[Touch-packages] [Bug 1582242] Re: Support a user-session mode for authenticating

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  Ubuntu phone development requires in session greeter functionality to perform
suitably. This functionality does not exist in current versions of LightDM.

  [Test Case]
  1. Install a session that supports in session greeter
  2. Log into that session
  3. Activate greeter functionality

  Expected result:
  It works

  Observed result:
  The functionality is not implemented.

  [Regression Potential]
  Some risk of changing existing behaviour, reduced by regression tests still
passing. Functionality is only enabled for sessions that opt-in to this
behaviour so additional security risks is limited to new sessions.

  Original description:

  We talked about this in person in Prague.

  Ideally a greeter could run as in the user's session and act as a
  lockscreen for the user as well as a way to authenticate/log-in as
  other users.

  This would let us avoid running a whole other session for the greeter
  on the phone, which is memory intensive.

  It might be easiest for unity8 if that API was still just liblightdm,
  just running in a special mode. But I'm not picky on how it's done.

  There may be security questions around this. I asked Jamie and Tyler
  about it, I'll post any concerns from them.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1631627] Re: Unity 8 freezes on Nouveau

2016-10-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Last time I tried GTX970 (not GTX970M) I hit bug 1575516. But you seem
to have got further than that.

With other Nvidia chips I have encountered freezes like you describe.
Although I don't think all our nouveau bugs are optimally triaged yet.
One issue worth mentioning is nouveau multi-monitor support, which is
presently broken due to bug 1553328. It's possible Unity8/Mir
experiences instability for the same reason even with a single display.

Are you able to find evidence of a crash or in your kernel log of what
happened at the time of freezing?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1610499] Re: hadoop crash: /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04 has bug in killing process group

2016-10-09 Thread Dongdong88
Hi shanmuga,

(1) download the sourcecode
sudo apt-get source procps

(2) install dependency
sudo apt-get build-dep procps

(3) compile procps
cd procps-3.3.10
sudo dpkg-buildpackage

then you could get a kill binary .

Title:
  hadoop crash: /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04 has bug in killing process
  group

Status in procps package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  when i run hadoop in ubuntu 16.04, ssh will exit, all process which
  belong to hadoop user will be killed ,through debug ,i found the
  /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04 has a bug , it has bug in killing process
  group   .

  Ubuntu version is:

  Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS
  Release:16.04

  (1)The way to repeat this bug
  It is easy to repeat this bug , run “/bin/kill -15 -12345” or any like
“/bin/kill -15 -1”  in ubuntu16.04  , it will kill all the process .

  (2)Cause analysis
  The code of /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04 come from procps-3.3.10 , when I run
“/bin/kill -15 -1” , it actually send signal 15 to -1 ,

  -1 mean it will kill all the process .

  (3)The bug in procps-3.3.10/skill.c ,I think the code "pid =
  (long)('0' - optopt) " is not right .

  static void __attribute__ ((__noreturn__)) kill_main(int argc, char
**argv)
  {
    case '?':
  if (!isdigit(optopt)) {
  xwarnx(_("invalid argument %c"), optopt);
  kill_usage(stderr);
  } else {
  /* Special case for signal digit negative
   * PIDs */
  pid = (long)('0' - optopt);

  if (kill((pid_t)pid, signo) != 0)
   exitvalue = EXIT_FAILURE;
  exit(exitvalue);
  }
  loop=0;
  }

  (4) the cause
   sometimes when the resource is tight or a hadoop container lost connection
in sometime, the nodemanager will kill this container , it send a signal to
kill this jvm process ,it is a normal behavior for hadoop to kill a task and
then reexecute this task. but with this kill bug ,it kill all the process
belong to a hadoop user .

  (5) The way to workaround
   I  copy /bin/kill in ubuntu14.04 to override /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04, it is
ok in this way . I also think it is better to ask procps-3.3.10 maintainer to
solve their bug,but i don't know how to contact them .

  NetworkManager consumes more power than previous releases because powersave
support is not updated.

  [Test Case]
  With the patch applied, network device power management should be on when
supported, for example:

  $ sudo iwconfig wlan0 | grep "Power Management"
Power Management:on

  [Regression Potential]
  Regression may happen when the power management feature of certain device
isn't implemented properly in kernel, but since we are quite conservative on
enabling power management in kernel development such case should be rare.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1547953] [NEW] timeanddate calendar shows events from google calendar that are not mine

2016-10-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have multiple calendars shared (of other users) that I have by default
turned off in Google Calendar and check them only from time to time,
when needed.

However, connecting Google account to Ubuntu automatically downloads
also events that are not from my calendar and belong to other (shared)
calendars.

This should not happen by default or rather user should be able to
disabled listing calendar events from the calendars he is not
interested in!

** Affects: account-plugins (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1504254] Re: IdleAction=suspend specified in logind.conf must systematically be inhibited during user interaction

2016-10-09 Thread Etienne URBAH
IdleAction=suspend still DOES NOT WORK AT ALL in systemd version
231-9git1 from Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety Beta.

Title:
  IdleAction=suspend specified in logind.conf must systematically be
  inhibited during user interaction

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I want my computer to suspend when there is NO opened user session.

  So, I have activated following lines inside '/etc/systemd/logind.conf' :
  IdleAction=suspend
  IdleActionSec=15min

  - Systematically , under Ubuntu Vivid (15.04), this works correctly :
 During user interaction, the computer does NOT automatically suspend, but
stays continuously alive.
 Once all users have closed their session, the computer automatically
suspends after 15 min.

  - But systematically , under Ubuntu Wily (15.10 beta2), the computer
automatically suspends after 15 min EVEN during user interaction.
 Hitting the keyboard makes the computer resume without data loss, but this
is still annoying.
 In fact, 'IdleAction=suspend' specified in '/etc/systemd/logind.conf' must
systematically be inhibited during user interaction.

Could you get a log from PulseAudio?
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio/Log.

Do you still happen to have a 4.4 kernel on your system? If so, does
this problem occur when booted with the 4.4 kernel?

Thanks.

Title:
  mediascanner prevents unmounting usb device

Status in mediascanner2 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Trying to unmount a block device I just mounted, I get the following
  error (sorry for not resetting the locale. It says "Device is busy"):

  :~$ sudo umount /media/tkluck/tjk-backup
  umount2: Apparaat of hulpbron is bezig
  umount: /media/tkluck/tjk-backup: apparaat is bezig
  (Welke processen het apparaat gebruiken kan mogelijk
   gevonden worden met behulp van lsof(8) of fuser(1).)
  umount2: Apparaat of hulpbron is bezig

  I get the same error in a dialog window when trying to unmount from
  the file manager.

  Using lsof shows that the media-scanner daemon is the culprit:

  tkluck@ultrabook-tjk:~$ lsof /media/tkluck/tjk-backup
  COMMANDPID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME
  mediascan 2898 tkluck   16r   DIR  252,3   2498562

  mediascan 2898 tkluck   20r   DIR  252,320480 39080525
  mediascan 2898 tkluck   21r   DIR  252,3 4096 46792990
  mediascan 2898 tkluck   22r   DIR  252,3 4096 46792991
  mediascan 2898 tkluck   23r   DIR  252,316384 46793749
  mediascan 2898 tkluck   24r   DIR  252,3 4096 47317994
  mediascan 2898 tkluck   25r   DIR  252,3 4096 47317997
  mediascan 2898 tkluck   26r   DIR  252,3 4096 47317999

  Sending it

  sudo kill -9 2898

  solved this for me.

  This is on Ubuntu GNOME 14.04. I uninstalled the mediascanner2.0 to
  solve this "once and for all" (which has no other impact since I do
  not use Unity).

  My guess is that the scan usually finishes quickly after mounting. But
  because this particular drive contains a big filetree, it doesn't,
  resulting in the issue.

  * Impact
  An integer overflow occurs when tracker-extract comes across an extremely
large GIF image or one which is specifically crafted.

  * Test case
  If for instance this file https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=326198

patches are applied.

  * Regression potential
  I have not tested these patches but the fix is in the Yakkety version and I
do not experience the crash there and no regressions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1556459] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad W530] Regression: cannot set up 3 display configuration any more (Optimus)

2016-10-09 Thread Paul Ortyl
Hi Christopher,

I am sorry for the delay, seems like I did not read my email for over
two weeks...

I have just tested with "Ubuntu 16.10 "Yakkety Yak" - Alpha amd64
(20161008)". No changes and exactly the same dialogs as described in
the original report.

I have also updated the desktop to 16.10 (alpha), no improvement either.

Let me know how how can I help further. This regression is really
annoying... I have to go through grub and BIOS settings each time I am
taking the notebook off the docking station.

As a workaround I had to disable optimus in BIOS. That also requires putting
the following line into /etc/default/grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="thinkpad-acpi.brightness_enable=1
acpi_backlight=vendor"
Otherwise the machine hangs at boot in kernel. These kernel parameters need to
be removed each time I switch BIOS to internal graphics in order to get
reasonable battery life.

  [Lenovo ThinkPad W530] Regression: cannot set up 3 display
  configuration any more (Optimus)

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I cannot set up the third monitor any more (it was working beginning
  of March 2016 with Ubuntu 16.04).

  The configuration with NVIDIA Optimus starts with builtin display (of
  Thinkpad W530) and one of (3K) monitors, the second monitor is
  detected, but not used.

  The unity configuration tool shows me two message boxes:

  "The selected configuration for displays could not be applied
  could not set the configuration for CRTC 64"

  and

  "Failed to apply configuration: %s

GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._gsd_2drr_2derror_2dquark.Code2:
could not set the configuration for CRTC 64
  "

  The first one I have seen at boot time on login screen (with 3
  displays) previously, the second one is new.

  The third monitor works if Optimus gets disabled in BIOS and the
  machine runs with Nvidia only

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1328118] Re: Scrollbars don't show hovering ListView/ GridView

2016-10-09 Thread Andrea Bernabei
Wow, I've just found this pretty old bug.

I am the author of the implementation of the new Scrollbars (landed
about 6 months ago).

This bug should be fixed, as you can hover to reveal the new scrollbar
and interact with it by dragging it or pressing the steppers buttons.

@Ugo: please reopen the bug if you think this is not fixed yet! :)

** Changed in: ubuntu-ui-toolkit (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: ubuntu-ui-toolkit (Ubuntu)

  Scrollbars don't show hovering ListView/ GridView

Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Using the code from this branch
https://code.launchpad.net/~kalikiana/ubuntu-ui-toolkit/interactiveThumb/+merge/218307
  which is practically being merged into trunk now.

  The scrollbars appear when scrolling (scroll wheel or dragging) but
  they don't appear when hovering at the edge of the ListView/GridView.

  After resizing the window for the first time the behaviour of the
  scrollbar on hover becomes normal (i.e. they appear when hovered).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1585723] Re: UbuntuShape on intel i915 (Atom) uses fallback CPU rendering

Title:
  UbuntuShape on intel i915 (Atom) uses fallback CPU rendering

Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I'm digging into unity8 performance problems on older generation Intel
  GPUs - specifically i915 Atom GPUs.

  I've tested a simple QML file with a single empty UbuntuShape in it:

  import QtQuick 2.4
  import Ubuntu.Components 1.3

  Rectangle {
  width: 400
  height: 300
  color: "blue"

  UbuntuShape {}
  }

  Running it with INTEL_DEBUG=perf env var set, I get this output:

  i915_program_error: Exceeded max ALU instructions (76 out of 64)
  ENTER FALLBACK 1: Program
  Mapping a busy BO, causing a stall on the GPU.

  which implies that MESA was unable to compile one of the UbuntuShape
  shaders as it created more ALU instructions than the GPU could deal
  with. MESA falls back to CPU rendering as a result.

  The GPU stall message I guess is related to that.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1178402] Re: tracker-extract crashed with signal 5 in g_malloc()

2016-10-09 Thread Nikita Yerenkov-Scott
Due to large differences in code I do not currently have a debdiff for
Precise, but I will upload my Trusty and Xenial ones now.

** Description changed:

+ * Impact
+ An integer overflow occurs when tracker-extract comes across an extremely
large GIF image or one which is specifically crafted.
+
+ * Test case
+ If for instance this file https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=326198
is saved on a computer tracker-extract will crash when it gets to it unless the
patches are applied.
+
+ * Regression potential
+ I have not tested these patches but the fix is in the Yakkety version and I
do not experience the crash there and no regressions.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1631763] [NEW] Ubuntu needs a GPU accelerated browser

2016-10-09 Thread Ekimia
Public bug reported:

We all know the Web support of an operating system is becoming more and
more important for users.

The situation right now in terms of browser Performance and power
consumption of GNU/Linux is not really in a good shape compared to the 2
other competitors : Windows and Mac OSX.

Windows 10 : Microsoft has shown how its integrated browser is more
efficient and less hungry on power consumption than other browsers.

Mac OSX: Safari is also showing a great power consumption and integrated
features.

SO this bug is to track progress for an integrated browser for Ubuntu ( can be
firefox, chromium, something else ) that would out of the box :

- Use GPU for video decoding

- Use GPU for Web 3D rendering like webGL

- integrate as much as possible EME HTML5 for DRM support (like firefox
49 for netflix)

Please suggest other features in the comments

** Affects: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Package changed: software-center (Ubuntu) => ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 722910] Re: xz/bzip/gzip fails with hardlink errors on ntfs partition (files with > 1 link)

2016-10-09 Thread xhienne
Thanks. IMHO, the title should no longer mention NTFS. The behavior can
be observed on any filesystem.

Try this, for example, on an ext* FS:
# touch foo
# ln foo bar
# gzip bar
gzip: bar has 1 other link -- unchanged
# bzip2 bar
bzip2: Input file bar has 1 other link.
# xz bar
xz: bar: Input file has more than one hard link, skipping
# lzma bar
lzma: bar: Input file has more than one hard link, skipping

Note: I have also affected this bug to the gzip project

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1559596] Re: arale capacitive button not disabled on music playback

2016-10-09 Thread Karl Rinne
I've given up on Ubuntu Touch and MX4 - sorry. I'm not a developer (just
a user who wanted to support the Ubuntu Touch project). I've had the MX4
four about 18 months in total. 5 months after reporting this bug
severely affecting the devices usefulness, and running into countless
bluetooth headphones issues, no meaningful response from any developer,
I'm switching back to Android and Nexus phone.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1631746] [NEW] grub accepts only one key press in total

2016-10-09 Thread ralphb
Public bug reported:

When grub start, I can press exactly one key, then all other key presses
are ignored. I cannot tell if grub crashes or not.

This one keypress could be RETURN, then normal boot continues. It could
be ARROW DOWN, then the second line in the grub menu is selected.

But from then on, all further key presses are ignored, be they RETURN,
ARROW UP/DOWN, even CTRL+ALT+DEL.

This breaks the selection of MEMTEST and other grub entries but the
first.

Note that I'm using a regular USB keyboard.

Title:
  grub accepts only one key press in total

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  When grub start, I can press exactly one key, then all other key
  presses are ignored. I cannot tell if grub crashes or not.

  This one keypress could be RETURN, then normal boot continues. It
  could be ARROW DOWN, then the second line in the grub menu is
  selected.

  But from then on, all further key presses are ignored, be they RETURN,
  ARROW UP/DOWN, even CTRL+ALT+DEL.

  This breaks the selection of MEMTEST and other grub entries but the
  first.

  Note that I'm using a regular USB keyboard.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1631748] [NEW] ubuntu-bug selects wrong category

2016-10-09 Thread ralphb
Public bug reported:

The ubuntu-bug tool always assumes an xorg bug when I select "other".

For example, selecting "other problem" on the first screen and then "I
don't know" will create an xorg bug report, even though I want to report
another problem (e.g. grub).

The selection in the first screen apparently is not honored, which makes
reporting bugs (including bugs about ubuntu-bug) quite difficult.

(Also, the launchpad package search dialog reports an "OOPS-xxx" error.)

Bug description:
  I've experienced this strange issue 4-5 times after OTA-12. It seems pretty
random and is hard to reproduce.
  When I get an incoming call, the screen turns on, the incoming call pop up
appears, but there is no sound at all even though the phone is not in silent
mode (and also the speaker volume is not set too low). I can accept this call
and keep conversing as usual.
  Once I asked the same caller to call me once again after a few minutes, that

  Device: E5, OTA-12, stable channel

  I can provide necessary logs if this happens again. Which ones should
  I gather?

  Possibly related to bug #1614943.

  fraction of a second and then the sound pauses abruptly.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1610499] Re: hadoop crash: /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04 has bug in killing process group

2016-10-09 Thread shanmuga
Hi @groden,

I am running hadoop 2.7.3 in pseudo distribution mode on ubuntu 16.04
through a Virtual Machine. I am facing the same issue. My ubuntu logs
off whenever i submit a new hadoop job. I would like to try your
workaround. Can you provide me a link/explain on how to download and
override procps-3.3.10 source code.

I am a beginner with ubuntu. Please help!

Title:
  hadoop crash: /bin/kill in ubuntu16.04 has bug in killing process

Status in procps package in Ubuntu:

**argv)
  {
    case '?':
  if (!isdigit(optopt)) {
  xwarnx(_("invalid argument %c"), optopt);
  kill_usage(stderr);
  } else {
  /* Special case for signal digit negative
   * PIDs */
  pid = (long)('0' - optopt);

  if (kill((pid_t)pid, signo) != 0)
   exitvalue = EXIT_FAILURE;
  exit(exitvalue);
  }
  loop=0;
  }

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1612367] Re: [Touch] Incoming call gets silent randomly

2016-10-09 Thread GTriderXC
Today I decided to ignore a phone call from one person. She tried her
luck several times(i think something like6-8 times). Every second or
every third call came without a ringing sound, screen awoke and the
phone vibrated but stayed mute. Here a log from a media-hub:

  [phone] After Update OTA 11 Phone does only load when poweroff

Status in indicator-power package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Modell: BQ Aquarius E4.5 Ubuntu Edition

  After Update OTA-11 the charging mechanism stopped working after three days.
The phone is not rooted or modified in an other way.
  An other side effect is, that the phone can't be connected through USB -
Tested with USB 3 Port on Ubuntu 16.04 and Windows 7.

  If USB is connected, the Power Indicator somtimes shows the little
  flash for a second but then only the battery sysmbol is shown. The
  Battery is definitly not charging because after half an hour the power
  percentage felt to 95 % (when it was fully charged). I also mentioned
  thatafter the Update the runtime of my cell phone decreased from 36
  hours to approxmatly 20 hours.

  The only way for now to charge the phone - for the moment - is to turn
  it off and then plug it to the charger. This works but is an absolutly
  show stopper. Personally I think this is more kernel-related Bug than
  a bug for this package but I did't find a package that is closer to
  the topic.

  Are there any logs I can ceck to see what the problem is?

Christopher,

The bug can not be reproduced on 16.10.
Indeed I tried a simple test such as

gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc ! xvimagesink

On 16.10, the video is NOT always on top.
On 16.04, the video is always on top.

  I've tested a simple QML file with a single empty UbuntuShape in it:

  import Ubuntu.Components 1.3

  Rectangle {
  width: 400
  height: 300
  color: "blue"

  UbuntuShape {}
  }

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1592721] Re: Don't write search domains to resolv.conf in the case of split DNS

2016-10-09 Thread Martin Pitt
James: I'm not familiar with this specific fix, but I know that
restarting NetworkManager will not kill/restart the spawned dnsmasq
instances (by its own choice: KillMode=process). Does it help to stop
NM, kill the dnsmasqs, and then restart it? (Or just a reboot)

--

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1592721

Title:
  Don't write search domains to resolv.conf in the case of split DNS

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in network-manager source package in Xenial:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  All VPN users meaning to use split-tunnelling in a situation where leaking
DNS data to the internet about what might be behind their VPN is undesirable.

  [Test case]
  1) connect to VPN
  2) Use dig to request a name that should be on the VPN
  3) Verify (kill -USR1 the dnsmasq binary from NM) that the request has only
gone through the VPN nameservers (only its request number should have increased
by one)
  4) Use dig to request a name off-VPN, such as google.com.
  5) Verify (kill -USR1 again) that the request has caused the non-VPN
nameserver request number to increase, and that the VPN number has not
increased.

  It is easier to verify this when there is as little traffic as
  possible on the system, to avoid spurious DNS requests which would
  make it harder to validate the counters.

  [Regression potential]
  This change modifies the way in which DNS nameservers and search domains are
passed to dnsmasq, as such, if a VPN is configured in a non-standard way and
intended to be used to resolve all network requests (which is typically not the
case for split-tunnelling) or if the public network is intended to always
resolve all requests while the VPN still provides search domains, one might
observe incorrect behavior.

  Possible failure cases would include failure to resolve names
  correctly (resulting in NXDOMAIN or REFUSED from dnsmasq) or resolving
  to the incorrect values (if the wrong nameserver is used).

  ---

  Currently, NM will write all search domains to both any DNS-handling
  plugins running, and also to resolv.conf / resolvconf; in all cases.

  The issue is that doing so means that in the split-DNS case on VPNs,
  you might get a negative response from all nameservers, then a new
  request by glibc with the search tacked on, to nameservers again,
  which might cause DNS requests for "private" resources (say, on the
  VPN) to be sent to external, untrusted resolvers, or for DNS queries
  not meant for VPN nameservers to be sent through the VPN anyway.

  This is fixable in the case where we have a caching plugin running
  (such as dnsmasq). dnsmasq will already know about the search domains
  and use that to limit queries to the right nameservers when a VPN is
  running. Writing search domains to resolv.conf is unnecessary in this
  case.

  We should still write search domains if no caching gets done, as we
  then need to expect glibc to send requests as it otherwise would.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1631709] [NEW] online-accounts-preferences provides blank screen when clicking into user field on Flikr, Google and Facebook accounts

2016-10-09 Thread Karl Foley
Public bug reported:

When I try to add any on-line account using online-account-preferences the
content screen is initially black then displays the correct login page.
As soon as I click into the login page to provide i.e. username, the page goess
blank which means I cannot complete the setup.
If I install the Gnome Control Center then I am able to add the the accounts
for Gnome applications and they work as expected. Still not available for
Ubuntu though.
