  Current:
  * you get the short number without the country code

  This was a problem for me when travelling, I couldn't use the Recent

  Somehow it's also remembered permanently, so now even if I call the
  full number with country code, tapping that Recent entry won't have
  the country code still.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1342400] Re: avahi-daemon constantly reporting "Invalid response packet from host"

2015-01-14 Thread robert owings
I see this error when I use my iPad TiVo app - the error comes
simultaneously from all TiVo devices on my lan.

The traffic appears to be "private" traffic between related devices that
do not follow the mdns spec - (Multicast DNS Responses MUST NOT contain
any questions in the Question Section. Any questions in the Question
Section of a received Multicast DNS Response MUST be silently ignored.)

But to honor the spec Avahi should silently ignore the traffic.

IMHO, the error should not be logged.

  avahi-daemon constantly reporting "Invalid response packet from host"

Status in avahi package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  After installing Ubuntu 14.04 (Release: 14.04) and looking for other
  information in /var/log/syslog, I see that syslog is being flooded by
  "Invalid response packet from host" messages from avahi-daemon.

  I searched around to see why this might be and ran across the following avahi
mailing list post along with a patch to fix it:
  http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/avahi/2012-July/002171.html

  >>>
  I would say you can safely ignore it, since any machine on your
  network running a recent OSX version will cause these messages.
  Here's a patch with what we change to avoid these messages flooding
  syslog.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1410792] [NEW] Feature request: add --auto-remove to apt command or make it default behavior

2015-01-14 Thread Jorge Morais
Public bug reported:

When one removes a package, one usually wants to auto-remove the
dependencies which were automatically installed and are no longer needed
by any package. This feature is default on aptitude, and in apt-get it
is enable by --auto-remove. Because the apt command lacks this feature
(neither by default nor via a flag) then I have to remove packages with
aptitude. Adding the --auto-remove flag to apt (or making it the
default behavior) would make it more useful and user-friendly; new users
would have to learn only one command (apt) for all common tasks, leaving
other commands for specialized tasks.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1357548] Re: [settings] Empty PIN/password/passphrase field appears to contain 4 characters

2015-01-14 Thread Jonas G. Drange
@noemi-gallego this landed in RTM 14-Jan-2015 09:40 [1] so I assume the
next RTM image produced after that date.

Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  minor interrelated issues & probably needs design input
  1) visual inconsistency of the pin text box prompt shows 4 "bullets" implying
needing 4 characters, but the passphrase is text box is empty
  2) selecting the pin text box prompt, the "bullets" remain, and don't respond
to delete, they don't disappear once typing begins (i would think dissappear on
text box selection)
  3) having a "show password" would be nice

  Desired resolution: Passcode/password fields should never contain bullets
when you haven't entered anything in them.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1406952] Re: systemd-udevd[471]: Error calling EVIOCSKEYCODE: Invalid argument

Maybe I'm not supposed to post here? But since I did I'll finish up.

It seems to come and go on it's own now requiring no action from me,
mostly it's gone. The last was January 12 with:

systemd-udevd[287]: Error calling EVIOCSKEYCODE: Invalid argument

but successive boots yield no further errors of this type or entries in

  1) Start the music app and start playing music
  2) Switch to another application
  3) Open the sound indicator
  4) Click on the album art/metadata, notice that nothing happens.

  It was expected that the app that is playing the music would be raised
  to the currently focussed app, much like unity7.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1355995] Re: sound plays on speakers even when sound indicator is set to zero

2015-01-14 Thread Thomas Strehl
There is something fishy ongoing indeed. It seems there are multiple
states involved that are not properly resolved: music playing state has
different volume level than music paused. When music is playing
indicator displays e.g. two volume bars, when pressing the pause button
it switches back to e.g. 0 bars, resume playing and the indicator
displays two bars again.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1403982] Re: mini.iso installer cannot load additional components

  Dialogue:

  "Choose a mirror to use and press enter.

  If you have a http proxy type its details now, otherwise just press
  enter."

  The installer does not start loading additional components. Instead it
complains:
  "Downloading a file failed"
  Retry
  Change mirror
  Cancel

  I have tried several national mirrors, and also 'archive.ubuntu.com'

  No mirror can provide that file, and the installation gets stuck here.

  Failing process: udpkg, net-retriever, or maybe missing files in the
  mirrors?

  There is nothing wrong with my internet connection:
  ping ubuntu.com works (from this Vivid alpha mini.iso)
  Ubuntu 14.04 LTS mini.iso works, can install systems

  The automatically attached files have nothing to do with the bug. They
  were created in another computer because I could not create the report
  in the simple system running in the beginning of the mini.iso
  installation process. So they were removed.

  This is the only Unity launcher item with no right-click quicklist.

  To me it seems important to have consistency. Though of course we know
  that we shouldn't just add things for the sake of it.

  I don't know if added "Switch to Workspace X" options is considered a
  good idea?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1116391] Re: 3-D relief on sound menu Play button is impossible

  3-D relief on sound menu Play button is impossible

Status in Ayatana Design:

Status in indicator-sound package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  indicator-sound 12.10.1-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 12.10

  1. With at least one controllable music player installed, open the
  sound menu.

  What you see:

  * The Play/Pause button appears to be some non-zero distance, X,
  closer to you than the menu. You can tell this by looking at the top
  or bottom of the Play/Pause button.

  * The Back and Forward buttons appear to be the same distance, X,
  closer to you than the menu. You can tell this by looking at the top
  or bottom of those buttons.

  * The Play/Pause button appears to be the same distance, X, closer to
  you than the Back and Forward buttons. You can tell this by looking at
  the left or right sides of the Play/Pause button.

  So X > 0, but X + X = X. This is impossible. You are looking at an
  optical illusion.

  What you should see: either
  * the Play/Pause button is as close to you as the Back and Forward buttons,
in which case it isn't sticking above them; or
  * the Play/Pause button is closer to you than the Back and Forward buttons,
in which case the relief at the top and bottom is thicker than at the left and
right.

  After typing in the home lens's search field and seeing no results, I

  Because the search field is specific to the lens, I had to retype my

  I didn't realize until I started this report that the home lens search
  would search all the lenses. (Or, I'm assuming that's what it does
  now, based on a different search which produced results.)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1160569]

2015-01-14 Thread Lmandel
With the release of Firefox 35 today, Firefox 34 is EOL. If you think
this warrants tracking, please request tracking for a current release.
Note that as this is an old bug, unless there has been a recent change
in severity, it is unlikely that this will be fixed before Firefox 38
(current Nightly).

  On applications with a dark theme (eg, Authenticator, Blabble, Utudu)
  the highlight color of the PageHeadState actions is very noticeable.
  This is easily seen by simply pressing one of the actions. When using
  a light theme, the effect is much more subtle. It would be nice to be
  able to disable the highlight or to set the highlight to a custom
  color.

  Setting as rtm14 with High priority since as an application writer it
  is very frustrating not being able to adjust this when using dark
  colors for the theme.

  On a possibly related note-- perhaps this is all configurable via
  Theme, but I've tried several times to figure out to do it. There
  appears to be no documentation on it (and I've mentioned this at least
  3 times to people that we need it).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1377220] Re: Google Chrome crash with mesa 10.3 on Intel GPU

2015-01-14 Thread Piet Delport
This affects me too: Acceleration and WebGL worked fine in Ubuntu 14.04,
and broke after upgrading to 14.10.

I use Google Chrome (google-chrome-stable 39.0.2171.99-1), also with an
Intel integrated GPU (Lenovo G580 laptop), and Mesa 10.3.0.

The LIBGL_DRI3_DISABLE=1 workaround works for me: i applied it in
~/.local/share/applications/google-chrome.desktop, and WebGL
functionality seems to be restored.

I haven't run it like this for very long, but it seems stable so far.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1410746] [NEW] Interrupted lxc-snapshot deletes snapshot *and* vm

2015-01-14 Thread Chris West
Public bug reported:

lxc is configured for limited user usage, i.e. the backing store is
always "dir". Let's create a container, and snapshot it in its pristine
state:

% lxc-create -n restorebug -t download -- -d ubuntu -r utopic -a amd64 &&
lxc-snapshot -n restorebug
[...]
lxc_container: lxccontainer.c: lxcapi_snapshot: 3011 Snapshot of
directory-backed container requested.
lxc_container: lxccontainer.c: lxcapi_snapshot: 3012 Making a copy-clone.
[...]

% ls ~/.local/share/lxc/restorebug/rootfs
~/.local/share/lxc/restorebug/snaps/snap0/rootfs
.local/share/lxc/restorebug/rootfs:
bin boot dev etc home lib lib64 media mnt opt proc root run sbin
srv  sys  tmp  usr  var

.local/share/lxc/restorebug/snaps/snap0/rootfs:
bin boot dev etc home lib lib64 media mnt opt proc root run sbin
srv  sys  tmp  usr  var

Everything went to plan. Now, try restoring the snapshot, and ctrl+c'ing
lxc-snapshot while it's running:

% lxc-snapshot -n restorebug -r snap0
[ctrl+c, bang!]

Depending on when you press it, you might get some rsync output, but never
anything from the lxc-snapshot command itself. This isn't unexpected, it's
probably just copying the snapshot over to the vm, right?! That sounds
cancellable.  e.g.
rsync error: received SIGINT, SIGTERM, or SIGHUP (code 20) at rsync.c(632)
[sender=3.1.1]
rsync error: received SIGINT, SIGTERM, or SIGHUP (code 20) at io.c(504)
[generator=3.1.1]

Now, let's run lxc-snapshot again, no need to ctrl+c it:
% lxc-snapshot -n restorebug -r snap0

lxc_container: bdev.c: bdev_copy: 3253 failed to detect blockdev type for
...local/share/lxc/restorebug/snaps/snap0/rootfs
lxc_container: lxccontainer.c: copy_storage: 2543 Error copying storage
lxc_container: lxccontainer.c: lxcapi_destroy: 2141 Container restorebug has
snapshots;  not removing
lxc_container: lxc_snapshot.c: do_restore_snapshots: 109 Error restoring
snapshot snap0

% ls -a ~/.local/share/lxc/restorebug/rootfs
~/.local/share/lxc/restorebug/snaps/snap0
.local/share/lxc/restorebug/rootfs:
.  ..

.local/share/lxc/restorebug/snaps/snap0:
.  ..  config  ts

It's deleted both the snapshot, and the original container. Further attempts
to run lxc-snapshot give similar errors:

% lxc-snapshot -n restorebug -r snap0

lxc_container: lxccontainer.c: lxcapi_snapshot_restore: 3217 Failed to find
original backing store type
lxc_container: lxc_snapshot.c: do_restore_snapshots: 109 Error restoring
snapshot snap0

Also reproduced on cleaner utopic server installs, this bug report is
from my laptop.

(We hit this on our build server: a typical job is to restore a vm, then
run some commands in it. Jobs are cancellable, which just interrupts
any running process.)

  I think this is a generic unity8 issue that is exposed in the My
  Photos scope. This scope displays photos from the photo roll through
  mediascanner.

  Problem:
  When there are many photos, the scope does not display thumbnails for quite a
while. (It may even be that no photo thumbnails display until all are loaded
into memory.) This is an awkward user experience because the scope looks like
nothing is happening for significant periods of time.

  Expectation:
  Photo thumbnails would display as they arrive. (Perhaps there would be some
kind of window around what is currently visible in the scope so that as soon as
photos in the current scroll area, before it by some amount, and after it by
some amount are in memory, they could display and the user could scroll
somewhat, with the window moving appropriately.)

As I understand it this has no relevance for RTM because it only affects

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1410618] Re: MacBook Air 6, 2 TRRS Headset Mic Not Working

2015-01-14 Thread David Henningsson
Hi chrisolof,

 1) hdajacksensetest shows the result of the HDMI graphics card, you
probably want to add "-c 1" or similar to get the analog card instead.

 2) Looking at your alsa-info, it seems like somebody has already tried
to improve the driver for your card. I'd encourage you to try the latest
driver, according to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/UpgradingAlsa/DKMS

If this does not work, then maybe contact the author of this patch to
see if there's some room for collaboration:

commit b5bf0a929d7ca35b9ccfc24647a397899d307659

  MacBook Air 6,2 TRRS Headset Mic Not Working

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hello,

  I'm running Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 on a new MacBookAir6,2 with the Cirrus
  Logic CS4208 and would love to get the microphone part of the TRRS
  connector working. Mac OS picks up and utilizes the TRRS headset mic
  without issue so I know the hardware is a go.

  With the headset plugged in, running sudo hdajacksensetest -a results
  in:

  Pin 0x05 ( Digital Out, HDMI): present = No
  Pin 0x06 ( Digital Out, HDMI): present = No
  Pin 0x07 ( Digital Out, HDMI): present = No

  AlsaInfo output here:
  http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=cabc8cab44d308c8a3898c66d48d9be4fc5ccf83

  I opened up hdajackretask to find four pins:
  Green Headphone
  Pin ID: 0x10
  Headphone

  Internal Speaker
  Pin ID: 0x12
  Internal speaker

  Pink Mic
  Pin ID: 0x18
  Not connected

  Internal Mic
  Pin ID: 0x1c
  Internal mic

  Unplugging and replugging the headset changes the Output device in
  sound settings from Headphones to Speakers so that works, but nothing
  in the input tab ever changes. It always lists two devices: Internal
  Microphone and Microphone. Both of these seem to actually be the
  internal microphone in the mac - either works without the headset
  connected at all.

  So I'm not really sure how to proceed from here, but I'd be happy to
  run whatever diagnostic tests might prove useful and/or even
  contribute code toward a fix - but I just have no idea where to start.
  Is it as simple as just finding the right pin and telling the system
  to use it as a microphone?

Bug description:
  With the current implementation, the QML files for account plugins are
  executed by the Online Accounts QML applet which in turn is executed
  within the System Settings process, which probably means that
  malicious account plugins could control everything that the System
  Settings process can (like entering/exiting the flight mode).

  Account plugins (or the Online Accounts applet itself) should probably
  be run in a separate process, which could then be assigned a stricter
  confinement with apparmor.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1407914] Re: [phone] No way to force a retry of GSM data connection

2015-01-14 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
I suggest that to save battery, GSM data connection and Wi-Fi network
scanning follow the same backoff: when not connected, try again after 5
seconds, then 10 seconds, then 20, 40, 80, 120, 120, 120 ... or
something like that. (Cellular network scanning might follow a similar
pattern, but more slowly, since cellular networks change less often.)

due to bug #1235120 there's no feedback on why there's no network available.
  There's also no way to force a retry of the data connection other than
toggling flight mode or the data connection type in cellular settings.

  I would feel more in control if the GSM connections would be listed in
  the network menu with the ability to switch to one of them (so being
  able to switch data SIMs in a dual-SIM phone without going to
  settings). Currently they're some magic connections that supposedly
  work by themselves, but this assumption breaks when they stop working.

Bug description:
  Department is not shown in Apps department drop-down menu if it has
  only one application which declares X-Ubuntu-Default-Department-ID=...
  department mapping (and is preinstalled, ie. wasn't installed from
  store).

  This is caused by too restrictive behavior of
  DepartmentsDb::get_children_departments(..), which filters out
  subdepartments that don't have any apps in the local departments db
  (which means that department will never be shown in the departments
  menu if it has no app installed from the store). This restriction
  should probably be removed from that method after careful verification
  if it has no undesired side effects.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1357548] Re: [settings] Empty PIN/password/passphrase field appears to contain 4 characters

2015-01-14 Thread Noemí
This is still a bug in R7 Version. Could you tell me more or less in
which version this is going fixed?

Bug description:
  minor interrelated issues & probably needs design input
  1) visual inconsistency of the pin text box prompt shows 4 "bullets" implying
needing 4 characters, but the passphrase is text box is empty
  2) selecting the pin text box prompt, the "bullets" remain, and don't respond
to delete, they don't disappear once typing begins (i would think dissappear on
text box selection)
  3) having a "show password" would be nice

  Desired resolution: Passcode/password fields should never contain bullets
when you haven't entered anything in them.

Bug description:
  Unfortunately no good steps to reproduce, other than "resume your
  phone", from time to time you'll get the power dialog displayed on
  screen.

  The reason for this could be twofold: a) you pressed the power button
  in your pocket b) input is confused and keyUp event does not reach
  unity8.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1410676] [NEW] Doesn't recognize locale properly

2015-01-14 Thread Uqbar
Public bug reported:

My current locale settings are:
LANG="en_US.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="it_IT.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="it_IT.UTF-8"

as defined in /etc/default/locale and

LC_COLLATE="C"

in my ~/.bashrc

That is: I need all messages in Englishwhile using local (Italian) cenventions
for numbers, time etc and use "C" collation.
Everytime I run apt-get I get this error message:

perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
LANGUAGE = "en",
LC_ALL = (unset),
LC_TIME = "en_IT.UTF-8",
LC_MONETARY = "en_IT.UTF-8",
LC_COLLATE = "C",
LC_ADDRESS = "en_IT.UTF-8",
LC_TELEPHONE = "en_IT.UTF-8",
LC_NAME = "en_IT.UTF-8",
LC_MEASUREMENT = "en_IT.UTF-8",
LC_IDENTIFICATION = "en_IT.UTF-8",
LC_NUMERIC = "en_IT.UTF-8",
LC_PAPER = "en_IT.UTF-8",
LANG = "en_IT.UTF-8"
are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").
locale: Cannot set LC_CTYPE to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_MESSAGES to default locale: No such file or directory
locale: Cannot set LC_ALL to default locale: No such file or directory

As you can see, the locale is recognized improperly as "en_IT" instead of
"it_IT".
I would expect no such mangling.
