[Touch-packages] [Bug 1724250] Re: gnome-terminal graphic artifact

2018-02-04 Thread Michael Vescovo
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1718238 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1718238

ok I can confirm that from my work machine turning the "application
menu" on from gnome tweak tool fixes it. If I turn it off the artefact
shows up again. It happens in real time as I toggle the switch.

If I type "echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE" it says x11. Not sure about my home
machine. I'll have to report back.

a graphic artifact on the right of the title bar, where the window
buttons to minimize, maximize and close are.

The window buttons are working so this is just a visual glitch and
does not otherwise affect gnome-terminal functionalities.

It does not matter whether the gnome-terminal window is maximized or
not, the graphic artifact is always present and does not disappear
hovering on it with the mouse.

Other applications do not appear to be affected, only gnome-terminal.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1746874] Re: gnome-shell and Xwayland sometimes leave $HOME/core files (should be /var/crash files)

2018-02-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Turning core files into crash files after the fact is a bit too late in
my case. With Xwayland and gnome-shell both racing to write ~/core I
will still be missing one of them.

Bug description:
gnome-shell and Xwayland sometimes leave $HOME/core files (should be
  /var/crash files).

  This is despite:

  $ grep . /proc/sys/kernel/core_*
  /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern:|/usr/share/apport/apport %p %s %c %d %P
  /proc/sys/kernel/core_pipe_limit:0
  /proc/sys/kernel/core_uses_pid:0

So really there are two problems:

  1. ~/core files are created but no /var/crash/ files
  2. Because they all have the same name (core_uses_pid == 0), when gnome-shell
crashes as a result of an Xwayland crash, you can only get the core from one of
them at most.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1747307] Missing required logs.

2018-02-04 Thread Ubuntu Kernel Bot
This bug is missing log files that will aid in diagnosing the problem.
While running an Ubuntu kernel (not a mainline or third-party kernel)
please enter the following command in a terminal window:

apport-collect 1747307

and then change the status of the bug to 'Confirmed'.

If, due to the nature of the issue you have encountered, you are unable
to run this command, please add a comment stating that fact and change
the bug status to 'Confirmed'.

This change has been made by an automated script, maintained by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team.

Title:
Wi-Fi networks list is empty after resume from suspend

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
After the laptop has resumed from suspend, there are no Wi-Fi networks
listed in the network manager applet. The connection still works but
the applet shows the Ethernet connection icon.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) close the laptop lid to enter suspend (or click "suspend" in the system
menu in the upper panel)
  2) re-open the laptop lid, resuming the laptop from suspend, unlock the screen
  3) check the network manager applet, no Wi-Fi networks are listed, disabling
and re-enabling Wi-Fi doesn't help

This is a problem because it isn't possible to connect to another Wi-
  Fi network.

The problem disappears if i run:

  sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service

as described here: https://askubuntu.com/a/761220, however, the
systemd unit file solution suggested in the same answer doesn't work,
probably due to a timing issue (the command is run too early and the
  Wi-Fi card is not ready).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1747307] Re: Wi-Fi networks list is empty after resume from suspend

Title:
Wi-Fi networks list is empty after resume from suspend

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:

You just double-click on them and follow the instructions. If for some
reason that doesn't work then you can run 'dpkg -i '

Here are some new links that work:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1676547] Re: No network connectivity (NIC unmanaged) after upgrade

2018-02-04 Thread Jean-Marie Houle
I just had the same problem...

I installed Ubuntu server 17.10 on a freshly formatted disk. During the
install I was asked to configure the wired interface. Ok

After that I installed the meta-package ubuntu-desktop and re-booted. No
wired interface available in NetworkManager. Wireless is ok.

I had to change "/etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml" from:

# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# For more information, see netplan(5).
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: networkd
  ethernets:
enp3s0:
  dhcp4: yes

to:

# Let NetworkManager manage all devices on this system
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: NetworkManager

All is well after a reboot.

When upgrading from Xenial (with all updates installed) to Yakkety/Zesty you
will boot to a system without networking - sad!

  Test Case
  -
  1) Boot a xenial desktop system
  2) Ensure network-manager version 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 from -updates is
installed
  3) Upgrade to yakkety or zesty
3.5) Enable -proposed and download the new version of n-m "apt-get download
network-manager"
  4) Reboot
  5) Observe you have no network

If you install the version of network-manager from yakkety-proposed
and then reboot you should have a network connection.

  1) Boot a xenial desktop system.
  2) ensure network-manager version 1.2.6-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 from -updates is
installed.
  3) Install nplan, configure to set up static network on an ethernet device
using nplan.
  4) Upgrade to yakkety or zesty
  5) Reboot
  6) Observe that your system is still being managed by networkd rather than
NetworkManager.

  Regression Potential

Any failure to manage ethernet or wireless devices after upgrade, or
issues with the use of netplan in conjunction with NetworkManager
should be investigated as potential regressions. For example, if after
upgrading, ethernet devices are no longer managed, or if devices that
should be explicitly ignored by NetworkManager due to existing user
configuration are now managed, these would indicate a possible
  regression caused by this update.

  Original Description

nplan was installed during the upgrade process but I had no network
connectivity after upgrading. Apparently, no package wanted to manage
  my ethernet connection.

  /usr/share/man/man3/scalbnf.3.gz
  /usr/share/man/man3/scalbnl.3.gz
  /usr/share/man/man3/scandirat.3.gz
  ...and so on...

But the /usr/share/man/man3 directory is still empty:
  # ls -la /usr/share/man/man3
  insgesamt 8
  drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jan 18 14:23 .
  drwxr-xr-x 26 root root 4096 Jan 18 14:23 ..

And btw the /usr/share/man/man2 directory doesn't exist.
Are there any new configuration changes in 18.04 which supresses man page
installation? I didn't know about a similar behavior in 17.10 and before.

Are there any new configuration changes in 18.04 which supresses man page

lrmd daemon with upstart resource has memory leak in Trusty

  affected to pacemaker 1.1.10.
  affected to glib2.0 2.40.2-0ubuntu1

Please note that patch for pacemaker is created myself.

  [Test Case]

  1. deploy 3 trusty instance.
  2. install corosync, pacemaker, mysql.
  3. setting with below info
  3.1 corosync.conf, proper setting for 3 node
  3.2 crm configure < setup.crm ( which has upstart:mysql setting )
3.3 monitor lrmd daemon's memory usage

  [Regression]
Restarting daemon after upgrading this pkg will be needed. this patch added
NULL check for several parts. prior commit[1] changed file structure. and This
change makes user changes usage of upstart:mysql to lsb:mysql. So I added free
function myself. This might affect to system.
For glib2.0, commit [1] is critical, but [2],[3],[4] is needed for building
it.

  [Original Description]

I'm running Pacemaker 1.1.10+git20130802-1ubuntu1 on Ubuntu Saucy
(13.10) and have encountered a memory leak in lrmd.

The details of the bug are covered here in this thread
  (http://oss.clusterlabs.org/pipermail/pacemaker/2014-May/021689.html)
but to summarise, the Pacemaker developers believe the leak is caused
by the g_dbus API, the use of which was removed in Pacemaker 1.11.

I've also attached the Valgrind output from the run that exposed the
  issue.

Given that this issue affects production stability (a periodic restart
of Pacemaker is required), will a version of 1.11 be released for
Trusty? (I'm happy to upgrade the OS to Trusty to get it).

If not, can you advise which version of the OS will be the first to
  take 1.11 please?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1747307] [NEW] Wi-Fi networks list is empty after resume from suspend

2018-02-04 Thread Dario Menin
Public bug reported:

After the laptop has resumed from suspend, there are no Wi-Fi networks
listed in the network manager applet. The connection still works but the
applet shows the Ethernet connection icon.

Steps to reproduce:
1) close the laptop lid to enter suspend (or click "suspend" in the system menu
in the upper panel)
2) re-open the laptop lid, resuming the laptop from suspend, unlock the screen
3) check the network manager applet, no Wi-Fi networks are listed, disabling
and re-enabling Wi-Fi doesn't help

This is a problem because it isn't possible to connect to another Wi-Fi
network.

The problem disappears if i run:

sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service

as described here: https://askubuntu.com/a/761220, however, the systemd
unit file solution suggested in the same answer doesn't work, probably
due to a timing issue (the command is run too early and the Wi-Fi card
is not ready).

The window buttons are working so this is just a visual glitch and

Workaround doesn't work anymore for me at least. I assume it only has a small
possibility of working due to a firmware bug.

software-properties-gtk fails to list ppas in alphabetical order

Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Expected behaviour:

Other Software - tab view lists ppas in alphabetical order.

software-properties-gtk is now the only place on the system where ppas
are consolidated. This problem has been around since jaunty/karmic and
is caused by there being two methods by which ppas are entered into
the system. The old method is via the software sources and the new
  method is via the add-apt.

Other Software view currently lists half the ppas added via the new
method in alphabetical order and the rest are juggled up.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1747220] Re: unsatisfied dependencies installing libjack-jackd2-dev

2018-02-04 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Thanks for reporting.

Based on the version number offered (2:1.9.12-1~zzartful2), this sounds
like it comes from a PPA. It doesn't seem to match the official Ubuntu
packages at least (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jackd2). Could
you please run `sudo apt update`, and if the problem persists, check
`apt policy libjack-jackd2-dev libjack-jackd2-0`. This will tell you
which package versions are available and where they can be installed
from.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record

2018-02-04 Thread Graham Bosworth
This is an update to my previous post, correcting an error of mine - I
think that the extra "dhclient" threads were created by the script that
was meant to be diagnosing the fault, not by NetworkManager.
Consequently, some of the reasoning was not valid. However, it may
still be true that physical network errors are contributing to the
problem. I shall wait and see what happens.

Title:
  Avahi-daemon withdraws address record

Status in avahi package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
For some reason, if I leave my Ubuntu VM up for a prolonged period of
time the machine will lose connection to the network. ip addr shows
that the nic port no longer has an address and an examination of the
  syslog shows this:

  May 27 14:19:38 matt-VirtualBox avahi-daemon[590]: Withdrawing address record
for 10.0.2.15 on enp0s3.
  May 27 14:19:38 matt-VirtualBox avahi-daemon[590]: Leaving mDNS multicast
group on interface enp0s3.IPv4 with address 10.0.2.15.
  May 27 14:19:38 matt-VirtualBox avahi-daemon[590]: Interface enp0s3.IPv4 no
longer relevant for mDNS.

  for no known reason.

The only reliable way to get the network to come back (that I have
  found) is a full reboot.

  = Test Cases =

  Test Case 1:
  - Login under Wayland (session Ubuntu)
  - Open a terminal
  - snap install gimp
  - Wait until installation finishes successfully
  - In the terminal window press CTRL+C

  Result:
  - Expected: ^C is displayed in the terminal and the prompt is at the start of
a new line
  - Actual: The session is terminated and the login screen is displayed

  Test Case 2:
  - Login under Wayland (session Ubuntu)
  - Open a terminal and type the following command:
    $ sudo udevadm trigger
  - In the terminal window press CTRL+C

  Result
  - Expected: ^C is displayed in the terminal and the prompt is at the start of
a new line
  - Actual: The session is terminated and the login screen is displayed

  = Original Description =

Multiple times a day I find myself without a session after hitting
Ctrl+C in a terminal, it seems the input falls through the
Ubuntu/GNOME session and to gdm, which itself decides to terminate.

Even worse, when this happens, you can briefly see your login password
in plaintext in the virtual terminal. You can see the password however
long you want if you stop the gdm service when this happens.

I don't have a good way to reproduce, but it seems locking the session
with a keyboard shortcut, subsequently unlocking it, maybe suspending,
at some point brings this behaviour into the picture, until the
  session dies with a Ctrl+C.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1747250] Re: I get a blank screen when switching users

2018-02-04 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
haydn, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

To confirm this is already fixed in Ubuntu could you please test
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and advise to the results?

** Description changed:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1747268] [NEW] No sound when connecting headphones or external speakers to my laptop [TravelMate P648-M, Intel Skylake HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2018-02-04 Thread Miquel
Public bug reported:

The sound works fine except when I connect either speakers or headphones
(stereo jack) to my laptop, then there is no sound. When I disconnect
them it sounds normal. I checked the alsamixer, no channel is muted. The
system doesn't seem to notice that I have plugged something in, since
the sound settings "output" does not change to "speakers" or similar (as
it did in my old computer).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1747242] [NEW] All host keys work except ed25519

2018-02-04 Thread Enkouyami
Public bug reported:

Changing the sshd_config file to use exclusively the ed25519 host key
type causes the server to reject all connections.

Excerpt from my config file:
#HostKey /etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key
