The default settings shipped with the server are the best, obviously. If you are running SBS on a server (rather than TinySC) you can still use SOX with WAV... I said by default - but with some editing of the custom-convert.conf file it can be done. I don't agree with JS that streaming WAV sounds better than streaming flac. I guess I'm just one of those who can neither hear or measure any difference :-) As for hearing any benefit of native 24/192 over 24/96 via SOX... -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Recommended decoder settings for best sound quality
The best bet is to transcode FLAC to PCM in the server. There are two reasons for this: 1) I and others can hear better sound streaming PCM than when streaming FLAC. Some people hear it some don't. 2) some people are having problems decoding high compression 24/96 LFACs on the Touch, if you stream PCM you don't have the problem. In the file types list scroll down to the section where the left column says FLAC. You will have three lines. The middle column is the stream type. The right column lists the program used for the decoding. You want to select disabled for FLAC and MP3. The PCM line want sot say flac. That means its using the flac codec to transcode FLAC files to PCM and streaming PCM. Could someone please advise the recommended advancedformat decoder settings for best sound quality, particularly for streaming FLAC, both 16/44 and 24/96. An explanation of the decoder settings (eg. native, faad/flac etc, why flac is relevant to AAC) would also be helpful. -- rossb rossb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=38160 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78771 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Recommended decoder settings for best sound quality
The defaults are pretty optimal. There's not much to do when decoding FLAC. It either works or it doesn't, just like opening a ZIP file. Some people claim huge differences with the various volume controls, but the defaults are sane. -- SuperQ SuperQ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2139 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=78771 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
