Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch can't find network after power outage

Try rebooting the router after a power outage. It helps in getting my
SB Boom reconnected (which also requires a reboot). I really doubt your
Touch needs a Factory Reset to get reconnected if you reboot router &
Touch.

I've tried that at my last attempt :( No success.

Check to see what channel your router is using. If it is Channel 6 try
changing it to 1 or 11 and reconnecting. It sounds as though your router
could be set to Auto for channel selection so after a power outage
reboot it selects what it thinks is the best channel and if that is 6 it
is likely your Touch/Radio/boom will not find the network. Set the
channel to be permanently 1 or 11.

I don't have a solution for you, but can tell you that my system goes
goofy after a power failure, and it is repeatable (it happens as a
result of every power failure), see my thread:
https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?112090-Power-Interruptions-amp-Timezone-Loss

Our power goes out all of the time (wind + tall trees = no power).

On this system I have a PiCore 4.0 with a usb HDD (as a LMS server), and
a touch, boom, and radio as players. What always happens after a power
failure is this:
Touch time screensaver goes dark (assume time data is corrupt or
missing)
Time on boom and radio are wrong, off by hours.
Radio paradise FLAC plugin gets goofy (interactive mode stutters,
regular stream has no artwork or song info)

It seems from your post that you have clock issues as well? You usually
have the clock, do you have the black screen when this happens? It seems
we might have something in common in that regard.

My recovery is a bit of pain, but I have a known method. It's very
similar to uninstalling and reinstalling LMS, rescanning, etc. My path
forward is to upgrade to PiCore 6.0, we'll have to see if that does any
good. I suspect it's something LMS related, tho...

Good luck
Jim

why does 1 or 11 work better than 6?

It shouldn't. This poster for some reason had problems with channel 6
and hypothesized that the TOUCH doesn't like channel 6, but there is
nothing inherently wrong with channel 6 on a TOUCH. One of my TOUCH
players is on Channel 6. (of course, it is well known that one should
try to use 1, 6, or 11, as these are the only channels that don't
overlap a side channel, and using "auto" channel select is not a good
thing.)

edit: and of course if a particular channel is overused nearby, suffers
interference, etc. then it should be avoided. But this is a function of
a person's local network setup and nearby users.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch can't find network after power outage

2020-06-14 Thread Heuer

It happened to me (on one of my Boom's) and despite many attempts I
could not get it to connect to Channel 6. Changed it to 1 or 11 and it
connected immediately. I have seen the same thing when first getting
Sonoff devices connected.

I am using Unifi AP's (x4) with the Unifi Controller and I have just
remotely changed the channel on my Garage AP to 6 and the Boom
immediately disappeared from LMS. Switched it back to 1 and it came back
on line so easily repeatable. A second Boom located in my office on a
different Unifi AP has no problem with Channel 6. There is no channel
interference and none of my neighbours are using channel 6 according to
the Controller:

Not offering a technical reason, simply a possible solution to your
woes. I could take the office Boom to the Garage and see if they both
behave the same way but no reason to do so as I have a working
solution.

I have an eero mesh network, and don't see a way to change the wifi
channel, which may be antithetical to mesh networks in any case.

Eero in the 2.4 MHz band uses Channels 1 and 6. No way to change that so
you could (if you have an Android phone) use WiFi Analyser or Wifiman to
do a spectrum scan and see which channels are being used on each AP.
Alternatively buy a LAN > Wifi adapter for the Radio.

Exactly what I see with a Boom and Radio when I use Channel 6! Try
another make of AP on Ch1 or 11 in your bedroom.

the name i've given the room in LMS. for both Touches, it's just
SqueezeboxTouch.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch can't find network after power outage

2020-06-24 Thread Redrum

netchord, I know alot of the focus has been on wifi channel, but I
wanted to tell you to keep your eyes open to other possibilities.

As I stated, I too have frequent power failures, and when the power
comes up, my system is not completely broken, but crippled. My touch
does not show the time screensaver, it is blank. My radio and boom show
an incorrect time. LMS on a pcp runs with the players, but things act
goofy, rebuffering, etc. The touch forgets it's name (maybe that's
because LMS stored the renamed name?) while the radio and boom remember
their.

When in this state, if I stop and restart LMS, it hangs, forever if I
let it, and I essentially have to rebuild LMS on my PCP, remount the HDD
etc.

I never have to do anything with the players. The sd card of the pcp
might have gotten corrupted, but it doesn't get damaged, as I am able to
restore with the same card.

It was suggested (for me) to see if PcP 6.1 is better, so I updated.
Waiting for the next thunderstorm/high wind event.

I'm sorry I don't have a good solution for you, but I wanted you to know
that I experience the same, and it's not the players

Jim
