I fix the problem with this approach: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1759836/comments/70 from "Florian Dittmer (fd81)" " Following the instructions mentioned by one user in the comments helped me to solve the cpu load issue with udev-239 and kernel 4.18.17, while Bluetooth still works. Run the following command: /lib/systemd/systemd-udevd -D This should print garbage in endless loop containing ".../97-hid2hci.rules:" If so, edit /lib/udev/rules.d/97-hid2hci.rules and add ACTION=="add", in front of line mentioned by above command. In my case, I had to change the following lines in 97-hid2hci.rules from: ATTR{bInterfaceClass}=="03", ATTR{bInterfaceSubClass}=="01", ATTR{bInterfaceProtocol}=="02", \ ATTRS{bDeviceClass}=="00", ATTRS{idVendor}=="413c", ATTRS{bmAttributes}=="e0", \ RUN+="hid2hci --method=dell --devpath=%p", ENV{HID2HCI_SWITCH}="1" to: ACTION=="add", ATTR{bInterfaceClass}=="03", ATTR{bInterfaceSubClass}=="01", ATTR{bInterfaceProtocol}=="02", \ ATTRS{bDeviceClass}=="00", ATTRS{idVendor}=="413c", ATTRS{bmAttributes}=="e0", \ RUN+="hid2hci --method=dell --devpath=%p", ENV{HID2HCI_SWITCH}="1" And this fixed the issue (after reboot). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1759836]
An update: The problem I reported in January went away on its own after a few weeks of having the problem every single day when I booted each morning. I was installing Ubuntu software updates when they became available during that time. There is something going on during boot that causes this problem. "my speculation" is that I suspect a timing issue with the way things are initialized during boot up that leads to the problem. Some strange timing issue is occurring which causes systemd-udevd to fall into an infinite loop (continuously looking for something or to be notified about an action completion) and drive one of the processor cores to 100%. When a new kernel was installed or something was done to change initialization activity during boot the problem went away because the timing problem that created it was changed. I believe that some kind of race condition may be at the root of the problem. >From my earlier search on the problem symptoms, it seems that when systemd-udevd isn't working correctly you can get numerous confusing symptoms that mysteriously go away when the something changes timing conditions during boot. Since the problem is in the kernel then it effects other systems besides Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1759836 Title: systemd-udevd consumes 100% of CPU Status in linux: Confirmed Status in The Ubuntu Power Consumption Project: New Status in bluez package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The systemd-udevd proccess consumes 100% of a thread everytime, but i'm not noticing any difference in my computer. Private bug reported: [Impact] I am working with several programs at the same time. Like the web browser, Transmission, and others. And it has happened to me twice today. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1824661] [NEW] Nvidia issues with 19.04 and XPS 15 9750 GTX 1050 Ti Mobile
Public bug reported: Hello. I am having issues consistently with this laptop and the Nvidia drivers in 19.04. I have tested this on Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, and Ubuntu MATE. This is with both the recommended 418 driver as well as 390. Today I tried installing the latest daily of Ubuntu MATE with the proprietary driver option on my Dell XPS 15 9570 with Nvidia GP107M (GeForce GRX 1050 Time Mobile). Boots to blank screen that flashes a couple times. Can't get to tty. Reboot, editing grub to include nomodeset. Boots to underscore character in the top left. [Original Bug Text] When using unattended-upgrades with "InstallOnShutdown" on Bionic, the package installation on various packages hangs until the systemd ShutdownTimeout (30min) is expired and systemd kills all processes and powers off/reboots the system. This leaves packages in an unconfigured, broken state. At least sometimes this cannot be fixed with a "dpkg --configure -a", but instead requires the user to manually reinstall the package that caused the hang. This appears to be a deadlock, because the hanging commands are always "systemctl stop ..." or "systemctl restart ...", etc.. If I understand this correctly, those systemctl commands block because systemd tries to shutdown the system and tries to satisfy all dependencies for the shutdown targets before those systemctl commands could get executed, which creates a deadlock. Steps to reproduce: - Install 18.04 - activate "InstallOnShutdown" in /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades - disable bionic-updates in /etc/apt/sources.list (more on that later) - execute "unattended-upgrade --download-only" - reboot the system

The fix is already found/part of Debian and Disco. [Pending SRU] All regressions found in Bionic and Cosmic looks like long standing ADT failure. Nothing has been introduce by this particular SRU. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1763520] Re: after upgrade to bionic, printing fails without explanation / logs / debuggability
** Tags removed: patch-forwarded-upstream ** Tags added: patch-accepted-upstream -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1763520 Title: after upgrade to bionic, printing fails without explanation / logs / debuggability Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in gtk+3.0 source package in Bionic: In Progress Status in gtk+3.0 source package in Cosmic: In Progress Bug description: [Impact] The problem occurs when the printer's driver package is updated and with this the PPD is replaced and one of the default settings of the queue is not available any more in the new PPD file. Then the setting is prefixed with "Custom." and with this the jobs fail. See comment #15 for more info. [Test Case] - Create a print queue with a PPD. - evince an arbitrary PDF file - Click the print icon - In the print dialog choose the newly created queue and choose some uncommon paper size (not custom). Click "Print". - Check /var/log/cups/error_log, the page size gets correctly received. - Close evince. - Stop CUPS, edit the PPD file removing the paper size you have selected for your job in the PageSize, PageRegion, PaperDimension, and ImageableArea lines. - Start CUPS. - Open the same PDF file again with evince, click Print and then select "Print" in the print dialog without changing anything. - The job fails, in /var/log/cups/error_log you see that the page size is prefixed with "Custom.". With the fixed package installed the job will print. [Regression Potential] The change applies only to saved settings of the print dialog not matching with any of the settings available in the PPD file. In rare cases the fix could fail by mis-understanding the setting and this way not being effective. For options which do not support setting custom values (the vast majority) the patch should always prevent a job failure though. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1824647] [NEW] Recurrent, annoying clicking sound but not showing any notifications
Public bug reported: About two weeks ago, my computer began to make a recurrent, irregular, clicking noise every few seconds. It occurs regardless if the computer is running on battery or electrical outlet. There are no notifications associated with this clicking noise. Changing the notifications section in systems does not stop this annoying clicking noise. This noise continues even when all browsers are shut off. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1823550] Re: GtkSourceView wrongly has monospaced font in dropdown (context) menu
In lp: #1242984 light theme is already using (see https://code.launchpad.net/~larsu/ubuntu-themes/gedit- fixes/+merge/201212) .context-menu { font: regular medium;} not sure why it is not working.
