This might work
Others use it to connect their touch to a USB DAC
Your device holds a USB DAC (even if it's boxed insided active
speakers), so this might work
easy to install, easy to use

 1. SB RCA to minijack - I already use this with SBT and Audioengine A2s

 2. SB spdif to USB using a third party converter cable.

This best option for this would be something like the VAMP or a
wandboard. The work very well with USB speakers.

Thanks for reply. Analogue outs it looks like. SBC DAC is OK anyway.

Just a shame i can't use MM1 internal DAC (which is way better than
internal DAC in PC when playing USB out to MM1s).

Interesting that you can get PC connected usb out to spdif converters,
but not vice versa.

Completely understand that connection to streamer is not same as
connection to PC.

That is pretty easy, as spdif is a simple, one-way link, whereas USB
requires a lot of smart handshaking. A spdif data stream is just audio,
whereas the data over USB can be pretty much anything. So an audio
stream over USB is easy to map to a spdif audio stream, but a spdif data
stream doesn't map into USB data very easily.

In theory as long as the usb DAC was compatible couldn't they work using

I thought you were asking about USB speakers not a DAC. Are these USB
speakers that have a built in DAC? If so, maybe I suppose, since you
are actually feeding a DAC and then the DAC is feeding the speakers.

Well I have a very limited understanding but AFAIK USB speakers would
have to have a DAC of some sort wouldn't they? OP do you have specific
speakers in mind at all?

Not necessarily. A lot of USB computer speakers use the DAC on the
computer's sound card.

Realyy can you send analog signals down the USB cable ?!? huh

Btw the whole idea is bit odd like towing a caravan with your Ferrari ?

yeah, I have no clue about how USB speakers work, but agree it seems odd
to want to connect USB speakers to a TOUCH, unless there's some sort of
higher end USB speakers that I'm simply not aware of There are lots
of self-powered speakers one can connect to a TOUCH. I use some of these
with a Touch and they work very nicely in a medium size room:

I dunno, maybe there is a DAC in these US$10 speakers?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836150064Tpk=CA-2016wb
I assumed that if I could electricity down a USB cable (eg, to charge my
phone or iPod) that I could also send analog audio signals, but I don't
really know. Caught me before my coffee.

They use a 3.5mm jack to connect to the source. USB is power only it
appears.
