Status in xserver-xorg-video-nouveau package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I'm using Bionic with the new 4.15 kernel. I've been using the
nvidia-384 driver with no problem for a while. Today I issued "sudo
apt-get upgrade" and I was prompted to upgrade the nvidia driver to
the nvidia-390. After installing the driver and rebooting, I was only
able to boot in to the tty terminal. The graphical display failed to
boot. I have had similar problems with nvidia driver version 390 with
Arch Linux and with Open Suse Tumbleweed.

I'm not sure it is the cause of my problems, but there is at least a
problem with apparmor's configuration in Ubuntu 17.10

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1777296] [NEW] Synaptic scrollbar does not work properly

2018-06-16 Thread C. Jeffery Small
Public bug reported:

Xubuntu 18.04
Synaptic 0.84.3

Many years ago this problem was reported and it still has not been
addressed.

The main scrollbar works opposite of almost all other scrollbars
everywhere. If you B1 click in the scrollbar gutter (i.e., above or
below the movable bar), the contents jumps to the current mouse
position. If you B2 click in the gutter, the contents scrolls a page at
a time. This B1 and B2 behavior should be flipped to agree with the
world and make a predictable product.

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

remember terminology. Problems started with specialized downloads.
Sound recorder(bad)sound converter, pixel swapper, great apps. I was
thinking my att router has been compromised via win 10 updates..

Status in gcc-4.8 package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Ubuntu 14.04 over a year using with all updates worked great, then the
  Libre Office Writer went fooey,several re-installs,fixed.Then, I
thought all my photos were getting shared live maybe via Libre Ofiice
  app

Then Firefox sync caused me a lot of grief when I installed it on
two win10 desktops with Sync Not syncing now tho.

I swapped the mouse, which doesn't want to function well. Got firefox
straight maybe, then Ubuntu started hanging on restart or shut down. I
tried running a boot repair, it said my registry was missing. I tried
for a clean install, but I think all it did was add a copy. No
  reinstall would shut down.Tried a different version,same problem. I
have an att router & have been installing updates et al, on 2 other
desktops. As soon as I get a Win 10 going, something seems to stop
working on Ubuntu. I prefer Ubuntu for multiple reasons. Win 10 seems
to be a barebones with a big buynow catalog or surf the win10 web.
However, it has a working Sound recorder, & AIO dell usb XP
  printer,fax etc.

Also, I have a Nook reader with lots of apps I don't use. I've
started using the OverDrive only app, as the google library
chromeconnection kept me confused. added new windows, froze books, etc.
It is wifi which I leave on continuously.

I just learned Sudo init O. Used it one time. Worked fine. These
"bugs" seem to be attempts to wreak havoc, I have copies of my
files/photos on DVD, which I download to desktop when I re-install.

So sorry. I break things worse trying to repair them many times, but
I'm experienced at starting over, just don't like to. I am trying to
avoid wiping the hd, reformatting, etc. Very time consuming for a
little old lady pushing 70. Time is precious, but so is money, lol, so
I do it myself. This bug reequest popped up, so maybe you can connect
something from others with similar occurances.

Title:
wireless hardblocked and wireless enable button not functional

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete
Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Laptop is an HP Pavilion dm4-3170se. Dual booting Windows 7 and
ubuntu. In Windows, system boots with wireless disabled and then
pressing the wireless enable button twice enables WiFi.

In ubuntu, system boots with wireless disabled and wireless enable
button has no functionality either directly or in combination with the
  fn-key.

Module hp_wmi may be the culprit? But disabling this has no effect on
  hardblock.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1777257] [NEW] Dell Inspiron 17r 5737 Ubuntu 18.04 Video Looks Very Strange

2018-06-16 Thread Merlin
Public bug reported:

When booting 18.04 on my Dell 5737 I am greeted with an image like the
attached. The colours are clearly incorrect and the display looks to be
of low resolution. This is true whether booting from a fresh
distribution copy on a memory stick or the subsequent patched install.
The image on an external monitor appears unaffected.

This looks like a reappearance of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1300349 and
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2204287 Someone else appears
to have the same issue on a similar machine:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1036968/no-red-color-on-screen-after-
installing-18-04-on-dell-inspiron-3737/1047143#1047143

Adding "nomodeset" does make the machine usable but obviously isn't
ideal.

"lsb_release -rd" gives Ubuntu 18.04 LTS release 18.04.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: "Result of booking from 18.04 distribution "try without
installing"."

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1754294] Re: After last updated libcurl3 on libcurl4, some apps are removed.

2018-06-16 Thread Shriram
** Description changed:

  Hi!

After last updated libcurl3 on libcurl4, system (Kubuntu 18.04 bionic)
deleted such applications as:
  virtualbox-5.2
  opera-stable
  slack-desktop
+ mongodb

I really need these applications, I installed them with broken
dependencies, but they are deleted after each update. Is it possible to
make the dependence of the libcurl3 in libcurl4, and not remove it
  altogether from system?

[Realtek ALC1220 ASUS PRIME X370] Recording is very slow and plays 10x

  Recording applications (audacity, arecord, gnome-sound-recorder)
record extremely slowly (at what seems to be 0,1x speed), which means
that at playback the sound is played at a very high pitch and much
  faster than the original.

To help you understand the issue, I've attached an archive containing two
files recorded at the same time, one with arecord -f cd and the other with a
stand-alone Olympus recorder.
A video of Audacity's behavior when trying to record is also available:
https://youtu.be/Fe20eQNvZVA
Look at the seconds hand of the xclock and how much it is moving before
Audacity is done recording one second of audio.

  Things I've already tried:
  *  Purging and reinstalling Audacity
  * Purging and reinstalling Pulseaudio following the guide on the Ubuntu Wiki
  * Running audacity with this command: Exec=env PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30
audacity as suggested on AskUbuntu
  * Reinstalling Ubuntu on a new hard disk
  * Running audacity on a live CD (in Ubuntu version 16.04.3, 17.10.1, 18.04
daily and Xubuntu 17.10.1, 18.04)

The machine is a Ryzen 5 1600 with an ASUS X370 Prime motherboard.

The problem can be reproduced as follows:

  * Boot a live DVD of Ubuntu/Xubuntu 16.04.3, 17.10.1, 18.04 (versions I've
tested with)
  * Install audacity via the terminal
  * Start recording, microphone is connected to the rear microphone jack.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1771102] Re: 17.10->18.04 LTS hangs, CPU stalls in apt-pkg cache

2018-06-16 Thread Alexander Sack
Brian, I'm sorry but I had to upgrade to 18.04 LTS by reinstalling the
whole system. No idea why apt-clone would hang like that but it seems to
definitely be a bug.

Looking at this further, it seems that the installer sets the the
"rootdir=/" when it initiates the python-apt's Cache class. This
hangs. I can reproduce this by simply changing it's test code to pass
rootdir="/" and it hangs. It sorta smells like a deadlock issue though
deep in the C++ module (apt_pkg) that backs the python one (GetLock?).
  But I'm not 100% sure.

This behavior is seen on my 32-core Threadripper machine (AMD64).

  This is 17.10 latest with:

Title:
[Realtek ALC1220 ASUS PRIME X370] Recording is very slow and plays 10x
  faster

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

  *  Purging and reinstalling Audacity
  * Running audacity on a live CD (in Ubuntu version 16.04.3, 17.10.1, 18.04
daily and Xubuntu 17.10.1, 18.04 daily)

The machine is a Ryzen 5 1600 with an ASUS X370 Prime motherboard.

The problem can be reproduced as follows:

  * Boot a live DVD of Ubuntu/Xubuntu 16.04.3, 17.10.1, 18.04 daily (versions
I've tested with)
  * Install audacity via the terminal
  * Start recording, microphone is connected to the rear microphone jack.
