. No need for (1) because as long as you are running SbS locally (own computer or the touch) you get all the same mysb.com stuff. It sounds like you are trying to use the internal SbS software on the touch AND you've installed SbS on a local computer. Make a decision about which approach you prefer. Using the internal touch SbS means you don't need your computer on 24/7. But accessing the Touch via the web is slightly more complicated. With this background, let us know a little more about what you're trying to do, what errors, if any you're getting, etc. and folks here can help. p.s. welcome to the forums. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Question about using web remote control
Sounds like you are running the server on the Touch itself and not really using the server on the PC. Quick way to check it is to see if music still works if the PC with the server is off. The server on the touch doesn't require the PC server to be available, but as the touch is not as powerful as a PC some server features are disabled, such as web interface. IF you want to continue this arrangement you can still download other 3rd party controllers AFAIK such as the ones that work on mobiles such as iPeng on the iPhone. You can also use squeezeplay (beta software) to control your touch from a PC. SqueezePlay is semi-supported software that basically runs a Touch on your pc. (You can also uninstall the server from your PC as you don't need it in this way of working) The other option is to use the server on the PC as well as put the music on the PC (or connect the USB drive to the PC) and then some more features are available to you such as the web interface and more plugins. The disadvantage is that you have to have your PC on to listen to music files. -- lrossouw Louis 'Last.fm' (http://www.last.fm/user/lrossouw) lrossouw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3416 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77417 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Question about using web remote control
It sounds like you're going off in a couple different directions here. If you want to attach a USB drive to the Touch and use its built-in Squeezebox Server, you can do that. It won't require a computer to be running for you to listen to your own music library. But you will have _no_ web interface, because the server that runs on the Touch doesn't have one. Or you can run Squeezebox Server on a PC. That server _does_ have a web interface. Your music library will have be on a disc inside or attached to that PC, or possibly on an NAS or network file server. It can't see the music on the USB drive attached to the Touch (actually, it might be able to, but there would be a very large performance penalty and there's no reason to this when you could simply attach that same USB drive to your PC). -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77417 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Question about using web remote control
Hi Option 1 You can control the touch playing music off the attached hard drive using squeezeplay from the PC. However in this configuration there is no webserver running as the Touch is not as powerful as a PC. SqueezePlay can connect to the server on running on the touch directly talk to it to show the music that is playing etc. You should also be able to listen to music available on the touch using squeezeplay on your pc. I have to add that squeezeplay is not really supported so doesn't always work 100%. The webpage you are seeing is coming from the server running on your PC. You don't need to run this in the above configuration. Option 2 If your music is moved to the PC then you need the server there. You can then tell the touch to connect to the PC server and play music from there. In this setup the touch should be visable on the web page and you would be able to control it thus. You could also still use squeezeplay in this scenario. Moose (windows app by 3rd party) should also allow you to control players. I think it should work with both options though I've only tried it on option 2. And then there is also the mobile apps.
