This doesn't match the traditional behaviour of GDM. A common use case for timed login is kiosk setups where the greeter should never be displayed for any significant amount of time; this is currently impossible to set up with LightDM. [Test Case] 1. Setup LightDM to do a timed login 2. Wait for timeout (session starts) 3. Log out of session Expected result: The session is started again after the timeout. Observed result: The greeter is show forever. [Regression potential] There is some risk that someone might have been relying on the existing behaviour. The assumption is that most timed login users would prefer the new behaviour. There is a small risk that these changes may have broken something else, this has been reduced by using the regression tests. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1400854] Re: Weather scope not shown if WiFi is disabled and cache is empty
I could not reproduce this on vivid 50 on mako. But the scopes seem to disappear / time out occasionally, just not the weather channel for me. The first boot with 3G only, I slowly browser through one scope at a time, letting it load. The video scope I needed to pull down twice before it loaded, otherwise scopes worked (note that I didn't browse to them after flashing before disabling wifi). Then after removing the cache and rebooting, I needed to do extra refresh to Music scope because on the first (automatic) load try it loaded only texts, not images. Video I needed to refresh too. Ubuntu Store was empty, and unlike on the first boot with 3G only it didn't load at all despite refreshes. Youtube and Weather Channel scopes (also favorites) consistently showed their content for me. On rtm + mako, latest image 146 + apt update apt dist-upgrade to get the latest updates including Qt base update for bug #1357321: First boot with 3G only (before, scopes not browser at all after flashing with --bootstrap), all scopes loaded fine with images (apps, music, video, youtube, weather channel, ubuntu store). Second boot, after rm -rf .cache/unity8-dash, mostly the same but Popular tracks on Grooveshark in Music scope did not get the images. Third boot, after another rm -rf .cache/unity8-dash, same as second boot but I needed to refresh the Ubuntu Store to get images. Fourth boot, after another rm -rf .cache/unity8-dash, I waited a bit for the phone to be in 3G network as usual (ca. 10 seconds after entering PIN), but then I quickly browsed through all the scopes. This time it first seemed music scope failed to load images, but even though the progress bar spinning had ended it soon loaded the images. Youtube scope was empty, but fixed by doing a pull-down. Other scopes had their images loaded up correctly. --- All in all, rtm seems to work better for me than vivid on 3G only. It also seems to work a lot better than a few weeks ago (when I was already testing the Qt update) and I had more problems loading scope images with my slow 256kbit/s limited SIM. Back then, others reported no problems at all after installing the Qt update. Maybe some timeout / delay fixes in the scopes landed since then to help with slower connections. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity-scopes-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1400854 Title: Weather scope not shown if WiFi is disabled and cache is empty Status in unity-scopes-shell package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: 1) Disable WiFi and ensure only 3g data is enabled 2) Clear the unity8-dash cache (rm -rf .cache/unity8-dash/) 3) Restart the device 4) Notice 'The Weather Channel' scope is not available Note I have 'The Weather Channel' as one of my 'favourite' scopes. $ system-image-cli -i current build number: 146 device name: mako channel: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/devel-proposed alias: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed last update: 2014-12-09 14:08:58 version version: 146 version ubuntu: 20141209 version device: 20141119 version custom: mako-1.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-scopes-shell/+bug/1400854/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Unbelievable. Now, after 2 years and a half waiting for this to be fixed, and without hearing a thing from any developer, it TURNS OUT THERE'S A SETTING for this... IN THE WRONG PLACE, which you would never find unless you google for it. In Personal File Sharing there's a checkbox Receive files over bluetooth. Hiding the splash screen is great for 50% of the situations that it pops up, but there is a point where its actually nice to see that something is happening. With scopes, after the OnlineAccountsClient::Setup class returns from exec(), the shell then calls signon_auth_session_process_async() to request an access token. Thats when seeing the splash screen is useful as the user can see that something is still happening. With that slash screen hidden, the focus will be returned to the scope without any indication that the sign on process is still busy. Could we have the OnlineAccountsClient::Setup::exec() method execute the auth session itself before returning / sending the “finished” signal? That way you'll stay on the setup screen until the oauth token has been granted, hence returning to the scope when all is ready to go. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1372061] Re: SMS notification: time format not translatable
Currently in unity8 we rely on indicator-datetime translations for time string formats; but since these are no longer in sync with the one's used in unity8, it's not working. I'm moving the time formatter into the sdk where the translations will be done. Everything (messaging alarm/events) should be passing around time stamps rather than time strings, which can be formatted translated by the UIs inconsistently. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to telephony-service in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1372061 Title: SMS notification: time format not translatable Status in the base for Ubuntu mobile products: Confirmed Status in Ubuntu Translations: Triaged Status in telephony-service package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu RTM: Triaged Bug description: See the attached screenshot. [Touch-packages] [Bug 502642] Re: .ts files always get recognized as application/x-linguist and never as video/mp2t (mpeg transport stream)
I reported this bug and it was fixed in March 2010. If you see new problems then please feel free to open a new bug report! Describe the exact situation: does it fail with local ts-files? or only on network shares (samba)? Are the files encrypted or playable with your videoplayer? Do you use Nautilus or another file browser? Add version numbers of everything, ect... And leave a comment here with a link to your new bug report to help affected people follow you. To solve it yourself try my final patch from comment #20. I just checked my Linux Mint 17.1 which is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS: its file browser Nemo (= Nautilus clone) does recognize my ts-files correctly as MPEG-2 transport stream, locally and remote through NFS. I have no samba network shares. My ts-files were recorded by my settop- box and are not encrypted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to shared-mime-info in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/502642 Title: .ts files always get recognized as application/x-linguist and never as video/mp2t (mpeg transport stream) Status in shared MIME database: Fix Released Status in shared-mime-info package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in Baltix GNU/Linux: New Bug description: Binary package hint: shared-mime-info I checked Hardy, Jaunty and Karmic: *.ts files are always mapped to application/x-linguist by /usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml. Assuming that your username is fritz, log in via a TTY and run these commands: sudo mv /home/fritz /home/fritz.old sudo mkdir /home/fritz sudo cp -rT /etc/skel/ /home/fritz sudo chown -R fritz:fritz /home/fritz That creates a fresh home folder, while the old contents is kept in /home/fritz.old. Then you should be able to log in as your user, and can move contents from /home/fritz.old to /home/fritz as you see fit. Please let us know if that helps. ** Changed in: lightdm (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1400967 Title: Cannot open my session graphically in Lu 14.04 PPC Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I am having a problem on my iBook G4 running Lu 14.04.1 . . . after running a recent update/upgrade with only 3 or 4 items listed, dbus was one I remember . . . screen went black . . . tried to do something in TTY console to restart . . . then wound up shutting down. Previously in 14.04 it was adjustable via a slider in Ubuntu Control Center and via the keyboard buttons (so there is driver and keyboard support for this laptop). Now the keyboard buttons as well as the slider have no effect and the brightness defaults to 100% which is on this device about five times brighter than the comfortable level, and strains the battery. However about 1 in 20 bootups/logins, the brightness is adjustable, but when I logout/login again in the user session, it might again become locked to 100%. We have for example a D-Bus service (ubuntu-system-settings-online-accounts) which is a QGuiApplication, but creates QWindows only as client requests arrive. In the common case, this works fine because the service is generally started when a window needs to be displayed, but we are now preparing for implementing trust session support, and that would require either this bug to be fixed, or a deeper refactoring of our code. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1399900] Re: screen brightness cannot be changed anymore
Before login can you change the brightness using keyboard buttons? ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1399900 Title: screen brightness cannot be changed anymore Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: The screen brightness does not reliably respond to adjustments anymore since 14.10 release. I have the suspicion that it depends on the loading of desktop configs or the time I wait before typing my password to login. If I single-click on an Ubuntu Unity Launcher Tile, I expect that to launch the application. It only does so if I can click--release extremely rapidly (less than one tenth of a second - who can measure?). At my normal click--release timing, the action is interpreted as click--hold, so the Tile just wobbles (preliminary to being moved in/from the Launcher) and the application is NOT launched. For personal reasons, I am not able to click--release any faster. There must be many other people (older, handicapped, etc) in the same situation. We need to be able to reset the threshold between click--release and click--hold to get satisfactory functionality with Unity. In the same way everybody can already reset the timing for double-click to suit their equipment physiology. The same problem occurs with Window Menus in Unity (with Menus on Windows) where a slowish single click fails to open the Menu is interpreted as a desire to move the Window. For information, MS Windows 8.1 works perfectly for me, with the same hardware... [Touch-packages] [Bug 1319118] [NEW] Using caps or symbols causes loss of focus
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After the upgrade to 14.04 some applications show similar symptoms when I try to write an uppercase letter or a symbol: 1. In Firebug and Chrome DevTools, while editing HTML or CSS, the edition loses focus and nothing is written. 2. In the properties editor inside Eclipse, the cursor goes to the begin of the line before the letter or symbol is written. I tried to use Sticky-Keys and the problem persists. I reactivated CapsLock to mitigate the problem for uppercase letters. If I paste it from somewhere else, it works. ** Affects: unity Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Using caps or symbols causes loss of focus https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1319118 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1318863] [NEW] unity dash loses ability to search for applications
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Every so often, about once a day (I haven't identified a trigger for this behaviour), the unity dash loses the ability to search for applications. I can open the dash and type, say firefox and nothing shows up. Rebooting does not seem to fix the problem. However if I type, as recommended here http://askubuntu.com/questions/125843/dash-search-gives-no-result (note this is a slightly different bug, I can still search for files and the like): rm ~/.local/share/zeitgeist/activity.sqlite unity --reset Unity restarts and searches for things normally. Somewhat to my annoyance a lot of settings get lost, for instance the custom sizing of my launcher icons. Fortunately, I can keep working, but I'd like this problem to go away if possible. I am running Ubuntu 12.04 Kernel 3.2.0-58-generic I am running the kernel released by siddhu in this bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1093217 because it fixes a problem where the computer hangs while booting. ** Affects: unity Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Tags: bot-comment dash unity -- unity dash loses ability to search for applications https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318863 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1401136] [NEW] [messaging-app] selection toggle doesn't unselect items in main view
Public bug reported: steps to reproduce build r172 1. launch messaging app, make sure your landing view has several conversations stored 2. long press on any list item 3. check boxes appear next to the list items and you should be able to select them individually (try it out) 4. now tap the box + tick icon in the header to select all items at the same time 5. tap it again Expected result: As you were able to select all items with one tap on the box + tick icon, a second tap should unselect them Actual result: The 2nd tap on the box + tick icon in the header does not unselect all list items as though. Ideally the icon in the header should toggle: a) square with tick = select all b) empty square = unselect all Currently it works correctly in the Address Book and Phone app, apart from changing icon in the header. ** Affects: messaging-app Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: ubuntu-ux Importance: High Assignee: Olga Kemmet (olga-kemmet) Status: Triaged ** Affects: messaging-app (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: ota-1 rtm14 ** Also affects: ubuntu-ux Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: messaging-app Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Status: New = Fix Committed ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: ubuntu-ux Assignee: (unassigned) = Olga Kemmet (olga-kemmet) ** Description changed: steps to reproduce build r172 1. launch messaging app, make sure your landing view has several conversations stored 2. long press on any list item 3. check boxes appear next to the list items and you should be able to select them individually (try it out) 4. now tap the box + tick icon in the header to select all items at the same time 5. tap it again Expected result: As you were able to select all items with one tap on the box + tick icon, a second tap should unselect them Actual result: The 2nd tap on the box + tick icon in the header does not unselect all list items as though. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1397483] Re: Unity restores windows to random workspaces on system resume
** Changed in: unity Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1397483 Title: Unity restores windows to random workspaces on system resume Status in Unity: Confirmed Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: When I suspend and resume my latop, my windows, which were originally all in one workspace, are restored to different workspaces (apparently at random). For windows not in the current workspace after resume, the unity launcher indicates that they are running, but clicking on them has no effect (it doesn't bring the window to the foreground). These windows also do not appear in the task switcher so you can't switch to them. If I have workspaces enabled, this is annoying but can be manually corrected by showing all workspaces and dragging the windows to the current workspace. If I have workspaces disabled, the windows on the disabled workspaces cannot be accessed at all. I would expect the windows to be restored to the same workspace they were in before suspend (especially if workspaces are disabled), and even if this were not the case, clicking on their icon in the launcher should display them as normal. IIRC this is an issue in Ubuntu 14.04 as well as in Ubuntu 14.10. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1399900] Re: screen brightness cannot be changed anymore
** Changed in: unity Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1399900 Title: screen brightness cannot be changed anymore Status in Unity: Incomplete Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: The screen brightness does not reliably respond to adjustments anymore since 14.10 release. I have the suspicion that it depends on the loading of desktop configs or the time I wait before typing my password to login. I've tested in other languages and this issue is not present. If user choose Asturian language, and Asturian keyboard, it's impossible to type á,é,í,ó,ú, ü, ñ. Steps to reproduce it: 1- Change language to Asturian 2- Change keyboard (Launcher--System settings--Text entry--Asturian (Spain, with bottom-dot H and bottom-dot L). 3- Add it. 4- In the top panel, clic and select the text entry: Asturian 5- Open a .txt file, and try to type á,é,í, ó,ú, ü,ñ (it will doesn't work) (if language system is another one, all keyboards works. If we choose Asturian, no one keyboard works, and is not possible to use accents) I thought this bug was related to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1330041 but we think they are different issues. It should use Upstart where available. [Test Case] Install unity8-desktop-session and choose to log in to that session from the LightDM login screen. You should be able to select log out from the session-indicator indicator and have it bring you back to the login screen. [Regression Potential] In the worst case this change could affect log out operations from regular Unity 7 sessions and potentially other sessions that use the session indicator. In such a case, the log out operation would fail necessitating a reboot or manual session kill. [Other Info] This change has been in production use on later releases of Ubuntu (14.10 and later) without problems. Later version of the Unity 8 desktop session do not exit to the LightDM login screen but instead restart Unity 8 and present the Unity 8 login screen.
