The above Bluetooth speaker paired and started streaming audio
perfectly in Kubuntu 17.04. But the audio quality was poor, because
the default audio profile was the low-quality HSP/HFP one. When I
switched it to the A2DP profile, it sounded perfect again.

Can we make A2DP the default playback profile for Bluetooth audio

Title:
Regression, poor user experience, print dialogs garbled by
  unidentifiable driverless printers

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Recently, my print dialogs have started to include network discoverd
printers in addition to those configured in cups even if the cups-
browsed service is disabled and the BrowseRemoteProtocols option is
  set to none.

There does not seem to be any way to disable this behavior apart from
disabling avahi or its ability to talk to dbus, which causes side
  effects on the system.

Yet, in some environments this behavior is a definite regression over
the old one and leads to an extremely poor user experience.

  On some networks:

  - The print dialogs takes 3-10 sec to open which is a huge amount of
time for an action that is expected to be instantaneous and for which
  there is no visual feedback.

  - The print dialog contains many tens of printer entries, all
identified by weird hex strings that cannot be related to any useful
location, that do not help identifying which entry corresponds to
which printer and that only mess up the list making it hard to find
the printers that are actually useful.

For instance, suppose that you work at some office that has recently
purchased a batch of new printers all the same model. In the print
dialog you may get many entries like:

  HP_Laserjet_Pro_Mxxxdw_21ACF2

which only vary in the final hex string. How is one suppose to know
  what is where?

Please make it possible to disable this driverless printer madness.

Title:
  Can't use networkmanager from lightdm

Status in NetworkManager:
  Invalid
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
After upgrading to 16.04 desktop (unity) (clean install) from 14.04,
(so not really upgrading, but you get the point) I noticed that
lightdm with unity-greeter (all stock, nothing changed) can't connect
  to WiFi with network-manager.

WiFi works after loggin it, but it should be working before also, if
not, what's the point in having an icon there :)

I get the following message: Failed to add/activate connection. - (1)
Insufficient privileges. - see image.
  This worked fine in 14.04.

I have noticed this problem in both my desktop (Broadcom WiFi) and
Laptop (Intel WiFi) - So it has nothing to be with the chip.

Feel free to ask for more info.

  Edit:

  From syslog:

And, now, no more sound. The sound lasted just long enough for one re-
start. Bug should remain open.

note that when I run pulseaudio (verbose) at the command line it says that
the daemon is running but that pa_pid_file_create() failed

  -original text of bug--

I have had no sound since original (fairly recent) purchase. I
  purchased online from Dell.

Sound preferences were originally showing in upper right hand corner
of the screen, but the sliders for changing volume were grayed out,
and choosing sound test had no audible or visual result.

Now sound preferences are not showing in upper right corner at all,
and system preferences --> sound no longer shows 'sound test' as an
  option.

I tried to fix original problem myself by killing then re-starting pulseaudio
No effect. Also I tried commands

  apt-get purge pulseaudio
  and then later
  apt-get install pulseaudio

it seemed to be after that when the sound preferences stopped showing
in upper right corner, but I also did a general ubuntu update at the
same time (and there is still a restart required for update for
  'Latitude E5X60 System Update' 68614)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1738581] [NEW] apport is leaking environment variables (including passwords!) to public bug reports

2017-12-16 Thread H.-Dirk Schmitt
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

See the bug report
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evolution/+bug/1738564
created with ubuntu-bug.

Apport includes the file JournalErrors.txt
This file includes e.g. the following line.
Dez 16 19:11:31 hostname /usr/lib/gdm3/gdm-x-session[9679]:
dbus-update-activation-environment: setting
MPD_HOST=...@.xxx.org

Normally it would be not problem that gdm-x-session write this to the journal,
because the journal is not intended to be published on the internet.

Setting confidential informations via environment is maybe not the best
idea, but a legal procedure and for `mpc` the only way to set this
information.

IMHO the apport utility is here the problem, because it includes the
file with risky information to a public visible bug report.

Note: I manually delete the attachment in the mentioned bug report. But how can
I sure that a web crawlser hasn't read/preserved that attachment?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1738582] [NEW] [MIR] ibus-libpinyin and dependencies

2017-12-16 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Public bug reported:

Please include these packages in Ubuntu's component main:

* ibus-libpinyin
* libpinyin (the ibus-libpinyin binary depends on libpinyin7)
* lua5.1 (the ibus-libpinyin binary depends on liblua5.1-0)

As has been discussed at bug #1735362 we would like to replace ibus-
sunpinyin with ibus-libpinyin ("Intelligent Pinyin") in the live seed
and as the default input method for typing Simplified Chinese. Reasons
for the switch are:

- ibus-libpinyin is better maintained
- ibus-libpinyin is built with and depends on Python3
  (not yet in Debian: https://bugs.debian.org/883631)
- ibus-libpinyin is default input method in GNOME

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1704929] Re: Repeating "can't open /dev/ttyX: No such device or address" messages during installation

2017-12-16 Thread Mathew Hodson
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

console-setup continuously tries to open /dev/tty[1-6] on s390x, when
such consoles do not exist on s390x.

This can be seen on boot in the output from the initramfs, and during
  the installer.

- [Cuase]
+ [Cause]

It seems to me that the postinst of the console-setup is incorrect for
s390, since on s390 Linux tty[1-6] do not exist in any modes (LPAR,
  z/VM, KVM)

  [Solution]
I do not know what ACTIVE_CONSOLES should be set as, my guess is to set it
to... "guess". Usually it should be slcp, but that depends on which consoles
are configured/activated in the given KVM.

about inability to open /dev/tty*

Bug description:
I use no-cloud to test the kernel in CI (I am maintainer of the bcache
subsystem), and have been running it successfully under 16.04 cloud
images from qemu, using a qemu command that includes:

  -smbios "type=1,serial=ds=nocloud-
  net;s=https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mlyle/mlyle/master/cloud-
  metadata/linuxtst/"

  As documented here:

  http://cloudinit.readthedocs.io/en/latest/topics/datasources/nocloud.html

Under the new 17.10 cloud images, this doesn't work: the network comes
up, but name resolution doesn't work-- /etc/resolv.conf is a symlink
to a nonexistent file at this point of the boot and systemd-resolved
is not running. When I manually hack /etc/resolv.conf in the cloud
image to point to 4.2.2.1 it works fine.

I don't know if nameservice not working is by design, but it seems
like it should work. The documentation states:

"With ds=nocloud-net, the seedfrom value must start with http://,
  https:// or ftp://;

And https is not going to work for a raw IP address.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1731792] Re: Can't install libsndfile1-dev on Ubuntu 16.04.2 x86_64

2017-12-16 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for taking your time to report this issue and help making Ubuntu
better.

I tried to reproduce this issue on Ubuntu 16.04, but was able to install
libsndfile1-dev without similar issues. It might be that apt tried to
install an older version of the -dev package which caused a version
mismatch with libsndfile1. Could you please run `sudo apt update` to
update the package list and see if that solves the problem. If the issue
persits, could you add the output from `apt policy libsndfile1-dev` to
see which version of the dev package it tries to install?

Btw, when reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

  Enable multiarch in libsndfile1-dev

Status in libsndfile package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Release: Artful Aardvark 17.10
  Package version: 1.0.28-4

The current version of libsndfile1-dev is not able to be marked Multi-
Arch: same, because the examples it provides includes an autoheader
(?) generated config.h file, which has architecture-specific defines
like SIZEOF_INT. However, as far as I can tell, this header, as well
as common.h and sfconfig.h aren't actually used in any of the
examples, despite being included sometimes. So if they were removed,
it should be possible to mark the dev package as Multi-Arch: same. I
was able to install both amd64 and i386 versions of libsndfile1-dev
  after removing the examples.

For a more long-term solution, the header includes in
debian/libsndfile1-dev.examples can probably be removed once those
extra includes are removed. A change on the github repo for libsndfile
was recently merged to get rid of the extra includes, as it's also
probably a bad idea to (unnecessarily) include internal header files
  in example code.

I'm using pbuilder on a tmpfs with apt-cacher-ng to cache the downloaded
debs. It worked till now pretty good and fast. But since I'm have a pbuilder
for karmic I see regularly "E: Method http has died unexpectedly!" during
package download in my pbuilder. It almost always happen around package 22-24.
Retrying the complete build results in the same error, so I've do it manually
inside the pbuilder. There it also fails at first with the same error, but
restarting the download moves beyond this point (I guess it's because it has
the packages till there already downloaded). "apt-get install" just the package
it fails on shows also no error.
I've checked the logs of apt-cacher-ng but I don't see there any error
messages. My observations may fool me but I got the impression that it only
happens when the first 20 packages are really small and already cached by
apt-cacher-ng so it can deliver them pretty fast.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1717995] Re: extra domains not removed from resolv.conf when VPN disconnects

2017-12-16 Thread Walter Garcia-Fontes
Same for me. I really don't understand how /etc/resolv.conf should be
managed in Ubuntu 17.04. I have the setup described in comment #7. I
tried to have only network-manager manage /etc/resolv.conf, but then I
loose name resolution in containers.

I think we should open a new bug report, as this one marked with "Fix
released" will never get attention. It may also something worth
investigating upstream.

Title:
extra domains not removed from resolv.conf when VPN disconnects

Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I use a VPN (network manager "vpnc" config) to connect to my work
network. The gateway is "webvpn.purestorage.com". When I connect, I
get "purestorage.com" added to the "search" line in my
  /etc/resolv.conf (and /run/resolvconf/interface/systemd-resolved) -
which makes perfect sense, the VPN passes this info to me and then I
can connect to systems within the work network without having to use a
  FQDN.

The bug (which is a regression from older versions of Ubuntu) is that
when I lose my connection to the VPN (either because I disconnect
explicitly, or because the network goes down or I suspend my laptop),
the "purestorage.com" domain is not removed from those "search" lines.
And for some reason this prevents me from resolving
webvpn.purestorage.com (which prevents me from reconnecting to the
  VPN).

In particular, if I connect and disconnect my VPN, I get:

   $ systemd-resolve webvpn.purestorage.com
webvpn.purestorage.com: resolve call failed: No appropriate name servers or
networks for name found

If I then edit /etc/resolv.conf by hand to remove all the
purestorage.com entries from the search line - in other words, change

   $ cat /etc/resolv.conf
  # Dynamic resolv.conf(5) file for glibc resolver(3) generated by resolvconf(8)
  # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE BY HAND -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE OVERWRITTEN
  # 127.0.0.53 is the systemd-resolved stub resolver.
  # run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers.

  nameserver 127.0.0.53
  search home.digitalvampire.org purestorage.com dev.purestorage.com

  to

   $ cat /etc/resolv.conf
  # run "systemd-resolve --status" to see details about the actual nameservers.

  nameserver 127.0.0.53
  search home.digitalvampire.org

  and change nothing else, then:

   $ systemd-resolve webvpn.purestorage.com
  webvpn.purestorage.com: 192.30.189.1
  (vpn.purestorage.com)

-- Information acquired via protocol DNS in 25.9ms.
  -- Data is authenticated: no

I'm not sure if the bug is in systemd, network manager, or some other
package, but I'm happy to try any debugging that is helpful to resolve this (no
pun intended).

  ntp apparmor profile problem

Status in apparmor package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
the apparmor logs shows a couple of problems:

  audit(1511010465.396:304): apparmor="DENIED" operation="sendmsg"
  info="Failed name lookup - disconnected path" error=-13

  Nov 18 13:07:45 carol kernel: [107615.253441] audit: type=1400
  audit(1511010465.395:300): apparmor="DENIED" operation="open"
  profile="/usr/sbin/ntpd" name="/usr/local/bin/" pid=16815 comm="ntpd"
  requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r" fsuid=0 ouid=0

I fixed these by amending /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.ntpd...

  change the opening to this:
/usr/sbin/ntpd flags=(attach_disconnected) {

  add these:
# syslog
/run/systemd/journal/dev-log w,

# not sure why it needs this
/usr/local/bin/ r,

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1738528] [NEW] Sound applet reflects volume of different device when bluetooth device auto-connects

2017-12-16 Thread Iván Pérez
Public bug reported:

As currently set up in Ubuntu 16.04, when an audio device connects via
bluetooth, it starts being used by programs automatically. However, the
sound applet still "points to" the previously selected audio output.
Therefore, changing the volume has no immediate audible effect.

The way to change that, currently, is to go to Sound settings, select
the bluetooth device as current output (again?), and then the volume
will change.

I would expect that, when a bluetooth device is connected, it starts
being used, *and* changing the volume immediately will affect the
bluetooth device.

I googled a bit, and people have suggested [1] that the file
/etc/pulse/default.pa should contain load-module module-switch-on-
connect before the volume is restored. My installation does not have
that line, but it does have:

### Should be after module-*-restore but before module-*-detect
load-module module-switch-on-port-available

According to [1], maybe this should be listed in that file *before* the
aforementioned module-*-restore lines.
