[Touch-packages] [Bug 1534964] Re: Hotplugging HDMI fails

2016-01-17 Thread Sami00Sami
Ok, I will do that. And thanks for helping me out with this.

In other hand, there isn't really a crash report, the bug is that
hotplugging HDMI cable isn't generating proper kernel events, thus
external monitor doesn't work properly (only via boot).

Only way its crashing is that via adapter linking. There is two way to
connecnt HDMI cable, via dedicated port and via adapter (usbc).

Should I create 2 different bug reports? First one handling this issue
(hotplugging HDMI cable) and other one 'HDMI via usbc adapter
hotplugging crashes X' ?

Title:
  Hotplugging HDMI fails

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Affected computer: Dell Precision 15 5000 Series (5510) with Quadro
  M1000M/PCIe/SSE2 graphics card (kernel 4.2.0-23-generic).

  Expected behaviour:

  - hotplugging HDMI cable would work

  Current behaviour:

  - Hotpluging doesn't work (no kernel events, used udevadm monitor to
  verify)

  Current observations:

  - HDMI output works if connected from the boot
  - When DPMS kicks in HDMI output disappears (tested with 2 different monitors)
  - Hotpluging doesn't work (no kernel events, used udevadm monitor to verify)
  - VGA (via usb-c adapter) works, hotplugging also
  - HDMI (via usb-c adapter) causes black screen in computer display and
eventually crashes X. Unplugging adapter before crash restores state (computer
display restored)
  - display port (via usb-c adapter) not confirmed

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1240198] Re: [SRU]Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop

Title:
[SRU]Wrong keyboard layout active after booting into desktop

Status in ibus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in ibus source package in Trusty:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [Impact]

When first boot into Unity desktop, English keyboard layout is active
while all other parts of the system language settings are set to
  another language (e.g. German).

The bug is properly addressed in newer upstream releases in Vivid, but
the changes is too intrusive and not suitable for being back ported in
SRU. And changing the default to use system keyboard layout solves the
  problem.

  [Test Case]

  1. Set the system language to something other than English, e.g. German.
  2. Create a new user, log in to the Unity desktop of the new user.
  3. Check the keyboard layout, it should be German instead of English.

  [Regression Potential]

Since this changes the default value of the keyboard layout settings
by using system defined as default, it avoids using ibus's built-in
keyboard layout related functionality, so that this could be a
regression for users rely on this certain behavior (e.g. use English
keyboard while want to keep the system language settings to German),
but such behavior is not expected for normal usage.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1534929] Re: [USB-Audio - USB PnP Sound Device, playback] volume slider problem: USB headset playback suddenly drops to inaudible when volume is set below a certain level

2016-01-17 Thread Alexander Klauer
When I do:

$ amixer -c1 cset iface=MIXER,name='Speaker Playback Volume',index=0 3
numid=6,iface=MIXER,name='Speaker Playback Volume'
  ; type=INTEGER,access=rw---R--,values=2,min=0,max=151,step=0
  : values=3,3
  | dBminmax-min=-28.37dB,max=-0.06dB

playback becomes inaudible. When I do:

$ amixer -c1 cset iface=MIXER,name='Speaker Playback Volume',index=0 4
numid=6,iface=MIXER,name='Speaker Playback Volume'
  ; type=INTEGER,access=rw---R--,values=2,min=0,max=151,step=0
  : values=4,4
  | dBminmax-min=-28.37dB,max=-0.06dB

playback becomes loudly audible again.

Is the pulseaudio attenuation something I can set up myself?

called "CSL Stormrider Wired Headset", playback becomes suddenly
inaudible when the volume slider in the unity sound preferences
(accessed via indicator → loudspeaker icon → sound settings) is set to
below circa 40 %. Setting to above ~40 % restores playback volume to
  what you would expect.

In alsamixer, the same problem occurs when going from volume level 02
to volume level 01. At alsamixer level 02, the volume is about what
you would expect when setting a volume slider to about 40 %.

This is annoying since 40 % can already be rather loud.

2016-01-17 Thread David V.
I have the same bug on Wily;

It was configured that way by the ubuntu installer. This machine was installed
with 15.04 then upgraded to 15.10.
The system's locale is French, in case it's relevant.

I think the interface name is why network-manager doesn't handle it.

So on the initial run, ping claims it got a ping reply from 10.0.0.95, which
isn't the address I'm pinging. It's my host, and it's normal to get the initial
ICMP "Destination Host Unreachable" messages from the local IP when ARP fails.
I almost immediately reran ping, and now the host was up from the start, and
see responses coming from the actual host that I'm pinging.

Looking at the times, the ping replies appear to actually come from
10.0.0.96, or at least some other remote host, based on the time
values. If I ping 10.0.0.95 (my own IP), I'm seeing time values of
0.040ms or thereabouts, so an order of magnitude faster.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1471230] Re: ping got confused about IP-adress after host unreachable

2016-01-17 Thread Vee Tornado
I was about to enter a new bug report, but came across yours Ketil. Have
same issue.

The reported source address from the ping reply is wrong when an
intermediary router sent an icmp-host-unreachable, after which the
destination host becomes reachable and starts replying.

In that case the reported source address is that from the intermediary
router (or the originating host itself) that sent the icmp-host-
unreachable, and not of the destination host that sent the icmp-echo-
reply, as it should be.

v@p8p67:~$ ping -n 172.31.168.107
PING 172.31.168.107 (172.31.168.107) 56(84) bytes of data.
>From 172.31.168.161 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
>From 172.31.168.161 icmp_seq=2 Destination Host Unreachable
>From 172.31.168.161 icmp_seq=3 Destination Host Unreachable
64 bytes from 172.31.168.161: icmp_seq=4 ttl=64 time=7.46 ms
64 bytes from 172.31.168.161: icmp_seq=5 ttl=64 time=3.26 ms
64 bytes from 172.31.168.161: icmp_seq=6 ttl=64 time=3.41 ms
...

Obviously the last three lines should start with 64 bytes from
172.31.168.107... and not .161.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1298668] Re: Numpad unusable on most applications

2016-01-17 Thread Nilfred
Finally found a solution:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/598099/numpad-buttons-going-weird

dconf reset /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/xkb-options

or

gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.input-sources xkb-options

The problem was:
dconf read /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/xkb-options
['keypad:future']
You can test the pain yourself with this command:
dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/xkb-options "['keypad:future']"
And then try to use the calculator.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1327610] Re: No valid active connection found and Unmanaged device found

2016-01-17 Thread Mélodie
Hi,

The IP of your machine maybe should not be 192.168.0.1, as it could be
conflicting with the one of your router. Can you type "sudo dhclient
em1" and give back the result? And if it connects your machine fine, can
you then type in "sudo route" and provide the result?

Besides that, what kind of machine is it? Tower or laptop? If a laptop,
do you use a workstation with it?

I don't think the language is relevant, but as I also use French in my
computers, I'll try to upgrade one to Wily and see if I also get
difficulties with the connection.

  Wifi:

Here is the problem: when I start the X session with wireless and
ethernet both enabled, the nm-applet does show in the panel; once I
  deactivate the wifi in nm-applet, it just disappears;

From there it does not reconnect to Ethernet (though the cable is
plugged in). If I reboot completely, once logged into X (I use
lightdm), the applet still doesn't show, however when I click on the
panel where it is supposed to be, I see the menus : left-click, right-
click : it is a ghost applet! Left click all entries except configure
vpn are grayed, right click lets me access to all entries, and
information about the connections states "Erreur lors de l'affichage
  des informations de connexion :

Aucune connexion valide active trouvée !" (Error while displaying
informations about connection : no valid active connection found!") and in
/var/log/syslog:

state CONNECTED forced. (see http://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191889)

(but #191889 is not the same as the one I am hitting here).

If I use dhclient eth0 as root it will (re)connect same if I reboot
  completely.

Thanks for fixing network-manager and it's applet!

If you need me to bring more log files, I'll be around.

  Regards,

I'm not involved in the development of gksu. Nor have I looked at GTK2
related code in ages.
So I'm definitely the wrong person to poke.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1534964] Re: Hotplugging HDMI fails

2016-01-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Sami00Sami:
>"In other hand, there isn't really a crash report"

Given all the crashes that have populated in your /var/crash (some not
reported yet), it would be most helpful to report those.

However, given that the nvidia drivers would be responsible for the
desired functionality, it would be best to re-test to this in Xenial via
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ to get ahead of new
functionality landing there.

If reproducible in it, please file a new report scoped to precisely that by
ensuring you have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information running the following
from a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Also, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

This will help keep the report free and clear of scope creep, and
confusion.

Thank you for your understanding.

  Expected behaviour:

  - hotplugging HDMI cable would work

  Current behaviour:

  - Hotpluging doesn't work (no kernel events, used udevadm monitor to

  Current observations:

  - HDMI output works if connected from the boot
  - When DPMS kicks in HDMI output disappears (tested with 2 different monitors)
  - Hotpluging doesn't work (no kernel events, used udevadm monitor to verify)
  - VGA (via usb-c adapter) works, hotplugging also
  - HDMI (via usb-c adapter) causes black screen in computer display and
eventually crashes X. Unplugging adapter before crash restores state (computer
display restored)
  - display port (via usb-c adapter) not confirmed

Title:
Workaround Ubuntu 15.10. Network manager applet cannot stably activate
mobile broadband using 4G USB modem ZTE MF820D.

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

I use Ubuntu 15.10, I have done a fresh install formerly using 14.04
  on the same hardware setup.

If I boot Ubuntu from power-off, then I must sometimes enter the PIN-
code for the mobile broadband SIM-card, I also get prompted for my
password (to make changes to the mobile broadband device); however,
most of the time only my password is needed, and the saved PIN-code is
  used.

After entering my password the 4G-USB-modem gets green light for
establishing an 4G (or 3G) connection, but it is impossible to connect
to the 4G-internet from the desktop drop down menu of network manager
at this stage; I get an error message: "(Translated from Swedish-
Activate connection failure) Creating object for path
  '/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/1' failed in libnm-
  glib."

(I have set up this 4G-internet-connention with help from the network-
manager wizard, using defaults, except turning off roaming and setting
  "allow all users to connect.")

However, if I choose to reboot without power-off, the green light on
the USB-modem stays on during the reboot (keeps 4G-connected I
presume), then it is possible to connect to internet from the drop
down menu, most of the time. Some times I also had to deactivate-
activate mobile broadband from the drop down menu before internet
  connection could be established.

It is also not possible to edit the connections of the mobile broadband in
the network manager applet; I get an error message: "(Translated from
Swedish-Error initiating editor) settings/nm-settings-connection.c.955 -
Connection didn't have requested setting 'ppp'".
Editing the wifi-connection works just fine.

  Regards

Title:
Touchscreen location incorrect after changing resolution using unity-
  control-center with dual-display setup

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have a touchscreen laptop with external display connected. Both
support maximum resolution of 4k (3840x2160). The laptop screen is on
the left, external display on the right.

After initial boot from daily xenial live cd 2016-01-17, both screens
are at the maximum resolution. When I touch the laptop screen, the
cursor correctly shows my touch position.

Using unity-control-center, when I set the resolution of the laptop
display to 1920x1080, the screen blanks momentarily and apport reports
that Ubuntu has experienced an internal error. The resolution reverts
to 3820x2160 on both screens. I try again and the screen resolution
changes properly. I submitted the report through apport several
minutes ago, but I don't know how to link it here and I'm not sure
  it's related.

After the resolution change, the laptop display on the left is
1920x1080 and the monitor display on the right is 3840x2160. Touches
on the left are scaled to the entire width of the desktop, rather than
  under my finger.

Reverting the resolution to 3840x2160 on both monitors through unity-
control-center, the touches are still scaled to the whole desktop. In
other words, touches on the right side of the laptop display register
  on the touchless monitor.

When I log out, the touches are correct on the login screen. When I
log back in as the ubuntu user with both resolutions at 3820x2160, the
  touch positions are correct.

2016-01-17 Thread christoph
*push*

this happens on the MacBook 6,1 (late 2009) as well. It has the same
Cirrus CS4206.

I just tested the most recent alsa-daily which builds for wily/amd64 without
effect. Internal Speakers, Internal Mic, Headphones all work - TRRS mic doesn't
work (Mac OS X supports exactly this Headset device out of the box).
I'm using 15.10 GNOME Ubuntu. In sound settings I can only activate the
internal mic and don't even see any external (as with output where the label of
the output device automatically changes if the headset is connected).

running alsa-info.sh (with headset connected) =>

Scolling and typing becomes painfully slow when an image is added in

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1535137] [NEW] Explanation bug in mkfs xfs Filesystem mkfs from util-linux 2.26.2

2016-01-17 Thread Stephan
Public bug reported:

mkfs from util-linux 2.26.2

during an exercise with creating xfs partitions on a Ubuntu 15.10 64 Bit
virtual machine,
I guess I found a bug.

Explanation:
When creating an xfs filesystem on a partition with a existing gpt table, the
mkfs command return an error message
with the advice to force the command to run by using the -f option (lowercase f)

However, it wont work and as you can see at my bash text, the command tells me
that -f (lowercase f) is an invalid option.
I read the manpages of mkfs to determine what should be the correct option.
Even here, the -f (lowercase f) is mentioned.

-f Force overwrite when an existing filesystem is detected on the
device. By default, mkfs.xfs will not write to the device if it
suspects that there is a filesystem or partition table on the device
already.

So I tried the uppercase F (-F) to FORCE the command to overwrite everything
which worked !
So there are 2 possibilities:
#1 I am to dump to use a -f properly
#2 The texts (man pages and stderr)are wrong written and should be replaced
with a uppercase F.

root@ubuntu:/mnt# mkfs -t xfs /dev/sdb2
mkfs.xfs: /dev/sdb2 appears to contain a partition table (gpt).
mkfs.xfs: Use the -f option to force overwrite.
root@ubuntu:/mnt# mkfs -tf xfs /dev/sdb2
mkfs: failed to execute mkfs.f: No such file or directory
root@ubuntu:/mnt# mkfs -t -f xfs /dev/sdb2
mkfs: failed to execute mkfs.-f: No such file or directory
root@ubuntu:/mnt# mkfs -f -t xfs /dev/sdb2
mkfs.ext2: invalid option -- 'f'

root@ubuntu:/mnt# mkfs -F -t xfs /dev/sdb2
mke2fs 1.42.12 (29-Aug-2014)
Found a gpt partition table in /dev/sdb2

Your mke2fs.conf file does not define the xfs filesystem type.
Creating filesystem with 512000 1k blocks and 128016 inodes
Filesystem UUID: 216b73d3-d57e-49b4-a288-b1a0ac9a5ce6

8193, 24577, 40961, 57345, 73729, 204801, 221185, 401409

Allocating group tables: done
Writing inode tables: done
Writing superblocks and filesystem accounting information: done

Please give a feedback if my observation is correct or wrong.

With best regards

Stephan H. Wenderlich

Even here, the -f (lowercase f) is mentioned.

-f Force overwrite when an existing filesystem is detected on
the device. By default, mkfs.xfs will not write to the device if it
suspects that there is a filesystem or partition table on the device
  already.

So I tried the uppercase F (-F) to FORCE the command to overwrite everything
which worked !
  So there are 2 possibilities:
#1 I am to dump to use a -f properly
#2 The texts (man pages and stderr)are wrong written and should be replaced
with a uppercase F.

  root@ubuntu:/mnt# mkfs -t xfs /dev/sdb2
mkfs.xfs: /dev/sdb2 appears to contain a partition table (gpt).
mkfs.xfs: Use the -f option to force overwrite.
  root@ubuntu:/mnt# mkfs -tf xfs /dev/sdb2
mkfs: failed to execute mkfs.f: No such file or directory
  root@ubuntu:/mnt# mkfs -t -f xfs /dev/sdb2
mkfs: failed to execute mkfs.-f: No such file or directory
  root@ubuntu:/mnt# mkfs -f -t xfs /dev/sdb2
  mkfs.ext2: invalid option -- 'f'

  root@ubuntu:/mnt# mkfs -F -t xfs /dev/sdb2
  mke2fs 1.42.12 (29-Aug-2014)
Found a gpt partition table in /dev/sdb2

Your mke2fs.conf file does not define the xfs filesystem type.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1531913] Re: Fallback image not shown when no image specified

2016-01-17 Thread Michi Henning
The intention was that a scope can specify a specific fallback image.
That image should be shown when the normal image load returns an error
or an empty image (zero-length ByteArray, or whatever type it is).

This allows the scope to specify a specific fallback image that might be
needed to keep style/theming for the scope. If the scope doesn't provide
a fallback image, or loading of the specified fallback image fails, the
shell can substitute some generic fallback image.

That was the thinking at the time we added this feature.

What's the problem with doc? If it isn't right, I'll fix it.

Bug description:
In fixing bug #1520631 in unity-scope-click, as the store server will
start allowing uploads with no icon specified, it was discovered that
Unity8 is not showing the fallback when we do not include the artwork.
Instead, it is only shown if we specify invalid artwork. This seems
wrong, and instead I would think the fallback would be displayed
whenever no other artwork is provided.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1535123] Re: Touchscreen location incorrect after changing resolution using unity-control-center with dual-display setup

2016-01-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
David, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

To clarify, does the crash happen after a change to any resolution, or
only after attempting to change it to 1920x1080?

Title:
Touchscreen location incorrect after changing resolution using unity-
  control-center with dual-display setup

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1533930] Re: Duplicate artist in artist view

2016-01-17 Thread Michi Henning
** Description changed:

With the song collection in the attached archive, I see duplicate artist
art. In the music scope, A-HA and 30 Seconds to Mars are shown twice.

I turns out that this is happening because of tagging errors. There are
- both "30 Seconds to Mars" and "30 Secocnds To Mars" tags present, as
- well as "A-HA" and "A-Ha".
+ both "30 Seconds to Mars" and "30 Seconds To Mars" tags present, as well
+ as "A-HA" and "A-Ha".

Brief experimentation with iTunes shows that iTunes is a little bit more
clever than we are here, in that it collapses artists that differ only
in capitalization into a single artist.

Should we be doing the same thing?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1535154] [NEW] [webapp-container] Overlay pages are remembered TOO well

2016-01-17 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

Recently, overlay pages started being remembered after an OOM. But it
seems that it rembers them too well, because I'm pretty sure I've seen
it restore my last overlay that I had already closed!

That is, I use a webapp. Open overlay page. Close overlay page. Do
something else. Come back to OOM webapp. It restarts with my closed
overlay open.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1533930] Re: Duplicate artist in artist view

Ignoring capitalization seems reasonable to me. This however should be
implemented by mediascanner2 and do not require any client-side logic.

With the song collection in the attached archive, I see duplicate
artist art. In the music scope, A-HA and 30 Seconds to Mars are shown
  twice.

I turns out that this is happening because of tagging errors. There
are both "30 Seconds to Mars" and "30 Seconds To Mars" tags present,
as well as "A-HA" and "A-Ha".

Brief experimentation with iTunes shows that iTunes is a little bit
more clever than we are here, in that it collapses artists that differ
only in capitalization into a single artist.

Should we be doing the same thing?

  4. Layout on the right is play in music app then the list of tracks
  5. Tap on a tracks play button

  EXPECTED:
I expect the layout to not jump and remove the play in music app button

  ACTUAL:
When you tap on the play button for a track to play it in the scope the whole
track list jumps. In portrait/phone mode it is more important to jump as on
the whole you can only see the first track, whoever in landscape mode you can
see most of the album listed so there is no need for it to jump up.

Bug description:
  Hi,

I had recently reported that the chromium-browser cause lots of
apparmor denial messages, thus filling the screen completely with
those ubuntu-specific black warning message tiles. See #1504049

Some people then turned this into a guest session problem and fixed
  the guest session problem with

  /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/lightdm_chromium-browser

but this file is included only in lightdm-guest-session and thus
  effective in guest sessions only.

  usr.bin.chromium-browser instead reads abstractions/ubuntu-browsers.d
/chromium-browser , which does not contain the bug fixes.

So the people fixed a different problem.

  fsck from util-linux 2.20.1
I can't get my ext4 24TB to fsck clean. there came a whole bunch of file stat
problems after a clean reboot.
I tried 3 times so far, and each does something like segfault. I looked
twice, and the errors were different,
but was able to capture one output. The system has 6GB ram, and it used up
all the memory. ended up adding 25GB
of swap as fsck seems to use up a huge amount of memory. After a long while,

I come back to see the fsck has crashed and file system is still not clean.

The reboot was clean and should not have caused any corruption. the

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1432236] Re: lid hinge 360 degree, touch pad is not disabled automatically

2016-01-17 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Su Heng, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-
support/product/inspiron-11-3147-laptop/drivers/advanced an update to
your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A09). If you
update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate
does it change anything?

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible:
1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an
apport-collect):
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement
or not.
3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. If it's not reproducible, please
mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

Christopher, I've booted up without the non-default kernel parameters
but I see no improvement.

thank you,

Title:
Scrolling takes 5 seconds holding down arrow key at 100% zoom

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
At 100% zoom, I count about 5 seconds to scroll from first to second
page by holding the arrow-down key. CPU is not occupied by any other
  program.

At 180% zoom, I count about 18 seconds to scroll from first to second
page by holding the arrow-down key.

  At 180% zoom, a two-pages text-only document takes less than 2 seconds
to scroll from first to second page by holding the arrow-down key.

It becomes faster (not much) when the same image covers a smaller
  area.

From settings, I've tried to maximize the graphics memory, and to
enable/disable hardware acceleration and antialiasing, but it doesn't
  help.

The problem persists in LibreOffice 4.3.5-rc2 from ubuntu PPA.
