[dialer-app] + [messaging-app] remove pop up asking to select a SIM

Status in Ubuntu UX:
  Fix Committed
Status in dialer-app package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in messaging-app package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  krillin vivid and RTM

Current behaviour: If the device has both SIM slots occupied, users
are asked on action to select a SIM card for either placing a phone
call or sending a text message. This can be very annoying for users
because on first time launch there is a different pop up asking a
similar question and explaining to users where to amend their default
  SIM for outgoing communication.

  --UX comment--

The desired solution is to change the text of the popup on first time launch
and remove the popup on action.
A 3rd popup appears on the dialer app after user made a phone call and didn't
select a default SIM. This should be removed as well.
The SIM card in the first SIM slot should be selected by default and the
first popup will inform users where to alter the selection and change the
default SIM for outgoing communication.

Please follow guidance in this spec:

to play movies (local and from web (like YouTube)) directly from them. Example
- I want to see some trailer of new movie from Film scope. I click and it
launch web browser - and that's the part that makes me sad. Better would be to
see movie from scope; if I need more information - I will click to open web
browser and get info about it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1442105] Re: GPS not working on my BQ Ubuntu Touch

2015-11-23 Thread ockels
Still a completely unusable GPS ubuntu system on the BQ Aquaris 4.5
here 15.04 (OTA-8) updated 23-11-2015 bought in the second flash sale.
A GPS only fix can hardly be found. WLAN and/or celldata does help a bit
to 'guess' the location. But it's never accurate or fast enough to be
usable. I thought maybe my phone was broken so i tried flashing the
phone with android firmware from BQ and a GPS-fix was found whithin 3
minutes. Of course i flashed it back to ubuntu, but the this bug is
present since the beginning and i'm still hoping this annoying issue
will be fixed with a high priority.

Status in ubuntu-themes package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
GTK+ Places Sidebar in 3.18.x uses GtkLIst Box which is used for
Nautilus too. As shown in the screenshot
(http://i.imgur.com/ic4Xu3B.png) there is no space between the icon
and the text on the Nautilus sidebar.

This can be resolved by adding following code to gtk-widgets.css :

  .sidebar-icon {
  padding-left: 10px;
  padding-right: 10px;
  }

It is great that used has option to reply immediately, without unlocking the
device, but it is not possible to know, which SIM card to use to reply back.

   UX comment ---

Please find attached to this bug a design solution which shows two solutions
for the here described issue.
  A. Places the [SIM name] in the place of a time stamp (recommended).
  B. Adds [SIM name] after the header of the notification.

Solution B may be applied if solution A can not be implemented for the
  time being.

The label of the SIM card should always represent the label users set,
even if they renamed the sim cards.

caller alongside caller ID.
  I see only caller ID.

It may be useful if one of the SIM cards is in roaming, or when one of

The SIM card indication should replace the "Incoming call" text. This
applies only for dual SIM devices. On a single SIM device the
"Incoming call" labe remains. Please see attached wireframe for the

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1519083] [NEW] Left mouse bottom stops working

2015-11-23 Thread path
Public bug reported:

At times the left mouse events stop working. After a short moment the
left mouse button starts working again. I'm using a Bluetooth mouse that
connects to a dongle in a usb port.

I was looking at the mouse events in three different test. As it turns out the
mouse events stop showing up in all of these cases.
xinput --test %id%
sudo cat /dev/input/mouse0
watch -d -n 0.1 cat /proc/interrupts

It's hard to spot when the interrupts stop showing up. You'll need to
align and overlap the terminals closely and keep clicking until it
occurs. If more people can reproduce this test. Then I figure it could
be a kernal bug.

Test case: Spawn a container and check /proc/self/environ
Regression potential: Worst case scenario is we stamp on a different part of

not to be the case though, change comes from upstream.

I have a script using the Python3 LXC API that starts up a container. If I
use an Upstart job to call the script, the $PATH env var is getting clobbered
and the container fails to start.

  DESCRIPTION:
I've been trying to track down the cause of the occasional UI freezes on my
Krillin device, and I noticed that whenever the UI freezes for 2-4 seconds, I
get a burst of "PropertiesChanged" signals in dbus-monitor

  Here's a log of what's shown in dbus-monitor:
  http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/11992322/

I'd guess the problem is in the code that actually catches the signals
  and acts accordingly.

  HOW TO REPRODUCE:
  1) Move to a place where many wifi hotspots are available
  2) Connect the device via USB and run "phablet-shell" and then "dbus-monitor"
  3) Use the device while keeping an eye on dbus-monitor output

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Currently LightDM connects to an XDMCP enabled X server using the first
suitable address in the XDMCP Request packet. However, some clients may put a
number of addresses in this message and potentially they are not all routable.
If the address the request message came from is in the list we should use that
first as that is more likely to be a routable address. This also matches the
behaviour of GDM which ignores the contents of the Request packet anyway.

  [Test Case]
  1. Start LightDM with XDMCP enabled
  2. Connect with a client that puts a number of addresses in the Request packet

  Expected result:
LightDM prefers the address the Request came from over the other addresses.

  Observed result:
LightDM always picks the first address.

  [Regression Potential]
There is a possibility of a behaviour change in existing clients that had two
valid addresses, though the particular address shouldn't matter (unless complex
firewalling / routing rules are being used). There is a risk that XDMCP
behaviour could have been broken by the change (tested with regression tests).

A dialog doesn't scroll if the text (as in the code example) or its
  contents exceeds the viewport size.

This can be reproduced in e.g. ubuntu-system-settings:
(Make sure you're running the very latest from proposed or a USS from October
2014 – debs[1]).

  1. Open Ubuntu System Settings
  2. Go to the Wi-Fi panel
  3. Click "Connect to hidden network…"
  4. Choose any security scheme other that "None"
  4. Resize the viewport/use landscape on a device

  What I expect to happen:
I can scroll inside the Dialog to access all fields and buttons

  What happened instead:
The content not visible becomes inaccessible

  Example code:
  http://paste.ubuntu.com/8479468/

  [1] https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-system-settings/+packages

  UX Solution:
Make sure content can scroll vertically if exceeding the maximum height of
the dialog

the mouse events stop showing up in all of these cases.
  xinput --test %id%
  sudo cat /dev/input/mouse0
  watch -d -n 0.1 cat /proc/interrupts

It's hard to spot when the interrupts stop showing up. You'll need to
align and overlap the terminals closely and keep clicking until it
occurs. If more people can reproduce this test. Then I figure it could
  be a kernal bug.

The headphones are not detected if they are plugged in before the system
starts up. To get sound out of my headphones, I need to unplug the
headphones and plug them back in again. After this, sound is sent to the
  headphones.

  Reproducible: always

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Plug in headphones
  2. Switch on computer, log into Kubuntu
  3. Attempt to play sound in any application, no sound produced.
  4. Unplug and replug headphones
  5. Sound works

  Expected behaviour:
At step 3, sound should be output through the headphones.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1488148] Re: windowed mode right edge spread selection needs animation

2015-11-23 Thread Vesa Rautiainen
I reconsidered this use case and undrstood that the switch from the
switcher to the desktop is a bit abrupt. We want to keep the transition
snappy so that it wound't start to annoy the user in the long run. I
created a prototype of it and with a little bit animation it feels much
better and smoother. In addition now the switch is in line with what
happens on the phone switcher at the moment.

** Description changed:

when in windowed mode, invoke right edge spread (through swipe or mouse
pressure)
currently selecting an application in the spread is a hard feeling switch to
the focus on the application
+
+ -Desired design-
+ The angled and cropped spread item that is selected by the user should
animate from its spread position to its windows actual place and size in the
normal desktop mode.
+
+ Selection animation behaviour and parameters:
+ - When one of the items is clicked the other items hide immediately. Also
workspaces
+ - The black overlay (between the task switcher content and desktop) opacity
animation to 0
+ - The spread item cropping container grows to original window size during the
animation
+ - Angle changes back to 0 during the animation
+ - Background blur animates to 0 during the animation.
+ - Animation duration: FastDuration (for the item that's focused)
+ - Use UbuntuAnimation.StandardEasing

   1) from the drawer menu, open the history view
   2) scroll it down slightly to ensure that an entry for a domain name is at
the top of the screen/window
   3) tap/click any entry in the list to open the expanded view for that domain
   4) in the expanded view, tap/click on the header (left of the "Less" button)

  Expected result: nothing happens

Current result: a new expanded view opens for the entry that was at
the top of the history view, because tap/click events go through the

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Some PAM modules produce output of more than 1 line (e.g.
PAM_TEXT_INFO may contain newlines in the message content). Polkit
authentication agent is prepared to receive only single-line messages
so it treats each line as a separate message. It fails to recognize
the type of message for all of them except the first - hence failed
authorization even if it was successful on the PAM-level.

   * The PAM specification does not require the modules to send only
single-line messages. Thus, polkit needs to be fixed.

  * The helper component should escape (g_strescape) all messages before
sending it up to the authentication agent. This way everything will be
read as a single line and then unescaped to restore it's formatting
with no changes required in PAM modules.

  [Test Case]

   * Use a pam module that returns a multi-line PAM_TEXT_INFO message on
successful authentication (may require to artificially modify a pam
  module).

   * Perform a polkit authorization with e.g. pkexec ls

   * Correct authorization should end with a failure with an
  unrecognized PAM message

  [Regression Potential]

   * Fix makes advantage of the fact that polkit authentication agent
already un-escapess (g_strcompress) all input from the helper
  component.

  * Fix is a backport of an upstream change.

  [Other Info]

   * Original bug description:

There is an error observed when Ubuntu is configured to perform
authentication via pam_vas (Vintela Authentication Services by Dell)
in a disconnected mode (using cached authentication).

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Configure pam_vas client authenticating to a remote server.
  2. Perform authentication to cache the credentials.
  3. Disconnect from the network where the server is reachable (to force using
cached information).
  4. Perform an action requiring polkit authentication.

  Expected result:
Authentication succeeds accompanied by the following message "You have logged
in using cached account information. Some network services will be
unavailable".

  Actual result:
Authentication fails accompanied by the following message "You have logged in
using cached account information. Some network services will be unavailable".

  Probable cause:
The PolkitAgentSession part of polkit is designed to interpret only 1-line
output, while interaction with pam_vas in the above scenario triggers helper to
produce the following 2-line output:
PAM_TEXT_INFO You have logged in using cached account information. Some
network services
  will be unavailable.

The 'will be unavailable.' part is interpreted as an unknown message
  and causes failed authorization.

Great,
I had similar problem a while ago. Now that I wanted to upgrade it was
bothering me with most of my PPAs.
Fortunately that solved my problem. I tried methods from here
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2257304 but nothing worked...

Not it is fully repaired.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1460301] Re: [Dialer] Incoming call - no info which SIM card was called (dual SIM)

2015-11-23 Thread Olga Kemmet
@tiagosh: Yes, I am aware of that. :)
One other solution I thought about was to remove "Incoming call" and simply
replace it with "SIM1" or whatever label user is choosing. This would only
apply to dual SIM devices though. For a single SIM device the initial "Incoming
call" text should remain on the incoming call snap.

  Ubuntu 14.10 (r22)

(Don't know how to find a package version :/, but I checked for
updates on 29-05-2015 and all apps are up to date)

I have two SIM cards inserted into BQ Aquaris 4.5

On incoming call I expect to see information if SIM1 or SIM2 was dialled by
caller alongside caller ID.
  I see only caller ID.

It may be useful if one of the SIM cards is in roaming, or when one of
the SIMs is a company number while other is a private number.

   UX comment ---

The SIM card indication should replace the "Incoming call" text. This
applies only for dual SIM devices. On a single SIM device the
"Incoming call" labe remains. Please see attached wireframe for the
  exact solution.

Daniel uploaded the SRUs already. I'm committing the fix to Debian so

  [Test Case]

   * Use a pam module that returns a multi-line PAM_TEXT_INFO message on
successful authentication (may require to artificially modify a pam

   * Original bug description:

Probably PulseAudio's routing system needs to be rewritten to be more

Great,
I had similar problem a while ago. Now that I wanted to upgrade it was

Fortunately that solved my problem. I tried methods from here

Not it is fully repaired.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1518931] [NEW] Camera & microphone list uses device id instead of display name

2015-11-23 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Public bug reported:

On a phone, go to settings > privacy & permissions > camera & microphone.
Under the microphone section, there is a drop-down list that lists the
available audio capture devices.
On krillin and arale, the list is as follows:
 - default
 - source.primary
 - source.fake.sco

This is not user friendly. We could use the device display names instead,
which, while not great either, is already more user-friendly:
 - default: "" (empty string, could use i18n.tr("Default"))
 - source.primary: "Droid source primary"
 - source.fake.sco: "Null Input"

I Googled "libvpx illegal instruction" and discovered this bug report -
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/ticket/3370 - detailing **exactly the same
crash**. (It's where I got the gdb command from, actually.)

It wasn't an ffmpeg bug though, it's a WebM bug, and the problem was
dutifully pushed upstream to
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/webm/issues/detail?id=702 ...where it was
apparently fixed.

It would seem Ubuntu's version of this package does not include this
fix.

In my own case, Xpra will compile fine without WebM support and use H264
encoding instead, which actually seems to use less CPU, and is Xpra's
default anyway. I'm reporting this issue primarily for the benefit of
others.

For reference, some of my /proc/cpuinfo:

vendor_id : GenuineIntel
cpu family : 6
model : 23
model name : Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5200 @ 2.50GHz

...

The full crashdump/basic gdb analysis is attached. It also includes full
/proc/cpuinfo at the end.

On incoming call I expect to see information if SIM1 or SIM2 was dialled by
caller alongside caller ID.
  I see only caller ID.

It may be useful if one of the SIM cards is in roaming, or when one of
the SIMs is a company number while other is a private number.

   UX comment ---

- The SIM card indication should be next to the text stating "Incoming
- call". Please see attached wireframe for the exact solution.
+ The SIM card indication should replace the "Incoming call" text. This
+ applies only for dual SIM devices. On a single SIM device the "Incoming

noticed after an update to 15.10 that we're suddenly not able to link
our OSL libs after building any more. After a long and tedious error
analysis we think that we found the issue - an ABI incompatibility
caused by libllvm depending on gcc 4.9 - and not on gcc 5.2 like on
newest debian.

Could you have a look at this? If you need direct help (maybe to have a
remote access to a 15.10 ubuntu) to investigate the issue just come to
#blendercoders and ask me (plasmasolutions) there.

Many greetings,
Thomas

Sorry for not getting back to you earlier. I haven’t made the switch to
xenial on my desktop machine yet, so I can’t really investigate further
for now.

Could you check with a simple QML WebView if sound plays? You can save
the following example as a qml file, and open it with qmlscene:

import QtQuick 2.4
import com.canonical.Oxide 1.9
WebView {
width: 800
height: 600
url: "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ;

  [Test Case]

   * Use a pam module that returns a multi-line PAM_TEXT_INFO message on
successful authentication (may require to artificially modify a pam

   * Original bug description:

The fact that the shutter sound when taking a camera picture is in the
abstraction layer, forces that sound to be played every time a shot is
taken with the QML Camera component.

This means app developers cannot disable or override the shutter sound
in their apps. One use case for this I encountered was while writing a
QR code application that continuously takes shots and analyzes the
image to scan a QR code. The fact that the shutter sound is played
continuously prevents me from being able to use the QML camera
  component.

dpm: the sound file itself is available in the android system
partition, and used by the app, let me find the code

qtubuntu-camera-0.3.3+13.10.20130919.2/src/aalimagecapturecontrol.cpp

m_audioPlayer->setMedia(QUrl::fromLocalFile("/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg"));

So after a conversation with rsalveti and jhodapp it seems that the
shutter sound is only required by the camera app, but for some reason
rather than put it in the camera app itself, it was added to the
abstraction layer. Their suggestion was to file a bug to remove the
sound from the abstraction layer and put it in the app, so that app
developers can use the upstream QML component and be able to decide
whether to play a sound and which one.

it looks?

I think this should be tied to the system theme like done in GTK+

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1472755] Re: corrupted double-linked list probably cause by telegram scope

2015-11-23 Thread Michał Karnicki
Since Jean-Baptiste raised this affects Telegram 2.0.4.* as well,
perhaps we could get some fellow developers to review the code, as it
seems we're out of luck trying to address this, and it's not really much
code in the query.cpp

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~libqtelegram-team/telegram-
app/telegram/files/head:/telegram/scope/

Either I'm doing something wrong, or the problem is not within Telegram.

there is no general reproducer for arbitrary systems.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1511015] Re: [pocket pc] No option to keep app launcher visible

2015-11-23 Thread Vesa Rautiainen
My proposal is to add a setting in the systems settings for this. As I
don't know exactly what is the design direction with window-mode
specific settings I'll move this but to mpt to comment.

Title:
windowed mode right edge spread selection needs animation

Status in Ubuntu UX:
  Fix Committed
Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
when in windowed mode, invoke right edge spread (through swipe or mouse
pressure)
currently selecting an application in the spread is a hard feeling switch to
the focus on the application

  -Desired design-
The angled and cropped spread item that is selected by the user should
animate from its spread position to its windows actual place and size in the
normal desktop mode.

  Selection animation behaviour and parameters:
  - When one of the items is clicked the other items hide immediately. Also
workspaces
  - The black overlay (between the task switcher content and desktop) opacity
animation to 0
  - The spread item cropping container grows to original window size during the
animation
  - Angle changes back to 0 during the animation
  - Background blur animates to 0 during the animation.
  - Animation duration: FastDuration (for the item that's focused)
  - Use UbuntuAnimation.StandardEasing
