2016-12-29 Thread Debojyoti Pal

Title:
LiveCD: default user password, lock screen problem

Status in bash package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in gnome-screensaver package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I downloaded and tried the latest dapper liveCD.
I launched a terminal window and the text in the window said "To execute a
command as root, run 'sudo ' and enter your password.". This is a
problem because the user has just booted a liveCD and does not know his
username or his password.

Also, in the System menu is an option to "Lock Screen", the mouseover
message for this says "Protect your computer from unauthorized use".
So I clicked on the Lock Screen menu item and sure enough my screen
was locked! When I moved my mouse I was presented with a window that
said "Ubuntu LiveCD User" with "ubuntu" in small text under that and a
password prompt. I tried no password and also ubuntu as the password,
  neither was accepted.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1490349] Re: 15:10 and 16.04: bluetoothd reports "Not enough handles to register service" at start

2016-12-29 Thread Ubfan
On Lenovo w520, Ubuntu 16.04, kernel 4.4.0-57-generic, bluez 5.37-0ubuntu5,
unity desktop.
Same error messages relating to "Not enough free handles to register service".
Resuming from suspend results in bluetooth icon in title bar grayed out,
bluetooth switch is OFF, and bt mouse non-functional. Invoking the bluetooth
settings from the icon shows bt switch ON. From the settings, turn bluetooth
OFF, then ON again, then in the title bar icon, turn bluetooth ON also, then
the mouse will connect. Happens 10-20% of the time resuming from suspend,
greatly improved from kernel 4.4.0-32.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1575757] Re: Can't install kernel-nfs-server inside lxc container

2016-12-29 Thread Justin
My appologies if I'm missing something, but I cannot get the raw.lxc
setting to work for lxc.aa_profile=unconfined. I've tried setting it but
it doesn't seem to take. The .conf file that gets generated in
/var/log/lxd///&:lxd-factual-shrew_:
lxc.aa_profile=unconfined

It appears that the second entry is ignored. Is this expected? Is there
a way to work around the first lxc.aa_profile setting being created?

Presumably this is intended, and there is a way to configure lxc to allow
running nfs servers inside it (there are rumors of success on the web), but
https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/lxc.html is silent on the issue,
and doesn't even mention the word nfs.
  Likewise, https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/network-file-system.html
  doesn't even mention lxc.

2016-12-29 Thread DH
Even with these packages installed, importing .ovpn files with or
without "inline certificates" fails with the following dialog message:

"The file '.ovpn' could not be read or does not contain recognized VPN
connection information

Error: the plugin does not support import capability."

I suggest a priority of High considering today's security and government spying
problems. This needs to just work...

Title:
  Cannot import OpenVPN profiles

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 12.10 / Intel / ASUS Zenbook
  Package: network-manager

  1. receive an OpenVPN profile (ovpn and crt files) by email or download.
  2. open Network Manager
  3. look in vain for an "import" button or link.

  What should have happened instead:

  3. there should be an "import OpenVPN profile" button on the "new VPN"
  dialog

Prior to Unity, the gnome network manager had an "import VPN" button
which allowed importing configuration files for OpenVPN and Cisco.
The new Unity network manager has removed that button and not replaced
it with anything. The only workaround is to install the old Gnome
network manager, launch it from the command line, and use it to import
  the VPN profile.

Title:
openvpn in network manager app doesn't import/connect

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Following the copious examples, I am trying to setup an openvpn client
on 16.04 and when I try to import the client.ovpn file I get the same
gateway name entered a bunch of times and none of the cert information
filled out using the network management applet.

When I fill out the details manually it just tries really hard and
eventually fails (where can I find logs?)

When I try to connect from the shell, everything seems to go fine but
no traffic goes through the tunnel even though a tun0 adapter exists.

To reproduce (this assumes openvpn support is already installed):

  1) export client.ovpn from an existing OpenVPN server
  2) Open the network manager applet (top right of the gnome UI).
  3) Add a VPN connection
  4) Import (last choice at the bottom)
  5) Select the ovpn file from step 1
  6) Dialog is completely misconfigured. No certs are imported and the host for
the VPN is comma repeated several times

There doesn't seem to be any problem with the server based on the
  below output (for testing)

  root@christian:~# openvpn --client --config client.ovpn

I suspect the connection was timing out or something while I typed the

  What I expected to happen:

type password, click connect, get connection, or some useful error.

  What actually happened:

type password, click connect, dialog disappears and nothing else

It shouldn't silently fail because I'm taking a long time to type.

I suffer from this problem too. It is very annoying. I always have to
hurry typing or NM drops the connection attempt and the window which
asks for the password becomes orphaned.

Also, forgot to mention this before, messages delivery is often delayed,
if phone is reset, message is delivered right after unlocking the sim
cards and connection to the networks.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1652486] Re: mesa gpu lockup

2016-12-29 Thread undefined
after rebuilding mesa with the patch applied and installing the
resulting packages (specifically libgl1-mesa-dri:i386 as i traced the
change code/function through the build process to that package and tf2
is i386 even on amd64, but also dependencies and associated packages)
tf2 no longer prompts a gpu lockup (even after hours of game play, where
it use to occur within 10 minutes).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1523100] Re: Alsa not detecting internal microphone [ALC255] (Realtek)

Title:
Alsa not detecting internal microphone [ALC255] (Realtek)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I've just installed Ubuntu 16.04 alongside Windows 10 on a 64bit Acer
Aspire VN7-792G and noticed, that the internal microphone doesn't
work. The computer has been released a couple of months ago and it's
Intel Skylake -based with a Sunrise Point -based motherboard.

INFO: The problem exists in Ubuntu 15.10 too, only microphone jack
detected. Currently using Ubuntu 16.04 for proper hardware support.

Alsa reports the audio device to be:

  Card: HDA Intel PCH
  Chip: Intel Skylake HDMI

The speakers are working fine, but both alsamixer and pavucontrol
(Pulseaudio Volume Control) raport the unplugged external microphone
connector as the only sound input.

I have tried many of the alsa model configurations (options snd-hda-
intel model=something) without success, alsa finds only the microphone
jack, which works fine when I plug an external microphone in it.

  Here's some info:

  lspci | grep -I audio:

00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-H
  HD Audio (rev 31)

  cat /proc/asound/cards:

  0 [PCH]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0x8432 irq 128

And a clip from dmesg | grep snd:

  [3.019164] snd_hda_intel :00:1f.3: bound :00:02.0 (ops
i915_audio_component_bind_ops [i915])
  [3.047505] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: autoconfig for ALC255:

  [3.047510] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:hp_outs=1

  [3.047511] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0:mono: mono_out=0x0

  [3.047514] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: Mic=0x1a

One problem is that I can't find any model options (options snd-hda-
intel model=something) or other parameters for the card's model
(ALC255), I suppose this issue is relatively new.

Bug description:
After switching from Xorg to Wayland on Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 with GNOME
3.22 I have found that when I use the right-click menu to open
Terminal from the desktop that a window looking like this shows up on
the screen for about a second or less:

  Terminal_Opened_From_Desktop.png

And then when it closes all the other Terminal sessions go with it
instantly killing anything I've got running from any of the gnome-
terminal windows which is really quite annoying and luckily I didn't
have anything vital running from one at the time. But this could
seriously cause something quite bad for another unsuspecting person.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1651923] Re: apt https method decodes redirect locations and sends them to the destination undecoded.

2016-12-29 Thread Julian Andres Klode
The problem is: the http methods URL-encodes URLs before sending them,
the https one does not. And our redirecting code decodes the locations
given, because the http method encodes them.

This is of course horribly broken: We should not decode the location and
re-encode it in the first place. That said, we can't fix this right now,
so a simple work around for this issue is probably to just do the
quoting in the https method as well.

I hope we can get rid of the https method, and just add TLS support to
our own method - that will get rid of a lot of problems with the https
one.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1653094] Re: apt-helper fails on urls with space

2016-12-29 Thread Julian Andres Klode
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1651923 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1651923

It does work. The input URL you pass to it must not be encoded, though.

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/corefonts/the%20fonts/final/andale32.exe

will be encoded to

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/corefonts/the%2520fonts/final/andale32.exe

(the % is encoded as %25) and that causes things to fail.

Title:
apt-helper fails on urls with space

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  ttf-mscorefonts-installer tries to download
  http://downloads.sourceforge.net/corefonts/andale32.exe via apt-helper
  download-file.

  That url redirects to

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/corefonts/the%20fonts/final/andale32.exe,
  a url containting a space (%20), witch it seems apt-helper doesn't
handle well, as it ends up with
  https://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/corefonts/the&;... the part
up to the space in the redirected url.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1653094] [NEW] apt-helper fails on urls with space

2016-12-29 Thread Peder Stray
Public bug reported:

ttf-mscorefonts-installer tries to download
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/corefonts/andale32.exe via apt-helper
download-file.

That url redirects to
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/corefonts/the%20fonts/final/andale32.exe,
a url containting a space (%20), witch it seems apt-helper doesn't
handle well, as it ends up with
https://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/corefonts/the&;... the part up
to the space in the redirected url.

completely different modem (Huawei E392) and it fails in the same way.
Furthermore, the workaround steps described in the report itself do also
work for me.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1652791] Re: Evince PDF doesn't print, yet Writer prints just fine

2016-12-29 Thread Martin Vysny
Thank you for your reply! I think Evince cannot know which settings are
"bad" - this should be the job of maybe CUPS or the printer driver. So
I'm not sure how Evince can help here... Of course Evince can implement
a workaround for this:

1. remember the printing settings per printer;
2. Add a button to the printing dialog which resets the settings to the default
values.

Thanks again, and all the best in 2017 ;)

Title:
Evince PDF doesn't print, yet Writer prints just fine

Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I have the Canon PIXMA IP7250 printer installed. When I plug it via
the USB cable, the printer driver seems autodetected incorrectly:
  Canon iP7200 series - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.11 , however printing of
the test page succeeds and the test page is printed successfully.
Writer is also able to print the documents correctly. However printing
PDFs via Evince does absolutely nothing - the printing job seems to
get executed correctly, however the printer power led just blinks two
times and that's it - no error message is produced, no segfault, no
  feedback, nothing.

The really interesting thing is that on another laptop with Ubuntu
16.10 the printer works correctly and prints the PDF without any
problem. I am totally at loss what to google for or where to search
for possible solutions as there is no error message :(

  Thanks for any tip.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 603415] Re: Unity should have a screen magnifier

2016-12-29 Thread Alex ARNAUD
Dear Compiz Team,

Could you explain what changes have you made into Compiz to fix this issue ?
Is Unity 7 now usable with the EZoom module ?

Best regards.

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

In gnome-keybindings-properties, in the Accessibility section, there
are three entries by default: toggle magnifier, toggle screen reader,
and toggle on-screen keyboard. None of these work, whether or not
Assistive Technologies is currently running and whether or not orca is
  currently running.

WHAT I EXPECT TO HAPPEN: I should be able to configure a shortcut to
any of these actions, such as Ctrl-Alt-A to the Toggle magnifier
action. Then, pressing, Ctrl-Alt-A will start the magnifier.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS: I am able to modify the entry in the gnome-
keybindings-properties window, but pressing the designated key does
not perform any action. That is, the magnifier does not open. Changing
the hotkeys for other actions works okay.

WHY THIS IS BAD: This is confusing and misleading behavior, and can be
especially damaging for people who need the accessibility features.
Ideally, the keybindings should be fixed, but otherwise they should be
  removed from the dialog.

This is true under up-to-date Lucid 10.04 tested on several systems.
