Bug description:
I'm splitting this issue off from LP: #1685542 (which made xserver-
xorg-input-all no longer recommend xserver-xorg-input-synaptics) for
  tracking the remaining issues.

gnome-control-center only supports libinput. If xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics is installed (because it's used by some desktops which
haven't been ported to libinput yet), synaptics overrides libinput.
That makes gnome-control-center's Mouse & Touchpad settings panel only
show basic settings and important configurations don't work.

  Questions
  -
  1. Which desktops/apps still need -synaptics?
  - Unity
  - Xfce?
  - LXDE? LXQt?
All the other major desktops have already been ported (LP: #1417980)

  2. Can these apps be ported or removed before 18.04 LTS is released?

  3. Can the desktops be ported and how bad is it if they are not ported
and -synaptics is no longer available?

  4. If -synaptics can't be removed completely from 18.04 LTS, does it
make sense to have gnome-control-center Conflicts: xserver-xorg-input-
  synaptics?

  5. Is there any other way we can fix this conflict?

  Audio problems after updating

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I'm running Ubuntu 17.10 and installed today a bunch of updates from
the software updater. After that, there's no sound from headphones
anymore, even if they are detected when plugged in and show up in
  sound settings and alsamixer.

The headphones work on other devices, and the computer speakers work
too, so the problem seems limited to the headphones output.

  Attached the alsa-info output.

  Thanks.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1756783] Re: Problems at display the second monitor

2018-03-18 Thread Marco
Yes, to get both screen working... I need to boot with only the Display Port
connected!
If I boot with both ports connected only the DVI one gets detected.

You boot just with DisplayPort, it connected?

I was helping him, but if we can narrow down this issue, upstream to

Title:
Intermittent HDMI sound, working with some videos/audios, failing with
  others

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm using Lubuntu 17.10 on an ACER REVO RL80 connected to my TV
  through HDMI.

The sound output is configured via sound settings (pavucontrol) to
  HDMI ouput.

The sound is OK with some apps, and KO with some others.

For example in VLC, it works usually fine.
But on chromium/youtube, the sound is HS.
Actually, i think it's not really a per app problem, but it might depend more
on the type of audio being played. I thought the audio was working fine on
firefox youtube at first, but once I ran into a specific video with the audio
HS (and I checked this video had sound).

When the audio is HS on a video play, if I start a video that usually
doesn't have the problem, this video has the audio HS too.

And reversely, if the audio is OK on a video, and if I start a video
that usually have the problem, this time the video has its audio OK.

Knowing this, I made a small sript to "fix" the audio of a video witht
  he problem.

I pause the video with the audio problem, I start a sound hat usually
doesn't have the problem, and I change the audio output back and forth
to HDMI output again. It usually fixes audio, and I jsute need to
resume the video with the problem BEFORE the good audio is over, and
  it's OK.

  This is my script

  mpv /path/to/whitenoise_48k.wav &
  pacmd set-card-profile 0 output:analog-stereo
  pacmd set-card-profile 0 output:hdmi-stereo

And it's interesting to note that the same sound in 44k doesn't work
  (whitenoise_44k.wav).

  Weird stuff...

These are the outputs of some commands, can make more if you want.

Title:
"Ubuntu Light" font has heavier weight than "Ubuntu"

Status in One Hundred Papercuts:

Status in Ubuntu Font Family:

Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in fonts-ubuntu package in Ubuntu:

Status in fonts-ubuntu source package in Wily:

Bug description:
After upgrading from Vivid to Wily, pages using the "Ubuntu light" font
actually renders with a weight heavier than the regular one in web pages.
This happens with Chrome/Chromium and also the Ubuntu browser.

After manually reinstalling the 0.80-0ubuntu6 version from Vivid (in
place of 0.83-0ubuntu1), the issue is fixed.

See the attached screenshot showing the result seen browing
  https://www.google.com/fonts#UsePlace:use/Collection:Ubuntu

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10
  Package: ttf-ubuntu-font-family 0.83-0ubuntu1
  ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.2.0-17.21-generic 4.2.3
  Uname: Linux 4.2.0-17-generic x86_64
  ApportVersion: 2.19.1-0ubuntu4
  Architecture: amd64
  CurrentDesktop: Unity
  Date: Sun Nov 1 17:55:19 2015
  Dependencies:

InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-10-14 (382 days ago)
  InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn" - Alpha amd64 (20140923)
  PackageArchitecture: all
  SourcePackage: ubuntu-font-family-sources
UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to wily on 2015-10-31 (0 days ago)

IMPACT: Ubuntu Light font renders incorrectly for all 15.10 users
which impacts the usability and visual design.

The new version of font package (0.831) corrects the relationship
between Light and Medium weight to follow the commonly used naming
  standards:

  Ubuntu Light Light Light Italic
  UbuntuRegular Italic BoldBold Italic
  Ubuntu Medium Medium Medium Italic
  Ubuntu Condensed Regular
Ubuntu Mono Regular Italic BoldBold Italic

TEST CASE: in 15.10, go to
  https://www.google.com/fonts#UsePlace:use/Collection:Ubuntu

If the Light weight renders heavier than Normal weight, the bug is in
  place

  REGRESSION POTENTIAL

0.831 was tested by manually running in 15.10 and no regression was
noticed, while the bug was fixed. The potential for regression is
  small.

Title:
[nc] Ship Ubuntu Mono .psf as default console font in Ubuntu 11.10

Status in fonts-ubuntu package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Further to bug #724022 ("Wishlist: Enable use of Ubuntu Mono as .psf
console-setup font"), Mark Shuttleworth requested that that Ubuntu
Mono bitmaps be used as the default Ubuntu Mono font for console use
  in Ubuntu 11.10.

" fonts-ubuntu-font-family-console … needs to be a dep of
'ubuntu-standard', and the default mono font for 11.10 please"

Ubuntu 11.10 Hard Freeze is in 32 hours time. This would require:

1. Upstream release of Ubuntu Font Family 0.80. A release candidate has
been out for a couple of days with no reports of show stoppers
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-font-family/+milestone/0.80)
2. Distro upload of Ubutu Font Family 0.80 minus Medium for oneiric
3. Accepting 'fonts-ubuntu-font-family-console' binary (built from the same
source) into universe
4. Promoting 'fonts-ubuntu-font-family-console' to main
5. MIR for 'otf2bdf'
6. MIR for 'bdf2psf'
7. Adjusting of seeds to add 'fonts-ubuntu-font-family-console' to
'ubuntu-standard'
8. Increasing CD/Image size by 18 kB in all cases. (By not building
Italic/Bold Italic this would decrease to ~10 kB)

This would get 'consolefonts' installed, but would require users to
manually install it. This would not require changes to screenshots or
documentation adjusts as nothing in the default has changed. To
subsequently set as default would require:

9. '/var/lib/dpkg/info/console-setup.config' adjustments; the desired font
capacity is limited; this sets the particular subset for
Latin/Greek/Cyrillic/Arabic etc. We cannot replace all of these.
10. We don't have sufficient glyph coverage to replace all of these.
11. The snapshot of the hinted Ubuntu Mono fonts from Vincent
Connare/Dalton Maag on 2011-09-22 are a vast improvement, but are still a work
in progress.
12. Regenerating Ubuntu server screenshots
13. Adjusting documentation slightly, although likely minor

Bug description:
The serif on the uppercase Г in Cyrillic in the monospace font seems
very weird to a native Cyrillic reader such as me (for Serbian
  language).

Ideally the design should be changed to the same as in the Ubuntu
proportional fonts, just a plain two-stroke character, suitably
proportioned to fill out the monospace cell when used in runs of
  monospace Cyrillic.

  Proposed solution:
    1. Monospace Г to have bottom serif removed
    2. Redrawn as two strokes, correctly proportioned for monospace Cyrillic
usage

Bug description:
Using systemd as init system on a HP zbook15 notebook having 2 external
monitors connected using a docking station and starting with lid closed the
system goes to sleep after successfully booting and starting lightdm greeter.
Sometimes there's enough time to enter username and password but system goes to
sleep every time after a few seconds.
The system can be woken up and used after this happens but it will not let me
shutdown later.

The problem is just present in docked situation starting with closed
lid using systemd a init system.

If notebook is used in non-docked situation with open lid and systemd
  the problem does not occur.

Workaround: A switch back to upstart as init system resolves the
  issue.

2018-03-18 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1434986] Re: Not working network connection after boot

2018-03-18 Thread ktecho
I have this problem in 18.04 daily with latest updates. It happens only
at boot. If I suspend to memory and resume, it connects to wifi without
any problem.

- I don't have package dnsmasq to uninstall it
- I disabled ipv6
- I don't have "dns=dnsmasq" in NetworkManager.conf

Any clue on what's happening? Will try to get some logs later.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1441253] Re: hanging suspend job prevents shutdown

2018-03-18 Thread Michael Neuffer
This still exists in Ubuntu 18.04(alpha)
I have the additional fun effect that my Dell M4800 laptop (lid closed, with 2
external monitors attached via docking station) suspends immediately after
logging into the display manager (doesnt matter if it is gdm3 or lightdm) on
boot. Only after waking up the laptop again I can start working.

If the laptop sits idle for a little while, it will also suspend and them might
or might now wake up again properly (the behaviour of gdm3 is worse here then
lightdm).
The laptop is configured NOT to suspend ine the Gnome Power settings.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 874535] Re: Volume Slider Jumps, due to rapidly changing hardware jack sense state

2018-03-18 Thread dlgandalf
Seems like the bit which shows the status of the jack being present
should be debounced. I'm checking the jack sensing with
`hdajacksensetest` and only incidentally the status is wrong. A simple
debounce of 2 polls with something like 100ms would be fine.

In Oneiric Release, The volume slider randomly jump down a notch or

mute mode and back again. This change actually affects the audio
output, resulting in pops correlated with the volume changes.

Title:
Pen input rotated by 90 degrees

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I install and Ubuntu 18.04 on a ASUS Transformer mini T103. From the
beginning the boot screen is rotated by 90 degrees ccw off like it is
  described in this post:
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1008893/ubuntu-17-10-boots-90-degrees.

The login screen has than the correct orientation, but the behaviour
of the ASUS Pen is the same as it is still rotated. If I tip on the
upper left corner using the pen, the pointer shows up in the upper
right. If I move than down, the pointer moves left. If I touch on the
screen with the finger all goes right. If I turn the tablet to
portrait, the screen contents switches as expected and than the pen
  works correctly.

It seem as if there a transformation issue.

  18.04 nvidia driver installation failure

Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
Description: Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch)
  Release: 18.04

Despite the recent switch to Xorg from Wayland, the NVIDIA driver
installed via the Additional Drivers tab in software-properties-gtk
still does not properly install the driver. Although the initial
install appears to successfully complete, the system does not load
properly on the next reboot and yields an unusable system; GDM login
  is never displayed.

Looking at the log from the reboot following the NVIDIA driver
install, the Nouveau driver appears to still be in use for video,
while the NVIDIA driver is associated with HDMI audio:
