I think this might be a general GTK problem. Could not browse the BBC

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1623666] Re: iOS device contents not displayed in Ubuntu

2018-04-14 Thread William F Hammond
It appears to me that upon my move this date to iPhone's iOS 11.3 Apple
may have finally given us transparent usb file system access to our
photos. See Bug # 1718554, no. 8.

Status in libimobiledevice package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
Plug in iOS device, and it doesn't show the documents on it.

Please package the recent fix in libimobiledevice*:

Vauge discussion that mentions using the latest git HEAD*:
  https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libimobiledevice/issues/327

*This discussion is quite vague. One comment points out "iOS 10
devices don't allow SSLv3 anymore but require at least TLSv1", but not
how or if that has been fixed in libimobiledevice git HEAD.

This ppa packages the git version and may resolve the issue:

https://launchpad.net/~martin-salbaba/+archive/ubuntu/ppa+libimobiledevice/+packages

There are several other upstream reports related to this problem.

Partial success patch (idevicepair only) trying to keep GnuTLS:
  https://github.com/libimobiledevice/libimobiledevice/issues/413

Failure with GnuTLS, Success with OpenSSL:
  https://gitlab.com/gnutls/gnutls/issues/145

  Ubuntu packages libimobiledevice with "--disable-openssl":
  https://github.com/libimobiledevice/ifuse/issues/32

Duplicate bug 1638177 suggests to repackage libimobiledevice using
OpenSSL to avoid this problem, as per comment 27 below.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1718554] Re: Need updated libimobiledevice to mount IOS 11 devices

2018-04-14 Thread William F Hammond
EUREKA (maybe) !

This evening I took the iPhone update to iOS 11.3, and just out of curiosity I
decided to check out the iphone as an attached device in the file manager. And
I'm in. I don't know why. I did not use
idevicepair nor ifuse. If I run ideviceinfo, I still get "ERROR: Could not
connect to lockdownd, error code -3".

In the file manager I found that clicking on a thumbnail gave me the
photo.

Messing around in the command line, a call to "df" suggested that I look
at "/run/user/1000".

Going there I found a current datestamp on its subdirectory "gvfs" and within
that a sole item
with robotic name "gphoto2:host=%5Busb%3A004%2C023%5D".

Inside that there is a single directory "DCIM" (less than I used to see
in iOS 10.3), but that has always been the place for photos.

Within DCIM there are subdirectories "100CLOUD" and "100APPLE". I'm not
sure what that's about, but the photos in the first are older and are
all of size 3264x2448. During the time period for the photos in
100CLOUD, I changed to a new phone, but the latest photos in there were
taken on the new phone. In 100APPLE the photos are all of size
4032x3024.

I'm guessing that usb infra-structure invoked some gphoto infra-
structure, and that libimobiledevice is not in the picture, but I don't
know.

And for the moment I'm guessing that Apple has cleaned up its act with
iOS 11.3.

My Ubuntu is 16.04.4 LTS, and I'm running the Mate evolute of classic gnome.
In the Mate GUI connecting the phone to a usb port causes an icon to appear on
my desktop. A right click on that
icon gives me an unmount option that I used before disconnecting the phone.

Mouse icon flickers when connected to i-tec USB 3.0 Docking Station

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I am using the built-in laptop screen, one external monitor connected
directly to my laptop via HDMI, and one external monitor connect via a
  i-tec USB 3.0 Docking Station.

What happens is my mouse cursor flickers and is followed by an weird
rectangle, in which the screen doesn't update.

Deactivating my laptop screen didn't change anything.

This is not reproducible if I only use the laptop screen and HDMI
  connected external monitor.

WORKAROUND: Log out and in again.

Bug description:
I have noticed that after upgrading to GNOME 3.20 on Ubuntu GNOME
16.04 that the built-in search functionality is almost impossible to
use in the GTK file chooser (though it is the same one that allows you
to save files as well as choose them).

So if one types something into the search, after they have typed the
first letter it will immediately select the top search result meaning
one has to re-select the search box, this happens for every letter so
searching for a long string becomes very annoying. If one carries on
typing once it has selected the top result and unselected the search
box it will start searching in the other search which only looks at
  results.

Bug description:
  Hi,

Marmuta wrote a patch for this issue, that I applied to the gtk+3.0
package shipping currently in the development version of Ubuntu zesty.
You will find the corresponding debdiff attached to this bug thread.

Marmuta performed tests with org.gnome.desktop.interface scaling-
factor = 2 , where few issues are left for Onboard on hidpi screens,
that are not related to gtk, but rather to unity-greeter or gnome-
screensaver. He did not notice any issue with scaling-factor = 1.

Can a sponsor please review the debdiff?

  Thanks in advance.

  Original description:

See attached screen shot. Blue is a GtkPlug, black is a GtkSocket.
  Source code below.

What I expect to happen is that the GtkPlug has the same size as the
GtkSocket.
What actually happens is that GtkPlug only covers a quarter of the area of
the GtkSocket.

Impact: Onboard on HiDPI displays is near unusable at login and lock
screen, aka unity-greeter and gnome-screensaver. Original bug report
  here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1562734.

  Steps to reproduce:
  - build plug and socket samples from below
  - set display scaling factor to 2
System Settings -> Display -> Scale for menu and title bars = 2
  - run ./socket $(head -1 <(./plug))
-> blue GtkPlug is too small, it should cover all the black

  - resize the window
-> at smaller sizes the scaling suddenly corrects itself, at larger ones it's
wrong again

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1303649] Re: systemd-logind spins in cgmanager_ping_sync()

2018-04-14 Thread Marcelo de G. Malheiros
Dear Guilherme,

I have a mostly vanilla Ubuntu 14.04.5, right now with kernel
3.13.0-145.

I've just tested the new "204-5ubuntu20.28" packages from "-proposed",
and they run fine, with and without the latest "cgmanager". No problems
detected.

Thank you for your support.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1764042] [NEW] wifi crashes in ubuntu 16.04 lts xenial

2018-04-14 Thread israel oluwole
Public bug reported:

Good day,
I am a new ubuntu user and I've been finding a solution everywhere to this
issue:
I run ubuntu (studio) 16.04 lts, code name: xenial dual booted with windows 8
on Hp notebook 15. When I first installed ubuntu, hotspot from my BlackBerry
q10 connects fine but suddenly it stopped and every time i connect it pops up
the dialog box: wifi authentication required by wifi network and expects me to
retype a password that is already correct!
I have tried reinstalling network manager, adding [device] wifi-rand*... to
network*.conf and so on and rebooted over and again. Nothing has changed yet.
The same applies to my bluetooth too (it was okay suddenly it changed)

I need help quick, I need my pc for an imminent exam. Thank you

** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

  Steps to reproduce:

Enable a clipboard program such as Klipper/Glipper/Parcellite then:

  1. Attach a file in gmail by clicking on browse. A file selection dialog
(File Upload) appears.
  2. Write on location the path to a file which will be auto-completed as you
write. Use a filename that shares the beginning of the name with other files in
the same directory. For example, foo/barbarbar and foo/barfoobar
  3. When the filename you are looking for appears completed in the location
bar press enter.
  4. The filename selected will be foo/bar which does not correspond to any
existing file.

  Problem (copied from upstream):

The problem is that the file chooser's entry uses the selection in GtkEntry to
hold state about "this is what will be inserted if the user hits Tab", but
  klipper steals the selection ownership.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1438014] Re: gnome-terminal-server and mate-terminal crash when setting keyboard shortcuts

2018-04-14 Thread yzp15
Hello. I had some debugging with valgrind and gdb for the error with
stacktrace top

 g_type_check_instance_is_a glib2.0-2.43.92/./gobject/gtype.c:4016
 gtk_widget_get_toplevel gtk+3.0-3.14.9/./gtk/gtkwidget.c:11382
 window_group_cleanup_grabs gtk+3.0-3.14.9/./gtk/gtkwindowgroup.c:110
 gtk_window_group_add_window gtk+3.0-3.14.9/./gtk/gtkwindowgroup.c:169
 gtk_window_set_transient_for gtk+3.0-3.14.9/./gtk/gtkwindow.c:3134

This is use-after-free due to incorrect grab deregistration (gtk_grab_remove
tries to remove the grab not from the same window_group where it was added by
gtk_grab_add)
Results were posted to Bug #1667227 and Bug #1667232
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mate-terminal/+bug/1667227 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1667232

I think that gnome-terminal grab use-after-free after editing keyboard
shortcuts may be not related to the patch
"debian/patches/016_no_offscreen_widgets_grabbing.patch" (it only helps
to report Critical to the log).

Both gtk_grab_add and gtk_grab_remove calls gtk_main_get_window_group
function, but it returns different results for these two calls (more
details at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mate-
terminal/+bug/1667227/comments/8)

static GtkWindowGroup *
gtk_main_get_window_group (GtkWidget *widget)
...
  if (GTK_IS_WINDOW (toplevel))
return gtk_window_get_group (GTK_WINDOW (toplevel));
  else
return gtk_window_get_group (NULL);

At the time of gtk_grab_add (called from gtk_cell_renderer_accel_start_editing
which is called from gtk_cell_renderer_start_editing) this widget had window =
0x0 and parent = 0x0
And at time of gtk_grab_remove (called from
gtk_cell_editable_event_box_key_press_event) same widget had window =
0x55e507e0 (parent = 0x55e183f0) which leads to incorrect
deregistration of the grab.

Parent of the widget was changed by
gtk_tree_view_multipress_gesture_pressed -> .. ->
gtk_cell_area_activate_cell -> gtk_cell_area_add_editable -> ..signal..
-> gtk_tree_view_column_add_editable_callback ->
_gtk_tree_view_add_editable -> gtk_tree_view_put ->
gtk_widget_set_parent

So, gtk_cell_area_activate_cell of gtk+3 (3.22.7) has some kind of incorrect
ordering of actions which broke gtk_grab_add / gtk_grab_remove pair
https://github.com/GNOME/gtk/blob/6cc08d60efeb02afc0d67982c3dc205dfd16d7cd/gtk/gtkcellarea.c#L3388

3428 gtk_cell_renderer_start_editing (renderer,
...
3444 gtk_cell_area_add_editable (area, priv->focus_cell, editable_widget,
cell_area);

(There was also quick and probably incorrect fix in Bug #1667227 for
this use-after-free with additional removing of grab from
gtk_window_get_group (NULL)
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/308873213/lp1667227_quick_fix_gtk_grab_remove.gtk+3.22.8.patch
)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1754646] Re: Texts in the dialogues are faulty on alternate installer

2018-04-14 Thread Jb
I do not speak/read Swedish.

But this shows up right after picking "Svenska" and selecting
"Installera Lubuntu". The very next prompt has the "" text in the
installer and it happens 100% of the time.

Den valda platsen kommer att

Note: I do not speak Swedish...nor do I have a Swedish keyboard. So
after selecting "Svenska" I pressed F3 and set it to "Canada" so that my
keyboard allows me to type the underscore character.

I'm booting in legacy mode so this tweak gets more debug info:
- press F6 to get additional options
- hit escape at the pop-up, and then pressed the left arrow three times so the
cursor is positioned in front of the "---" in the boot command line.
- added this to the boot options: DEBCONF_DEBUG=developer DEBCONF_C_VALUES=true
- add an extra space after =true
- hit enter to start the install.

Similar trick works in UEFI mode, just hit "e" to edit the command line,
etc.

When I see the onscreen I switched to an alternate console
(control-alt-f2) and hit enter to activate the console:

tail -n 50 /var/log/syslog | more

It's choking on debconf string: localechooser/shortlist TXT2

"Den valda platsen kommer att " the next word in this string is
"anvandas" (with the second a having the umlaut double-dots on top).

I am troubleshooting this further, but hope it helps those who do.

Lubuntu's alternate installer has a problem.

The texts in the dialogue in Swedish is faulty (in several but not all
dialogue boxes). I have to guess based on my memory from earlier
installations. This must be fixed before the final release.

Anyway, I was able to install a system using the whole drive according
to the test case in the iso testing tracker. So it seems that the
(only?) problem here is how the texts in the dialogue are managed.

This bug affects Lubuntu alternate Bionic beta 1.

I installed Lubuntu in my Toshiba laptop (on bare metal),

The texts in the dialogue in Swedish is faulty (in several but not all
dialogue boxes). I have to guess based on my memory from earlier
installations. This must be fixed before the final release.

Anyway, I was able to install a system using the whole drive according
to the test case in the iso testing tracker. So it seems that the
(only?) problem here is how the texts in the dialogue are managed.

This bug affects Lubuntu alternate Bionic beta 1.

I installed Lubuntu in my Toshiba laptop (on bare metal),

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1763988] Re: package slapd 2.4.31-1+nmu2ubuntu8.2 failed to install/upgrade: underprosessen nytt pre-installation-skript returnerte feilstatus 1

2018-04-14 Thread Ryan Tandy
The slapd upgrade failed, because:

  Dumping to /var/backups/slapd-2.4.31-1+nmu2ubuntu8.2:
  - directory dc=testlab,dc=dev...
5ad25c38 ldif_read_file: checksum error on "/etc/ldap/slapd.d/cn=config.ldif"
5ad25c39 hdb_db_open: database "dc=testlab,dc=dev":
db_open(/var/lib/ldap/id2entry.bdb) failed: No such file or directory (2).
5ad25c39 backend_startup_one (type=hdb, suffix="dc=testlab,dc=dev"): bi_db_open
failed! (2)

That doesn't look like the package's fault. We can't upgrade the
database if the files are missing... Was slapd actually working before
you started this upgrade?

The flickering does not happen if I bypass the Avocent SV340D KVM and
plug directly into the monitor. Any thoughts as to why this would
happen?

DP1.2 enabled and is daisy-chainged to another Dell U2415 (DP1.2
disabled on the second monitor as per Dell instructions).

I am getting flickering whereby randomly display1 or display2 turn
black and then back on again. When I disable DP1.2 on the display1,
and therefore get a duplicate display (as opposed to extended) on
display2, I get no flickering at all.

The same setup yields no flickering when running from a Windows 10
box, so don't think it is the monitors.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1763975] Re: DP1.2 daisy-chain flickering

2018-04-14 Thread Stuart
** Description changed:

  Hi all,

  I have a NUC7i7BNH with the latest BIOS (0062) running Ubuntu 18.04
  (uname -r = 4.15.0-15-generic). I have the NUC connected via USB-C to
- DisplayPort on a Dell U2414 which has DP1.2 enabled and is daisy-
- chainged to another Dell U2414 (DP1.2 disabled on the second monitor as
- per Dell instructions).
+ DisplayPort, to an Avocent SV340D KVM, then to a Dell U2415 which has
+ DP1.2 enabled and is daisy-chainged to another Dell U2415 (DP1.2
+ disabled on the second monitor as per Dell instructions).

I am getting flickering whereby randomly display1 or display2 turn black
and then back on again. When I disable DP1.2 on the display1, and
therefore get a duplicate display (as opposed to extended) on display2,
I get no flickering at all.

The same setup yields no flickering when running from a Windows 10 box,
so don't think it is the monitors.

Hi daniel,

I wasn't able to reproduce with 16.04. Did you install the regular
Ubuntu desktop, or a specific flavour?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1763940] [NEW] Pressing Print Screen in keyboard makes Rhythmbox go to sleep

2018-04-14 Thread Amr Ibrahim
Public bug reported:

Steps:

1. Start Rhythmbox and play music
2. Press Print Screen in keyboard
3. Music stops and cannot be played again in Rhythmbox
4. If the music does not stop from the first time try step 2 again and again
until it stops

I can navigate the UI of Rhythmbox, but I cannot play music. I have to
kill the sleeping process in order to play music.

I can reproduce this bug in Totem and Clementine too.

Title:
avahi daemon erroneously assumes host name conflicts (and causes more
  trouble then)

Status in Avahi:
  Fix Released
Status in avahi package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hi,

i am running the server edition of Ubuntu LTS on a HP Proliant server.
That avahi daemon is driving me crazy.

The server is named Server1 , retrieves it's IP address
pseudostatically from a DHCP server, and announces several of its
services through avahi (e.g. offering print services to iPads, that's
  why Avahi is needed).

every now and then (not always) avahi daemon claims to have detected a
name collision at boot time. It then logs

  Aug 22 13:09:40 Server1 avahi-daemon[1520]: Host name conflict,
  retrying with

and uses Server1-2 as it's name, causing even the DHCP-Server to apply

ssh-askpass has no Option to save the Passphrase to a keyring

Status in openssh package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: ssh-askpass-gnome

When Ssh-askpass asks for a pass phrase to a ssh-key on previews
releases, there was a checkbox for saving the pass phrase in the
keyring and lock it up when logging in. Under Jaunty (with ssh-
askpass-gnome version 1:5.1p1-5ubuntu1) this Option is no longer
available, so there is no possibility to get new pass phrases into the
  keyring.
