[Touch-packages] [Bug 1425834] Re: Pulseaudio: Output devices badly set to Headphones

2015-04-10 Thread dino99
Thanks for your analyze Raymond,

i have to tell you that i only met recently that 'output devices' issue
(about 2 months back max), even with the actual ac97 bios setting (as i
know that bios is too old and dont propose the hda choice, but i will
glance at it more closely again, and its the latest bios version
available (no more maintained)).

That is, for the first time i'm changing for the mobo green jack as you
suggest. Maybe that will do the trick, i'll report back on the new boot
after checking again the bios setting.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1442851] [NEW] settings are two big for phone screen in portrait orientation

2015-04-10 Thread Leo Arias
Public bug reported:

As shown on the attached screenshot, the rows #2 and #3 of the settings screen
have a text that doesn't fit on the screen.
The only way to see what these options mean is to switch the phone to landscape
orientation.

A different UI component should be used for these two options, one that
allows the user to see the full text of what he's enabling or disabling.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1368647] Re: GPS and location detection not working on Nexus 4

2015-04-10 Thread Hugo Venhorst
Device: LG Nexus 4
OS: Ubuntu 15.04 r168 dual boot

Still no gps at all for any app.

Is there anything at all I can do? File system is read-only at the
moment. Not sure what breaks if I change that.

On android I heavily use gps and it's definitely a show stopper on
uTouch :-(

GPS and location detection not working on Nexus 4

Status in location-service package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Mako with MultiROM, utopic r239

None of the apps I have tried including Weather, Google maps, OSM
Touch and SensorStatus are able to use the phone's GPS. The
SensorStatus app actually reports Found supported backend, but finds
no position or other GPS data.

Location detection on the other hand is doing something, but it is
really far off when it comes to determining the actual location of the
device. The Weather app suggests my location as Vänsjö, Jämtland,
which is about 400 km north of Stockholm where I am at. OSM Touch
reports no location available and Google maps Your location could
  not be determined

I don't know if the GPS has to waken up somehow, but it has not
shown any form of life for me on Ubuntu Touch, even though it works
perfectly fine when booting the phone as Android.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1298611] Re: [FFe] apparmor signal and ptrace mediation

2015-04-10 Thread Seth Arnold
Ken,

The ptrace mediation in 12.04 LTS is very rudimentary; if you add
capability sys_ptrace, to a profile then processes running in that
profile are allowed to trace any process the discretionary access
controls allow. The fine-grained permissions introduced in 14.04 LTS
require both the new kernel and userspace.

I tested that the apparmor 2.7.102-0ubuntu3.10 package with the linux-
generic-lts-trusty 3.13.0.49.43 package will allow ptrace using the
capability sys_ptrace, permission via a strace profile:

# cat usr.bin.strace
# Last Modified: Sat Apr 11 03:38:35 2015
#include tunables/global

/usr/bin/strace {
  #include abstractions/base

  capability sys_ptrace,

  /bin/ls rix,
  /home/*/ r,
  /proc/filesystems r,
  /usr/bin/strace mr,

}

I tested both strace /bin/ls and strace -p 1.

Thanks

Background: kernel and apparmor userspace updates to support signal

they are related, but the FFes may be granted and the uploads may
  happen at different times.

  = linux =
  Summary:
This feature freeze exception is requested for signal and ptrace mediation
via apparmor in the kernel. When used with a compatible apparmor userspace,
signals and ptrace rules are supported. When used without a compatible apparmor
userspace (eg, on a precise system with a trusty backport kernel), signal and
ptrace mediation is not enforced (ie, you can use this kernel with an old
userspace without any issues).

The fine grained mediation of signals and ptraces also incorporates improved
versioning support that allows this kernel to better support older and newer
userspaces. This allows for this version of the kernel to work as a backport
kernel unmodified (currently a patch and config are used to provide backport
  kernels).

The kernel patch is available at git://kernel.ubuntu.com/jj/ubuntu-trusty.git
  in the trusty-alpha6 branch apparmor-alpha6-sync

  Testing:
  * 12.04 system with backported kernel: DONE
   * test-apparmor.py: PASS (runs extensive tests (upstream and distro))
   * exploratory manual testing: PASS (networking, aa-enforce with firefox,
firefox works, apparmor blocks access, etc)
   * aa-status: PASS
   * lxc: PASS (containers can be created, started, shutdown)
   * libvirt: PASS (VMs started via openstack, and test-libvirt.py from QRT
passes all tests)

parts of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/AppArmor)

unrelated to apparmor))

   * apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu QRT touch image tests: PASS
  * 14.04 system (non-Touch) with updated apparmor userspace capable of
supporting signal and ptrace mediation: DONE (relevant parts of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/AppArmor. Note: this is marked
'done' from the kernel perspective-- the apparmor userspace upload is being
prepared and tests assume userspace is using latest patches on the list)

  Justification:
This feature is required to support comprehensive application confinement on
Ubuntu Touch. This feature adds a significant security benefit to libvirt's
qemu guest isolation which is fundamental to Ubuntu on Server/Cloud. This
feature also adds a welcome improvement to administrators wishing to further
protect their systems.

Bug description:
I have had this problem for quite a long time tbh. And after each release I
hope it will be fixed, but it doesn't happen.
A little intro: I'm using Ubuntu for work, I rarely shutdown the computer I
rather put it to sleep mode, in worst case it's hibernate. I have loads of apps
opened at the same time. I use external monitor as well. Computer is Dell XPS15
L521X, 16Gb RAM, 120GB SSD + 1TB HDD. As a graphics card I'm using builtin
intel HD4000, I have GF GT640 as well but it's disabled using bbswitch.

Symptoms are that after some time compiz slows down a lot while using
it. Usually it's no more than 2 days and it's slow again. When I
restart Unity (setsid unity) it's back to full buttersmooth speed with
the same apps opened which leads to conclusion that compiz can handle
the load very well. Maybe it's mesa, maybe it's compiz or unity itself
that slows it down - but I'm no pro to tell.

With 14.10 release I observed very interesting behaviour. I have FHD
builtin monitor and FHD external monitor rotated counterclockwise.
Let's say I started computer yesterday in the morning, it was working
smooth with both monitors and single display, I suspended computer got
home unsuspended and it seemed sluggish (only graphics part of
course). I ran glxgears (I know I know...) and it showed ~ 50FPS which
is slow, because running the same before suspend gives near 60FPS
(refresh rate). Now I come back to work and run it on single builtin
display - ~ 50 FPS, I connect second FHD dispplay and FPS are back to
60 and it's running buttersmooth again. So it seems that
mesa/compiz/unity have some strange refresh rate problem detection
maybe... 2 FHD displays seems to be twice the job compiz has to do
over single display which is strangely slower...

Please advise how can I help solving this, do I need to run compiz
debug version or what can I exactly help technically (applying a
patch, compiling compiz myself, you name it...). I know the standard
procedure of logs etc., I'm afraid that won't help much in this
situation. I looked at logs and there's nothing suspicious, at least
  to me.

On Mako I reflashed to image 245 using --boostrap. Then I added new
system-image-cli from silo 19. After killing the dbus service I did
system-settings - about this phone - updates - check for updates.

The system tells that there is an update and prompts to install it.
After selecting yes, system-settings brings up the install page that
has a progress bar with blinking text In Progress. It then remains
stuck there, top says that system-settings and unity use ~40% CPU time
each. Nothing happens though, it will remain stuck there forever. When
the screensaver comes up, CPU load drops to 0.

Going in with phablet-shell and pinging shows that network is working.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1387558] Re: Compiz slows down over time (usually one day is enough)

Compiz slows down over time (usually one day is enough)

I know the standard
procedure of logs etc., I'm afraid that won't help much in this
situation. I looked at logs and there's nothing suspicious, at least
  to me.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1442775] [NEW] apt-get --ignore-missing doesn't ignore missing packages

2015-04-10 Thread Quanah Gibson-Mount
Public bug reported:

The man page for apt-get states:

   -m, --ignore-missing, --fix-missing
Ignore missing packages; if packages cannot be retrieved or fail the
integrity check after retrieval (corrupted package files), hold back those
packages and handle the
result. Use of this option together with -f may produce an error in
some situations. If a package is selected for installation (particularly if it
is mentioned on the
command line) and it could not be downloaded then it will be
silently held back. Configuration Item: APT::Get::Fix-Missing.

However, when removing or purging packages, it does /not/ actually
ignore missing packages:

build@ub14test:~/p4/zimbra/main/ThirdParty/openldap$ sudo apt-get purge -y
--ignore-missing zimbra-openssl-lib
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package zimbra-openssl-lib
build@ub14test:~/p4/zimbra/main/ThirdParty/openldap$ echo $?
100

This causes some pain when using apt-get in a Makefile and wanting to
ensure custom packages have been removed.

dpkg handles this correctly:

build@ub14test:~/p4/zimbra/main/ThirdParty/openldap$ sudo dpkg --purge
zimbra-openssl-lib
dpkg: warning: ignoring request to remove zimbra-openssl-lib which isn't
installed
build@ub14test:~/p4/zimbra/main/ThirdParty/openldap$ echo $?
0

however you then lose dependency tracking.

** Affects: apt (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1442105] Re: GPS not working on my BQ Ubuntu Touch

2015-04-10 Thread Buzea Bogdan
NOw I tried to open GPS and location and then try this commands:

bogdan@bogdan-Lenovo-B580:~$ adb shell
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ ubuntu-location-serviced-cli --bus system --get
--property visible_space_vehicles
Visible space vehicles:
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$

So I have no vehicles. I have to mention that now with this commands I
am inside, I dont have satelites visible...

2015-04-10 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1321161] Re: [Greeter] Unlocking welcome screen with two fingers doesn't unlock properly

2015-04-10 Thread Michael Terry
I guess I'll mark this fix released for unity8. There is still an
oddity with using two fingers, if you start swiping with one (or two)
fingers, then add a third finger holding the welcome screen in place.
Release the two fingers, and then the third, and you can sometimes get a
stuck greeter.

But I believe that's a separate bug (Saviq filed that?). This bug about
just the two finger swipe seems to work fine today.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1321161] Re: [Greeter] Unlocking welcome screen with two fingers doesn't unlock properly

2015-04-10 Thread Daniel d'Andrada
For the record: you cannot swipe away the welcome screen with 2 fingers.
It only accepts single-finger drags.

But after a single-finger drag has started, you can add as many fingers
as you want since those new ones will be ignored.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1441368] Re: After Standby login without password is no more possible

2015-04-10 Thread Tyler Hicks
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

  a P 08/25/2014 0 9 7 -1
  b NP 08/25/2014 0 9 7 -1

If running under user B after some time the system automatically suspends to
Standby, and is waked up later, at the normal login screen the login without
password is no more possible, I get in red letters: wrong password.
Only change to another user and then logoff helps to again get to a normal
working login screen.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1442828] [NEW] change for LP 1425376 breaks systemd After=network-online.target

2015-04-10 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The change to ifup@.service done as part of LP 1425376 appears to break the
ordering of units marked as After=network-online.target. In my specific
case, a new service script with After=network-online.target is erroneously
run concurrently with dhclient. As the new script depends on networking
configuration being complete, it fails as the IP addresses and routes from DHCP
are not configured. This functioned correctly on vivid daily images from a few
days ago, and appears to break starting with the vivid daily from approximately
0409.

Infinity suggested this change as a likely suspect:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1438612]

2015-04-10 Thread Lennart-poettering
(In reply to Martin Pitt from comment #13)
(In reply to Lennart Poettering from comment #12)
The best way is to fix the few services that really need dbus
unconditionally to be around to add After=dbus.service. And all is good.

If we go with that approach, then it would IMHO be cleaner to change the
implied After=dbus.socket for Type=dbus units to After=dbus.service, for
 the non-kdbus case at least.

Nah, I am pretty sure this should be fixed in the few services that need
this, rather than adding these otherwise unnecessary synchronization
points to all services, including the ones that don't need it.

particular, it stops before NetworkManager and remote-fs.target, so

  can be seen with

A quick workaround is to add After=dbus.service to
  /lib/systemd/system/NetworkManager.service's [Unit] section, but this
should be fixed in a more general fashion.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1442828] Re: change for LP 1425376 breaks systemd After=network-online.target

2015-04-10 Thread Adam Conrad
Martin, this looks like it renders the network-online target entirely
useless. When we're in Austin, I think you, me, and stgraber should sit
down and argue a bit about what correct behaviour is, but I'd guess
it'll looks something like block on a one-shot attempt to bring up the
network, and if that fails miserably, background a second attempt so the
boot can continue. Ish.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1442837] [NEW] ifdown wlan0 brings down multiple interfaces, not just the specified one

2015-04-10 Thread Tessa Lau
Public bug reported:

I have a server with multiple internet connections using several
different network interfaces (e.g. wlan0 for wireless and lte0 for an
LTE dongle). Both are configured in /etc/network/interfaces to use DHCP
like so:

allow-hotplug lte0
iface lte0 inet dhcp

iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-ssid MY_NETWORK
wpa-psk
wpa-driver nl80211
wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK

If both interfaces are up and I try to bring just one of them down using
ifdown wlan0 I would expect the other interface to remain up. However,
this actually brings down both interfaces and does a DHCP release on
both.

Sending on LPF/wlan0/80:86:f2:b1:c3:3f
Sending on Socket/fallback
DHCPRELEASE on lte0 to 100.79.128.1 port 67 (xid=0x33b5bd5b)
Connection closed.

This is actually catastrophic for us since we are connecting to the
server via the lte0 interface, and we have just shut down our access
route to the server.

This seems like a bug in ifdown, where it is bringing down the wrong
interface despite what I told it to do on the command line.

** Affects: ifupdown (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1298611] Re: [FFe] apparmor signal and ptrace mediation

2015-04-10 Thread Ken Sharp
Did these changes end up in Precise? I see no sensible way to tell
AppArmor to allow a ptrace. The parser is totally confused by this.

Bug description:
Background: kernel and apparmor userspace updates to support signal
and ptrace mediation. These packages are listed in one bug because
they are related, but the FFes may be granted and the uploads may
  happen at different times.

  = linux =
  Summary:
This feature freeze exception is requested for signal and ptrace mediation
via apparmor in the kernel. When used with a compatible apparmor userspace,
signals and ptrace rules are supported. When used without a compatible apparmor
userspace (eg, on a precise system with a trusty backport kernel), signal and
ptrace mediation is not enforced (ie, you can use this kernel with an old
userspace without any issues).

The fine grained mediation of signals and ptraces also incorporates improved
versioning support that allows this kernel to better support older and newer
userspaces. This allows for this version of the kernel to work as a backport
kernel unmodified (currently a patch and config are used to provide backport
  kernels).

The kernel patch is available at git://kernel.ubuntu.com/jj/ubuntu-trusty.git
  in the trusty-alpha6 branch apparmor-alpha6-sync

  Testing:
  * 12.04 system with backported kernel: DONE
   * test-apparmor.py: PASS (runs extensive tests (upstream and distro))
   * exploratory manual testing: PASS (networking, aa-enforce with firefox,
firefox works, apparmor blocks access, etc)
   * aa-status: PASS
   * lxc: PASS (containers can be created, started, shutdown)
   * libvirt: PASS (VMs started via openstack, and test-libvirt.py from QRT
passes all tests)
  * 14.04 system (non-Touch) with current apparmor userspace: DONE (relevant
parts of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/AppArmor)
   * test-apparmor.py: PASS (runs extensive tests (upstream and distro))
   * exploratory manual testing: PASS (networking, aa-enforce with firefox,
firefox works, apparmor blocks access, etc)
   * aa-status: PASS
   * lxc: PASS (containers can be created, started, shutdown)
   * libvirt: PASS (QRT/script/test-libvirt.py (though there are 3 failures
unrelated to apparmor))
   * click-apparmor QRT touch image tests: PASS
   * apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu QRT touch image tests: PASS
  * 14.04 system (non-Touch) with updated apparmor userspace capable of
supporting signal and ptrace mediation: DONE (relevant parts of
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/AppArmor. Note: this is marked
'done' from the kernel perspective-- the apparmor userspace upload is being
prepared and tests assume userspace is using latest patches on the list)
   * test-apparmor.py: PASS (runs extensive tests (upstream and distro))
   * exploratory manual testing: PASS (networking, aa-enforce with firefox,
firefox works, apparmor blocks access, etc)

   * click-apparmor QRT touch image tests: PASS
   * apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu QRT touch image tests: PASS

  Justification:
This feature is required to support comprehensive application confinement on
Ubuntu Touch. This feature adds a significant security benefit to libvirt's
qemu guest isolation which is fundamental to Ubuntu on Server/Cloud. This
feature also adds a welcome improvement to administrators wishing to further
protect their systems.

  Summary:
This feature freeze exception is requested for signal and ptrace mediation
for apparmor userspace. When used with a compatible kernel, signals and ptrace
rules are supported. When used without a compatible kernel (eg, on Ubuntu Touch
for a few weeks or with upstream kernels), signal and ptrace rules are skipped
(ie, you can use this userspace with other kernels without issue).

ptrace mediation yet):
