[Touch-packages] [Bug 1737379] [NEW] display backlight turns full on every minute

2017-12-09 Thread Alexander Gordeev
Public bug reported:

Today I started working at about 6 am with lights off before the sunrise. So I
set the display backlight on my notebook at the minimum. I used notebook
keyboard buttons for this. Then I realised that night light (which makes
display colors warm) is already off. I opened Settings window, navigated to
Devices -> Monitors screen and set the night light to the manual mode. I
changed the upper limit to 8 am. The night light turned on immediately. Then I
closed the Settings window. I worked for about an hour till 7 am. Then suddenly
the backlight of the display started to turn full on about every minute. I
changed it to the previous low level with the buttons but it kept turning full
on in after about a minute. Changing any settings in the Power tab didn't help.
The only thing that helped was:
chmod -w /sys/class/backlight/*/brightness
After I ran the command the problem is gone. The only effect I still see is:
the slider in the Power tab of the settings window is switching to the full on
position about every minute. Without any input from me of course.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1737377] [NEW] Unknown tunnel mode "vti6"

2017-12-09 Thread Simon Déziel
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Xenial users are unable to create vti6 tunnels.

[Test case]

1) Create a vti6 tunnel
sudo ip tunnel add vti0 mode vti6 local :: remote fdd6:bdb4:5614::2 key 54
2) No error should be displayed and "ip link" should show a new device named
"vti0"

The ip tunnel call currently fails with the error 'Unknown tunnel mode
"vti6"' and no tunnel is created.

[Other Info]

vti6 mode is supported according to the man page:

$ man ip-tunnel | grep vti6
   MODE :=  { ipip | gre | sit | isatap | vti | ip6ip6 | ipip6 | ip6gre |
vti6 | any }
 Modes for IPv6 encapsulation available: ip6ip6, ipip6,
ip6gre, vti6, and any.

iproute2 4.9.0-1ubuntu2 on *Artful* has no problem creating vti6
tunnels.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1648183] Re: Crackling and popping sound when using headphones

I've updated script for systemd systems. It fixes comment #30 issue and
now does not leave any error messages during boot (script issue):

Laptop is HP Pavilion - 15-au118tx. The laptop has B and O play and
the output from speakers are just fine, when using headphones there is
some kind of crackling and popping sound in both ears but prominently
  in the left ear.

The issue happens only when the sound is played, if i reduce the PCM
way low using alsamixer, the effect is minimized but the volume is
also reduced. Increasing the volume in the panel increases the PCM as

There seems to be a few bugs tracking the precursor this work, like

AUR has a simple service file, not sure if that would be useful -

And there are a Cancel and OK buttons.

When I click OK, a nautilus window pops up (I'm using Kubuntu, so its
not something I'm used to see).

Running xdotool on the window, I get "window 32179936 has no pid

  is against the X11 specifications.

This behavior is weird, and frankly - a bit annoying.

  Currently in debian exp here:

I was hoping to to get a new feature release of the very popular
Digikam (5.7.0) into artful under a FFE, but that has bumped the
  minimum exiv2 build depend from 0.25 -> 0.26.

If due to rdeps etc an update in artful turns out not to be possible,
I would like to target this for early in 18.04 LTS cycle.

  [MIR] nghttp2

Status in apache2 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in curl package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged
Status in nghttp2 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Availability: src:nghttp2 is in artful/universe and builds binary
  packages for all available architectures.

Rationale: In order to enable apache2's support for HTTP/2,
libnghttp2-14 must be in main (libnghttp2-dev is added as a b-d for
src:apache2, but it can remain in universe). The other binary packages
produced by src:nghttp2 should remain in universe. While upstream
Apache still describes mod_http2 as 'experimental'
  (https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/mod/mod_http2.html), we presumably
want to enable it by 18.04. It makes sense to process this MIR now so
that we can work through issues with HTTP/2 support during the 17.10
  cycle.

Rationale update: Upstream Apache has indicated 2.4.26 will 'unmark'
  mod_http2 has 'experimental':
  https://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.4/howto/http2.html#comments_section

Rationale update v2: The public page referred above already has
removed the note and marked http2 as an "extension".

  Quality assurance:

The only package needed at runtime to be in main is libnghttp2-14 (current
ABI) itself. As this is only a library, there is no configuration required
after installation.
No debconf questions are asked by default during the installation of
libnghttp2-14.
There are no long-term outstanding bugs against libnghttp2.
  Ubuntu bugs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nghttp2
   - There is one automated (it seems) report of a security issue with the
16.04 version. I have not yet confirmed if it was/is present in the latest
versions.
+ I received a forward offlist between the bug reporter and upstream
developer. This particular issue is in example code which documents potential
usage, but is not part of the shipped library itself.
  Debian bugs:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/pkgreport.cgi?dist=unstable;src=nghttp2
   - Two bugs, neither of which are serious.
  Upstream issue tracker: https://github.com/nghttp2/nghttp2/issues
   - There are currently 175 open issues for the upstream project.
   - It is not yet clear how many of these issues are in the core library vs.
the binary tools built by the upstream project.
The package seems to be well-maintained in Debian.
The package does not interact with exotic hardware (or hardware at all).
Based upon the latest build logs, some tests are run, but not all. I will
investigate if all tests can be run during the build.
The package's debian/watch file is current.

UI standards: N/A, as the library is not a user-facing application.

Dependencies: The only binary dependency of libngttp2-14 is libc6
  which is in main.

Standards compliance: The package meets the FHS and Debian Policy
  standards.

Maintenance: I have subscribed Ubuntu Server to the nghttp2 source
  package as the "owning" team.

  Background information:

There are significant improvements associate with HTTP/2. It was
deferred in 16.04 because it was considered 'too new' at the time.
While Apache still describes the mod as 'experimental' it feels like
18.04 must ship the module in order to promote/support its adoption
during the 5-year support cycle for that LTS release.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1725840] Re: resolvconf not correctly configured after update from 17.04 to 17.10

2017-12-09 Thread Daniel
Hello,

Was just bitten by this as well. etc/resolv.conf was pointing at
127.0.1.1.

hydrogen@Bliss:~$ ls -l /etc/resolv.conf
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 33 May 24  2016 /etc/resolv.conf ->
../run/NetworkManager/resolv.conf

hydrogen@Bliss:~$ dpkg -S /etc/NetworkManager/
network-manager, network-manager-vpnc: /etc/NetworkManager

Fixed by moving symlink, but let me know if I can provide any additional
information.

Title:
resolvconf not correctly configured after update from 17.04 to 17.10

Status in resolvconf package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After having updated my laptop from Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10, the DNS
lookup on my wireless network connection did not work any more.

As it seems, the file /etc/resolv.conf was static and contained wrong
data assigned by the NetworkManager. When I changed the file content
  manually to

nameserver 127.0.0.53

DNS lookup worked fine. After reboot, however, I had to repeat this
operation since NetworkManager seems to have replaced the file
  content.

Finally, I found a solution. Running

  sudo dpkg-reconfigure resolvconf

the file /etc/resolv.conf was replaced by the link

  /etc/resolv.conf -> ../run/resolvconf/resolv.conf

Now, the wireless network seems to work properly.

Hence, there must be some kind of bug during the update process from
Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10 that impedes resolvconf to be configured
  properly.

  Best regards,

  Artur

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1704623] Re: Use 100% time proc when drop caches is enabled

I'm wondering how unattended-upgrade breaks.
The whole system may be running slower without caching and seeing running u-u

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1734285] Re: unattended-upgrades.service ignores (changes in) /etc/apt/preferences.d/ files

2017-12-09 Thread Richard Arends
Hi Reczey,

Thanks for looking at this bug report. We observed that configuration
changes on pinning files are only effective after restarting
u-u.service. All the repos that we use, are trusted.

With regards,
Richard.

For example we 'pin' firefox on to a specific version and if a
configuration file is placed after the service is started, the pinning
is ignored. In our sitation that results in a newer firefox then we
  want at this moment.

We run Ubuntu on 2000+ workstations and our users often start a
workstation and let it run for days/weeks before rebooting and thus
  restarting the service unattended-upgrades again.

I did not test if changes in other apt files are ignored also.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1734285] Re: unattended-upgrades.service ignores (changes in) /etc/apt/preferences.d/ files

2017-12-09 Thread Balint Reczey
Files in /etc/apt/preferences.d/ are read when unattended-upgrade is run and
not when u-u.service is started thus it is safe to assume that configuration
changes take place without restarting u-u.service.
On the other hand there are cases when u-u does not respect pinning like the
one reported here: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=838920
Are all the repositories trusted on the affected systems?

Title:
  unattended-upgrades hangs system on shutdown

Status in unattended-upgrades:
  New
Status in unattended-upgrades package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: unattended-upgrades

I am running Kubuntu-Netbook, based on Karmic I believe, my problem
relates to shutting down the netbook.

  version appears as: Installed 0.52ubuntu1

I'd expect the machine to shutdown, reboot when requested.

Instead it appears to shut down nicely until I see

*Shutting down ALSA [ OK ]
Checking for running unattended-upgrades:* Asking all remaining processess to
terminate_

and it will just sit there, forever.

The unattended-upgrades script in /etc/init.d has been run on a
seperate machine by hand and appears to hang on that machine also.

My bug reporting is not much up to scratch, so I hope I've covered it.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1737046] Re: Razer Naga Chroma wheel tilt being remapped to vertical scroll

2017-12-09 Thread Reuben Lifshay
That, I am not sure on. I didn't change anything, so I was using
whatever the default is on the daily ISO. I'll look into that when I get
a chance and see what I was using and if the other changes anything.

I see you edited the description. I'm not sure that this is device
specific, but even if it is, I believe the bug I had referenced
(#926917) might have useful information. It had several other people
with identical symptoms as well.

2017-12-09 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
The remaining cross-building issues should be fixed in the latest
qtchooser package (64-ga1b6736-4).

See http://perezmeyer.blogspot.ru/2017/11/experimental-cross-compiling-

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1210124] Re: qmlscene is busy and there is heap growth when running idle apps

Title:
qmlscene is busy and there is heap growth when running idle apps

Status in qtdeclarative-opensource-src package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I've been using health-check from my PPA (ppa:colin-king/white) to
observe idle states of various phone apps and I'm seeing poll/epoll
spinning at ~10 polls a second and some heap growth even when idle.

  1. polling on idle consumes power, although small, it will accumulate when a
user has multiple idle apps running
  2. the heap growth is slow but will add up if an app is running for many
hours.

Attached is the system activity on two idle apps:

  1. /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/qt5/bin/qmlscene /usr/share/ubuntu-
  filemanager-app/ubuntu-filemanager-app

  2. /usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/qt5/bin/qmlscene /usr/share/ubuntu-
  calculator-app/ubuntu-calculator-app

  I'm observing:

  Top polling system calls:
PID Process Syscall Rate/Sec Infinite Zero
 MinimumMaximumAverage
 Timeouts Timeouts
 TimeoutTimeoutTimeout
2666 qmlscene poll5.627804
 0.0 sec3.0 sec1.7 sec
2674 qmlscene epoll_wait 4.965000
 5.0 sec5.0 sec5.0 sec
2686 qmlscene epoll_wait 0.200000
 5.0 sec5.0 sec5.0 sec
   Total 10.792804

  so ~10Hz of polling.

  Also, heap growth:

  Change in memory (K/second):
PID Process TypeSize RSS PSS
2666 qmlscene Heap0.00 0.39 0.39 (growing
slowly)

Since the RSS + PSS are growing I guess this is an anonymous mem-
mapped region that is slowly filling up and populating physical pages
and at sometime we may run out and the underying user space memory
allocator will map a larger region for more heap. But as it is, it
seems that the physical pages are slowly getting used which generally
points to a slow leak somewhere. I suggest running valgrind on
qmlscene to see if it can spot any heap leakages.
