[Touch-packages] [Bug 1369222] [NEW] xorg random crash
Public bug reported: I was just watching a youtube video fullscreen in Google Chrome. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1369223] [NEW] Crash report doesn't give return a link to the report sent, nor give any feedback of success/failure
Public bug reported: Not sure Apport is the correct package. When something crashes, e.g. Xorg, a popup appears informing of that and offering the possibility to report the error. However, the issue is that: 1 - it does not give you the slightest feedback of whether the error was reported succesfully. Immediately after clicking on Report, the window closes and syou see nothing else (or you see the reporting questions, such as that below, but never any progress information about the reporting process). 2 - it doesn't provide a link to any publicly accessible information about the reported error. I don't know if such public information is available, if it is not then it should. I don't know if a bug is opened in Launchpad or any other public bugtracker. If it is not then it should. Actually it should definitely offer the possibility to login on Launchpad and file a launchpad bug report (in addition to whatever it already does) if one has an account. 3 - It even goes to the extreme point of nonsense that, if the crash is in Xorg, it asks you the usual question that ubuntu-bug would ask: whether you are willing to do additional debugging work if asked by the developers. Well, suppose I say Yes: how the hell are developers supposed to contact me?? I don't think my email is stored anywhere in the system, so unless it opens a browser and gives me an opportunity to log in on Launchpad how does it know? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1369224] [NEW] rsync preserve permission does not work
Public bug reported: Hi, I am a regular user of rsync on various systems, giving parameters '-prH' or '-prHl' to shift data over to other locations while retaining correct permissions. Today (Ubuntu 14.04.1 64 bits, rsync 3.1.0) I descovered the '-p' parameter is not working. As root I'm copying the contents of the home directory to a new location, but the owner/group is set as root.root, not the intended user. This is incorrect operation, and can be problematic for people who automatically schedule rsync operations. I can work around this (using tar and untar), but that is not as cool/simple/efficient as using rsync. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1287827] Re: wifi not configurable in network-manager showing disabled by hardware switch
I'm a long time Ubuntu user, but still quite new to Launchpad, so please excuse my ignorance. I'm wondering how issues like this one are usually resolved. This appears to me to be a rather serious issue. It involves a popular Lenovo notebook, the most recent Ubuntu, and an essential piece of hardware. A solution appears to be available (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux- Discussion/Yoga-2-13-not-Pro-Linux-Warning/m-p/1517612#M5933), but it involves compiling a kernel module. Not something I think regular users should ideally have to deal with. Is there any way of telling whether this will be fixed, and perhaps even - when? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1287827 Title: wifi not configurable in network-manager showing disabled by hardware switch Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Network manager shows Wifi is disabled by hardware switch. [Test Case] To reproduce: Upgrade from Gutenprint 5.2.7 to 5.2.8~pre1-0ubuntu2 does not update the PPD files of existing queues. To test, create a Gutenprint-based print queue on a system with 5.2.7 then run grep -i gutenprint /etc/cups/ppd/*.ppd and see that the PPD files are of Gutenprint version 5.2.7. Update to 5.2.8~pre1-0ubuntu2 and run grep -i gutenprint /etc/cups/ppd/*.ppd The PPDs are still not upgraded. Update from 5.2.7 or 5.2.8~pre1-0ubuntu2 to 5.2.8~pre1-0ubuntu2.1 and your PPD files get updated to 5.2.8pre1. [Regression Potential] Only change is the timestamp of one file. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1325142] Re: failure to update libpam-systemd in 14.04 due to missing logind init script
Hi Paul, could you provide some more details? I suppose you were using the 'uck-gui' command to remaster a Ubuntu 14.04.1 amd64 image? How are you booting (DVD or USB)? Did you boot right into the Live CD (by choosing Try Ubuntu)? When and how exactly did you get this failure? (In fact while booting? Or after invoking some apt commands or using Software Center in the running Live Ubuntu?) If possible, what happens if you invoke the following command in the running remastered Ubuntu: 'initctl show-config'? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1325142 Title: failure to update libpam-systemd in 14.04 due to missing logind init script Status in “systemd” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “systemd” source package in Trusty: Triaged Status in “systemd” source package in Utopic: Fix Released Bug description: Hi, while running inside an i386 lubuntu 14.04 chroot, upgrading libpam- systemd to version 204-5ubuntu20.2 fails leaving dpkg in a broken state. 'apt-get -f install' from within the chroot will not fix it, but if the build is made bootable and put into a iso/VM you can recover that way in a live session. the problem seems to be the /var/lib/dpkg/info/libpam-systemd:i386.prerm script failing to bring down the logind daemon with 'invoke-rc.d systemd-logind stop', because invoke-rd.d is only looking for the /etc/init.d/ script (doesn't exist) and not /etc/init/systemd-logind.conf (does exist). ? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1369259] Re: /var/lib/apt/extended_states registers packages with the architecture all as the system architecture
Not a bug. Being architecture all or architecture any is a property of the version as a package can change from any to all (and back) between versions. The stanzas in the extended file refer to all versions instead, which means that arch:all is the same as arch:native, so this is correct. Also, where is the bug? The extended file is an internal state file, so as long as we parse it correctly, everything is fine. If you need the info included in that file, ask e.g. apt-mark for it. Nobody knows if the next version of apt would be renaming the file, be binary or use a mysql database to store that info instead (okay, the later is unlikely… as in: Over my dead body!) ** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1369259 Title: /var/lib/apt/extended_states registers packages with the architecture all as the system architecture Status in “apt” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: I'm using Ubuntu 14.10 dev with apt 1.0.8ubuntu1 and I have noticed that all packages that have the architecture all will be registered with the system architecture in /var/lib/apt/extended_states. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1292208] Re: Unity panel should be transparent
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1292208 Title: Unity panel should be transparent Status in Unity: New Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This is not exactly a bug, but more of a wishlist entry. The top panel/global menu bar would look nicer if it was transparent by default. I always use the compiz settings manager to set Unity's panel opacity to 0, because it really does make a big aesthetic difference to the desktop. The fully-opaque, dark-grey menu bar just looks a bit last-decade. Also, when transitioning between the new lock screen (LightDM), or when opening the Unity Dash, the way the panel suddenly switches from being dark grey to transparent is pretty jarring. That's how I feel anyway. So making the panel transparent (not *completely* transparent though, you should still see the bar going across) would not only make LightDM and Ubuntu feel more like one entity, but it would look nicer/more modern, and the transitioning between the Unity Dash and the new lock screen would look more seamless and natural as well. Just a suggestion. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1295909] Re: Unity spread trigger ruins windows and freezes desktop
MY SOLUTION: Recently when i turned the hot corners on my window spread started crashing everything. here's the workaround: 1. Turn off window spread (no don't its awesome) 2. disable hot corner command (if it's conflicting with another command) ###3. install compiz manager then _ unity plugin - on the left side there you'll see use this plugin uncheck the box unity will crash but the window will remain opened. Then check use this plugin again and you'll see it says conflicting key bindings found. disable conflicting keybindings. and you are all SET :) :) :) CAUSES FOR THIS: It seems that multiple command for a single function of unity causes this. for me i had cntrl+super+d - show desktop, then i enabled the hotcorner show desktop and it started crashing on window spread. thanks -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1295909 Title: Unity spread trigger ruins windows and freezes desktop Status in Compiz: Triaged Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in “compiz” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The latest update disabled window spreading and when triggered crashes the desktop. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1323089] Re: wpa_supplicant writes to syslog every 2 minutes
I have connectivity issues with this problem. The only reason I noticed the connectivity issue is because my work VPN disconnects. Otherwise I wouldn't have noticed. So I guess that this is a loss of only a few packets which TCP will definitely recover for most applications. Pinning the BSSID (not just the SSID) through NetworkManager GUI did fix it for me. I run a 2.4ghz and a 5ghz network with the same SSID. I'm pretty sure this is what triggers the issue. Since other OSes are fine with it (including android) this is a bug in either wpa_supplicant or NetworkManager. Since I'm unsure whether people just don't notice the connectivity issue (because TCP recovers so well and UDP is all about being unreliable) I'm with Anders on this one and reluctant to file a new issue. I don't have the time and energy to dig into the source and all but I'm willing to run diagnostics, describe more my setup and try fixes if people are interested in nailing this one. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to wpa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1323089 Title: wpa_supplicant writes to syslog every 2 minutes Status in “wpa” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS wpasupplicant 2.1-0ubuntu1 wpa_supplicant is writing to syslog every couple of minutes.
