[Touch-packages] [Bug 1392529] Re: Error executing scope with long name on PC
Well, the error message pretty much say it all. There is absolutely nothing we can do about the path name limitation, it's baked into the system call interface. (It's a shocking design, but that's just how it is.) This is what takes the path name over the edge: rpadovani/scope-dev-endpoints.USoi22 I suspect that this is added by the scope tool. Making this shorter would help to keep things below the limit. I don't know why you are seeing this on the laptop but not the desktop. Most likely, the generated pathname is shorter for some reason, possible due to the pseudo-random suffix? ** Also affects: unity8 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity-scopes-api in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1392529 Title: Error executing scope with long name on PC Status in “unity-scopes-api” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I'm developing a scope, but I have this error after the launch, and I'm not able have any response by any query: com.ubuntu.developer.rpadovani.discerningduck_discerningduck-c query(): unity::scopes::MiddlewareException: Socket path name too long (max = 107): /tmp/rpadovani/scope-dev-endpoints.USoi22/priv/com.ubuntu.developer.rpadovani.discerningduck_discerningduck-c The interesting part it's I have two computers, a desktop and a netbook, and I have the error only on the netbook. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1392637] [NEW] Cannot boot with newly installed systemd if /tmp/ is filled with files
Public bug reported: On a new lubuntu 14.10 install, after installing a bunch of new packages, I rebooted the machine and it stalls on startup. It stays on the four dots of plymouth (not the graphical version). After trying various options in rescue mode, I end up understanding that the boot system has switched to systemd by looking at /var/log/dpkg.log (attached). I then tried init=/lib/systemd/systemd in grub without quiet and splash and found that it was blocking on a start job is running for Create Volatile files and directories. A search on the internet later, I found that the problem was solved by this approach : http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=10t=118008 So, in rescue mode, I did a mv /tmp/ to /fulltmp/ (an ls wouldn't return so I'm guessing the /tmp/ is really full and the disk is not rocket fast). I recreated /tmp and did a chmod 1777 /tmp, reboot and it works! While describing this, am not entirelly sure upstart is exempt from this bug (how do I check which init was used after I've booted ?) [Touch-packages] [Bug 1392642] [NEW] Daemons are restarted in the current session cgroups
Public bug reported: (forwarded from the relevant bug report raised in Debian BTS and adapted for upstart as PID1) Daemons which are not spawned via an upstart job (eg. those with initscripts, ifupdown hooks and similar) are not detached from the current logind session cgroups. This causes the session to linger in the closing state until the background processes are either terminated or manually moved by root into the root cgroups, so seat ACLs are not released. A (very crude) workaround on Debian Jessie is using cgm movepidabs / $$ to break out of the current session before performing any administrative action which could result in a daemon (re)start, but cgmanager is not installed by default on Trusty and the version of cgm shipped with it lacks the movepidabs subcommand (even though the MovePidAbs method in the DBus interface does exist). Note that this affects anything that uses service, invoke-rc.d, ifupdown hooks (like ifup on PPPoE links) or initscripts directly. It stays on the four dots of plymouth (not the graphical version). While describing this, am not entirelly sure upstart is exempt from this bug (how do I check which init was used after I've booted ?) [Touch-packages] [Bug 1392297] Re: resolvconf 1.69ubuntu1.1 breaks network install
Hmm, I can't connect the bug description to the actual upload, a debdiff attached. Steps to reproduce using https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf: dget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/resolvconf_1.69ubuntu1.dsc dget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archive/primary/+files/resolvconf_1.69ubuntu1.1.dsc debdiff resolvconf_1.69ubuntu1.dsc resolvconf_1.69ubuntu1.1.dsc The only change was to add a preinst rule when upgrading from 12.04 LTS's resolvconf version to 14.04 LTS, to add a symbolic link to the correct location. And that only in the case if resolvconf is already installed on the system, is of lesser version than 1.64 (meaning the 12.04 LTS's version) and if the /etc/resolv.conf file does not exist in the first place. For other cases like new installations there were no changes. This closed the bug #1308378. What am I missing? ** Attachment added: diff.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/resolvconf/+bug/1392297/+attachment/4260447/+files/diff.txt ** Changed in: resolvconf (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to resolvconf in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1392297 Title: resolvconf 1.69ubuntu1.1 breaks network install Status in “resolvconf” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: We are experiencing problems with Ubuntu 14.04 network installations, when using the 1.69ubuntu1.1 version of resolvconf. With this version the file /etc/resolv.conf gets reset to an empty file (does only include just the standard resolvconf comments) during the installation of the resolvconf package. After that the name resolution doesn't work anymore and the subsequent installation steps fail. If we use the 1.69ubuntu1 version, everything works fine. If I make a diff of both package contents, the most significant change seems to be the inclusion of a new Sys-V init script, which (besides other things) removes the contents of the resolvconf runtime directories when called with the option start, and the postinst script calls invoke-rc.d resolvconf start at the end (included by dh_installinit), which I think should do nothing during the installation because of policy-rc.d (right?), but I wonder if it actually get's called and removes the resolv.conf file that got migrated to the runtime directories earlier in the postinst script. At least that would explain our problems, because I don't really see anything else, that could cause this problem. I see that the inclusion of the new init script is coming from debian, and they call the dh_installinit with the option --no-start in debian/rules, while the Ubuntu package calls the dh_installinit only with the option -r. And debian inserts the debhelper code a lot earlier in the postinst script. Could this be what's causing the problem? As soon I have more time, I will try to debug this further and provide more information. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1236203] Re: [greeter] [indicators] Design requests that the clock is shown in 24 hour mode by default (i.e. they don't want to see the AM/PM part)
Defaulting to 24-hour time seems quite reasonable if (like Olga, or me) you've spent years in a country where 24-hour time is common. But if you haven't, it seems daft. With the clock in the status bar, we similarly had an edict that it should always show 24-hour time, as a way of saving space. The American indicator engineers refused, on the perfectly reasonable grounds that except for people in the military, hardly any Americans would understand it. So we continued with the previous design: time display is tied to your locale, which in System Settings is called Display language because that's ~99% of its visible effect. Of course, not being able to change the time display without also changing the display language is also daft. It's a decades-old problem stemming from Ubuntu's reliance on the GNU locale system, which assumes that every single person using a particular locale wants exactly the same settings for time display, date display, currency display, alphabetizing, and number formatting. Windows, Mac OS, and iOS have always been better at this. I've just reported bug 1392699 on fixing it for Ubuntu. In the meantime, I suggest that the Clock app include its own 12-/24-hour setting. This is what we did for the menu bar clock on Ubuntu for PC. (The setting sits in System Settings, for want of a better place, but it explicitly applies only to the clock in the menu bar.) One way of doing this would be for tapping on the clock face to toggle not just between analog and digital, but between analogue, 12-hour digital, and 24-hour digital. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1236203 Title: [greeter] [indicators] Design requests that the clock is shown in 24 hour mode by default (i.e. they don't want to see the AM/PM part) Status in Ubuntu UX bugs: Fix Committed Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: As per the subject. Workaround: install the https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux- lts-utopic kernel. $ cat /proc/version_signature Ubuntu 3.13.0-37.64-generic 3.13.11.7 Steps to reproduce: 1. adjust /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/base to have: ptrace peer=@{profile_name}, 2. sudo apt-get install docker.io 3. sudo docker pull ubuntu:trusty 4. Run 'ps' inside docker: $ sudo docker run -i -t ubuntu:trusty bash root@5039d725a41d:/# ps ... root@5039d725a41d:/# exit $ Then observe the following denials on the host, which should have been addressed in the rule added in step 1: Nov 7 13:43:42 sec-trusty-amd64 kernel: [24258.018580] type=1400 audit(1415389422.303:68): apparmor=DENIED operation=ptrace profile=docker-default pid=27542 comm=ps requested_mask=trace denied_mask=trace peer=docker-default Nov 7 13:43:42 sec-trusty-amd64 kernel: [24258.020832] type=1400 audit(1415389422.307:69): apparmor=DENIED operation=ptrace profile=docker-default pid=27542 comm=ps requested_mask=read denied_mask=read peer=docker-default Nov 7 13:43:42 sec-trusty-amd64 kernel: [24258.020893] type=1400 audit(1415389422.307:70): apparmor=DENIED operation=ptrace profile=docker-default pid=27542 comm=ps requested_mask=read denied_mask=read peer=docker-default Using 'ptrace peer=docker-default,' also did not work. Ubuntu 14.10 works as expected (note, the policy is different on 14.10 and it already has the rule from step 1). Ubuntu 14.04 with the linux-lts- utopic backport kernel also works (from trusty-proposed: sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.16.0-25-generic linux-image-3.16.0-25-generic linux-image-extra-3.16.0-25-generic). Note, docker is different than most applications in that it embeds its policy inside the docker binary and this binary when launched as a daemon (ie, via the upstart job) will unconditionally write out the policy to /etc/apparmor.d/docker-default. As such, to modify the policy: 0. install docker.io and pull a trusty image # only has to be done once 1. update /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/base to have the new ptrace rules 2. sudo stop docker.io # 'docker' on 14.10 3. sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/docker 4. sudo rm -f /etc/apparmor.d/docker /etc/apparmor.d/cache/docker 5. sudo start docker.io # 'docker' on 14.10 6. Run 'ps' inside docker: $ sudo docker run -i -t ubuntu:trusty bash root@5039d725a41d:/# ps ... root@5039d725a41d:/# exit $ (Docker just added a way to specify an alternate existing profile in https://docs.docker.com/reference/run/#security-configuration). Public bug reported: On lubuntu 14.10, after a boot problem described here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1392637 I was trying to find out what generated a huge number of files in /tmp. Although it is difficult to even ls into this directory. find . ended up starting to list some files (deleting those files is being difficult too). I ended up looking at one of them and it seems that cups (or the lubuntu default printer assistant) is the culprit. user:fulltmp$ file ./546285ff50f53 ./546285ff50f53: symbolic link to `/etc/cups/ppd/freebox.ppd' What I did is the following : I tried to add a network printer (named freebox) using the printer assistant, this gave me some errors such as cups failed with the following message : Success (if memory serves). The printer would not be added, so I ended up adding it directly through the cups web interface, which worked. Sorry I do not know which step could have generated this huge number of files. Am deleting them as we speak using an rsync trick I found here https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/37329/efficiently-delete-large- directory-containing-thousands-of-files (but it's still been a few hours). Kill Here map, and restart it What should happen: you should not have access anymore (and should not see a prompt) What happens instead: the app still has access to your location, as shown in the logs: I1030 16:15:38.167752 3100 cached_agent_glog_reporter.cpp:32] CachedAgent::authenticate_request_with_parameters: Application pid: 27975 Application uid: 32011 Application id: com.nokia.heremaps_here Cached request: Request(from: com.nokia.heremaps_here, feature: 0, when: 1414682114882519283, answer: granted) I confirmed that the trust store had recorded the authorization change as in: phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ sqlite3 ~/.local/share/UbuntuLocationService/trust.db select * from requests 1|unconfined|0|1414098093331252474|1 2|com.nokia.heremaps_here|0|1414682114882519283|1 3|com.nokia.heremaps_here|0|1414682131206341515|0 From a user's perspective: Despite having explicitly rejected trust to an application, the app would still be able to access services. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1140716]
I am also experiencing this, on a Gentoo system running on a ThinkPad T440s. I'm not doing anything related to XBMC, simply using xrandr for multihead. The interesting thing is that DRI works fine on my laptop screen (glxgears reports 60fps, which is the refresh rate of my screen), but breaks when I move a window trying to use DRI (e.g. Chrome, glxgears) to the external monitor connected to the mini Display Port output. I see this stuff in dmesg: [ 3561.424762] [drm:ring_stuck] *ERROR* Kicking stuck wait on blitter ring [ 3561.424770] [drm] GPU crash dump saved to /sys/class/drm/card0/error [ 3561.424772] [drm] GPU hangs can indicate a bug anywhere in the entire gfx stack, including userspace. [ 3561.424774] [drm] Please file a _new_ bug report on bugs.freedesktop.org against DRI - DRM/Intel [ 3561.424776] [drm] drm/i915 developers can then reassign to the right component if it's not a kernel issue. [ 3561.424778] [drm] The gpu crash dump is required to analyze gpu hangs, so please always attach it. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1387711] Re: Unity doesn't respect NET_WM_ALLOWED_ACTIONS
In that case, I have no idea how I'm supposed to remove allowed actions using this atom. Reading the specification makes me think that passing a list that doesn't include _NET_WM_ACTION_RESIZE should cause it to be removed from the list: 'Atoms present in the list indicate allowed actions, atoms not present in the list indicate actions that are not supported for this window. The Window Manager MUST keep this property updated to reflect the actions which are currently active or sensitive for a window.' If the property change isn't reflected, maybe it's an xorg bug instead? Or maybe the properties are getting (re-)initialized by the decorator when the window is mapped? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1387711 Title: Unity doesn't respect NET_WM_ALLOWED_ACTIONS Status in Unity: Incomplete Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: According to http://standards.freedesktop.org/wm-spec/latest/ar01s05.html : Atoms present in the list indicate allowed actions, atoms not present in the list indicate actions that are not supported for this window. However, if I set NET_WM_ALLOWED_ACTIONS to a list not containing NET_WM_ACTION_RESIZE (along with the MAXIMIZE atoms), I can still resize/maximize the window using the mouse. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1392615] Re: OA sign-in should not block
Firstly, no, I don't think this is YouTube specific. Haven't yet gotten around to looking into this issue but I would expect the same behaviour for any scope using OA. Secondly, bare in mind that the splash screen only shows up when the access token held for a particular scope has requested (it hasn't yet got it, or it has expired). If you want to recreate the splash screen issue do the following: 1. Go to Settings-Accounts. 2. Remove your Google account(s) (if you have any). 3. Add your Google account. 4. Open the newly created Google account and enable Youtube. 5. Go to the Youtube scope (if favourited, you may need to enter a space into the search bar) This is because the scope has not yet gotten the token from the OA backend at this point. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity-scopes-api in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1392615 Title: OA sign-in should not block Status in “unity-scopes-api” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: If I login with my Google account and authorise YouTube access it appears that when I get 'near' to the Video scope (i.e. which includes YouTube) the Dash starts to become unresponsive. If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) = linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1310633 Title: [Acer Aspire X1300] Mouse and eventually keyboard freeze Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I've tried upgrading and fresh installs of 14.04 several times. Am deleting them as we speak using an rsync trick I found here https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/37329/efficiently-delete- large-directory-containing-thousands-of-files (but it's still been a few hours). The only size evaluation I have of this fulltmp is through ls -alh / which reports 262M. 262M of symlinks, anyone estimate how many symlinks that makes ? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1236203] Re: [greeter] [indicators] Design requests that the clock is shown in 24 hour mode by default (i.e. they don't want to see the AM/PM part)
This bug is not the root of the problem. As Matthew described in his #5 comment, users have to be able to choose the time format. Therefor he filed the new bug, describing the need for a visible switch in system settings. Until we fix this though, we should follow the per-locale distinction, meaning: If I am in e.g. the USA, my clock will show either 9:45am or 9:45pm. If I am in e.g. the UK, my clock will show either 9:45 or 21:45. ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Assignee: Benjamin Keyser (bjkeyser) = Matthew Paul Thomas (mpt) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity8 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1236203 Title: [greeter] [indicators] Design requests that the clock is shown in 24 hour mode by default (i.e. they don't want to see the AM/PM part) Status in Ubuntu UX bugs: Invalid Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: As per the subject. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1384394] Re: /etc/network/interfaces: dns-nameservers entries for bridge br* interfaces are ignored i.e. they are not listed in /etc/resolv.conf when invoking ifup comman
I gather that you want to use the fact that the resolver happens to try one address after another, in the order that they are listed in resolv.conf, as a way of giving precedence of one domain name system (the service provided over the br* interfaces) over another domain name system (the one serving the Internet and accessible by the forwarder on your machine at 127.0.1.1). That's not how DNS or the resolver were meant to be used and hence that is not implemented by the default system configuration. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1392699] Re: Can't change locale settings (e.g. language, 12/24-hour time, date format) independently
As things stand now, yes, we'd need to restart the app. For the greeter and indicator to notice, we might need to restart the shell, so more or less restart the phone. We're basically in the same boat as changing display language. Whether it makes sense to fix to be able to dynamically react to such a change... in real life I'd say it's a moot problem, as people never change that setting once they're through with it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-ui-toolkit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1392699 Title: Can't change locale settings (e.g. language, 12/24-hour time, date format) independently Status in “libc” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “ubuntu-system-settings” package in Ubuntu: New Status in “ubuntu-ui-toolkit” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: A. What should happen: You can. Since Ubuntu has existed, it has used the GNU locale system. This system assumes that every single person using a particular locale wants exactly the same settings for time display, date display, currency display, alphabetizing, and number formatting. http://www.gnu.org/software/libc/manual/html_node/Effects-of- Locale.html Windows, Mac OS, and (to a lesser extent) iOS have always been more flexible: setting a locale sets appropriate defaults for these settings, but you can also change them individually. Ubuntu should do the same. This might involve changing the locale system itself, or it might involve changing all relevant toolkits so that they ignore the locale system when appropriate. It would also involve adding settings in System Settings to customize the individual locale details. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1387711] Re: Unity doesn't respect NET_WM_ALLOWED_ACTIONS
Ok, I've given another read to the specs, and well, this atom as most of the NET_WM_* atoms must be filled by the window manager, to notify people around (in the old days where each process/component was an element of the shell) about what actions it can support for the given window, and it has not to be set by the window itself. In fact your example works only if you launch it with no window manager set. If an app doesn't want to be resizable, it should inform the WM using another protocol (and in this case the _MOTIF_WM_HINTS) as shown in the attached example (setting that hint the WM will update correctly the NET_WM_ALLOWED_ACTIONS). ** Attachment added: allowed-actions-mwm.c https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1387711/+attachment/4260539/+files/allowed-actions-mwm.c ** Changed in: unity Status: Incomplete = Won't Fix ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1387711 Title: Unity doesn't respect NET_WM_ALLOWED_ACTIONS Status in Unity: Won't Fix Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: According to http://standards.freedesktop.org/wm-spec/latest/ar01s05.html : Atoms present in the list indicate allowed actions, atoms not present in the list indicate actions that are not supported for this window. A signature mechanism can protect against internal network faults, storage faults, and provide assurance months or years later that an uploaded package was uploaded by someone in control of a corresponding private key.
