You don't need to change unity8. The immediate goal is for unity8 to remain on the tablet screen, and have nothing (well a black screen) drawn on the external monitor. This is mostly happening, but I'm experiencing problems related to input. Steps to repro: 1. When you plug in the external monitor, nothing will appear on it (for later), but unity8 should still be interactive on the N7 - unity8 will flicker when the display config changes, due to it tearing down the old gl context and creating a new one. - unity8 is not getting any touch input events. I checked that USC is not sending it any. [1] - however the vol up/down key does cause the volume notification to appear. 2. Now unplug the external monitor. - *sometimes* unity8 works fine, gets input events again just fine and works great. - *sometimes* unity8 crashes as soon as you tap on the screen. It crashes because USC shuts down [2]! Relevant failure message: ERROR: /home/gerry/dev/projects/mir/mir-0.15/src/server/input/android/input_sender.cpp(218): Throw i

Bhat - 2015-07-22 19:42:38 == Hi Anton, We can set the governor's tunable 'sampling_down_factor' to decrease the rate of updates. When this tunable is set to a value greater than 1, the sampling period of the governor is increased during the peak load to sampling_period times sampling_down_factor. This will reduce the jitter caused by od_dbs_timer() when the cpu is busy. I am currently running benchmarks to find out the optimal value for this tunable and will post them soon. Thanks and Regards, Shilpa == Comment: #2 - Anton Blanchard - 2015-07-31 03:44:49 == FYI We are also seeing high levels of CPU consumed by this on a LAMP workload: 2.54% kworker/0:0 [kernel.kallsyms] [k] osq_lock | ---osq_lock | |--99.83%-- mutex_optimistic_spin | __mutex_lock_slowpath | mutex_lock | | | |--80.08%-- od_dbs_timer 2.5% of total CPU time spent in the od_dbs_timer mutex. == Comment: #3 - Anton Blanchard - 2015-07-31 06:00:45 == Hitting this on a customer setup, raising priority == Comment: #4 - Shilpasri G. Bhat - 2015-08-03 06:47:40 == I used `perf top` and `perf record` to observe the overhead caused by 'osq_lock'. Both with ebizzy and SPECPower's ssjb workload I am able to see an overhead of 0.03% caused by 'osq_lock' with default governor settings. With sampling_down_factor=100, (1second) I am able to see 0.00% of overhead by 'osq_lock'. So this might not be a good data point to showcase, but by reducing the od_dbs_timer interrupts we are guaranteed to decrease the overhead caused by 'osq_lock'. == Comment: #5 - VAIDYANATHAN SRINIVASAN - 2015-08-03 09:09:09 == Hi Anton, Thanks for opening the bz to track and fix this issue. Shilpa is trying different workarounds. Here is our plan: (1) Use sampling_down_factor and other tunables in current Ubuntu releases to workaround the issue or minimise the impact. (2) Redesign cpufreq subsystem on powerpc similar to intel pstate driver so that we can program timers and cancel them dynamically based on different utilization points. Target Ubuntu 16.04 and then backport to 14.04.x and other distros. (3) Enhance design for (2) buy estimating core level utilization without running timers in each thread and then decide the target PState (4) Explore hardware assist so that we can avoid per-core estimation in software but still be able to set per-core PState. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1328183] Re: User-Agent string results in poor UX on web
Thanks for the discussion of this issue. I came here from Bug #1506836, learned something, and now I've just finished fixing the code on my own site to handle "mobi" and "like android" tokens correctly :-) I've also submitted a feature request to LastPass. To broaden the discussion slightly, could anyone comment on the likelihood of any of the following things being implemented? They would all provide a (perhaps unfriendly) workaround in the situation where a particular website refuses to play ball but a user has a desperate need for it to work correctly: * Provide a button or something in the browser to explicitly switch UA string (like Sogou does to handle Chinese websites that require IE6 brokenness) * Support an "about:debug" page or similar that allows a custom UA string to be typed in * Allow the user to edit the override list on their phone (even just a text file editable in the terminal would do) * Support plugins in the browser that would allow third-party developers to fix the problem for you -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to webbrowser-app in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1328183 Title: User-Agent string results in poor UX on web Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: The User-Agent string for the browser is similar enough to the Android browser User-Agent, that it creates a poor experience when browsing the web on an Ubuntu phone. An inordinately large number of web sites persistently advertise to "install our app" instead of providing the best web experience; an app which cannot be installed. This is exacerbated by the pervasiveness of webapps on Ubuntu phone, which simply embed the mobile web site with webapp-container, and still result in seeing such advertisements, despite the fact that the "app" on Ubuntu is already installed, and the Android apps being advertised are simply not installable. Having all the big web sites telling users of Ubuntu that they should be using Android instead, is not very good for the user experience at all. ** Tags added: regression-release -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1507062 Title: After suspend resume network manager fails to set default route entry to routing table for mobile broadband connection Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: This is regression from 10.04. It seems to reproduce often but not always which might point to some kind of race condition handled badly. Basic setup: * Huawei USB 3G modem * Network manager set to auto connect with saved pin * Laptop which has very few suspend-resume issues so I use suspending all the time I noticed the bug that modem led and network manager indicated that there was a connection. But connection didn't seems to work. My initial workaround in hurry was just to pull the modem from laptop and restart both modem manager and network manager. (they don't like modem unplugging or individual restarts but those are long standing separated bugs that I haven't cared to report) After restarting connection comes up working. I decided to investigate what is broken after resume and I could narrow issue to be that default route is missing from routing table. That resulted to very simple fix where I can simple manually add the missing default route. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1507062] [NEW] After suspend resume network manager fails to set default route entry to routing table for mobile broadband connection
Public bug reported: This is regression from 10.04. Broken table after suspend: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface link-local * 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 ppp0 rantapallo * 255.255.255.255 UH75000 ppp0 Working table before suspend: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface default * 0.0.0.0 U 75000 ppp0 link-local * 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 ppp0 rantapallo * 255.255.255.255 UH75000 ppp0 Command to add the missing route manually: sudo route add default netmask 0.0.0.0 metric 750 dev ppp0 That is at least so far only missing part of connection setup after suspend. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: bash 4.3-7ubuntu1.5 [origin: goobuntu-trusty-testing-desktop] ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-44.73-generic 3.13.11-ckt12 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-44-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.6 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: X-Cinnamon Date: Tue Feb 17 15:49:30 2015 SourcePackage: bash UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) modified.conffile..etc.bash.bashrc: [modified] mtime.conffile..etc.bash.bashrc: 2015-01-27T03:27:18.751405 [Test Case] Adapted from the Debian bug report: 1. echo "set revert-all-at-newline on" > bug.inputrc 2. INPUTRC=bug.inputrc bash 3. echo hello 4. ^P^U^N^M [Hold down control and type "punm".] Bash should die immediately with SIGABRT. [Regression Potential] Relatively low. The change has no effect at all unless _rl_revert_all_lines() is called, which only happens if revert-all-at-newline is set, and then only when a newline is typed. So, the potential for regression is essentially zero for non-interactive shells and for anyone not using revert-all-at-newline (which is not the default). Further, this change appeared upstream and in both Debian and Ubuntu over a year ago, so it's had plenty of public testing. lib/readline/misc.c:_rl_revert_all_lines() contains a loop which iterates over history entries, reverting changes to each history entry. This patch causes entry->data, which points to the per-entry undo list, to be cleared before reverting edits rather than after. At first glance, this shouldn't make any difference. However, it prevents rl_do_undo() from replacing the history entry with one reflecting the change. Otherwise, the entry gets freed, leaving _rl_revert_all_lines() with an invalid pointer. _Not_ having an invalid pointer and double-free certainly can't be worse than the current situation. Since we're avoiding is making the pointer invalid rather than not doing the free, the chance of a new leak is pretty much nonexistent. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1422795] Re: bash crashes often if inputrc contains revert-all-at-newline
This was fixed in 4.3-8 and so is already fixed in utopic and later. It will require an SRU to fix in trusty. I've attached a debdiff containing the needed change. ** Description changed: Debian bug: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=747341 The Debian bug includes complete reproduction case. Basically: with .inputrc containing set revert-all-at-newline On Go back in the commandline history, edit a command, then submit a different command (may be empty) Such as: $ ls something $ Attached diff is confirmed to fix the issue. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: bash 4.3-7ubuntu1.5 [origin: goobuntu-trusty-testing-desktop] ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-44.73-generic 3.13.11-ckt12 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-44-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.6 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: X-Cinnamon Date: Tue Feb 17 15:49:30 2015 SourcePackage: bash UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) modified.conffile..etc.bash.bashrc: [modified] mtime.conffile..etc.bash.bashrc: 2015-01-27T03:27:18.751405 + + + [Test Case] + + Adapted from the Debian bug report: + + 1. echo "set revert-all-at-newline on" > bug.inputrc + 2. INPUTRC=bug.inputrc bash + 3. echo hello + 4. ^P^U^N^M [Hold down control and type "punm".] + + Bash should die immediately with SIGABRT. + + + [Regression Potential] + + Relatively low. + + The change has no effect at all unless _rl_revert_all_lines() is called, + which only happens if revert-all-at-newline is set, and then only when a + newline is typed. So, the potential for regression is essentially zero for + non-interactive shells and for anyone not using revert-all-at-newline (which + is not the default). + + Further, this change appeared upstream and in both Debian and Ubuntu over + a year ago, so it's had plenty of public testing. + + lib/readline/misc.c:_rl_revert_all_lines() contains a loop which iterates + over history entries, reverting changes to each history entry. This patch + causes entry->data, which points to the per-entry undo list, to be cleared + before reverting edits rather than after. At first glance, this shouldn't + make any difference. However, it prevents rl_do_undo() from replacing the + history entry with one reflecting the change. Otherwise, the entry gets + freed, leaving _rl_revert_all_lines() with an invalid pointer. + + _Not_ having an invalid pointer and double-free certainly can't be worse + than the current situation. Since we're avoiding is making the pointer + invalid rather than not doing the free, the chance of a new leak is pretty + much nonexistent. ** Patch added: "debdiff containing the upstream patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnubash/+bug/1422795/+attachment/4497315/+files/bash-readline-revert.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to bash in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1422795 Title: bash crashes often if inputrc contains revert-all-at-newline Status in Gnu Bash: New Status in bash package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in bash package in Debian: Unknown Bug description: Debian bug: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=747341 The Debian bug includes complete reproduction case. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1507025] Re: Shell Command Injection with the hostname
I can't imagine the effort involved in hardening all applications to treat the hostname as untrusted input. ISPs that sell vservers are really no different from Intel or AMD or whoever makes your CPU -- you trust them completely and totally with your data, your executables, and your entire operating environment. They can inject anything they wish into your system's memory whenever they wish. Making sure the dhcp clients don't allow setting these kinds of hostnames however, that might be a good idea. Enforcing the usual dns guidelines of a-zA-Z0-9-_ might be worthwhile.. Exactly. I strongly believe the bundle made by libreoffice-dictionaries is quite a good one, and I'm not the only one thinking that. Now, if there are two dictionaries for the same language we'll probably going to just pick the one in LO-dicts, since that's way easier to handle from a downstream point of view, if you disagree I'd just forward you to the libreoffice bug tracker. If there is a missing one and you can provide/link it I'd just ask to the LO people to get it in the bundle. If a dictionary in the bundle gets outdated just ask them to update it. I've already sent them some requests, and they are always responsive and helpful. >From my point of view, feel free to use me as a proxy for those requests, >using this (once I get this package synced) or Debian's bug trackers. [Touch-packages] [Bug 268953] Re: [needs-packaging] provide all dictionaries available for hunspell
Please note that this bug report is 7 years old. Since then Ubuntu has switched from OO to LO. The sync of the current libreoffice-dictionaries version in Debian will be considered a fix of this bug. I can't tell if there is a particular mechanism in place to handle the possible conflict you mention. I imagine that if you for example download hunspell-gd from the LO site, you'd better uninstall the hunspell-gd package before installing the other spellchecker. To the extent this is an issue, it's not a new issue triggered by the fix of this bug. In general, the Ubuntu distribution can't take responsibility for software which users download from external sites. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to openoffice.org- dictionaries in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/268953 Title: [needs-packaging] provide all dictionaries available for hunspell Status in language-selector package in Ubuntu: New Status in libreoffice-dictionaries package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in openoffice.org-dictionaries package in Ubuntu: Won't Fix Bug description: They are all available here: http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Dictionaries Ubuntu only provides a few. [Touch-packages] [Bug 268953] Re: [needs-packaging] provide all dictionaries available for hunspell
The bug description makes reference only to the OO extension site. But either way, whether we're talking LO or OO extention repos, the scenario remains that there may be more than one checker. I may be misreading the bug slightly but it sounds like the idea is to provide the maximum number of hunspell dictionaries possible - which means we can't just rely on those which LO or OO bundle because not all spellcheckers are bundled with LO/OO, some devs prefer to just host them on the extension site and (presumably because it's easier to maintain) the version on the extension sites are often newer than those bundled with the product. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1506988] [NEW] Update ofono.override plugin excludes ( -P ) for bluez5
Public bug reported: The ofono upstart override file includes an updated exec line for ofono with a different set of plugins excluded vs. the upstart job shipped as part of the ofono package. The '-P' argument is a comma-separated list of plugins to exclude at startup. ofono internally uses g_pattern_match_simple to process this list, which means the patterns are glob-style, and support the wildcard '*' and '?' characters per https://developer.gnome.org/glib/2.28/glib-Glob-style-pattern- matching.html The upstart job shipped in the archive's ofono package specifies a single plugin to exclude, 'ril', which is the device plugin used on touch devices only. Note, this job should also probably exclude the 'rildev' plugin as well. As such, we probably should change the upstart job to specify "-P ril*". The current excludes list in the overlay PPA is: -P stktest, provision, sap, udev, dun, smart, hfp 'stktest' can be removed as it's only included in the builtin_modules list if ofono is built with MAINTAINER_MODE defined. 'dun' can be removed as there's no plugin with that name. Note, for bluez5, we've added "dun_gw_bluez5" to the list. We should just combine the two and specify "dun*". 'sap' ( SIM Access Profile ) can be removed when we land bluez5, as it's only defined if ofono is built against bluez4. 'smart' isn't doing anything by itself, as the plugin is really named "smart_messaging". 'udev' only prevents the original udev plugin from loading, it doesn't prevent udevng from being loaded. This should probably be changed to "udev*" to prevent problems on a device where a collision might occur between the udev plugins and the rildev plugin. So, the recommended command line once we land bluez5 should be: exec ofonod -P provision,udev*,dun*,smart*,hfp_bluez5 ** Affects: canonical-devices-system-image Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: lxc-android-config (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Simon Fels (morphis) Status: Confirmed ** Affects: lxc-android-config (Ubuntu RTM) Importance: High Assignee: Simon Fels (morphis) Status: Confirmed ** Tags: bluez5 ** Changed in: lxc-android-config (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: lxc-android-config (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: lxc-android-config (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Simon Fels (morphis) ** Also affects: lxc-android-config (Ubuntu RTM) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: lxc-android-config (Ubuntu RTM) Status: New => Confirmed ** Changed in: lxc-android-config (Ubuntu RTM) Importance: Undecided => High ** Changed in: lxc-android-config (Ubuntu RTM) Assignee: (unassigned) => Simon Fels (morphis) ** Tags added: bluez5 ** Also affects: canonical-devices-system-image Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Summary changed: - Update ofono.override plugin excludes ( -P ) + Update ofono.override plugin excludes ( -P ) for bluez5 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to lxc-android-config in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1506988 Title: Update ofono.override plugin excludes ( -P ) for bluez5 Status in Canonical System Image: New Status in lxc-android-config package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in lxc-android-config package in Ubuntu RTM: Confirmed Bug description: The ofono upstart override file includes an updated exec line for ofono with a different set of plugins excluded vs. the upstart job shipped as part of the ofono package. This happens with BlueZ 4.x and 5.x and is related to how we handle the audio routing setup currently. The telepathy-ofono service currently switches the different ports, sinks, sources and profiles of our PulseAudio elements to enable everything needed to do a voicecall and to switch things back correctly once the voicecall is done. The issue described above is the result of either a incorrect sequence of enabling/disbling things or bound to timing issues when the switching is done. We need to do some more analysis on the routing in PulseAudio and how telepathy-ofono does things. [Touch-packages] [Bug 268953] Re: [needs-packaging] provide all dictionaries available for hunspell
How are we going to handle locales for which there is more than one? For example, for gd, there's a smaller, unmaintained one and a bigger, maintained one.
