It depends on how you installed the existing Squeezebox Server on your
QNAP. The SB Touch requires SbS 7.5.0 or later. How did you install
SC/SBS on the QNAP originally? You may want to look at the QNAP threads
in the 3rd Party Hardware forum.

Oh Bu**er !

I only run 6.5.4 on my TS201. I don't think this NAS ever had the
cojones to run later versions did it.
Looks like time for a new NAS - this is getting expensive !
Vortexbox methinks . . .

Yes, your TS201 will not have enough horsepower to run much beyond
the older SC 6.5.x versions. I upgraded to a TS109 several years ago,
then last year upgraded further to my current TS239. The last change was
the amazing, the response I get with the latest SC 7.x versions has been
amazing, you will find a whole new world opens to you.

In the mean time, while deciding on your next SBS 7.5 host, put some
music on a USB drive, start the Touch's inbuilt SBS, connect your
players to Touch.

If you connect Touch to MySB it should get the latest FW version.

No, the built-in server can't access music files on the network.

If the NAS can export the drive as an NFS share, it probably can. But
it apparently cannot mount a Windows/CIFS/SMB share -- the firmware for
Touch released with 7.5.0 does not include the Samba client software
needed to do so. (Testing methodology: I SSHed to my Touch and tried
'mount' commands for 'smbfs' and 'nfs'. The 'smbfs' command fails
immediately, even for a valid Samba-ized UNC path; the 'nfs' command
returns an RPC connection refused error, suggesting that it would mount
an appropriately configured NFS drive.)

As I've suggested elsewhere, for performance reasons I think you'd want
to use a local SDHC card or USB drive for the cache directory for the
built-in Squeezebox Server instance, so an NFS setup would involve some
geeky Linux config file/command line work.
