  So this one ist for the (Nr.2) System-(Freeze)-Crash with Stripes-Screen

  I later found out, that one Day before, the following Auto-Updates had been
installed:

  libcurl3-gnutls(7.47.0-1ubuntu2.1, 7.47.0-1ubuntu2.2)

  => Did NOT work
  ---
  Only Thing that helped was:
  ---
  > sudo apt purge nvidia-*

  => (nouveau-Driver was automatically installed)
  => Auto-Login to Desktop

  But then there was a second Problem:

  When > starting Thunderbird, mostly at once, sometimes after > opening some
E-Mail-Windows, another Error occurred:
  => System freeze for 3 Seconds, then Screen turned to Stripes-Wallpaper =>
Total (Freeze-)Crash
  --
  Later, even with DISabled Hardware-Acceleration, starting both, Firefox and
Thunderbird led to the System-Crash.
  (Sometimes, the System with nouveau booted and auto-logined into a Black

be rebooted normally.)

  Because this is far more stable:
  Changed Standard-Boot in Grub-2 to UpStart instead of SystemD

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1792745] Re: NetworkManager crashed with SIGSEGV in _int_malloc()

2018-09-15 Thread Anders Kaseorg
It seems suspicious that cb_data->concheck.curl_ehandle is cleaned up
here despite the comment a few lines above warning that it’s unsafe to
do so.

https://github.com/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/blob/1.12.2/src/nm-
connectivity.c#L190-L213

/* Contrary to what cURL manual claim it is *not* safe to remove
 * the easy handle "at any moment"; specifically not from the
 * write function. Thus here we just dissociate the cb_data from
 * the easy handle and the easy handle will be cleaned up when
the
 * message goes to CURLMSG_DONE in
_con_curl_check_connectivity(). */
…
curl_multi_remove_handle (priv->concheck.curl_mhandle,
cb_data->concheck.curl_ehandle);
curl_easy_cleanup (cb_data->concheck.curl_ehandle);

This cleanup call was added in
https://github.com/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/pull/70.  The comment
was moved by that PR but was present before.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1792745] Re: NetworkManager crashed with SIGSEGV in _int_malloc()

2018-09-15 Thread Anders Kaseorg
Here’s a valgrlind log showing many invalid writes to freed addresses in
cb_data_free → curl_multi_remove_handle and nm_connectivity_check_start
→ curl_multi_add_handle, which could explain the heap corruption.

** No longer affects: libsocialweb (Ubuntu)

   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Tags added: cosmic ftbfs

** Description changed:

  libgnome-keyring has been removed from Debian Testing and will not be
  included in the Debian 10 "Buster" release. We should do the same. Users
  who are hurt by these removals can keep using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS for a few
  years.

  This bug depends on the libgnome removal LP: #1771031

  ukui-power-manager is a blocker LP: #1767165

  mate-power-manager was fixed in Debian so presumably can be done in

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1691678] Re: Scrollbars escape the bottom and right side of the Terminal window by 1px

2018-09-15 Thread amano
Nope. Not completely sure, sorry. I didn't compile GNOME apps before, so
that would probably be a rather heavy task for me ;) I had a quick look
at the 3.30.0 source but couldn't even find out which lines were changed
by the Debian patch. Aren't the patches included within the source tar?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1773045] Re: Radiance/gtk-3.20/gtk-main.css attempts to import nonexistent gnome-builder.css

2018-09-15 Thread Edward H. Welbon
I notice this happening in upgrades that relate to gtk-main.css. It
might be worth looking at the history of changes to understand the
change causing this to come in. If the line is not needed it should be
deleted not because it is clearly harmful in some specific context so
much as it is rather visible.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1780332] Re: vaultlocker does not ensure that udev is triggered to create /dev/disk/by-uuid/ symlink and fails

2018-09-15 Thread Dmitrii Shcherbakov
asi,

Thanks for the guidance.

Attached some outputs.

> Look for "dmsetup udevcomplete" call in udev rules.

ubuntu@maas-vhost6:/lib/udev/rules.d$ grep -RiP udevcomplete
55-dm.rules:ENV{DM_COOKIE}=="?*", RUN+="/sbin/dmsetup udevcomplete
$env{DM_COOKIE}"

> Sometimes it is hidden by the fact that libdevampper could fallback to device
> internal nodes creation because it verifies that udev nodes were created (the
> old way used when you compile it without udev support).

At least I can see that it is not disabled explicitly for xenial in the
build scripts:

https://git.launchpad.net/~usd-import-
team/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/tree/configure?h=ubuntu/xenial-
updates#n15870

# Check whether --enable-udev was given.
if test "${enable_udev+set}" = set; then :
  enableval=$enable_udev;
else
  enable_udev=yes
fi

https://git.launchpad.net/~usd-import-
team/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/tree/debian/rules?h=ubuntu/xenial-
updates#n43

> This must be the last call in udev chain rules related to device-mapper
> devices. (Run cryptsetup with --debug and you will see that sync point.)

Do you remember anything specific? I do not see anything above this

# Key length 32, device size 16777216 sectors, header size 2050 sectors.
# Releasing crypt device /dev/sdb context.
# Releasing device-mapper backend.
# Unlocking memory.
Command successful.
14:09:07.630619660

in the attached output that would definitively resemble a sync point
("Releasing context..." could be it but I am not sure without looking at
the code).

  vaultlocker does not ensure that udev is triggered to create /dev/disk

Status in vaultlocker:

Bug description:
  When an encrypted device is setup up a UUID (osd_fsid) is passed from
  the charm to be used in the cryptsetup command which accepts a UUID to
  place into the LUKS header (shown in cryptsetup luksDump ).

https://github.com/openstack/charm-ceph-osd/blob/stable/18.05/lib/ceph/utils.py#L1788-L1804

  UUID comes from osd_fsid

https://github.com/openstack-charmers/vaultlocker/blob/8c9cb85dc3ed5dbf18c66a810d189a5230d85c34/vaultlocker/shell.py#L69-L80
  # else statement is used here
   block_uuid = str(uuid.uuid4()) if not args.uuid else args.uuid

   dmcrypt.luks_format(key, block_device, block_uuid) # creates a LUKS
header
  # ...
   dmcrypt.luks_open(key, block_uuid) # sets up a device with device mapper
decrypting it via dmcrypt

  https://github.com/openstack-

charmers/vaultlocker/blob/d813233179bdf2eec8ed101c702a8e552a966f44/vaultlocker/dmcrypt.py#L44-L56

  This UUID is visible in blkid output

  /dev/sdc: UUID="" TYPE="crypto_LUKS"

  and a udev rule exists to create a /dev/disk/by-uuid/ symlink (which is normally used for filesystem -> block device
  resolution)

https://git.launchpad.net/~usd-import-team/ubuntu/+source/lvm2/tree/udev/13-dm-disk.rules.in#n25
  ENV{ID_FS_USAGE}=="filesystem|other|crypto", ENV{ID_FS_UUID_ENC}=="?*",
SYMLINK+="disk/by-uuid/$env{ID_FS_UUID_ENC}"

  Where vaultlocker fails is in luks_open command (right after luks_format)

   # cryptsetup --batch-mode --key-file - open UUID=
  crypt- --type luks

  because it tries to access /dev/disk/by-uuid/ which
  does not exist.

  This happens since udev rules are not re-triggered to create this
  symlink after a LUKS device is created.

  Solution: call the command below after luks_format before luks_open

  udevadm settle --exit-if-exists=/dev/disk/by-uuid/

Title:
  Video acceleration regression for Radeon Xpress 200M (r300) in xorg-
  lts-xenial & xorg-lts-wily

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  After updating the Ubuntu HWE stack in 14.04 to Xenial (kernel 4.4 and
  xserver-xorg-video-radeon-lts-xenial), system boots up fine and
  responsively, but screen is laggy; there is a tremendous performance
  regression in comparison to xorg-lts-vivid. Lots of video tearing that
  did not occur when using xserver-xorg-video-radeon-lts-vivid.

  System is an older Pentium laptop (Packard Bell EasyNote) with a Radeon
Xpress 200M chip (r300 driver). Video acceleration was working with DRI2 under
the Vivid stack (kernel 3.19-64-lowlatency +
xserver-xorg-video-radeon-lts-vivid).
  I also tried upgrading to the Wily kernel (4.2.0-lowlatency), and video
acceleration works fine with the Vivid xorg.

  I reported this in launchpad previously, and it was dismissed as "invalid"
since Wily is EOL.
  The problem, however, persists in the Xenial stack, so I'm reporting it here.

  Attached are the respective Xorg.0 logs.

Title:
  Running update-initramfs -u on a kernel causes micro freezes in gnome-
  shell

Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  When kernels are installed, or when update-initramfs -u is run on a
  kernel, it causes gnome-shell to freeze for a few seconds if the
  machine is booted with that kernel or a newly installed kernel. During
  the freezes, the mouse pointer is still movable but the rest of the
  screen freezes. Any clicks get ignored and keyboard input is buffered
  then executed once the freeze is over. Please fix this as it is a big
  time productivity kller. THis is happening on my zenbook pro with
  nvidia graphics.
