However the menu implementation doesn’t take advantage of that, and doesn’t offer any contextual action for text selection. This is not yet visible for end users as text selection with a mouse didn’t work until very recently (bug #1459392), and the fix will be released with oxide 1.9. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1441095] Re: novatel: improve probing for Dell branded modems
I installed the new package in wily, looks this device can't work, it can't recognize the SIM card. We had two devices, same type from Lenovo, just one of them works for trusty which I tested them last year, but I can't find another device now. :) So now ModemManager could finish the device detecting for other device. :) ModemManager[2063]: [1443157535.179905] [mm-iface-modem.c:266] load_unlock_required_ready(): Couldn't check if unlock required: 'SIM not inserted' -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1441095 Title: novatel: improve probing for Dell branded modems Status in ModemManager: Confirmed Status in OEM Priority Project: Incomplete Status in OEM Priority Project trusty series: New Status in modemmanager package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: New Status in modemmanager source package in Trusty: New Status in network-manager source package in Trusty: New Bug description: Dell rebrands modems from different vendors, including Novatel, Sierra and Ericsson. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1465377] Re: Change login while other user is logged in: sometimes crashes/freezes/hangs
[Expired for xorg (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1465377 Title: Change login while other user is logged in: sometimes crashes/freezes/hangs Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: When trying to login with a user account while another user is already logged in, Ubuntu sometimes crashes/hanges/freezes! This bug exists for many years, so for many Ubuntu versions - even in the latest LTS versions with fresh standard installation (Unity), 64 Bit. During the years of this bug, I had different computers (hardware) with different graphics cards (nVidia, AMD) different Ubuntus (32 Bit, 64 Bit, LTS, non-LTS). This bug bugs us for so many years because we have two computers (exchanged every couple of years with fresh Ubuntu installations) that each has multiple login accounts (for all family members). Every once in a while one user wants to login while another is already logged in. The login screen allowws to login while another user is logged in, so this should basically work. Other scenario is, the the logged in user simple loggs in to another user via the system menu (top right). The results are miscellanious: sometimes it works, sometimes, the graphics get distorted, sometimes, the screen just turns black (sometimes with a white cursopr line blinking), sometimes it freezes, sometimes it crashes. All in all: it's very unstable and buggy. Last messages in /var/log/kernel.log: - ... All hotkeys in system parameters->keyboard->hotkeys->windows works perfect with any keyboard layout. Set hotkeys to switch sources (e.g. Ctrl+Shift or CapsLock). 1c. Select "Allow different sources for each window" radio button. 1d. Select "New windows use the default source" radio button. 2. Run any application (e.g. gedit) and switch keyboard to second input language (Russian). 3. Lock the screen (Ctrl+Alt+L) or just wait idle time. 4. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1499075] Re: python3.4.3 SRU breaks awscli
Hello Nelson, or anyone else affected, Accepted python-botocore into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python- botocore/0.29.0+repack-2ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1499322] Re: Wily: No Dash Icon After Package Install Until New Session
Doesn't happen to all newly installed though certainly for some. So some examples of packages that don't show till a log out/in may be useful. On a fresh 15.10 install today 4 examples vlc - shows audacious - shows synaptic - doesn't show nvidia-settings - doesn't show >From the above very short list the 2 that don't show immediately happen to not have a %letter at end of the .desktop's Exec= line, the 2 that do show do have such an ending.. [Touch-packages] [Bug 748539] Re: Multi-monitor - Panel and launcher visible on top of multimonitor non-focused fullscreen apps
I am confirming the same problem as in #38 and #39. The bug still persists and it is very annoying. I am running Ubuntu 14.04.3 with VMware Workstation. When I have a VM running full-screen on one monitor and I switch focus to a different window, the Unity top bar appears over the full-screen VMware Workstation. Switching the focus back to the Workstation does not resolve the problem. Only switching it from full-screen and then back helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to unity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/748539 Title: Multi-monitor - Panel and launcher visible on top of multimonitor non- focused fullscreen apps Status in Ayatana Design: Fix Released Status in Unity: Fix Released Status in Unity 6.0 series: Won't Fix Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Binary package hint: unity See the attached screenshot. All hotkeys in system parameters->keyboard->hotkeys->windows works perfect with any keyboard layout. That hotkey still work with english layout. If you use english and two different non-latin layouts this workaround helps only with one of them. Dear Ubuntu users and developers! What shortcut for keyboard layout switching do you use 4. On which session you have problems - that is one from Unity, GNOME Shell, GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Metacity), GNOME FlashBack/Fallback (Compiz) 5. I'm running Ubuntu 14.04.3 (3.19.0-28-generic #30~14.04.1-Ubuntu). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/874535 Title: Volume Slider Jumps, due to rapidly changing hardware jack sense state Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: In Oneiric Release, The volume slider randomly jump down a notch or two for fraction of a second, even when there is no audio playing on the system. I have once filed a bug upstream (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=582747) which never got any attention. My suggested workaround in the upstream bug would at least prevent one bad effect the bug is having if you define cups "instances" in your /etc/cups/lpoptions or ~/.cups/lpoptions - either using old kde 3.5 print configuration dialog or "lpoptions" command line. Read the loptions man page to learn about cups "instances". They are really useful. If anybody knows an alternative I'd be happy to learn about it as well. Multiple "queues" (printers) for the same "device URL" are not an alternative, as at least /usr/share/system-config- printer/system-config-printer.py (System->Administration->Printing) doesn't seem to allow setting up multiple printers with the same device file due to a cups error (client-error-not-possible) occurring if you try (at least for the cnij_usb: backend I'm using). If the cups instances are here to stay and somebody gave me some tips on how to get my code accepted by upstream I'd maybe take some effort to implement instances in the gtk libprintbackend-cups library. But there is some other printing dialog efforts going on. E.g. "Common Printing Dialog" (https://wiki.edubuntu.org/CommonPrintingDialog) On this (https://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/OpenPrinting_Summit_San_Francisco_2009) page you find some nice slides (https://www.linuxfoundation.org/images/4/4d/CommonPrintingDialogLF09.pdf) about it. Does anybody know if there are any useable results from this project yet ? Original Description I was querying for columns in the counters column family starting with 'Ubuntu ' as I was looking for the counts of bugs reported about packages. In the column family I discovered 'Ubuntu 12.10:indicator-stickynotes' and was having trouble finding errors for that package because it is from a PPA. Given that the package is from a PPA it shouldn't be appearing in the counters column family at all though. From daisy/submit.py: package = data.get('Package', '') src_package = data.get('SourcePackage', '') problem_type = data.get('ProblemType', '') third_party = False if '[origin:' in package: third_party = True Then before running update_release_pkg_counter we check for 'if not third_party'. Looking at least some of the oops for indicator- stickynotes all of them had '[origin:' in the Package key. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1499473] [NEW] dash printf builtin does not honor \xNN to print hexadecimal
Public bug reported: VERSION AND CONTEXT === $ uname -a; lsb_release -a; dash --version; dpkg -s dash Linux alain-Desktop 3.13.0-63-generic #103-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 14 21:42:59 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux No LSB modules are available. Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS Release:14.04 Codename: trusty Package: dash Essential: yes Status: install ok installed Priority: required Section: shells Installed-Size: 228 Maintainer: Ubuntu Developers Architecture: amd64 Version: 0.5.7-4ubuntu1 Depends: debianutils (>= 2.15), dpkg (>= 1.15.0) Pre-Depends: libc6 (>= 2.14) Description: POSIX-compliant shell The Debian Almquist Shell (dash) is a POSIX-compliant shell derived from ash. . Since it executes scripts faster than bash, and has fewer library dependencies (making it more robust against software or hardware failures), it is used as the default system shell on Debian systems. Homepage: http://gondor.apana.org.au/~herbert/dash/ Original-Maintainer: Gerrit Pape BUG DESCRIPTION AND HOW TO REPRODUCE Pretty well all is in the title! Try this in a terminal: $ bash -c 'printf "\x41\n"'; dash -c 'printf "\x41\n"'; $(which printf) '\x41\n' A \x41 A In case you suspect that comes from expansion in the terminal, you can do the same under dash (type dash in the terminal and do the same line). The result is identical. Same thing if you have a script: #! /bin/dash printf '\x41\n' printf "\x41\n" # We do both quotes and double quotes in case there is an escaping issue! This script will display: \x41 \x41 WHAT IS EXPECTED: Of course what is expected is that dash would display, same as bash and GNU printf: A That is what is described in all printf's documentations I could ever read, starting from the ancestor: #include int main(){ printf("\x41\n"); } Name this file /tmp/test.c, compile it with gcc /tmp/test.c -o /tmp/test Then run /tmp/test You will obviously get: A SUMMARY: Testing various printfs with the string: "\x41\n" Produces the expected output (capital letter A followed by line feed) with: - the C printf - the bash builtin - the GNU printf (in /usr/bin) Produces an un-escaped output with dash! I am still searching for dash documentation of the builtin printf, but I seriously doubt such an output for printing '\x41' is even POSIX compliant. INTERSTING NOTE: === We could suspect there would be the same issue when converting numbers from octal... but no, all is fine with octal! $ bash -c 'printf "\101\n"'; dash -c 'printf "\101\n"'; $(which printf) '\101\n' A A A In octal, be it bash, dash or the GNU printf all outputs are identical. In any case someone might consider "it is not a bug, it is a feature" to NOT honour escaping of hexadecimal and honour the octal escaping we can say at least that this "feature" is a lack of consistency in converting numbers to chars with dash! INTERESTING NOTE2: = I read from the description of dash on the launchpad: (...) 'dash' which is the Debian Almquist Shell (dash) is a POSIX-compliant shell derived from ash. Well, I did the same test on my (not Ubuntu-related) Synology that is precisely running ash embedded in busybox (not bash, not dash) and doing printf '\x41\n' Produces the expected output: A + LF [Exact version of this 'ash': BusyBox v1.16.1 (2014-02-11 20:12:01 CST) built-in shell (ash) ] So there might have been some distortion in the derivation from ash! ** Affects: dash (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to dash in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1499473 Title: dash printf builtin does not honor \xNN to print hexadecimal Status in dash package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: VERSION AND CONTEXT === $ uname -a; lsb_release -a; dash --version; dpkg -s dash Linux alain-Desktop 3.13.0-63-generic #103-Ubuntu SMP Fri Aug 14 21:42:59 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux No LSB modules are available. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1290847] Re: pyvenv fails due to mising ensurepip module
There have been some discussions about this via other channels (e.g. IRC). We're probably at least going to patch Python so that if you try to do `python3 -m venv` and ensurepip (i.e. via python3-venv binary package) isn't installed, you'll get a more helpful message that instructs you to `sudo apt-get install python3-venv`. I think we all agree this would be good to add. The second part of our discussions, which is still unsettled, is whether to promote `python3.X-venv` to a Recommends. Some viewpoints see this as a (mild) abuse of Debian Policy, but OTOH it may be an acceptable one to improve the user-friendliness of the tool. apt-get by default installs Recommends (with an option to not do so) where as Suggests are not installed by default (with an option to do so).
