Sometimes moving the mouse around frantically puts the screen temporarily to a state where it is again readable but then distorts again almost immediately. Opening other apps, or going to a terminal screen, and then back sometimes gets the display back to normal and I can get some work done. Highly annoying and very unproductive so have had to move other business machines back to 15.04 which did not display the problem. Maybe not related but sometimes the terminal (in a window) loses the mouse and seems the only way to recover is to restart the terminal. Also mousing over the Launch (Unity) menu bar sometimes leaves traces of the tooltips on the screen. Working in OpenOffice/LibreOffice - sometimes small bits of text are slightly garbled. Scrolling to move the affected text off the screen and then back on corrects the display. mike@GX520:~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 15.10 Release: 15.10 Probably the same issue as bug #1540001. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1270189] Re: Ubuntu Touch devices are using cellular DNS servers over wifi connection
For me its better now since last update. Transitions to/from WiFi seem to be nearly always successful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1270189 Title: Ubuntu Touch devices are using cellular DNS servers over wifi connection Status in Canonical System Image: Confirmed Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu RTM: New Bug description: On my Nexus 4, build 121 with TMobile, when I am on wifi, I correctly get a 192.168 ip and DNS entries for this network (on wlan0) -- fine. When I am in range of cellular data, I get an ip address from TMobile and am given DNS entries that aren't on the same network as the TMobile ip address (on rmnet_usb0). The problem is, the DNS entries from TMobile are preferred over the ones from the wifi network such that while wlan0 is correctly setup as the default route, DNS queries are being made to the TMobile DNS servers over wlan0 because there are no explicit routes to these servers. This is problematic because the remote DNS server may not respond to queries coming from out of network or site policy may disallow the use of foreign DNS servers-- both of which result in slow (or possibly failing) DNS queries since the cellular DNS is checked first. Also, where it did work, these queries could incur charges when the user is intending to use only wifi. In the case of (at least) TMobile, this could be a security concern because the well-known TMobile DNS servers are on the private '10.' network, which opens the possibility for a rogue DNS server to be on the private wifi network with this ip address. This could be fixed in (at least) four ways: 1) when on wifi, don't merge the DNS servers on cellular networks at all which forces the device to use the ones available on the site (wlan0). This is guaranteed to not incur changes 2) when on wifi, merge the DNS server from the cellular network, but add them after the ones on the wifi network. This will try the site's DNS first and only if they fail, fallback to the cellular DNS. This may incur charges under certain circumstances 3) add an explicit route to the cellular DNS servers through rmnet_usb0. This will bypass the site DNS with all queries going through cellular DNS. This will incur charges and would make the device unable to resolve site-local names. 4) same as '2', but also add explicit routes for the cellular name servers. This should only incur charges if wifi DNS fails I think '3' is out. '2' and '4' seems most intuitive (with '4' perhaps most correct). '1' seems also ok. # netstat -rn Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 0.0.0.0 192.168.x.1 0.0.0.0 UG0 0 0 wlan0 100.152.35.128 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.252 U 0 0 0 rmnet_usb0 192.168.x.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 wlan0 Jan 17 07:36:38 ubuntu-phablet NetworkManager[1130]: Auto-activating connection '/310260575949457/context1'. Before I did this, applications using all the toolkits (GTK2, GTK3, Qt4, and Qt5) properly obeyed the DPI value automatically detected from the monitor, causing them to automatically scale to a usable size. However, after upgrading to Xenial, GTK3 applications no longer have this behavior. Instead, they appear at the normal 96DPI size, causing them to be nearly unreadable due to the small size of their widgets. [Touch-packages] [Bug 840998] Re: LSB-based executable (printer driver) aborts with "No such file or directory"
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 837745 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/837745 I has the same problem, on ubuntu 16.04 beta 2, and after much searching came across this report. I had installed lsb and the epson-inkjet- printer-201112w_1.0.0-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb from the Epson download site. Looking in /lib, there was just ld-linux.so.2, a symlink to -> i386 -linux-gnu/ld-2.23.so. So mostly following the steps in comment #13, I created the following symlinks: cd /lib ln -sf ld-linux.so.2 /lib/ld-lsb.so.3 ln -sf ld-linux.so.2 /lib/ld-lsb.so.2 ln -sf ld-linux.so.2 /lib/ld-lsb.so.1 ln -s /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.23.so /lib64/ld-lsb-x86-64.so.3 ln -s /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/ld-2.23.so /lib64/ld-lsb-x86-64.so.2 ...and as if by magic the printer kicked into life! [Touch-packages] [Bug 1253693] Re: top status bar missing shutdown button, clock, sound icon and more on upgrade to 13.10
recently it happened with 15.10 usb install with persistent storage that the panel lost logout, restart. i booted then without casper-rw, i.e. removing the persistent flag to compare where the buttons are available (see here for boot options: http://shallowsky.com/blog/linux/install /ubuntu-persistent-live-cd.html ) . then i used dconf dump / > dump.conf both times and compared the two files. the difference is: +[apps/indicator-session] +suppress-logout-menuitem=true +suppress-restart-menuitem=true +suppress-shutdown-menuitem=true +suppress-logout-restart-shutdown=true i am still wondering what triggers ubuntu to make these settings without me wanting it to do it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to indicator-datetime in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1253693 Title: top status bar missing shutdown button, clock, sound icon and more on upgrade to 13.10 Status in indicator-datetime package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in indicator-session package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: This bug has been split from #1239710 as the branch for which changing launcher placement to "all displays" does not work. Every time I login, without fail, the top status bar is missing the gear icon for shutdown, the date, the sound icon and some others. The icons do show from the login window. So if I let the session time out so that the screen locks, I the gear icon appears in the top status bar and works. I have also added a new user to see if the issue has something to do with my account. The new user also has an empty top status bar. The issue happens for both dual monitor and single monitor configurations. When the second monitor is connected, setting launcher placement to "all displays" does not solve the problem. Neither does mirroring the displays. Everything worked just fine with 13.04. Same problem, still present on Ubuntu 16.04! =/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1008539 Title: Wrong volume binding when connecting bluetooth speakers Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I have a 2.1 speaker system and a Logitech bluetooth adapter for them that connects to my Asus UL50AG notebook for sound. In Sound Settings, I then have 2 entries: Built-in Audio Card and Logitech Adapter. The problem is that when I connect/reconnect to the bluetooth adapter, the sound volume knob is not bound to the Logitech Adapter. Instead, in Sound Settings, the Built-in Audio Card is selected instead of the Logitech Adapter. And when I use the multimedia keys on my notebook (Volume Up, Down, Mute), they have effect on the sound coming out of the notebook, not the external speakers. The expected result would be that, when I connect/reconnect the bluetooth adapter, the volume multimedia keys should bound to the new bluetooth setup, not the internal audio. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1571296] [NEW] Sawfish crash
Public bug reported: After upgrading from 15.10, xenial-sawfish stops with an error indicating that wallpaper can't be found. Turns out it is looking for wallpaper.jl or wallpaper.jlc. I searched for the file, installed it where it could find it, and that is currently my workaround. I reported it as "returns to login prompt", because that's what would normally happen. I've seen sawfish crashes in the past, and I've recently figured out enough to maybe catch it in the act to make a sensible report about it. But since Xenial is so close that's not worth persuing. Those crashes (losing my x session) were so annoying that I have wrapped sawfish in a script that asks: really quit? before exiting the loop of restarting sawfish. So... somehow the wallpaper.jl is not being included the package.
