[Touch-packages] [Bug 1751545] [NEW] In Ubuntu artful, ther is no nopasswdlogin group anymore

2018-02-24 Thread Mitar
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu artful, there is no nopasswdlogin group anymore. It seems also
that the option to configure user to not have a password is missing.
Moreover, in the login screen, "login" button is disabled if the
password input box is empty, so even if I force set an empty password,
it cannot be used.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1715749] Re: Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1

2018-02-24 Thread Michael von Glasow
I'm currently working without an external display and without a docking
station/port replicator, and the screen just went black for a couple of
seconds. The system had been running for 1–2 hours at the time.

Title:
Intermittent black screen on HP EliteBook 840 G1

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Once every few hours, the internal laptop display goes black for a few
seconds. The external display remains on during this time.

This was reproducible with the laptop connected to a port replicator
and the external display connected into the port replicator DP port
via DP-DVI adapter, and with the laptop not connected into a port
replicator but connected to an external display.

The hard disk was originally installed with Ubuntu MATE 14.10 in a HP
EliteBook 6930p, upgraded to 15.04, 15.10 and eventually 16.04 and
finally moved to the EliteBook 840 G1. The problem started immediately
  after the drive move.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1751522] [NEW] Lexmark X2550 Printer

2018-02-24 Thread Andy Turton
Private bug reported:

This printer worked on previous versions of Ubuntu LTS but now crashes even
though I have changed the following:
/usr/lexinkjet/lxk08/etc/lxdn.conf
/usr/lexinkjet/lxk08/etc/99-lexmark-2600-series.rules
/usr/lexinkjet/lxk08/etc/Lexmarklxdn.conf

So that the printer ID is 010B rather than 011D (2600 printer) and I
have given the following permissions:

sudo chmod -R 755 /usr/local/lexmark/lxk08/bin/
sudo chgrp root /usr/local/lexmark/lxk08/bin/printdriver

I managed to get the printer to work once on Ubuntu 16.04 (heaven knows
how) but had to reinstall.

Can you see what is going wrong?
Also, as my machine is now 64 bit architecture, I am having to add 32 bit
systems to install the printer.

Thanks for any tips. I may just run the printer under Windows 7 Pro (it works
there - machine is dual boot) and wait until I get a new printer (HP or
Brother).
Best wishes,
Andy

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04)

2018-02-24 Thread Thomas Norton
Thanks to the instructions posted by @cjjefcoat I was able to get 116 up
and running on my machine. The only difference was that after purging
the toolchain ppa I had to run update-alternatives to get gcc to point
to gcc-5.

Bug description:
Running fine with nvidia-384 until this kernel update came along.
When booted into the new kernel, got super low resolution and nvidia-
settings was missing most of its functionality - could not change
  resolution.

Rebooted into 4.4.0-112 kernel and all was well.

The root cause of the problem has been found to be installing the -116
kernel without a sufficiently updated version of gcc. In my case, my
system received the gcc update AFTER the kernel update.

Uninstalling the -116 kernel and reinstalling it with the updated
version of gcc solved the problem for me.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1751345] Re: Timed out waiting for device dev-hvc0.device

2018-02-24 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
There is not enough logs, nor information about your system.

Please provide a journal log, from such a failed boot, also description
of your system, contents of /run/systemd, kernel command line. Also
which kernel are you booting, and are necessory kernel modules
available.

It appears that hvc0 console is detected, and is expected to be there...

That means I cannot login to the system using the console, and
sometimes it's the only method available. Console is on hvc0 itself.

  Happens on bionic and xenial.

I struggled with this issue as well. I think I have solved it by running
"/etc/kernel/postinst.d/dkms 4.13.0-36-generic --force
/boot/vmlinuz-4.13.0-36-generic" (so adding a "--force" flag).

Bug description:
The python3-lttngust package contains bindings that use ctypes to
interact with a dedicated library provided by the liblttng-ust-python-
agent0. The python code loads the library by name but it targets the
un-versioned ".so" which is part of the dev package.

This means that when installed without the dev package the bindings
  won't work.

The fix is to load the library by name and use the SONAME version
  ".so.0".

I'll provide a debdiff for the affected versions.

Bug description:
When testing MAAS on Bionic, we noticed sluggish performance that we
  could not immediately explain.

After comparing the results from a run of the test suite on Xenial to
a run on Bionic, we determined that the slowdowns had to do with DNS
lookups. In particular, if MAAS attempts to resolve a hostname using
getaddrinfo() and the call fails, on Xenial the negative result is
returned in a fraction of a second. On Bionic, the negative result is
returned in ~1.6 seconds, according to some measures.

  ### To run the test ###

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1750364] Re: systemd autopkgtest upstream test cases failing in v237

2018-02-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package systemd - 237-3ubuntu3

---
systemd (237-3ubuntu3) bionic; urgency=medium

  * tests/control: drop qemu-system-ppc.
Whilst some tests pass, many regress / fail to boot. This is not a
regression,
as qemu-based tests were not run previously.

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04)

2018-02-24 Thread gumbeto
The version in the toolchain ppa currently does not match the "retpoline"
changes in the new kernel ( see discussion above), so should not be used to
compile modules. Which is a pain if you still want to use a newer gcc
alongside for other purposes, because adding the ppa upgrades the default
gcc.

I still managed to install gcc-7 from the toolchains ppa while maintaining
the official gcc-5, but I had to pin the ppa with priority <100 (with a
file in /etc/apt/preferences.d/) to prevent automatic upgrades when doing
apt upgrade. I then selected a solution with no removals an minimum
upgrading of existing packages in aptitude.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04)

2018-02-24 Thread Clark Jefcoat
@matpen,

I had similar problems with gcc 5.4.1 on Ubuntu 16.04. I don't think
that version has been updated. My gcc 5.4.1 version was from the
ubuntu-toolchain-r/test ppa. I removed that repository and "downgraded"
to the official Ubuntu 16.04 gcc-5 (5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.9). (See
https://askubuntu.com/questions/307/how-can-ppas-be-removed)

$ sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
$ sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test
$ gcc --version
gcc (Ubuntu 5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.9) 5.4.0 20160609

Then after removing and reinstalling the 4.4.0-116 kernel, modprobe gave
me right answer.

$ sudo apt-get purge linux-headers-4.4.0-116 linux-
headers-4.4.0-116-generic linux-image-4.4.0-116-generic linux-image-
extra-4.4.0-116-generic linux-signed-image-4.4.0-116-generic

$ sudo apt-get install linux-generic linux-signed-generic

$ modinfo nvidia-387 -k 4.4.0-116-generic | grep vermagic
vermagic: 4.4.0-116-generic SMP mod_unload modversions retpoline

A reboot gave me a working system running the -116 kernel.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04)

2018-02-24 Thread Jacek Wieczorek
I can use my Ubuntu 14.04.05 with kernel 4.4.0-112-generic normally, but
when it comes to booting with 4.4.0-116-generic Nvidia drivers don't
work. My gcc-4.8 version is "gcc (Ubuntu 4.8.5-2ubuntu1~14.04.1) 4.8.5"
and gcc-5 version is "gcc-5 (Ubuntu 5.4.1-2ubuntu1~14.04) 5.4.1
20160904".

I tried reinstalling -116 kernel, but it didn't work and so didn't work
rebuilding the drivers with "dkms remove"/"dkms install". I can't get
"retpoline" to appear in modinfo output for nvidia-390 for "kernel
4.4.0-116-generic", no matter on which kernel version and with which
version of gcc I try to recompile them.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1751325] Re: [18.04] Needs to support PPP > 2.4.7-1

2018-02-24 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help make Ubuntu
better.

I think this kind of bug is a bit unnecessary. The only reason you
experienced this bug was because you were running -proposed during the
development cycle. Ubuntu has safeguards in place that prevents the new
version of ppp from reaching regular bionic until these version
incompatibilities are fixed (by rebuilding the packages).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1750937] Re: 4.4.0-116 Kernel update on 2/21 breaks Nvidia drivers (on 14.04 and 16.04)

2018-02-24 Thread Matpen
I am facing both the Nvidia problem (cannot login into gnome) and the
VirtualBox problem (cannot start VMs). I just tried all instructions
found here (reinstalling the kernel, even reinstalling VirtualBox and
DKMS modules manually) with both the official gcc and the new gcc-7 from
PPA, but no luck.

As far as I can tell from "grep gcc /var/log/dpkg.log" I received no
recent gcc updates on my Xenial machine recently, even after manual
upgrade.

Here are the gcc versions I tried
$ gcc --version
gcc (Ubuntu 5.4.1-2ubuntu1~16.04) 5.4.1 20160904
$ gcc-7 --version
gcc-7 (Ubuntu 7.2.0-1ubuntu1~16.04) 7.2.0

Is there any way to tell if they support the retpoline features?

Running fine with nvidia-384 until this kernel update came along.
When booted into the new kernel, got super low resolution and nvidia-
settings was missing most of its functionality - could not change
  resolution.

Rebooted into 4.4.0-112 kernel and all was well.

The root cause of the problem has been found to be installing the -116
kernel without a sufficiently updated version of gcc. In my case, my
system received the gcc update AFTER the kernel update.

Uninstalling the -116 kernel and reinstalling it with the updated
version of gcc solved the problem for me.

Re: [Touch-packages] [Bug 1751271] Re: sudo apt remove xclip sudo apt sudo E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

2018-02-24 Thread mitya
Hello.

I am understand, that this is mechanism for giving the root. But I am is
beginner, runnig from win.

Many things I do with Internet guides from
(https://losst.ru/kak-udalit-paket-ubuntu) or (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/)
and etc.  When installation process  of some package continued wrong, I
need to open  several guides to know how to uninstall all dependent
packages and configuration files. All commands copied and paste to
Terminal. So this was my mistake of copy/paste. I saw an old command and
paste part of new comand. beginner...

Execuse me  for troubling. I only wanted to restore operating system.
Thank you.

PS.   Maby you know the app, which work as Dicter on linux? This the
speech about OCR Translator for Linux, which works online.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1623125] Re: fixrtc script does not catch "Last mount time: n/a" string

2018-02-24 Thread Oliver Grawert
I have verified the xenial one with a locally created core and kernel
snap now (as mentioned before I can not verify it on artful simply
because there is no Ubuntu Core for this release, using the deb from
proposed on an artful desktop does not show any regressions though)

Bug description:
  [TEST CASE]
  * this will be tested by the snappy team
  * without this fix the dragonboard will not boot on a freshly written image

  [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
  * low as it only fixes an invalid string

trying to boot a new dragonboard image results in:

error: assertion is signed with expired public key
  "-CvQKAwRQ5h3Ffn10FILJoEZUXOv6km9FwA80-Rcj-f-6jadQ89VRswHNiEB9Lxk" by
  canonical

this is due to a clock skew that should normally be catched by the
  fixrtc script in the initrd.

the script is supposed to check the last mount time of the writable
disk (SD card) and if this does not exist, fall back to the filesystem
  creation time ...

in former versions of mkfs.ext4 the last mount time filed was simply
left empty, so this fallback worked fine ... in xenial the fields now
  look like:

  Filesystem created: Tue Sep 13 17:32:20 2016
  Last mount time: n/a
Last write time: Tue Sep 13 17:32:20 2016

due to the script running with "set -e" it falls over on the "n/a" and
exists before falling back to creation time, there needs to be a check
added for the "n/a" string now.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1751417] Re: gtk3.22 makes gedit & pluma screen flash for short text only

2018-02-24 Thread Cui Wei
Besides, Ubuntu 16.04 gtk3 editor (gedit/pluma) doesn't flash on
disabling GPU-accelerate.

Title:
gtk3.22 makes gedit & pluma screen flash for short text only

Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Environment: Ubuntu 18.04 development branch;
  GTK-3 version: 3.22;

For almost all gtk3-based text editor, such as gedit, pluma, mousepad.
There is textview flashing issue when the textview doesn't have its
side-scrollbar. Typically, short text in textview can make this
  condition satisified.

  1) Editor textview flashing problem only happens in OS physical hosts,
and doesn't happen when editors run inside Virtualbox.

  2) Editor textview flashing problem doesn't happen in Ubuntu 16.04
  which is of lower gtk3 version;

  3) If text document is long to generate either side of scrollbar for
the editor textview, then the textview is no longer flashing.

  More to see: https://github.com/mate-desktop/pluma/issues/282
Still, I just ensure that it is not a pluma issue but happens in all
gtk3-based text editor including gedit.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1751417] Re: gtk3.22 makes gedit & pluma screen flash for short text only

2018-02-24 Thread Cui Wei
Yes, for all GPU-accelerated window manager such as mutter, metacity-
composite, marco-composite, these is no screen flashing. However,
disable GPU-accelerate will make it sharply flash, typically using
metacity-nocomposite and marco-nocomposite.

However, even if using to metacity-nocomposite/marco-nocomposite to
disable GPU-accelerate, all gtk2.0-based textview such as leafpad is
still good and doesn't flash at all, but all gtk3.0 textview will
heavily flash that makes eyes unconfortable.

Especially for black-background + white-foreground textview => maximum
the text editor => fill full text in editor while ensuring no boundary
overflow to prevent producing the side scrollbar => dynamic selecting
multi-line text by mouse => extrodinary high-contrast flashing nearly
makes eyes blind.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1751425] [NEW] package libperl5.26 5.26.0-8ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: försöker skriva över delad "/usr/share/doc/libperl5.26/changelog.Debian.gz" som skiljer sig från and

2018-02-24 Thread Jos Sparreboom
Public bug reported:

Efter the black ink was finnished the HP scanner Deskjet 2540 stopped.
Now with new black ink it refuses to start again.

Description:Ubuntu 17.10
Release:17.10

It's a 'missing' driver, but it was not missing before the ink stopped.

I think to buy an all-in-one from another brand! (It's not the first
problem I have with HP.)

Question: Can you advise me: is Brother a good brand to Linux? Or do you
know a better?

Thanks Jos
