[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571500] Re: console port speed impossible to set on ttyUSB0

2016-04-18 Thread Martin Pitt
It actually seems like --keep-baud is doing exactly what it's supposed
to:

   -s, --keep-baud
Try to keep the existing baud rate. The baud rates from the
command line are used when agetty receives a BREAK character.

So no wonder that it doesn't switch to 57600 right away :-)

I want to add a console port on a Ubuntu machine to be able to access

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571522] Re: Detect captive WiFi hotspots

2016-04-18 Thread Lorn Potter
There can be many ways captive portals work and it is tricky being able
to support the different ways of detecting this.

I've seen some offer redirects, but others offer different status codes
to indicate the captive portal, and not all captive portals act properly
once things get returned.

I would think this comes from network-manager level and not indicator
level.

Right now it is very annoying that when you connect to a captive wifi
portal, the device does not detect that. All other devices open the
log in page automatically, except ubuntu devices. One needs to
manually open the browser, type a url and get redirected before being
able to log in and start e.g. telegram messaging over the wifi
  connection.

My proposed solution to solve this:
When a WiFi connection is established, indicator-network should do a http GET
call to ubuntu.com. If the reply turns out to be a redirect, it should open the
browser with the redirect url.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1569758] Re: Screen dims automatically even when locking is disabled

2016-04-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Unusual things about my phones you might want to try:

Language = English (Australia)
Apps = none installed, just a fresh image
Brightness = 100% (manual, not auto)
Lock the screen = Never
SIM = none installed

Leave it on System Settings and the screen dims in seemingly less than a
minute.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1563287] Re: [regression] [OTA-10] [Mali GPU] Spread animation stutters badly with only a few apps opened

2016-04-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I can confirm with the original report that arale (MTK) also suffers a
significant regression in r3297:

one triangle on arale:
r3296: 1.3ms/frame
r3297: 2.6ms/frame

five triangles on arale:
r3296: 2.3ms/frame
r3297: 11.0ms/frame

It's not as major as the regression on krillin/mali, but still major.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1563287] Re: [regression] [OTA-10] [Mali GPU] Spread animation stutters badly with only a few apps opened

2016-04-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Regarding fixing bug 1517205, it appears the new EGL synchronization was
only ever required to resolve problems with software clients. But this
bug is mostly about hardware clients (Unity8 rendering to USC).

So history would seem to suggest that we could live without the new EGL
synchronization on hardware clients, and get the performance back.

  3. wait until active call screen appears
  4. navigate back to the keypad
  5. tap the now green indicator bar to return back to call
  6. tap the tone dial in call controls

  7. Actual result: One the first, 2nd or 3rd tap the screen is frozen. Even if
you hang up the phone you called from, the screen remains. Sometimes the screen
freezes when you try to navigate back and forth from keypad to active call. Try
several different ways.
A few times, I was able to hang up the phone I was calling from but the
active call screen stayed on the device. The only way to make the phone app
work again was to force quit it.

As an alternative route. Try to call the phone when the phone-app is
running. Accept the call and wait until the active call screen
appears. Try to interact with the tone dial icon in the call controls.
I was able to reproduce the freeze this way as well.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1492252] Re: Allow direct linking to a Preview via uri

2016-04-18 Thread Brian Douglass
Just a suggestion, but what if you had an optional feature where (if
enabled) the preview would fetch the single result and display it? So
for example, linking directly to an app in the click store scope would
first launch an api call then show the preview using the results of the
call. That way each scope can implement it (or not implement it) in a
way that makes the most sense to them.

I don't pretend to know anything about the internals of the scopes
implementation so my suggestion could be way off base.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571500] Re: console port speed impossible to set on ttyUSB0

2016-04-18 Thread Corsaire
damn it !

I found a way.
Well, I spend quite some time toying with the options but I had yet to do
that...

sudo /sbin/agetty --keep-baud 57600 ttyUSB0 vt220

gives no luck, the line always goes back to 9600bps, but using the
following

sudo /sbin/agetty 57600 ttyUSB0 vt220

gives the expected result of a 57600bps line console.

So now what can we conclude ?

I also have a Soekris machine with a real RS232 serial port, no USB adapter, it
works out of the box.
But when having a USB-to-serial adapter the problem described in this bug
report triggers.

So, should we conclude the --keep-baud option is no good with a USB-to-
serial adapter ? or is there something else worth investigating ?

Even so, I can't log in from the serial port at a speed other than

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571915] [NEW] Header cpu %'s don't match reality or per-process usage

2016-04-18 Thread Daniel Curran-Dickinson
Public bug reported:

The header of top (i.e the part that looks as below) is frequently
reporting unlikely result. With high load it is reporting mostly idle,
even though the per-process cpu usage is reporting multiple processes
with 100% and one with 200% cpu usage on a multicore machine.

The numbers don't make sense and don't match the kind of numbers
reported in trusty.

There is clearly some funkiness in what the header is reporting.

top - 22:14:53 up 8:31, 2 users, load average: 4.39, 4.79, 5.07
Tasks: 323 total, 2 running, 321 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
%Cpu(s): 33.9 us, 4.4 sy, 0.0 ni, 61.5 id, 0.0 wa, 0.0 hi, 0.1 si, 0.0 st

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571556] Re: Some GTK windows lose interaction

2016-04-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Your test case of showing "Scores" makes it a multi-window GTK app. So I
think you will find this is bug 1445543.

Show the "Scores" - you can switch focus between this and the main
window with Alt+` but doesn't respond to input.

I've not yet investigated what's unusual about this window. Some other
  dialogs (e.g. "About") work fine.

Also relevent to focus handling, despite being able to set focus to
the main window it doesn't respond to input - with the "About" option
above, closing that window enables it. With the "Scores" example it
isn't possible to close the unresponsive window.

Looks as though the toolkit stops responding to input events - they
are being received by the client process.

It's worth noting the one client case (comment #29) is also significant
(was 1ms/frame, now 14ms/frame). That's more than 500us.

Also, Omer pointed out in the description that there is a regression on
arale too (MTK). Although I haven't tested on arale yet.

This was not the case a few months ago, so we clearly regressed here.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571903] [NEW] PAM gets stuck waiting for audit_log_acct_message()

2016-04-18 Thread Joao Machado
Public bug reported:

During PAM processing of any request (auth, acct, or session), the
function audit_log_acct_message () (from /lib/i386-linux-
gnu/libaudit.so.1 ) is called to audit the event. One of the variables
that can be used during audit logging is the hostname of the requester
(PAM_RHOST). The audit_log_acct_message () function try to resolve this
hostname if the address is still not known, but when the DNS server is
not reachable or the query return is SERVFAIL, system tries a couple of
times before aborting the process of name resolution, which leads to
time wasted by PAM waiting for the return of audit_log_acct_message ().
In some cases, this time wasting causes the requester application to
timeout, for example a VPN user.

This issue happened to me while testing a vpn solution using pppd, and
at the same time dns server was down. The vpn client was timing out
during user/pass verification phase, and by looking at pppd debug logs
it was because of a very slow PAM processing. At same time, I could see
server was sending strange dns queries about "ppp0". (pppd includes the
dynamic interface name as the PAM_RHOST when calling PAM).

Summary of events:
1-pppd passes user/pass to PAM for auth
2-PAM pocess auth
3-PAM audit the event <- time wasted waiting for dns (>5 seconds)
(...)->the process is repeated for PAM acct and session checks.

By the way if DNS server responds with NXDOMAIN, the resolver aborts
immediately and the stuck issue is not seen. This I think is what
happens on most cases.

I wonder if PAM can be improved by making a non-blocking call to
audit_log_acct_message ().

Packages:
libpam0g:i386 - 1.1.8-1ubuntu2.2
libaudit1:i386 - 1:2.3.2-2ubuntu1

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571849] [NEW] Making the output "total" from ls more self-explanatory

2016-04-18 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 with coreutils 8.25-2ubuntu2 and for example on
executing "ls -al" on an empty directory I'm getting as output in the
first line "total 8" with 2 following lines containing the listings for
the files "." and "..". Actually I have no idea what "total" stands for
as the probably most plausible explanation of being the number of files
listed doesn't seem to match. Maybe this line could be reworded to be
more self-explanatory.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571508] Re: apparmor="DENIED" operation="file_mmap"

2016-04-18 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello, can you try modifying your apache apparmor profile to use
"flags=(attach_disconnected)"?

It'd be something like changing:

/usr/sbin/apache2 {

to:

/usr/sbin/apache2 flags=(attach_disconnected) {

Then reload with apparmor_parser --replace
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.apache2

Once that's done, could you report the new DENIED lines?

Thanks

  How to reproduce with argparse:

  $ . venv/bin/activate

  $ pip install -U argparse
  Collecting argparse
Downloading argparse-1.4.0-py2.py3-none-any.whl
  Installing collected packages: argparse
Found existing installation: argparse 1.2.1
Detected a distutils installed project ('argparse') which we cannot

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571686] Re: "Ask me each time" for SMS does not work

2016-04-18 Thread Henry
Hi Pat, thanks for fast respond.

I must admit I would like to have that settings working - as I
communicate via SMS over both SIM cards. And as the Messages app does
not have "contact"<->"sim" pair (that would be sooo much easier, if it
remembers last selected SIM for each contact/queue) I would like to make
a choice.

Also, there may be a trouble with selected (shown vs used) SIM card in
Messages app, as I remember several situations within last week when app
opened showing SIM1, I selected SIM2, but the message was sent from SIM1
(including "nice" warning about switching to other SIM).

+ I am using a Thinkpad laptop with a TrackPoint, which I find more convenient

What happens: TouchPad turns back on randomly, often after suspend,

Successfull creation of UbuntuOne account is not recognized

Status in ubuntuone-credentials package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The symptom is visible as a minor UI bug:

  1) Go to System Settings -> Accounts
  2) Create an UbuntuOne account (delete any pre-existing ones)
  3) Watch the page we are returned to

After a successful account creation, we should be returned to the account
list, where we see the newly created account; instead, we are returned to the
providers list, where the UbuntuOne account is now grayed out.
This happens because when the account creation fails, we leave the user on
the providers page (in order to possibly try again).

Besides this minor UI glitch, the bug has another effect, potentially more
serious: after online-accounts-ui detects that the account creation has been
successfully completed (which it doesn't, due to this bug), it adds the client
application to the ACL for the newly created account.
Now, the fact that this does not currently happen is not a real problem,
since all services using the UbuntuOne account are unconfined processes; but if
there was a third party click application which requested the creation of an
UbuntuOne account, this application would not be enabled to use it after the
creation.

I just got this device and wanted to connect to my WPA2 WiFi network

I have enabled developer mode and edited the network manager file in
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ using adb shell. After that, I
was able to connect to my network.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Set up a WPA2 network and give it a long password
  2. Click on your SSID on the list
  3. Enter your password
  4. Click "Connect".

  Expected result:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571686] Re: "Ask me each time" for SMS does not work

2016-04-18 Thread Pat McGowan
I was prompted to change the default setting but not for which sim to
use, although the UI clearly highlighted the sim so perhaps the setting
no longer makes sense.

BQ Aquaris E4.5 with OTA 10.1
Settings "Ask me each time" in "For messages, use" in "Cellular" in "Settings"

I am using 2 SIM cards and since the beginning of my usage (started
with release21 this settings was working as expected -> when I wanted
to send SMS and did not select SIM card by myself (so no SIM card was
highlighted in the Messages app), I was asked to select one.

Since some time (OTA-9?) there is always (first one) SIM card selected
despite the above mentioned settings. And, by whatever reason
sometimes the SMS is send from other then selected SIM card. Because
it is now happening much more often and I see that "nice" info: "You
switched to XXX XX" (PS: no I did not!), it becomes really annoying (I
have one SIM card in roaming mode) and people are receiving my
messages from different number and therefore I decided to open this
  bug report.

Bug description:
Device: BQ Aquaris E5.4 Ubuntu Edition

I just got this device and wanted to connect to my WPA2 WiFi network
which happens to have a 54 characters-long PSK. However, after
entering my password (which naturally takes a little while) and
clicking on "connect", it just simply returns me to the overview of
WiFi networks near me. No error message.

The following askubuntu.com questions appear to be related to this problem:
  http://askubuntu.com/questions/597333/get-wifi-password-into-ubuntu-touch

http://askubuntu.com/questions/306734/unable-to-connect-to-secured-wi-fi-from-nexus-7-running-ubuntu-touch-13-04

I have enabled developer mode and edited the network manager file in
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ using adb shell. After that, I
was able to connect to my network.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Set up a WPA2 network and give it a long password
  2. Click on your SSID on the list
  3. Enter your password
  4. Click "Connect".

  Expected result:
  Connected to the WiFi network

  Actual result:
You see the list again and no indications that you are connected to the
network. You aren't connected to the network.

Please turn off vibrate on touch/typing by default. It makes the phone
feel much more laggy than it really is, which is bad for making a

The reason I think is because the vibration mechanism runs for
hundreds of milliseconds. Whereas visual and aural feedback is in the
order of tens of milliseconds. So vibration feedback makes the phone
feel much more laggy. Please turn it off by default.

  WHAT we SHOULD GET :
A Menu where the user can choose the SIM card 1 or 2.

Bug description:
just realize that fonts-noto-cjk is available in the repository, finally its
packaged.
i don't really know about korean community.
But for Chinese and Japanese community, i think that the answer is clear.
noto-cjk is definitely better what we had before, like fonts- wqy and
fonts-droid.
Android community had received these complains for years, finally they got
them fixed on lollipop.
Fedora also set it as default chinese font start from F21.
and of course, i still hope that ubuntu could drop those 69-language-selector
fontconfig files, just like what F13 did.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571786] [NEW] Broadcom 43602 requires module to be reloaded to work

2016-04-18 Thread Mike O'Connell
Public bug reported:

Running 16.04, and a recent update (last week?) introduced the following
issue.

I have a Broadcom wireless card:

02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43602 802.11ac
Wireless LAN SoC (rev 01)

Upon startup the network will connect fine. Then after about a minute
it will drop out. Possibly related to the following in dmesg:

[ 163.870916] brcmfmac :02:00.0: Direct firmware load for
brcm/brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt failed with error -2

If I rmmod and re-insert brcmfmac it works until the next reboot.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571761] Re: zfs-import-cache.service slows boot by 60 seconds

2016-04-18 Thread Scott Moser
So:

a.) zfs-import-cache.service is 'After systemd-udev-settle.service'
b.) cloud-init installs /lib/udev/rules.d/79-cloud-init-net-wait.rules which
uses IMPORT of /lib/udev/cloud-init-wait to block network device add events
until cloud-init-local has written networking configuration

I'm pretty sure, then what is happening is:
1.) network device gets added and cloud-init-wait starts its 60 second wait for
cloud-init-local to finish.
2.) systemd-udev-settle runs, which waits until queued all events are processed
3.) deadlock until timeout from 1

Bug description:
In the "Today" scope ("Oggi" in italian) there are wrong italian
translations. What in english is "holiday", in Italy is "festività" -
you can't call it "vacanza" (singular) or "vacanze" (plural).

"Vacanze" is similar to "holiday", but in this particular context
  "festività" is the right translation.

  I'm using Aquaris e4.5 with Ubuntu 14.10 (r19).

PS: I'm member of Ubuntu italian translators, but I can't find where
  "Today" scope translations' are.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1571740] [NEW] Ubuntu PXE installer won't use NFS server

2016-04-18 Thread borzwazie
Public bug reported:

I am trying to install Ubuntu 16.04 (latest rc) via PXE. I am able to do
so, but I am unable to make the process use my local NFS server,
regardless of the options I use.

I have set the following options in my pxelinux.cfg file:

prompt 0
timeout 1
default auto
label auto
menu label ^Auto
menu default
kernel
distributions/ubuntu/16.04.rc2/install/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/linux
ipappend 2
append vga=normal
initrd=distributions/ubuntu/16.04.rc2/install/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz
 auto=true url=http://192.168.1.10/ks/16.04.rc2.ks.cfg locale=en_US
setup/layoutcode=en_US console-setup/layoutcode=en
keyboard-configuration/layoutcode=us console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200n8
interface=auto net.ifnames=0 netboot=nfs
nfsroot=192.168.1.10/var/lib/tftpboot/distributions/ubuntu/16.04.rc2 --

Here is the contents of my /etc/exports on my NFS server. I have confirmed that
I can mount this export on another Linux machine:

/var/lib/tftpboot *(ro,async,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check)

If I use alt-F4 during the install process, I can see that the installer
is downloading files from http://archive.ubuntu.com. This, despite the
fact that I'm using an nfsroot, and despite the fact that I include the
following in my preseed file:

d-i live-installer/net-image string
http://192.168.1.10/distributions/ubuntu/16.04.rc2/install/filesystem.squashfs
d-i mirror/country string enter information manually

d-i mirror/http/hostname string 192.168.1.10

  /var/lib/tftpboot *(ro,async,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check)

If I use alt-F4 during the install process, I can see that the
installer is downloading files from http://archive.ubuntu.com. This,
despite the fact that I'm using an nfsroot, and despite the fact that
I include the following in my preseed file:

  d-i live-installer/net-image string

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1485522] Re: Volume obtained is 100% in multimedia sink for sounds from app

2016-04-18 Thread Timo Jyrinki
It seems both the duplicate bug #1478506 (volume control increasing from
0) and this (volume always at 100) go away with the bug fix.

There is a remaining perceived bug of any sound playing app's volume
being controlled only if the app is playing something at the time of
volume control. If that's not the case, ringtone volume is controlled
instead.

When the "Marron in trouble" games launches a sound the multimedia
sink it's updated and when reading the volume it's always 100%.

I'ts not 100% for other applications using the multimedia role, like
the music app or other games/apps. The volume in that case is in sync
with the volume that was previously set for it.

This is the code from the indicator-sound where we get the 100%
  volume.

  var props_variant = yield _pconn.call
("org.PulseAudio.Ext.StreamRestore1.RestoreEntry",
sink_input_objp,
"org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties", "Get",
new Variant ("(ss)",
"org.PulseAudio.Ext.StreamRestore1.RestoreEntry", "Volume"),
null, DBusCallFlags.NONE, -1);
Variant tmp;
props_variant.get ("(v)", out tmp);
uint32 type = 0, volume = 0;
VariantIter iter = tmp.iterator ();
iter.next ("(uu)", , );

I did a workaround branch in the indicator-sound that reads the volume
at initilaization for every role and stores any change When the sink
is updated I read the volume in it that is already stored instead of
  reading the volume from pulse.

I'm not convinced of that, and would like to know why I get 100%
volume only for this particular game.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1378186] Re: When the only app of a selected department is uninstalled, the empty department remains selected

2016-04-18 Thread Pawel Stolowski
It's still the case. I don't think the shell should implement any logic
for such cases. Click scope could check if the department becomes empty
after uninstall step and - if so - return the ActivationResponse with a
CannedQuery that requests the root department.

I haven't tested it without the silo.

  Steps to reproduce:
Install an app that will add a new department to the list of installed apps.
I installed 2ubuntu.
  Go back to the home.
Select the newly added department. In my case, Books & Comics.
Long press on the newly installed app.
  Uninstall it.
The dash is refreshed and the app disappears, but the empty department
remains selected. See the attachment.

I think that if the dash is refreshed and the selected department is
empty, we should be back to All the apps.

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1571511] Re: hplip not compatible with cups, dbus in xenial

2016-04-18 Thread Daniel Curran-Dickinson
For the record, the hp-doctor output *may* be a red herring. It turns
out there was a typo in a directive in my cupsd.conf (from a bad edit).

It is possible (although not certain) that the hp-doctor/hp-check
reports of incompatible/missing version is not showing the root cause,
but is an issue with hp-doctor/hp-check that needs to be addressed to
avoid user confusion.

However, it may actually be a version problem as I discovered the typo
after reinstalling with 14.04.4 and getting a different error from
hp-setup and seeing the directive error in /var/log/cups/error_log
(which was probably also in the xenial logs, but masked by the fact that
hp-setup appeared to work and that other errors appeared later (closer
to the faulty result).

On Trusty cups refused to even start, leading to finding the issue, on
Xenial things appeared to succeed until actual printing failed.

Daniel

Title:
hpcups ppd fails to print; hpijs ppd works (hplip printer)

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in hplip package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The hplip in xenial is not compatible with the versions of cups and
dbus (and various other libraries) in xenial.

The initial symptoms were that after running hp-setup -i (text mode
only box), and attempting to print a test page from hplip, there was
no output. After cancelling that job from http://:631/... and
attempting to print another test page from the CUPS interface, CUPS
  reporter 'filter failed'.

Reviewing error_log revealed the message 'unable to open inital
  device. quitting'.

While this *sounds* like a device error, hp-levels and hp-clean both
work, so clearly the issue is not with access to the usb device (and
the appropriate /dev/bus/usb/*/* device has group lp and group rw
  permissions).

Also some web searching reveals that this can be caused by e.g.
ghostscript errors and is not necessarily indicative of an hardware
  device access issue.

Running hp-doctor gives the attached result

  hplip version 3.16.3+repack0-1
  cups 2.1.3-4
  dbus 1.10.6-1ubuntu3

On an up-to-date as of 2016-04-18 01:00:00 -0400 Xenial system
installed from final beta alternate CD.

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1571511] Re: hplip not compatible with cups, dbus in xenial

2016-04-18 Thread Daniel Curran-Dickinson
It appears that in both xenial and trusty the hpcups ppds do not work
for some models (e.g. officejet j4500 series which uses deskjet 6500c as
cups model type).

On trusty hpijs ppd does work, but the hpcups ppd fails. Based on
comparing the ppds, it appears that there is a difference in what the
manufacturer/model name passed in the gs command line looks like.

This is consistent with the web search results mentioning ghostscript as
the one complaining about the device (i.e. at debug level the cups logs
show ghostscript failing to open bbox, but that's probably the wrong
device due to an error in command line that ends up getting used).

I will attempt to reproduce on a system from which I can pull the logs.
