[Touch-packages] [Bug 1315434] Re: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged
I used nano to successfully edit the 95-upower-csr.rules in elementary OS Freya, as indicated by asmoore82. I want to chime in and reiterate that mouse power management should take priority over OS power management. Battery usage tracking and management for laptops/netbooks should the primary, and dare I say only focus of the battery indicator. I believe that this is the feeling of the majority. I don't mean to dismiss the feelings or opinions of those who like to manage their mouse battery power. However, if the indicator can not be easily fixed to prioritize laptop battery over mouse battery, then I think mouse support should be removed until it can be fixed. Modern mouse power management is such that mice last for thousands of hours (many months) of constant use on a single set of batteries--in fact it is a selling point on the packaging of most mice. I also believe the lengths I had to go to to find this info is very anti-consumer, and it discourages wider adoption of Linux as an accessible, usable, OS. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to indicator-power in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315434 Title: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged Status in indicator-power package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: When my laptop battery is in a charging state, but is not fully charged, I expect it to be displayed in preference to my mouse, which has no time remaining estimate. The spec here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Power says: If anything is discharging, the menu title should represent the component (not battery, but component) that is estimated to lose power first. For example, if your notebook battery is estimated to discharge in 1 hour 47 minutes, and your wireless mouse battery is estimated to discharge in 27 minutes, the menu title should represent the mouse. but there doesn't seem to be any guideline to what happens when a battery is being charged. I suggest the time remaining to charge a battery should be displayed in preference to the power level in a wireless mouse. I can assign those features to other shortcuts, it works, but if I assign it back to CTRL+ALT+T, it doesn't work anymore again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1432484 Title: ctrl+alt+t hot key doesn't open terminal Status in Unity: Fix Released Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: 1) Description: Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (development branch) Release: 15.04 2) unity: Installed: 7.3.1+15.04.20150227-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 7.3.1+15.04.20150227-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 7.3.1+15.04.20150227-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://mirrors.accretive-networks.net/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) ctrl+alt+t should open terminal 4) nothing happens ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 Package: unity 7.3.1+15.04.20150227-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.19.0-9.9-generic 3.19.1 Uname: Linux 3.19.0-9-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.16.2-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sun Mar 15 21:55:08 2015 DistUpgraded: 2015-03-15 19:32:57,918 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: vivid DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bbswitch, 0.7, 3.19.0-9-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia-346-updates, 346.47, 3.19.0-9-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia-346-updates-uvm, 346.47, 3.19.0-9-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GK104 [GeForce GTX 660 Ti] [10de:1183] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: eVga.com. [Touch-packages] [Bug 879902] Re: Increase the number of inotify watches
I have fs.inotify.max_user_watches=1048576 and experiencing what looks like this issue (downloading a file and size not updating in nautilus). I'm using insync and spideroak, so maybe these are using up the watches ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to procps in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879902 Title: Increase the number of inotify watches Status in procps package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Many of the problems I encountered seem to be related to a single issue : the maximum number of watches inotify is able to handle. I have found that the default maximum number of watches is way to low too handle every feature using inotify, a default Ubuntu uses a great number of watches out of the box and in Natty and Oneiric it starts to become a real problem. Possible effects are : - Ubuntu One not syncing correctly - Nautilus not updating itself when a file is created or deleted. - Audio players not updating music libraries - tail -f or other programs using inotify show a cryptic message about no space being left on the device (while there's plenty of space) I have found that simply doubling the maximum of watches *is not enough* for a normal use, and if I believe this comment : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/beagle/+bug/115801/comments/4 there is no problem to setting the number of watches to a high value. My current setting is 524288, which is 64 times the default value, It may be too high for a default value but I believe that 65536 or 131072 should be enough for almost everyone. If Precise Pangolin wants to be predictable, this issues *has* to be addressed. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1401141] Re: DHCP server does not work for IPoIB (Infiniband)
I received good feedback from a User by email: Dear sir, A couple of days ago I ran a manual update on Zorin OS 9 32 bits (based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS). The only update offered at that time was isc-dhcp. How interesting, I thought ... will this fix my WIFI connection problems? I think it did! Before the update, reconnecting automatically to an existing WIFI connection could take a long time. Sometimes about 10 minutes. As far as I remember, connection after a clean reboot was usually normal, but there were problems after the system was suspended or hibernated. I did not investigate the problem thouroughly, but I noticed that most people with this kind of problem blame energy management. After the update of isc-dhcp, my system reconnects almost instantly. Thanks for the update(s), -- Hans van der Weij It looks like this fix also fixed possible regression in isc-dhcp. Posting here for documentation, hope Hans does not mind. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1315434] Re: Mouse with no time remaining estimate showing in preference to battery being charged
FYI, I have a merge request pending review that makes the laptop battery have priority over the mouse battery here: https://code.launchpad.net/~mdeslaur/indicator-power/fix- priorities/+merge/260903 This will only display the mouse battery if it's below 10% so that the user will still get a notification that a battery change is required. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1432484] Re: ctrl+alt+t hot key doesn't open terminal
I have the same symptoms as #16. ctrl+alt+t doesn't work, but ctrl+alt+y, for example, does work if I assign ctrl-alt-y to the terminal shortcut. I have 15.04 running on a System 76 Kudu Professional. ctrl-alt-l doesn't work either. Also, as #8 mentioned, the PrtSc/SysRq button appears to do nothing -- it certainly doesn't fire up snapshot. But I can, for example, replace the print shortcuts with ctrl-alt-p, alt-p, shaft-alt-p, ctrl-alt-[, alt-[ and shift-alt-[, and I get normal snapshot behavior with the revised shortcuts. It is like there is something else interfering with the ctrl-alt-t, ctrl-alt-l and PrtSc/SysRq shortcuts. Other than those items, I appear to be 100% functional. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1432484 Title: ctrl+alt+t hot key doesn't open terminal Status in Unity: Fix Released Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: 1) Description: Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (development branch) Release: 15.04 2) unity: Installed: 7.3.1+15.04.20150227-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 7.3.1+15.04.20150227-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 7.3.1+15.04.20150227-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://mirrors.accretive-networks.net/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3) ctrl+alt+t should open terminal 4) nothing happens ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 Package: unity 7.3.1+15.04.20150227-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.19.0-9.9-generic 3.19.1 Uname: Linux 3.19.0-9-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.16.2-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sun Mar 15 21:55:08 2015 DistUpgraded: 2015-03-15 19:32:57,918 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: vivid DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bbswitch, 0.7, 3.19.0-9-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia-346-updates, 346.47, 3.19.0-9-generic, x86_64: installed nvidia-346-updates-uvm, 346.47, 3.19.0-9-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation GK104 [GeForce GTX 660 Ti] [10de:1183] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: eVga.com. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1303962] Re: please integrate mediascanner2 and media-hub with apparmor
The new thumbnailer uses apparmor queries to determine whether the caller is allowed to access the original file. If not, it denies access to the thumbnail too. ** Changed in: thumbnailer Status: New = Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1303962 Title: please integrate mediascanner2 and media-hub with apparmor Status in Media Hub: Fix Committed Status in Thumbnail generator for all kinds of files: Fix Committed Status in apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in mediascanner2 package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: media-hub and mediascanner are separate processes from apps and are used to play and scan music and video files respectively. Up until now, apps would have to use the music_files_read or video_files_read reserved policy groups to access media. The problem is, these policy groups are reserved and not available to normal AppStore apps in order to prevent information leaks (this user has this video installed) and theft (can access the music and video directly). The path forward is that media-hub and mediascanner are helpers that apps can use and they should integrate with the trust store. AppStore apps: 1. should be able to access their own content (installed or local) 2. should not be able to access, play or otherwise enumerate other apps' media (ie, app 'foo' should not be able to play the facebook app's sound file 3. AppStore apps should be able to enumerate the global music (~/Music) and video (~/Video) library via the mediascanner helper with permission from the user 4. AppStore apps should be able to play the global music (~/Music) and video (~/Video) library via the media-hub with permission from the user 5. AppStore apps should be able to have access to media files with permission from the user. This is already handled by the content-hub paradigm (though someone would need to add a media content provider for the content-hub to have this work) Both media-hub and mediascanner should do something like the below pseudo code: # see 'man aa_getcon()' from libapparmor-dev for more info # conn_name is the unique D-Bus connection name of the application connecting # to media-hub/mediascanner apparmor_profile = org.freedesktop.DBus.GetConnectionAppArmorSecurityContext(conn_name) pkgname = apparmor_profile.split('_')[0] if apparmor_profile == unconfined: # unconfined apps can access all the files allow access elif playback_file in ~/.local/share/$pkgname/... or playback_file in ~/.cache/$pkgname/..: # apps can access their own files allow access elif $pkgname can access playback_file in trust store: # apps can access the files if user said so previously allow access elif playback_file in ~/Music: answer = prompt user for access to global music files if $answer == yes update trust store for $pkgname can enumerate/play ~/Music allow access else: deny access elif playback_file in ~/Videos: answer = prompt user for access to global video files if $answer == yes update trust store for $pkgname can enumerate/play ~/Videos allow access else: deny access else: deny access To have the best user experience and prevent multiple prompting, mediascanner and media-hub should use the same trust store database. I'm not sure that mediascanner2 offers a DBus API for enumerating global media files yet or not (music-app seems to be accessing files in ~/.cache/media-art/ and ~/.cache/mediascanner directly). UPDATE: 2014-05-02 media-hub implemented '1' and '2' already (can access its own data, but not other apps' data) and was marked Fix Released. Trust store integration ('3' and '4') is now being tracked in bug #1315381. mediascanner2 still needs to implement '1' and '2'. The 'audio' and 'video' policy groups will *not* add this access at this time. Instead, apps can use 'read_path' as part of their policy to have access to the mediascanner files. This is workable for the music app, but will block other apps from inclusion in the app store. I want to see on which sim I am being called before answering. Also, in the recent calls panel, each missed call should show to which - of the two sims a call was made. When this is realised, it should even - be able to select that same sim when that phone number is selected to - call back in the dialer panel + of the two sims a call was made. When this is realised, it should then + be able to select that same sim to call back in the dialer panel when + that phone number is selected from missed calls. Also useful would be to have a UI where a user could add an alias to each sim, which would then be used in the dialer-app (or even system- wide) to replace sim 1 and sim 2. thnks! [Touch-packages] [Bug 1397178] Re: kubuntu 14.10 plasma 5 spins up PowerMizer
[Expired for xorg (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1397178 Title: kubuntu 14.10 plasma 5 spins up PowerMizer Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: I have installed 14.10 Plasma 5 on my laptop, which is a vintage 2011 System 76. Of greatest significance is that it has an nvidia 560M graphics card in it. When I first installed 14.04, I noticed that the PowerMizer report of the NVIDIA X Server Settings would report that the graphics chip's clock was more or less constantly spun up to its highest clock rate. Heat and power use were very high, and I constantly heard the fan running. I found there were two ways to fix this: (1) Add a file called 05-nvidia.conf to /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d containing the lines: Section Device Identifier Device0 Driver nvidia VendorName NVIDIA Corporation Option RegistryDwords PowerMizerEnable=0x1; PerfLevelSrc=0x; PowerMizerDefault=0x3; PowerMizerDefaultAC=0x3 EndSection This pegged the graphics card at its lowest possible clock rate, which was adequate for most things but sometimes led to bad playback on some videos. See: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/410089-nvidia- powermizer-how-tweak (2) Revert to the 304 driver. This still spun up to high clock rates a bit more often than it seemed to need to, but was fairly reasonable otherwise. I expected that this would soon be rectified, since I saw that version 337.25 of the driver allegedly fixed some issue with performance in KDE: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/76278/en-us Jump ahead to yesterday when I installed 14.10 plasma 5 - I noticed that even with the 304 driver the PowerMizer reported the clock at its highest rate. With nothing moving on the screen at all and my not touching the mouse, it was pegged. I found that even installing the xorg-edgers driver (340 I believe) had no effect. Furthermore, 340 did not respond to the xorg.conf settings file above. The only way I can get plasma 5 to run reasonably on this machine is to revert to 304 and *also* put the settings file in. This is of course not optimal. Is there some way to determine what exactly is happening that causes the graphics clock to spin up so high? Nothing much is happening. Just scrolling a window in firefox is sufficient to start it. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1469471] Re: Checkbox shown in the ListView Multiselect mode does not obey selected property
I can confirm that when using the package UITK on a ubuntu 15.04 framework using the steps provided by Nekhelesh that I can reproduce the bug. Therefore I have set this bug to confirmed. So this now affects: clock, podbird, music and weather (reboot)? Which have all bumped to the new framework and listitems, although only currently on their dev versions. ** Changed in: ubuntu-ui-toolkit (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-ui-toolkit in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1469471 Title: Checkbox shown in the ListView Multiselect mode does not obey selected property Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The ListItem in Ubuntu.Components 1.2 and higher supports multiselect mode which is controlled by the selectMode property. The selected property controls whether a listitem is selected or not. However it seems that the checkbox shown during multiselect mode doesn't seem to obey the selected property. Steps to reproduce the bug: 1. Run the sample code 2. Long press to active multiselect mode 3. Press on any checkbox visible while in multiselect mode 4. Now press on that listitem. Notice the following, - Clicking on the listitem toggles the selected property. But the checkbox does not seem to respect that. - The selectedIndices array correctly shows that the listitem is selected/unselected on pressing it, but the checkbox just ignores that. I have attached sample code which reproduces the bug in a simple manner.
