[Touch-packages] [Bug 594205]

2014-12-20 Thread Jose-aliste-m
This is a problem with the Text layout algorithm inside TextOutputDev:

Running pdftotext gives the following ordering of paragraphs (the
ellipsis are mine):

1. Apart from the emphasis ...

2. about this attitude ...

3. Integrative contractors
Our research has ...

4. Integrative clients
Integrative attitudes ...

5. Integrative contractors’ engineers
Integrative ...

6. Distributive attitudes ...

7. Economically ...

8. An integrative attitude to the occupational order?
An integrative ...

while it should be 1,3,5,2,4,6,7,8. The fact that in evince we can't
select just one column is a consequence of this misorder in the
paragraphs.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1039420] Re: NTP security vulnerability because not using authentication by default

2014-12-20 Thread Hanno Böck
Has Ubuntu considered using tlsdate instead of ntp? I think it's the
only working secure solution right now.

You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1039420

Title:
NTP security vulnerability because not using authentication by default

Status in ntp package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Ubuntu implements so much security one way or another. So much
defenses against network level man in the middle or malicious proxies
or wifi hotspots. Cryptographic verification generally works well but
there is one big drawback: it requires correct date/time.

NTP in Ubuntu does not use any authentication by default, although it
  is supported by NTP.

I conclude, that almost no one is using authenticated NTP, because
there are no instructions in a forum or blog how to enable NTP
authentication. Therefore almost everyone uses standard configuration
  and is at risk.

An adversary can tamper with the unauthenticated NTP replies and put
the users time several years back, especially, but not limited, if the
bios battery or hardware clock is defect. That issue becomes more
relevant with new devices like RP, which do not even have a hardware
  clock.

Putting the clock several years back allows an adversary to use
already revoked, broken, expired certificates; replay old, broken,
  outdated, known vulnerable updates etc.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1404468] [NEW] German neo2 keyboard layout: no ALT and SUPER keys

2014-12-20 Thread Mail-fabian-keller
Public bug reported:

Affected version: Ubuntu 14.04.

When switching to the Neo 2 keyboard layout, I cannot use the ALT or
SUPER keys at all. To reproduce this bug, do the following:

- In the keyboard system tray menu, select Text Entry
- Click +
- Select: Germany (Neo 2)
- Close the Text Entry configuration
- In the keyboard system tray menu, (temporarily) select Germany (Neo 2) as
active layout.

Now, shortcuts like ALT+TAB, ALT+F2, ... are no longer working.
The same goes for the shortcuts I tried with SUPER.

Switching to Neo2 by setxkbmap de neo has the same result.

For sake of completeness: There are other bug reports regarding Neo2,
reporting that Layer4 (Mod4) is not working. In my case, Mod4 seems to
be working fine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1402194] Re: PCI/internal sound card not detected

2014-12-20 Thread David Chatterton
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

This bug relates to the internal sound hardware in a Dell XPS 13 laptop.
Since accepting an upgrade to the latest Ubuntu Extra software today,
the Systems Settings Sound Output no longer show the internal
speakers, despite numerous attempts to shut down and restart.

Before accepting the upgrade, the sound played normally through the
  speakers.

Having upgraded the system from the Ubuntu 12.10 originally installed
with the laptop and finding comments relating to the software drivers
for the Intel WiFi and Bluetooth chip (Intel AC 7520) and touch screen,
I tried out an installation straight from a Ubuntu 14.04 bootable USB
stick. The system worked well enough without these drivers so I went
ahead and replaced the whole installation from the USB stick and
subsequently accepted the upgrade to 14.10.

I tried plugging in a headset and this produced a screen allowing me to
select the type of headset (mono, with or without mic or stereo). An
extra entry appeared in the System Settings Sound Output pane
allowing me to choose between the headset or the speakers and to test
the audio on each one. However, unplugging the headset seemed to produce
intermittent behaviour, the system being uncertain as to whether the
headset was in use. This was solved by re-booting and the system and
  speakers behaved as expected.

Now I have the situation that the speakers are not shown in the Sound
Output pane and the Output Volume slider stays at zero and is unable to
be moved with the pointer. The volume control slider in the dropdown
panel from the speaker symbol in the system tray appears to respond to
movement from the pointer and the Fn-F11 F12 keys. However, with no
output device shown, there is no sound output to the speakers.

Several attempts to restart the system have failed to restore the
  speaker functionality.

Title:
  PCI/internal sound card not detected

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
This bug relates to the internal sound hardware in a Dell XPS 13
laptop. Since accepting an upgrade to the latest Ubuntu Extra software
today, the Systems Settings Sound Output no longer show the
internal speakers, despite numerous attempts to shut down and restart.

Before accepting the upgrade, the sound played normally through the
  speakers.

Having upgraded the system from the Ubuntu 12.10 originally installed
with the laptop and finding comments relating to the software drivers
for the Intel WiFi and Bluetooth chip (Intel AC 7520) and touch
screen, I tried out an installation straight from a Ubuntu 14.04
bootable USB stick. The system worked well enough without these
drivers so I went ahead and replaced the whole installation from the
USB stick and subsequently accepted the upgrade to 14.10.

I tried plugging in a headset and this produced a screen allowing me
to select the type of headset (mono, with or without mic or stereo).
An extra entry appeared in the System Settings Sound Output pane
allowing me to choose between the headset or the speakers and to test
the audio on each one. However, unplugging the headset seemed to
produce intermittent behaviour, the system being uncertain as to
whether the headset was in use. This was solved by re-booting and the
system and speakers behaved as expected.

Now I have the situation that the speakers are not shown in the Sound
Output pane and the Output Volume slider stays at zero and is unable
to be moved with the pointer. The volume control slider in the
dropdown panel from the speaker symbol in the system tray appears to
respond to movement from the pointer and the Fn-F11 F12 keys.
However, with no output device shown, there is no sound output to the
  speakers.

Several attempts to restart the system have failed to restore the
  speaker functionality.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1404479] [NEW] Xorg crash

2014-12-20 Thread Martin Vysny
Public bug reported:

Chromium browser crashes a lot (the tabs keep crashing). I have read
that setting max number of opened files to 4096 could help, so I tried
that. Unity no longer started after reboot, so I removed the setting of
max opened files, but Unity still does not start.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1404479] Re: Xorg crash

2014-12-20 Thread Martin Vysny
Nautilus actually starts and I can see the desktop icons, but unity does
not start. Weird is that unity starts for other users, it just won't
start for my user.

Title:
unity keeps last typed term in dash search

Status in Unity:
  Opinion
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
  Opinion

Bug description:
When I click on dash home to search for an application, the previously
searched term remains, even after I have started original application and the
dash menu closes.
The next time I click dash, it has the same term I previously searched for.

  TEST CASE
  1. Open the dash by either clicking on the icon or by pressing the super key.
  2. Search for terminal, click terminal icon to launch it.
  3. Now again open the dash.
  WHAT HAPPENS
The last written search term is shown in the search box and the 'searching'
spinner is still spinning.
  WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN
When the dash is reopened the search box should be empty.

It is similar to #825412 from back on 2011 that was supposed to be
  patched

If this is, for some reason, now the desired operation of dash, where
do I configure it to stop this behavior? Please don't make uni-lateral
decisions involving user interface, offer options.

2014-12-20 Thread zzarko
Public bug reported:

After 5 days of uptime, X is using 70% of 8GB RAM that I have in my
machine (according to htop). I tried restarting, but X always just keeps
using more and more RAM. The machine is on Ubuntu 14.04 64bit.

Bug description:
This appears to be a regression in 14.10 sometime in September 2014.

The behavior appears similar to this bug from 2011:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/830348

On resume from suspend, screen contents are displayed for a brief time
(perhaps 0.5 to 1 sec) before the lock dialog appears.

These screen contents are not always the desktop or open application
beneath the lock screen. On at least one occasion, the screen showed
content from a full-screen video that had been playing in Firefox some
time before the computer had been suspended: neither the video nor its
underlying tab were open anymore, so the image(s) was likely part of a
buffer somewhere. (Needless to say, if the wrong full-screen video had
been watched, depending on the setting, this could be a quite serious
  issue for some users).

I have not exhaustively tested conditions in which this appears.
However, just now, the bug did not appear when keeping the lid open,
suspending, and then resuming with the power button.

But when suspending from menu, closing the lid, then opening the lid
and moving the mouse, the screen displayed contents before showing the
lock dialog. The image displayed was of the desktop (with this bug
reporting window) and showed the suspend item in the power menu
  being highlighted/clicked.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: unity

  See the attached screenshot.

When an app is fullscreen (fullscreen, not maximized) on a monitor,
but another program is focused on the other monitor, then the unity
panel is displayed at when it shoudn't be.

I appreciate this probably isn't a priority, but for a future release
it would be good seeing as it's the little details that matter.

  --
  Desired solution:

  - When an app is fullscreen (fullscreen, not maximized) on a monitor,
but another program is focused on the other monitor, the unity menu
bar should not be displayed on the monitor that is displaying the
  fullscreen app.

  - When fixing this bug, also look at bug #1065425

  WORKAROUND FOR THIS BUG:
Turn Always On Top on via right-clicking the titlebar of your window,
before making it go fullscreen.
This will prevent the Unity panel from rendering on top of this
fullscreen-window, when using the other screen.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1259939] Re: ssh -g has no effect if master socket already open

Title:
ssh -g has no effect if master socket already open

Status in Portable OpenSSH:
  Confirmed
Status in openssh package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in openssh package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  From the man page:
-g Allows remote hosts to connect to local forwarded ports.

When working with a control socket, this works fine if -g is included
with the initial connect attempt, for example:

  $ cat ~/.ssh/config
  Host *
  ControlMaster auto
  ControlPath ~/.ssh/%r@%h:%p

  $ ssh -gTfNL 12345:localhost:12345 host
  $ netstat -tln

  tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:12345 0.0.0.0:*
  LISTEN -

  $ lsof -n

  ssh 182446user3u IPv4 76397177 0t0
TCP 192.168.0.9:51181-192.168.0.15:ssh (ESTABLISHED)
  ssh 182446user4u IPv4 76397181 0t0
TCP *:3128 (LISTEN)
  ssh 182446user5u IPv6 76397182 0t0
TCP *:3128 (LISTEN)

  and similarly:

  $ ssh -g host
  user@host:~$ exit
  $ ssh -gTfNL 12345:localhost:12345 host
  $ netstat -tln

  tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:12345 0.0.0.0:*
  LISTEN -

However, if it isn't then -g is ignored on subsequent attempts to
  forward ports:

  $ ssh host
  user@host:~$ exit
  $ ssh -g -L 12345:localhost:12345 host
  $ netstat -tln

  tcp0 0 127.0.0.1:12345 0.0.0.0:*
  LISTEN -

  $ lsof -n

  ssh 182399user3u IPv4 76390396 0t0
TCP 192.168.0.9:51178-192.168.0.15:ssh (ESTABLISHED)
  ssh 182399user4u unix 0x 0t0
76390976 /home/user/.ssh/user@host
  ssh 182399user6u IPv6 76392394 0t0
TCP [::1]:3128 (LISTEN)
  ssh 182399user7u IPv4 76392395 0t0
TCP 127.0.0.1:3128 (LISTEN)

This doesn't really make sense: ssh should still be capable of binding
to the correct address as requested.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 955193] Re: Menu bar - add option for the global menu to make it always visible

2014-12-20 Thread keito
This is great news! I no longer use Ubuntu (switched to elementary),
but this was one of my major gripes. Now, if they could see to it to
add the ability to remove the launcher permanently, then I'd certainly
be tempted back. Offering such user control and choice is a GOOD thing!

Same problem on Asus Zenbook UX32VD, Kubuntu 14.10. I have to run this
each time I open my laptop from suspend:

sudo /etc/init.d/network-manager stop ; sleep 2 ; sudo /etc/init.d
/network-manager start

Otherwise I can't see my wireless adapter in network manager. Note its
visible if I run 'ifconfig'.

Bug description:
New keyboard layout changer in Ubuntu 13.10 introduce old-new bug. Any
system or application hotkey witch use char (for example: ctrl+alt+t for
terminal or ctrl+t for new tab in browser) become unfunctional when selected
non-latin keyboard layout.
Hotkeys with F1-12, numbers and other non-character buttons works perfectly.

Window manager hotkeys not affected by this bug. All hotkeys in system
parameters-keyboard-hotkeys-windows works perfect with any keyboard
  layout.

Workaround for some system hotkeys and two layouts (english and non-
latin): rebind all hotkeys in your local layout. For example instead
of ctrl+alt+t use ctrl+alt+τ (greek tau). That hotkey still work with
english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin
layouts this workaround helps only with one of them.

  Dear Ubuntu users and developers!
Please include the following information to your comment about non-latin
shortcuts problems:
  1. What Ubuntu version do you have (Ubuntu 13.10, Ubuntu 13.10 GNOME, Ubuntu
14.04, Ubuntu 14.04 GNOME and so on), upgraded (describe version) or clean
installed
  2. What keyboard layout do you have
  3. What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use
  4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell,
GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz)
  5. With which program and its version and origin (Ubuntu repositories, PPA,
non-deb binary package from some website) you have problems.

By providing this information you can make bug-fixing much simpler and
  may be faster.

For other layout switching problems introduced in Ubuntu 13.10 you can see
bug 1218322.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1404540] [NEW] Scrollbar is basically invisible on dark coloured backgrounds

2014-12-20 Thread Stuart Langridge
Public bug reported:

See attached image.

Obviously a scrollbar should be unobtrusive on a mobile platform, but
this isn't unobtrusive, it's invisible. I had to look very very hard to
be sure it was even there at all. This surely can't be the design goal;
if so, why have a scrollbar at all?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1397513] Re: ubuntu

2014-12-20 Thread Adolfo Jayme
Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html and
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs . We'd be grateful if you would
then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. The behavior you expected, and
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Thank you for your understanding.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1404548] [NEW] sort --reverse does not reverse numeric sorts

2014-12-20 Thread Kevin O'Gorman
Public bug reported:

The --reverse option is supposed to reverse the sense of comparisons, but does
not affect numeric ('g' or 'n') sorts.
With the input filed 02 q
l 10 f
abc 01 x
abc 01 y
abc 01 z
n 10 u
d 02 m
d 02 b
b 10 c
I get the same results with either of
sort --reverse -k2n
sort -k2n

namely
abc 01 x
abc 01 y
abc 01 z
d 02 b
d 02 m
d 02 q
b 10 c
l 10 f
n 10 u

But if I do
sort --reverse -k2
I get
n 10 u
l 10 f
b 10 c
d 02 q
d 02 m
d 02 b
abc 01 z
abc 01 y
abc 01 x

And the same things happen with or without leading zeroes on field 2.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1267866] Re: usb audio: cannot get ctl value: req = 0x81, wValue = 0x0, wIndex = 0x1400, type = 3

2014-12-20 Thread Julian
I'm having this issue since I bought this card (Asus xonar u7) and I still
having the issue in Ubuntu 14.10.
Here is the my alsa-info:
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=a96562a3fb187b1d8bb189d6cc67b5b90df0fa42

The only way to use the card is by loading the snd usb driver with
ignore_ctl_error=1

Let me know if you need help to debug/test a possible fix/patch.

I'm able to receive picture messages through a complicated workaround.
This gets dumped in the nuntium log (I obscured the incoming phone

I can extract the URL from the dump and pull it down from the tmo server
as long as wifi is OFF

  wget http://atl2mosget.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc?T=mavodi-7-13b-
1bf-4-ca-4a21c28

which gives me a SMIL message with a jpg attachment. If I truncate the
file up until the FF D8 FF magic number for jpeg, I'm left with a file I
can open in an image viewer.

The nuntium log also contains this line - maybe it's encountering an unexpected
message type which prevents the MMS from propagating through the rest of the
pipeline:
2014/12/20 12:21:46 Error cannot decode media type for field beginning with
0x28@2

Hopefully this is useful to someone...

2014-12-20 Thread Ionică Bizău
Hi Julian,

I returned the card to the shop since I didn't have a good experience with it.
I was using `ignore_ctl_error=1` to prevent that ugly error...

Hopefully, this will be fixed...

Cheers

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1404576] [NEW] sound output undesirably and unexpectedly switches between headphone and analog output

2014-12-20 Thread Douglas Franz
Public bug reported:

When I first used my speakers on this new Ubuntu computer, the sound
worked fine. At some point the sound started clipping with only a
fraction of a second of sound every second or so. When I look at the
system settings for sound I find that the machine is automatically
detecting headphones and switching the output automatically to
headphones, back and forth, from analog out.

Bug description:
After upgrading to Unity version 7.2.2+14.04.20140714-0ubuntu1 on
Trusty, the lockscreen sometimes fails to take the keyboard focus away
  from Chrome.

This might happen if there's a text selection in Chrome, and also when
  resuming after suspend.

It doesn't always happen, as this is a race condition, but it's easy
to reproduce by selecting the location bar in Chrome and then locking
  the screen.

Workaround: click on any indicator in the upper right corner, and
close the menu. After that, keyboard input is sent to the lockscreen
  again.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1359439] Re: [ 7.287663] systemd-logind[1057]: Failed to start unit user@126.service: Unknown unit: user@126.service

2014-12-20 Thread Ernest
I have the same problem as described initially (as the title of this bug
report) after a clean install of Ubuntu Server 14.10.
I used sudo -i t become the root and then ran the following command:
   * apt-get install systemd-sysv
After rebooting and logging in, I did not have the message/problem appear.
When I input ps -p 1 -o comm=
systemd is returned.
 * I am pretty sure that I saw upstart being removed.
