[Touch-packages] [Bug 1828657] [NEW] Slow resume after lid close/open
Public bug reported: Summary 1.) Release Info: Description: Ubuntu 19.04 Release:19.04 2.) Package version: linux-image-5.0.0-13-generic 3.) Expected behavior: Computer resumes shortly after opening lid. 4.) Actual behavior: Computer takes ~2 minutes to resume after opening lid. I have installed Ubuntu 19.04 (Disco Dingo) on my Lenovo Flex 6-11IGM. I found that when it resumes from sleep after opening the lid, it takes a long time to resume (~2 minutes). While experimenting with the upstream kernel releases, I found that the problem was introduced with version 5.0.5 version of the Linux kernel; the problem does not occur when I run version 5.0.4. I've narrowed the culprit down to the following commit in the upstream kernel: a57af6d07... ALSA: hda - Enforces runtime_resume after S3 and S4 for each codec This change was applied to the ubuntu kernel with commit 9c51afaceb61459d2becac8fb32c860bb084e643. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1828649] [NEW] Wayland freeze
Public bug reported: When I switch to wayland the gnome desktop locks up before I see my desktop. It doesn't lock up when I have my laptop closed and only one display connected. When I connect up the second display, it locks up every time. I tried deleting my monitors.xml file.. that doesn't make any difference. I was able to get it to work by connecting one display via DisplayPort. When I connect the second display, via active HDMI to DisplayPort on dock, it doesn't work if I select Wayland. This wire configuration works fine with Xorg. Additionally, when I lift my laptop screen, one of my monitors goes out and re-enabling it causes another to go off. Linux kernel is not smart enough to drive the 3 displays. I am able to drive two monitors and have my laptop screen open in Windows just fine. Of importance is that my DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor is ACTIVE. If I was to use a PASSIVE adaptor, I cannot drive two external displays and the laptop display. With my laptop screen closed, I was able to drive both displays in Wayland just fine in 18.10 so this is a regression. [Touch-packages] [Bug 520546] Re: Alt+KEY incorrectly behaves like Ctrl+Alt+KEY, and/or unwanted VT switch from Alt+Left/Right
This bug was fixed in the package kbd - 2.0.4-4ubuntu2 --- kbd (2.0.4-4ubuntu2) eoan; urgency=medium * kbd_mode: Add -f option and don't perform dangerous mode switches without it. [Touch-packages] [Bug 645404] Re: Support Private PPAs
one note to mention on changing software-properties over to using launchpadlib for lp logins; launchpadlib will create cache files in ~ and when running as sudo ~ isn't changed (without -i or -H). This results in bug 1828208 launchpadlib is not the only thing to suffer from this feature of sudo; I'm going to start an email list discussion about ubuntu's handling of $HOME under sudo. for now, if testing with my ppa build, add-apt-repository should be run with 'sudo -H' (or sudo -i), and it has a temporary check to prevent running under plain 'sudo'. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to software-properties in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/645404 Title: Support Private PPAs Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in software-properties source package in Bionic: In Progress Status in software-properties source package in Cosmic: In Progress Status in software-properties source package in Disco: In Progress Status in software-properties source package in Eoan: In Progress Bug description: Software properties add-apt-repository currently does not support adding private PPAs. software-properties should connect to the API and observe that it gets permission denied trying to read the ppa. targeted to b/c/d/e, although all my initial work is on e only. [Test case] 1. Install Ubuntu 2. Check touchpad works or not 3. Install the fixed kmod package 4. Confirm touchpad works [Regression Potential] i2c-i801 was blacklisted due to bug 16602. The user complains an HP Compaq nc6000 notebook cannot suspend without blacklisting i2c-i801. While this is a way to workaround the suspend issue, the proper fix should be in linux kernel. Since nc6000 was a machine sold in 2004, it is too difficult to find someone to verify if it will regress due to this SRU. The rationale to blacklist it is: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/hotplug/+bug/16602/comments/5, however it is no longer valid nowadays on modern computers. Besides, there look like to be a quirk in linux kernel that fixes it: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blame/master/drivers/pci/quirks.c#L1434 [Other Info] rationale of i2c_i801 driver blacklist: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kmod/+question/269329 --- Original bug report: We have a Lenovo Thinkpad machine that requires i2c-i801 kernel module to work, but it is listed in /etc/modprobe/blacklist.conf in Ubuntu. To use the touchpad, users have to remove the i2c-i801 line manually. i2c-i801 in blacklist.conf is a very old workaround to fix HP compaq nc6000 (Bug #16602), this module should be removed from blacklist. Some comments on the autopkgtest regressions: # Disco - prometheus-blackbox-exporter and open-isns fail due to package dependency problems, unrelated to debconf - makedumpfile fails with "sudo: /tmp/autopkgtest-run-wrapper: command not found", which has happened in other previous autopkgtests (perl/5.28.1-6, file/1:5.35-4, elfutils/0.176-1). This does not seem to be related to the debconf update # Cosmic - murano seems to fail due to a syntax error in python3-murano, preventing dpkg from successfully configuring it. It has been failing since before the debconf change was introduced - cacti fails due to "ERROR PHP WARNING: A non-numeric value encountered in file: /usr/share/cacti/site/poller.php on line: 652", which is not related to the debconf changes - pbuilder is failing due to a missing Eoan script, might be related to LP: #1825994 - glibc fails due to a timeout on the test suite, and doesn't look related to our debconf changes # Bionic - pbuilder is still failing due to a missing Eoan script, might be related to LP: #1825994 - redmine is failing due to not being able to pull some packages for the test setup - makedumpfile has been failing since before the debconf changes with "makedumpfile: ERROR: crash test: kdump is not ready" - cacti fails due to "Unexpected output in /var/log/cacti/cacti.log: 05/08/2019 19:45:00 - AUTOM8 WARNING: The Network ID: 1 is disabled. You must use the 'force' option to force it's execution." - open-iscsi is failing since debconf/1.5.66, so it doesn't look to be caused by our changes ** Tags removed: verification-needed ** Tags added: verification-done -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to debconf in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1822270 Title: Debconf readline frontend does not show options Status in debconf package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in debconf source package in Xenial: Fix Committed Status in debconf source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in debconf source package in Cosmic: Fix Committed Status in debconf source package in Disco: Fix Committed Status in debconf source package in Eoan: Fix Released Status in debconf package in Debian: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] debconf prompts the user for input before displaying options [Description] When upgrading packages with apt or dpkg, debconf scripts are ran through 'run-parts' with the '--report' flag. This causes script output to be handled through pipes set up by run-parts, and buffers output from maintainer scripts nicely for formatting. If debconf makes use of the readline frontend, any prompts will bypass the run-parts buffers and be displayed directly to /dev/tty. This generally causes the prompt to be displayed before the user gets any of the available options for it, and printing will block until the user inputs a valid option. Upstream commit: https://salsa.debian.org/pkg- debconf/debconf/commit/48c5ce38cfd5 [Test Case] 1) Deploy a VM through e.g. uvt-kvm $ uvt-kvm create disco release=disco 2) Remove the whiptail package to force the readline frontend in debconf root@disco:~# apt remove --purge whiptail -y 3) Install grub-legacy-ec2 and prepare /boot/grub/menu.lst for an upgrade through run-parts root@disco:~# apt update && apt install -y grub-legacy-ec2 root@disco:~# rm -f /boot/grub/menu.lst* root@disco:~# touch -d "4 years ago" /boot/grub/menu.lst 4) Invoke run-parts as in a kernel upgrade (kernel version doesn't matter, we just need it to think menu.lst needs an upgrade) root@disco:~# run-parts --exit-on-error --arg=5.0.0 /etc/kernel/postinst.d --report ... /etc/kernel/postinst.d/x-grub-legacy-ec2: debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Dialog debconf: (No usable dialog-like program is installed, so the dialog based frontend cannot be used. at /usr/share/perl5/Debconf/FrontEnd/Dialog.pm line 76.) debconf: falling back to frontend: Readline Searching for GRUB installation directory ... found: /boot/grub Searching for default file ... found: /boot/grub/default Testing for an existing GRUB menu.lst file ... found: /boot/grub/menu.lst Searching for splash image ... none found, skipping ... What would you like to do about menu.lst? The "What would you like to do about menu.lst?" prompt will block until the user enter a valid option, even though it's being displayed before the available options. [Regression Potential] We could hit regressions if changing debconf's printing to /dev/tty is expected by other programs. The changes are needed only in the readline frontend, so that would minimize impact of any possible regressions. The fixes will be thoroughly tested with autopkgtest and use-case scenarios. # # # # [Original Description] When upgrading the kernel on a recent Bionic minimal image, the user is prompted to resolve a conflict in the file /boot/grub/me

[Touch-packages] [Bug 520546] Re: Alt+KEY incorrectly behaves like Ctrl+Alt+KEY, and/or unwanted VT switch from Alt+Left/Right
** Description changed: + (kbd) + [Impact] + + * kbd_mode -u is documented to break keyboards in modes other than xlate and unicode, while it is still called by some scripts. Those scripts are called transitively by maintainer scripts such as the one already fixed in console-setup. + * To avoid accidentally breaking keyboards a -f option is added to force such breaking mode changes. Without -f only the safe mode changes are performed and an error is printed when the requested mode change is not safe. Additionally, ensure the IP receiving the requests for the VPN name is indeed the IP address noted above for the VPN's DNS server. If you see no traffic showing in tcpdump output when requesting a name, it may be because it is cached by systemd-resolved. Use a different name you have not tried before. This patch disappeared in an update. I think it was present in 1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4 but was dropped some time later. This security bug exists upstream too: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746422 It's not a *regression* there though, as they didn't fix it yet (unfortunately!) [Test case] 1. Using anonymous bridges (ie: not attached to physical NICs) is problematic with systemd-networkd as they get deconfigured as soon as the last attached device disconnects (ie: a LXC container). Static IP configuration must be done again manually. The root cause is that systemd-networkd assumes that every network interface have a carrier signal. There's no notion of carrier signal on anonymous bridges, a case not properly handled by systemd-networkd. The systemd dev team provided a patch to address the issue and it would be nice to be integrated on the Ubuntu package. The PR is here : https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/93b4dab57e2e13bd804cbee999241be65a443e2e To get the proper fix, you'll need to combine 2 patches : - The one from the PR above - Another patch [1] which fixes a segfault introduced by the PR. [Touch-packages] [Bug 938751] Re: Images are washed out or colors are skewed in some apps
Indeed, I have suspected for a long time that the color correction is being applied twice. So the final result looks wrong in such apps. If that's true then we would probably want either to: (a) Not tell apps about the color profile at all, because it's already applied full screen; or (b) Tell apps what (if any) profile is already applied full screen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to colord in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/938751 Title: Images are washed out or colors are skewed in some apps Status in Eye of GNOME: New Status in chromium-browser package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in colord package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in eog package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Images are washed out or colors are skewed in some apps, notably Chrome/Chromium and Image Viewer (eog). [Touch-packages] [Bug 938751] Re: Images are washed out or colors are skewed in some apps
EOG also applies fullscreen profiles to image! Notice most of preinstalled color profiles in Settings->Devices->Color does not support whole screen correction (they are marked with bulb icon). So this is normal application behavior to apply system-wide color profile to image. But when fullscreen profile selected, it used firstly in EOG for certain image and secondly by the system for final correction. In my case screen has noticeable bluish cast, so ICC does significant color shift to compensate it. But when applied twice, it makes images yellowish in EOG. While Gimp and Shotwell display colors correctly. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1651923] Re: apt https method decodes redirect locations and sends them to the destination undecoded.
I still had the mscorefonts problem (errors in sourceforge mirrors) in 19.04. Found this workaround in #1655431. Quoting: Boris Rybalkin (ribalkin) wrote on 2017-11-26:#18 Was able to fix sf mirrors issue by replacing sf mirror with some github copy: sudo sed -i 's#http://downloads.sourceforge.net/corefonts#https://github.com/pushcx/corefonts/raw/master#g' /usr/share/package-data-downloads/ttf-mscorefonts-installer Then run: sudo /usr/lib/update-notifier/package-data-downloader All downloaded and good. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1651923 Title: apt https method decodes redirect locations and sends them to the destination undecoded. Status in apt package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in apt source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in apt source package in Yakkety: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] Downloads via HTTPS fail if the URL contains a space (before yakkety only if there is no redirect from a previous space-free https URL). This breaks packages like ttf-mscorefonts-installer and various third party hosters. [Test case] Install/Upgrade apt-transport-https, that's where the fix is. Check that /usr/lib/apt/apt-helper download-file http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/repo/pool/free/ardour4_4.7.0-1kxstudio1_i386.deb test.deb can successfully download the file (or at least start downloading it) and does not fail early with a 505 HTTP version not supported error message. This problem does not occur with that file on xenial, as it first redirects to an https URI without a space which then redirects to an HTTPS uri with a space (http w/o space -> https w/o space -> https w/ space). In xenial, https->https redirects where handled internally by curl. Another test (applicable to xenial) is to install ttf-mscorefonts- installer. [Regression potential] The added code is: Uri.Path = QuoteString(Uri.Path, "+~ "); Some servers might not like + or ~ being quoted. We use the same quoting call for the http method too, though, so it seems highly unlikely to cause an issue.
