Many APIs return only partial results to a query, along with a token

request those results when the user has viewed all of the current
  results.

The obvious trigger would be when the user pulls up at the bottom of
the results list. This feels natural, and it would mirror the pull-
down-at-top-to-refresh behavior. But this could also happen
automatically when the user approaches the bottom of the list, like

2015-08-03 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Renato, that is covered by my point (C) above: it's only a theoretical
problem as long as no other address book apps even exist. If we get to a
point where >30% or so of Ubuntu users are using a non-default address
book or calendar app, then it might become true that most people don't
look in the default app to find the sync setting.

The problem is sometimes during an incoming call the phone never wakes
up or rings at all (and no snap decision). From the remote end the
call just continues to ring and eventually goes to voicemail. When
this occurs the signal strength appears to have at least 3 bars.

It seems ofono is not notifying the upper layers that a call is incoming.
This can be verifed by running the following command:
  dbus-monitor --system | grep CallAdded

This never gets fired during error condition when the incoming call is
  ringing from remote end.

Attached is the ofono log when I got it to happen once (not sure where
in the log corresponds to the failure)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1401136] Re: [messaging-app] selection toggle doesn't unselect items in main view

2015-08-03 Thread Olga Kemmet
Solution provided from UX side, marking as Fix Committed.

** Description changed:

  steps to reproduce
  build r172

  1. launch messaging app, make sure your landing view has several
conversations stored
  2. long press on any list item
  3. check boxes appear next to the list items and you should be able to select
them individually (try it out)
  4. now tap the "box + tick" icon in the header to select all items at the
same time
  5. tap it again

- Expected result:
- As you were able to select all items with one tap on the "box + tick" icon, a
second tap should unselect them
-
  Actual result:
The 2nd tap on the "box + tick" icon in the header does not unselect all list
items as though. Ideally the icon in the header should toggle:
  a) square with tick = select all
  b) empty square = unselect all

- Currently it works correctly in the Address Book and Phone app, apart
- from changing icon in the header.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1478075] Re: Sound indicator should only indicate ringtone volume

2015-08-03 Thread Stuart Langridge
"It's true that with the current UI you can't change the ringtone volume
while media is playing. But there's still no explanation here of why
that would actually be a problem"

An additional piece of information which may weigh into this discussion
(I propose no solutions here) is that of apps and games which play
sounds but do not play constant music. This may be because they are
capable of playing background music but the user has switched it off, or
that the app is not a game but uses sounds for various events. In such a
situation, it is often very difficult to decrease the sound volume of
the game. If the current foreground app is, for example, a game which
plays sounds for events but does not have background music, then it's
very unclear what using the hardware volume keys is *expected* to do in
this situation. Application sounds obey the media volume setting, not
the ringer volume setting (and I assume for this discussion that they
will continue to do so, although see below). If the hardware volume keys
are used when such a game is the current app, should they adjust the
media volume? The phone is not currently playing any media, and there is
no obvious direct feedback to be heard when the media volume adjusts
(unlike, for example, the music app, where a media volume change is
immediately apparent). But if the hardware volume keys adjust the ringer
volume when there is no media *playing*, then it becomes effectively
impossible to decrease the volume of the game's event sounds. Android
and iOS both suffer from this issue, and it is I think at least
partially because there are at least two independent volume settings
(media and ringer) but they are presented as one context-dependent
setting. Maybe separating out the two settings and making them
independently adjustable would help alleviate this confusion (at the
cost of additional complexity)?

Bug description:
This bug is fixed in unity-3d since ubuntu 11.04.
It still exists in unity-2d and will never be fixed as unity-2d is no longer
supported since ubuntu 12.10 (see comment #343).

  *

This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to
  earlier releases as well.

For Precise (12.04) this is again broken for unity-2d (as of 17.7.2012
unity-2d 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1).
Note that if the window has a scrollbar, you can grab that to resize the
window. If not, you are stuck with the 1px border. Workaround: NONE KNOWN (see
comment 320)?

  *

  *Blueprint for Natty, Ubuntu 11.04:

  https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-
  dx-n-resizing-windows

  Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications;
doesn't interfere with anything. We should make some noise about this during
the Natty cycle so people keep their eyes open and file bugs.
2 * Invisible window resize area - around 3px invisible area to allow resize
on all sides.

  *

Working grip backported to gtk2 already available in ppa :
  https://launchpad.net/~bratsche/+archive/gtk

  *

  Workaround for Compiz/Unity: Alt+Middlemousebutton resizes a window
  most comfortably.

  Workaround: Edit /usr/share/themes/Ambiance/metacity-1/metacity-
theme-1.xml. Set the following values in frame_geometry_normal as
  desired:

  Binary package hint: metacity

  - The issue has been an issue for users (especially of large) screens
for several releases- Trackpad users seem to be particularly impacted
by this- The issue appears to have been significantly aggravated in
Lucid by changing the border width from 3 pixels to 1 pixel

The window borders in metacity are far too thin to be used for
comfortable window resizing, and resize handles are not available in
all applications (or even most). In fact, of all the windows I have
open right now, not a single one of them has a resize handle. The
result is that I get a lot of "misses" when I try to drag a window
border, which usually results in my clicking on the wrong window
altogether. The best fix for this usability bug is to create an
"invisible" region around each non-maximized window about 4px thick
that can be used for resizing (in addition to the visible border). Or
perhaps there should be a border thickness option on the System >
Preferences > Windows dialog (although the default thickness should
still be increased considerably). Ideally all windows would also have
a resize handle but I realize that these have to be application
controlled (at least that seems to be the position of the metacity
  team).

First boot welcome wizard in location sections claims GPS is less accurate
than network based location service from HERE.
While this can be theoretically true in some insane corner case, in normal
life GPS is far more accurate.

To help form correct text here are main differences.

GPS - more accurate, but slow to acquire fix, does not work indoors,
drains battery more, no need for internet connection, does not send
  any data out.

Network based location - almost instant to get coarse location, works
indoors, accuracy depends on network coverage in the area, more power
efficient, requires internet connection. To get location data about
visible GSM network and wifi networks needs to be send to 3rd party
  server.

  tested on krillin vivid-proposed r107

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1480947] [NEW] Use SortFilterModel for custom models

2015-08-03 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Public bug reported:

While browsing the UITK documentation, I stumbled upon
https://developer.ubuntu.com/api/apps/qml/sdk-15.04/Ubuntu.Components.SortFilterModel/,
which is essentially QSortFilterProxyModel exposed to QML.

webbrowser-app has a number of custom models written in C++ that inherit
QSortFilterProxyModel. Some of them could most likely be replaced by a
pure QML component with this model from the UITK.

>From a very quick glance, the following models are candidates:
 - HistoryDomainModel
 - BookmarksFolderModel
 - HistoryDomainListChronologicalModel

This would have the advantage of removing a significant amount of custom
C++ code, speeding up build time and unit tests run time.

Bug description:
Reviewing the ubuntu-system-settings UI with the designers, they said
we should use an UbuntuShaped version of the option selectors rather
  than the current ListItem.ItemSelector.

There are some issues with that:

  - it seems wrong to have a ListItem.ItemSelector version if we think
it doesn't look right/shouldn't be used in list based UIs

  - the OptionSelector doesn't work nicely in list (the labels are not
  aligned on other widgets)

  - using OptionSelector makes the code a bit hackish...

I'm not sure what the solution is, but we should probably fix the list
version to look right rather than working around it...

  Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications;
doesn't interfere with anything.

Ideally all windows would also have
a resize handle but I realize that these have to be application
controlled (at least that seems to be the position of the metacity
  team).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1480607] Re: apparmor python3.5 support regressed in 2.10-0ubuntu1

2015-08-03 Thread Steve Beattie
python3-libapparmor does need to support multiple versions of python3.
The reason the 2.10-0ubuntu1 package didn't get python 3.5 support is
that it was built in the ubuntu-security-proposed ppa
(https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security-proposed/+archive/ubuntu/ppa)
and binary copied over to wily-proposed. The ubuntu-security-proposed
ppa does not have the -proposed (or -update) pockets enabled because we
build packages for supported releases in that ppa as well that go into
the -security pockets of released versions. The version of python3-all-
dev that includes the dependency on python3.5-dev has not moved out of
wily-proposed, which is why the apparmor build did not pick it up.

The apparmor 2.10-0ubuntu2 package currently in the ubuntu-security-
proposed ppa which address the regression that prevented the
2.10-0ubuntu1 from migrating from proposed is also missing python3.5
support for the same reason. However, not doing a binary pocket copy and
instead letting it rebuild in wily-proposed should fix that.

2.9.2-0ubuntu2 in wily, this new version fails to provide a
python3-libapparmor package that's built against both available
versions of python3 currently supported in wily.

I don't know if python3-libapparmor needs to support multiple versions
of python3, or if it only needs to support the current version. If it
does need to support multiple versions, please fix this. If it
  doesn't, please build-depend on python3-dev instead of python3-all-
  dev.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1478147] Re: hidden header allows clicking the back button while animating away

Title:
hidden header allows clicking the back button while animating away

Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Create a Page with a hidden header:

  head {
visible: false
locked: true
  }

When pushing this page to the stack, the header will hide by animating
to the top. During this animation the back button can be seen and also
be pressed which causes the page to be popped from the stack.

This is especially problematic when pushing a regular page (with
normal header) on top of the one with the hidden header. The user can
then do a double-tap on the back button and pop both pages from the
stack, even though the developer explicitly restricted that by hiding
  the header.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1480972] [NEW] nm-applet sometimes shows all networks, then none

2015-08-03 Thread Ian
Public bug reported:

I'm using Lubuntu 15.04 on an EeePC 901. Using the home wireless network
is fine, but two times in two different places recently, the nm-applet
has seen all the networks for a few seconds after bootup and then
decided it cannot see any.

(Photos of this are available, but as I can't get scrot to capture the
popup list of lots/no networks, they're via a camera.)

Based on two lines in /var/log/syslog ..

Aug 2 19:35:45 eee901 kernel: [ 23.933607] eeepc_laptop: BIOS says wireless
lan is unblocked, but the pci device is absent
Aug 2 19:35:45 eee901 kernel: [ 23.933614] eeepc_laptop: skipped wireless
hotplug as probably inappropriate for this model

.. very late in the start up process I wondered if the wireless card
was, for some reason, being ignored from this point, but the Ubuntu
Forums wireless script shows that something can still see all the
networks here:

Bug description:
  Current situation:

  1) Search for a scope in app store (for example "Cinema").
  2) Install it
  3) After installation, you have two buttons: Uninstall and Search.
  4) Tap Search.

Instead of being taken to the scope, you get taken to a nested
installation screen. If installing it for 2nd time from there, Search
button doesn't do anything after 2nd install.

  Fix:

"Search" button should take you directly to the scope you just
  installed.

Also "Search" doesn't sound like a clear word for opening the scope,
  maybe consider "Open" instead?

Bug description:
In southern Germany and Austrias it is common to put the famillyname
in front of the firstname. So instead of "John Doe" it would be "Doe,
John". For me this is quite crucial when it comes to business contacts
where I more likely know the famillyname and not so much the firstname
(yes, I could use the search, but that is slower).

So it should be possible to display the names in the addressbook like
  "Famillyname, Firstname".

Here is some information on wikipedia to that issue:
  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_name#Order_of_names_and_use_of_articles

This issue relates to bug #1215373 but is not the same.

Bug description:
  Krillin, rc-proposed, r83

  DESCRIPTION:
I've been trying to track down the cause of the occasional UI freezes on my
Krillin device, and I noticed that whenever the UI freezes for 2-4 seconds, I
get a burst of "PropertiesChanged" signals in dbus-monitor

  Here's a log of what's shown in dbus-monitor:
  http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/11992322/

I'd guess the problem is in the code that actually catches the signals
  and acts accordingly.

  HOW TO REPRODUCE:
  1) Move to a place where many wifi hotspots are available
  2) Connect the device via USB and run "phablet-shell" and then "dbus-monitor"
  3) Use the device while keeping an eye on dbus-monitor output

Thinking about the solution... it'd probably be best if text fields

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1449295] Re: [Icons] Inconsistent tranparent app icon handling

2015-08-03 Thread Matthieu James
Transparent backgrounds should be avoided for application icons cause the
result looks very awkward once the Ubuntu shape and the shadow are applied.
Please try to design something consistent with the core app icons (our icon
guidelines can help).

Bug description:
It would be nice if there were an UI to create your own (virtual)
aggregator scopes straight from the Unity8 dash without any
programming efforts. They would then display data from a few scopes
which the user would be able to select from the ones he has installed
using a layout the user would be able to define as well. Then there
would be a new page in the Unity8 dash which collocates the data in
the way the user wanted to.

Here's a usage scenario outlining why I think this functionality is
  important:

Let's say you read news from 4 custom news sources regularly for which
scopes do exist. Currently, you then need to favorite all of them
separately, resulting in the addition of 4 pages to the dash. As a
result, you will have to swipe a lot to reach the scopes you want,
  which is quite annoying.

Now imagine you need to do the same for other types of content and you
will have a notion of how crowded your dash will become. To keep it
short, the user experience will be suboptimal.

  UX comment-

This is part of a bigger redesign across different projects. The
required design for this bug is ‘paused' while we await the outcome of
ongoing discussions regarding the Scopes as apps and Scopes
  customisation projects.

  [ impact ]

Previously, init.d scripts that were replaced by upstart jobs had
"upstart-job" symlink as a redirect in-place, which directed users at
using upstart commands. Despite the good intentions, that never
actually taught people about the correct interfaces. Now with the
advent of co-installability of multiple init systems, users may have
systemd, upstart, and sysv-init all installed on users system and have
init.d scripts / upstart jobs / systemd units all available. To avoid
any daubt, we should support executing /etc/init.d/ scripts which may
call into upstart, or into systemd, or actually execute the script in
question depending on whether there is native configuration for that
particular job and which init system we are running under.

  [ test case ]

Invoking init.d script should invoke upstart commands, for example:

  $ /etc/init.d/ssh status

In Ubuntu 13.10, the Upstart job and the init.d script do not work
properly. In previous versions, the init.d script was a symlink to
the wrapper script around upstart (/lib/init/upstart-job). This
conflict means that if the server was started using the init.d script,
upstart does not recognize that the server is running and will attempt
to start a second instance of mysqld.

Also problematic is that if the upstart job is started using the
service or start commands, the init.d script's "stop" function runs a
mysql shutdown, but upstart simply restarts mysqld (because it's
marked respawn in the upstart config).

  Description: Ubuntu 14.04

The problem in some setup was that the upgrade von 12.04 to 14.04 requres the
adjustment of the InnoDB log size. Therefore the start of MySQL via upstart
failed directly while the one via init started successfully and then failed as
below.

  1. From System Settings, or the first-run setup, choose a closed Wi-Fi
network.
  2. Observe the padlock icons in the network list vs. the authentication
dialog.

  What you see:
  * The standalone icon has a thin shackle, while the network emblem has a
thick shackle.
  * In the standalone icon, the shackle is inset from the edge, while in the
network emblem it's flush with the edge.
  * The standalone icon has a keyhole, while the network emblem does not.

What you should see: The icons are exactly the same.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1449295] Re: [Icons] Inconsistent tranparent app icon handling

2015-08-03 Thread Michael Terry
I agree authors SHOULDN'T use transparent backgrounds for icons.

But they currently CAN. And what should we do in that case?

I'm proposing that we default to a white (or black) background for them,
rather then actually rendering it as transparent. But I don't care what
the solution is, as long as it's consistent. Currently, we are
inconsistently rendering the icon.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1306078] Re: [system settings] syncing over 3G should be configurable and off by default

2015-08-03 Thread Olga Kemmet
There are several issues to consider here:

Using the Phone as an example is a bad idea because it is a special
case. The phone app does NOT requite sync but access to different areas
on the device. Notifications, contacts, even messages to some extent.
Calls, incoming, missed and outgoing are associated with the phone hence
a list of recent calls wold be naturally found within the phone app.

Syncing however can be both, specific and generic. As per comment #9 you
might be wondering why your data for a specific app is outdated while
you are using it (C) but this might have nothing to do with the actual
app but with the fact that you are not willing to use 3G/4G for syncing
and instead WiFi. If a user has to set that generic setting for every
single application which requires sync and is installed on the device,
then it starts to become a very cumbersome and very annoying.

I agree with Renato, we need a way to have an overview on all apps which
need sync and the best place for that are System Settings. Also, not
every developer will invest time into sync settings and might even
assume that we are handling at least the high level ones. I also agree
with Matthew, some app specific settings (e.g. do not sync images over a
certain size) should be app specific.

We do not know how often users will use different apps, apart from the
default ones. Some might want to handle private and work related events
in different calendars, different email applications for work and
family, etc. Meaning, the argument that we do not have alternatives to
default apps yet, doesn't mean we won't have it in (near) future (C). In
design and development we always deal with theoretical problems and
trying to solve them before the user actually complains. ;)

Bottom line:
We need decisions and agreement on what is considered a "generic" setting for
sync. Anything which goes outside this definition will have to go into app
specific settings.

  desired resolution:

In general Sync/background updates per up should be allowed in System

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1430416] Re: [OSK] Should remember keyboard layout per conversation

2015-08-03 Thread Michael Sheldon
To implement this we'd need to devise some mechanism to provide language
hints to the keyboard. If we wanted to do this purely internally this
could be achieved by exposing some hint via the keyboard's QML bindings
which the SDK's text field/area could use to inform the keyboard of the
change in language when focused. Alternatively we could suggest this
upstream as a property on the Qt TextInput type and provide the
information via the QtInputContextPlugin interface like is already done
for the inputMethodHints property.

I'd guess that's a decision that really needs to be arrived at by the
SDK team, but we should be able to support either approach from the
keyboard side. The first option would likely be less work, but this
seems like the sort of thing that should perhaps be standardised across
Qt apps if upstream are interested in this functionality.

  * select a different keyboard layout
  * go back to the first conversation

  Expected:
  * the selected layout should be restored for each conversation

  Current:
  * layout is "global" for the whole session

Thinking about the solution... it'd probably be best if text fields
had a "context" property that the input method could read and restore
layouts per context. If a field had no context, it would fall back to
  the generic behaviour - per-c

Rationale: you generally change layouts per contact, to write to
  someone in a different language.

  -

This would require deeper functionality between the OSK and SDK /
messaging app than we currently have - the proposal sounds good but
not much to add from UX POV at this stage

and good if you want quick access to your text messages but you are also
able to reply to the text message without unlocking the phone.

  in summary;

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1480674] [NEW] Unable to Unlock Computer

2015-08-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am unable to unlock my computer using LightDM.
When I enter my password and press unlock, the screen goes black, as if I just
relocked the computer, then returns to the same unlock screen after I press any
key.

The workaround I found is to hit click "Switch Users", and login through
that path.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1480004] Re: Prevent cgroup filesystem from getting mounted

2015-08-03 Thread Serge Hallyn
Yes, trusty's /etc/init/docker.io.conf has:

mount -t tmpfs -o uid=0,gid=0,mode=0755 cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup

** Changed in: cgroup-lite (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => Invalid

Title:
Prevent cgroup filesystem from getting mounted

Status in cgroup-lite package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
On trusty (14.04.1), I installed `cgroup-lite` (1.9) which mounts the
virtual FS for cgroups subsystems in `/sys/fs/cgroup/*`. I've executed
  `cgclear` (from the `cgroup-bin` package) and uninstalled/purged
`cgroup-lite`. When I reboot, the subsystems are mounted again.
Question is: how can I prevent this from happening? Is there any
config/script file that is read/executed when booting that
  accomplishes this?

No other packages related to cgroups (e.g. `lxc`, `libcgroup1` or
  `cgmanager`) are installed.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1479207] Re: Never-MarkAuto-Sections not working correctly

Status in apt source package in Precise:

Status in apt source package in Trusty:
  Fix Released
Status in apt source package in Vivid:

Status in apt package in Debian:

Bug description:
  [ SRU Justification ]
Not only is this behaviour broken for every day use, but it also completely
breaks livefs generation for ubuntukylin, and causes most of $flavour-desktop
to be on the autoremove list in any point release livefs, making this bug
point-release critical.

  [ Test Case ]
Install a metapackage (say, ubuntu-standard), and then "apt-get --purge
autoremove ubuntu-standard" and check that only that package is removed, rather
than large chunks of its dependencies.

Further, also run the test case from comment 2 of bug #1429041 and
make sure the previous fix didn't regress.

  [ Regression Potential ]
My fix was tested locally against both test cases and passes with flying
colours, so I don't see how this can make things any worse than they already
are.

  [ Original Report ]
In current trusty, vivid, and wily, when you install ubuntu-minimal (from the
"metapackages" section) in a clean chroot, some 75ish packages are installed.
If you then "apt-get --purge autoremove ubuntu-minimal", some large portion
(between 20 and 40, depending on the target release) of those dependencies are
removed again.

If this test is repeated putting the release pocket version of
apt/libapt on hold, the purge/autoremove only removes the metapackage,
but none of its dependencies, so this is likely a regression brought
on from the previous autoremoval fix.

This bug is release-critical for the 14.04.3 point release, as we
install using metapackages instead of tasks in point releases, thus
meaning that anyone removing ubuntu-desktop for any reason will end up
with dozens (potentially hundreds) of packages on the autoremoval
  list.

Can we have a single message application, with the integration of other

Like to chat with facebook friend or gtalk friends, i dont need to have

I saw this feature in SailFish OS, where single SMS application is considered

Title:
[indicators]/OSD provide no visual clue that they modify bluetooth
  device volumes

Status in Canonical System Image:
  Confirmed
Status in Ubuntu UX:
  Fix Committed
Status in indicator-bluetooth package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Connect a bluetooth audio device (headset, speakers) to the ubuntu
  phone.

Play music/enter into a call, so that you have active audio to the
  device.

Adjust the volume, using the UI or keys on the ubuntu phone.

The volume of the bluetooth headset changes (good) but the ui contains
no clue that this is what the phone is doing (less good). The standard
volume indicator is shown. This can lead to user confusion if they are
not currently using the paired bluetooth accessory, and have forgotten
it is paired. On other devices the volume indicator changes to provide
visual feedback that the bluetooth device volume is being set.

  --

  Desired resolution:

Please use this icon to replace the volume icon. The icon is bluetooth
volume which we had design already.

didrocks is correct. That's what I envisioned when originally making the

Provide a property to make a ListView header "sticky"

Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
BlackBerry Cascades (their Qml toolkit) provides a
"ListHeaderMode.Sticky" property that would be very welcome in the
Ubuntu Toolkit. I'll let their docs describe it:

"We also use the headerMode property to customize the behavior of the
header items in the list. By using ListHeaderMode.Sticky, when the
list scrolls and a header reaches the top of the visible area, the
header stays there (or "sticks") as the list continues to scroll,
until a new header reaches the top."

http://developer.blackberry.com/native/documentation/cascades/ui/lists/lists_create_main_ui.html

The Unity8 Dash seems to have an internal component that works in a
similar fashion. Maybe it could be generalized:

Bug description:
What I already wrote on the ubuntu-phone mailing list and what many people
found also as a problem is the visibility of the icons in the panel. I attached
a photo from my bq. One of the photos was taken in a quite dark room so we are
able to see the icons more or less clearly but then outside I'm only able to
clearly see the active icon even with the brightness set on 100%. How could
anyone create grey icons on a grey background?! My proposition is all icons
white, and the active one alien-green like #12ed0d or light orange. Yellow will
also be not the very best idea. In my opinion the best solution is light-green
and white and then the background can stay as it is now.
The other member of Polish Translators Team has a MX4 with the same problem
so it is not only bq.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1452766] Re: [Browser] Cannot favorite site when it is loading

** Description changed:

  Simple bug but annoying:

- When a site is loading, the favorite star is not visible.
+ When a site is loading, the favourite star is not visible.

  Use-case:
you get a website from a friend, or you click a link on a page when the
network suddenly goes away. You want to save that page to look at it later,
when your connection comes back. This is not possible because you can only
bookmark pages after they're fully loaded.
+
+ --- --- --- --- ---
+ UX Comment:
+ Having tried to reproduce the above use-case, I found the following:
+ 1. Attempted to visit a URL with no active connection.
+ 2. 'Network Error' page is shown.
+ 3. User may still tap star to favourite entered URL.
+
+ In the 'look at it later' use case described above, the user will still
+ been able to favourite the URL for later use.
+
+ In the absence of any other use-cases where this may cause a problem, I
+ believe the current behaviour (intended to address the fact that 'one

Status in ubuntu-themes package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  1) Using 7px emblems on an already small icon needs to be
  reconsidered.

  2) Using a single icon to indicate new messages vs chat status is a
  challenge.

We would like to explore an icon set which is more functional in terms
of communicating, and better adheres to the intended aesthetic.

  A couple of early ideas:
  - make use of the mono status icons that were used in the 10.04 (and 10.10?)
Me Menu.
  - Experiment with bigger emblems to create a clearer overlap.

  Factors to consider:
  - accessbility shape vs colour
  - size
  - consistency between the title icons and the standalone status icons
  - visual style and theme of Ubuntu

Bug description:
  Hi,

When there is less than 10% battery, when phone is locked indicator will be
shown with "OK" and ... one more botton (maybe cancel, I do not remember).

Also, if you have phone locked and you get a call, you get ability to
  answer it.

However, when you have combination - low battery with message displayed, and
in the same time you get a call - there is only battery indicator widget, and
you will not be able to answer call even if you discard battery indicator
widget. I guess only one indicator can be displayed at the time, and in this
case it is only battery indicator, so answering phone is not possible.

I am using Aquarius E4.5 with official current ubuntu release.

  Regards,
  Petar

[Touch-packages] [Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult

2015-08-03 Thread Jeremy Huddleston
@colin-law no, this bug does not apply to Unity. This bug was filed
years before Unity even existed. If it is "fixed" by changing to Unity,
that's great for Unity users, but simply sweeping an issue under the rug
because you changed window systems doesn't change the fact the the bug
continues to exist in the windowing systems that the issue was reported
against.

Bug description:
This bug is fixed in unity-3d since ubuntu 11.04.
It still exists in unity-2d and will never be fixed as unity-2d is no longer
supported since ubuntu 12.10 (see comment #343).

  *

This should mostly be fixed for Natty and might get backported to
  earlier releases as well.

For Precise (12.04) this is again broken for unity-2d (as of 17.7.2012
unity-2d 5.12.0-0ubuntu1.1).
Note that if the window has a scrollbar, you can grab that to resize the
window. If not, you are stuck with the 1px border. Workaround: NONE KNOWN (see
comment 320)?

  *

  *Blueprint for Natty, Ubuntu 11.04:

  https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/packageselection-
  dx-n-resizing-windows

  Work items1 * Make sure the new resize grip fits in current applications;
doesn't interfere with anything.

Ideally all windows would also have
a resize handle but I realize that these have to be application
controlled (at least that seems to be the position of the metacity
  team).
