Since I upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04 this printer has not worked well.
Sometimes it prints after repeatedly pressing the paper feed button. I often
get the error message: "missing print filter". I have had the printer for
approx. 10 years, and it worked well before 14.04.

I have tested on a windows 7 laptop and on a mac. Both work well.

Conclusion: printer is working. Someting has happened to cups or the
cups driver for this printer.

I have tried the Open Printing user forum and only gotten a report from
someone with the same problem

I attach the error log (/var/log/cups/error_log)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1512608] Re: No thumbnails generated for OGG audio

2015-12-27 Thread Michi Henning
The Bad Request response issue is definitely fixed by the linked branch.
I'm seeing much more robust behavior now.

We still have an issue with the error back-off being too aggressive when
an individual request to the server times out. I'll work on that and try
to get this into OTA-9. We have a separate bug for that problem:

Bug description:
  Setup:
Core Music app
BQ HD5
OTA-7 15.04 r6
Large collection of audio files in .ogg and .mp3 format on SD card
Audio files tagged with Artist, Album titile, Track title etc.

  Expected result:
Album covers and Artist images are displayed in Music app

  Actual result:
Only mp3 audio files generate thumbnails. No Album of Artist thumbnails are
generated for any OGG files

To test the situation I have
  a) Cleared the thumbnailer failure cache
  b) removed the whole thumbnail cache directory
  c) Removed and reinsterted the SD card
  d) Uninstallled and reinstalled the core Music app

Before the OTA-7 upgrade the thumbnails were shown for .ogg and .mp3
  files

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529452] Re: Gallery app asks for same image multiple times at different sizes

2015-12-27 Thread Michi Henning
This is really serious. I'm seeing around a dozen requests for each
image (each request at a different size) when scrolling in the event
view. I'm also seeing crashes. One way to reproduce seems to be to
scroll all the way to the end of the event view and then scroll in the
other direction. As soon as I try to go backwards from the end, I get a
crash.

Bug description:
I'm seeing this with image 342 from rc-proposed.

When starting the gallery app with around 300 photos in my Pictures
folder, I just noticed the request sequence shown below. Note that all
requests are for the same image and are issued pretty much all at
once. (There is about half a second elapsed time between the first and
the last request.) The requests keep changing the size only, starting
at 342 and working their way down to 216. This is supremely
inefficient because each of the requests results in a separate scaling
operation. In addition, each of these requests ends up in the cache on
disk, so this behavior really hammers the battery and reduces cache
  efficiency.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1440608] Re: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal wants to remove all kernels except the latest one

2015-12-27 Thread Jarno Suni
To make sure current kernel is not autoremoved, /etc/kernel/postinst.d
/apt-auto-removal should be run during startup, that is before running
"apt-get autoremove" during uptime.

Title:
/etc/kernel/postinst.d/apt-auto-removal wants to remove all kernels
  except the latest one

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After installing a 3rd kernel currently 3.19.0-12-generic, the
/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove-kernels file looks normal listing the
  3.19.0-11-generic and 3.19.0-12-generic with 3.19.0-10-generic listed
to be autoremoved. But once autoremove is completed the machine
requests to be rebooted and at that time the /etc/apt/apt.conf.d
/01autoremove-kernels file lists the 3.19.0-12-generic and
3.19.0-10-generic kernels. So upon rebooting the 3.19.0-11-generic is
requested to be autoremoved leaving only one kernel the latest one
  3.19.0-12-generic.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1515091] Re: Thumbnail of photo/video displays incorrect size in preview page

2015-12-27 Thread Michi Henning
Here is what I see in the thumbnailer log when I tap on a single image
in the photo roll:

Note that, even though I asked to see one image, the app issues requests
for two images. As far as I can see, it should ask only for the image I
want to see?

For each image, there are two requests, one for 768, and one for 2304.
There should be only one request.

Asking for the image at 2304 is meaningless, in the sense that the
thumbnailer won't deliver anything larger than 1920. It doesn't do any
harm as such, the actual image that is returned will be scaled to 1920.
But the image that is shown is too large and displaces the "Open button"
near the bottom, so I can see the button only once is scroll. The
preview image should be displayed at a size that doesn't push the rest
of the card off the screen.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529452] [NEW] Gallery app asks for same image multiple times at different sizes

2015-12-27 Thread Michi Henning
Public bug reported:

I'm seeing this with image 342 from rc-proposed.

When starting the gallery app with around 300 photos in my Pictures
folder, I just noticed the request sequence shown below. Note that all
requests are for the same image and are issued pretty much all at once.
(There is about half a second elapsed time between the first and the
last request.) The requests keep changing the size only, starting at 342
and working their way down to 216. This is supremely inefficient because
each of the requests results in a separate scaling operation. In
addition, each of these requests ends up in the cache on disk, so this
behavior really hammers the battery and reduces cache efficiency.

Unfortunately this means we never get any hits from the QML image

Instead it should use a value for the "at" parameter that only changes

System freeze on switching to wireless network

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Description:Ubuntu 15.04
  Release:15.04

This is a HP ProBook 6570b notebook.
It freezes after logging in when connecting to WLAN.
Occurs only when static IP configured.
  Doesn't occur when network-manager disabled (/etc/network/interfaces used)

  Reproduce:

  1. Configure WLAN static IP, DNS
  2. Reboot
  3. After login, (after the "you are connected to aa wifi network" message
disappears) the system freeze

  Another case:

  1. Login with WLAN disabled by hardware switch
  2. Connect to ethernet network
  3. Configure WLAN static IP, DNS
  4. Turn on WLAN and connect to a network
  5. Now the system wont freeze as the primary network connection is the
ethernet
  6. Unplug the ethernet cable
  7. Some seconds later the system freeze

  Workaround:

  Turn off WLAN before login

  or

Turn off WLAN before unplug cable
  Then turn it on

After resuming from a suspend, sometimes(very often) the wifi does not show
any connections.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529499] [NEW] Allow fast switching between timezones

2015-12-27 Thread Kai Mast
Public bug reported:

In the control center i can add multiple timezones. Whenever I move
around i need to set the new timezone manually. It would be so cool if I
could just switch between my preconfigured locations.

This would also prevent things like #87

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1517625] Re: Typo in hooks/biosdevname

I see the same thing in the file but this is a quite simple fix with a
text editor that is easily accomplished if you can say write your own
udev rules.

Bug description:
  In /usr/share/initramfs-tools/hooks/biosdevname, the line:

  cp -p /etc/udev/rules.d/$RUlES $DESTDIR/lib/udev/rules.d/

the variable $RUlES needs to be changed to $RULES (capital "L", not
  lower case).

Currently, update-initramfs will fail if you have a custom
  /etc/udev/rules.d/71-biosdevname.rules file.

This is in Ubuntu Server 14.04.3 LTS.

Scaling factors for HiDPI on multiple monitors

Status in gnome-control-center:

Status in gnome-control-center package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hello,

a bug report for my problem was suggested here:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/274062
I also created a question at askubuntu:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/614301/how-to-set-different-scaling-on-multiple-monitors

I'm trying to use an external monitor on my HiDPI Dell XPS 13 9343. It
has a resolution of 3200x1800. The monitor I'm trying to connect has a
resolution of 2560x1440 (or 1920x1080). When using the notebook alone
I need to use a scaling factor of 1,75 due to the high resolution. The
problem occurs when changing the scaling factor for the external
monitor, which is too high with 1,75.

As the GUI settings describe, it is possible to set different scaling
factors for different monitors. Unfortunately the settings always take
effect on all monitors. For example:

  Scaling factor: 1
  Monitor 3200x1800: everything too small
  Monitor: 2560x1440: everything good

  Scaling factor 1,75: vice versa

In the question on askubuntu (see above) you can see how the gsettings
are changed when altering the scaling factor. It seems like it is not
possible to set the value separately for each monitor.

I would be grateful if you can check that. I hope all necessary
information are included in the bug report. If not, please describe
  how I can help.

  Regards,
  lum3n

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1309535] Re: Running without pam-kwallet installed issues a warning in auth.log

2015-12-27 Thread Jeff Silverman
I have seen the same thing in 15.04.Looking further, I see that the
entire /lib/security directory is missing. So I'm a little curious as
to what else is gone.

Funny thing is that it was working. I don't know what precipitated the
problem.

j. rose filed this bug as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/1511824. Thank
you, j. rose.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1526999] Re: cups is intolerant to TLS 1.2

2015-12-27 Thread Laine Gholson
Aha! I think it is that for some weird reason, a SHA-384 certificate may
be the cause of this problem. I changed my server certificate to SHA-1
and TLS 1.2 works again. (and CUPS uses GnuTLS, so my OpenSSL cannot be
the problem)

Bug description:
CUPS 1.7.2-0ubuntu1.7 on Ubuntu Trusty has a security problem where
connections using TLS 1.2 will fail, forcing a TLS 1.1 retry

  === How to reproduce
  1. Connect to the cups server with HTTPS
  2. Check the security info

  or

  1. openssl s_client -connect localhost:631
  2. See the error
  3. openssl s_client -tls1_1 -connect localhost:631
  4. See no error

TLS 1.1 is not the newest protocol version, and therefore this can be
  considered a security issue.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1526999] Re: cups is intolerant to TLS 1.2

Title:
cups is intolerant to TLS 1.2

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
CUPS 1.7.2-0ubuntu1.7 on Ubuntu Trusty has a security problem where
connections using TLS 1.2 will fail, forcing a TLS 1.1 retry

  === How to reproduce
  1. Connect to the cups server with HTTPS
  2. Check the security info

  or

  1. openssl s_client -connect localhost:631
  2. See the error
  3. openssl s_client -tls1_1 -connect localhost:631
  4. See no error

TLS 1.1 is not the newest protocol version, and therefore this can be
  considered a security issue.

  Error back-off too aggressive

Status in thumbnailer package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
It looks like requests to the remote server time out more often than
we care to admit. When that happens, we treat the failure as a
temporary and surprising error and disable remote server access for
  two hours.

We need something more sophisticated so we can react to timeout errors
with a different strategy than to other temporary surprising errors.
The problem is that a dead server is indistinguishable from a slow
one, so we probably need some exponential back-off strategy, or count
the number of consecutive timeout failures and trigger the full two-
hour back-off only if some threshold is exceeded.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: mawk

Mawk does not support Posix character classes, such as [:upper:] and
[:lower:], in regular expressions. This makes it more difficult to
write portable Awk scripts (since [A-Z] match lower-case characters in
  Gawk using non-English locales)

  E.G.:

  $ echo x | mawk '/[[:lower:]]/'
  $ echo x | gawk '/[[:lower:]]/'
  x

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529462] [NEW] Access to source folder in Recently used

2015-12-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Dear all,

This bug report is in direct reference to the conversation at
bugzilla.gnome.org [1].

There I was told that the GTK File Chooser dialog has a function under
"Recently Used" to directly access the source folder.

However, in Ubuntu 15.10 I cannot find this option.

Is this function not available yet because Ubuntu 15.10 uses a different
version of GTK?

Is this function thus something that will be available in future Ubuntu
releases?

Thankfully,

~ Robert

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529557] [NEW] lighttdm and autofs template rules

2015-12-27 Thread Emmanuel
Public bug reported:

For some unknown reason, lightdm do not accept login when autofs is
configured that way :

nas.home.autofs : /home /etc/auto.master.d/nas.home.folders
--ghost,--timeout=600
nas.home.folders : *
-fstype=cifs,uid=&,gid=&,file_mode=0640,dir_mode=0750,credentials=/etc/credentials.d/cre.&,iocharset=utf8
   ://192.168.0.100/home.&

but it works if mounted directory are manually specified :

nas.home.autofs : /home /etc/auto.master.d/nas.home.folders
--ghost,--timeout=600
nas.home.folders : My_account
-fstype=cifs,uid=My_account,gid=My_account,file_mode=0640,dir_mode=0750,credentials=/etc/credentials.d/cre.My_account,iocharset=utf8
://192.168.0.100/home.My_account

I suppose this is due to the fact that in the 1st method, home directory where
not created by autofs. It only create them when an attempt to access it is done.

Please help to define trace and logs to analyse the reason.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1529454] [NEW] dm-tool add-nested-seat fails

2015-12-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

On Wily, updated daily:

petter@odin:~$ ac policy lightdm
lightdm:
  Installed: 1.16.6-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1.16.6-0ubuntu1

petter@odin:~$ dm-tool add-nested-seat
Unable to add seat: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Failed: Failed to
start seat

I was hoping to get a nested X server with lightdm, but the Xephyr
windows briefly opens and then closes again. I have tried this on two
different installations of Wily with the same results. If I try to start
Xephyr manually and then start lightdm on it with 'dm-tool add-
local-x-seat' then dm-tool fails with exactly the same error message as
above.
