** Tags removed: verification-done ** Tags added: verification-needed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to initramfs-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1778844 Title: nvme multipath does not report path relationships Status in The Ubuntu-power-systems project: Fix Committed Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in initramfs-tools source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in initramfs-tools source package in Cosmic: Fix Committed Status in initramfs-tools source package in Disco: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] initramfs created with MODULES=dep or kdump initrd won't boot a system with root filesystem on a multipath nvme. [Test case] Systems with nvme multipath were able to boot with the created initramfs. Also tested on systems with non-multipath nvme, and non nvme systems. In order to verify the fix, one needs to change MODULES option to dep on /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf, recreate initramfs and reboot, check the system has booted fine. That should not break on systems with non nvme disks or systems with non multipath nvme systems, and that should now work on multipath nvme systems. sed -i /MODULES=/s,=.*,=dep, /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf update-initramfs -u -k all reboot [Regression potential] A system could fail to boot because the generated initramfs was broken. The code should just add modules, which is safer than removing modules or doing any other changes. In any case, it was tested to boot on multipath nvme, non multipath nvme and non nvme systems. - Problem Description: === After triggering crash ,kdump is not working & system enters into initramfs state Steps to re-create: == >. woo is installed ubuntu180401 kernel root@woo:~# uname -a Linux woo 4.15.0-23-generic #25-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 23 17:59:00 UTC 2018 ppc64le ppc64le ppc64le GNU/Linux root@woo:~# >. The only real difference is in the amount of noise coming from the fan because of a slightly reduced CPU load due to Xorg. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1828617] Re: Hosts randomly 'losing' disks, breaking ceph-osd service enumeration
I'm seeing this in a slightly different manner, on Bionic/Queens. We have LVMs encrypted (thanks Vault), and rebooting a host results in at least one OSD not returning fairly consistently. The LVs appear in the list, however the difference between a working and a non-working OSD is the lack of links to block.db and block.wal on a non-working OSD. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1754671] Re: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression
On the 1.10.14 regression simply making those dns-priority/dns- search settings the *default* behaviour for a full-tunnel VPN would appear to be the correct thing to do (i.e. use the DNS of a full-tunnel VPN for *all* lookups), and I think it should resolve the problems people were seeing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1754671 Title: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression Status in NetworkManager: Fix Released Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in network-manager source package in Xenial: New Status in systemd source package in Xenial: Invalid Status in network-manager source package in Bionic: In Progress Status in systemd source package in Bionic: Triaged Bug description: [Impact] When using a VPN the DNS requests might still be sent to a DNS server outside the VPN when they should not [Test case] 1) Set up a VPN with split tunneling: a) Configure VPN normally (set up remote host, any ports and options needed for the VPN to work) b) Under the IPv4 tab: enable "Use this connection only for the resources on its network". c) Under the IPv6 tab: enable "Use this connection only for the resources on its network". 2) Connect to the VPN. 3) Run 'systemd-resolve --status'; note the DNS servers configured: a) For the VPN; under a separate link (probably tun0), note down the IP of the DNS server(s). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1754671] Re: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression
On the switch to using dnsmasq: that decision predates my tenure so I have limited visibility. I can try to get our IT team to expend effort in moving to systemd-resolved and see what breaks. It may even be completely unnecessary in xenial, and is merely inherited to make our bionic setups less different. I completely agree with the general observation that they should be filing bugs upstream and not working around them. But if I tell them that, I suspect they're going to point at this security regression in Xenial that still isn't fixed 14 months later, and tell me that working around things locally is much more effective. Right now, I don't know that I can tell them they're wrong. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1754671] Re: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression
> These systems are using dnsmasq not systemd-resolver. > This was done for historical reasons; I'm not sure of > the specific bug which caused that choice. NetworkManager in Ubuntu 16.04 and earlier defaulted to integrating with dnsmasq. But on 18.04 and later, this integration has been deliberately replaced with integration with systemd-resolved. If you are overriding this default integration to force the use of dnsmasq instead of systemd- resolved, that is likely not a supportable configuration. In contrast, any bug in the systemd-resolved integration in 18.04 that would force you to work around it by switching to dnsmasq is almost certainly an SRUable bug. If you can find the information about why you switched to dnsmasq, please report this as a bug against systemd (with 'ubuntu-bug systemd') and provide a link to the bug here.
This is Bionic. After last week's update to 1.10.14-0ubuntu2 all my VPN users (who are using dnsmasq) reported that DNS supported working for them while they were on the VPN. Some internal names were looked up correctly, others weren't. I resolved it for them as follows: $ sudo nmcli con modify "$COMPANY VPN" ipv4.dns-priority -1 ipv4.dns- search ~. This matches the observations I made in comment #18 on 2019-02-04. I believe that with 1.10.6 all $company.com DNS did get sent to the VPN and it was lookups outside the company search domains which were leaked. So it was mostly functional, but insecure. Since 1.10.14 it got worse and many (but not all) of the $company.com lookups are being leaked too. Which is a functional problem. (For Xenial, my advice to users has been the same since March 2018 when this ticket was first filed: tell apt to hold network-manager_1.2.2-0ubuntu0.16.04.4_amd64.deb and don't let it get updated until/unless the regression is fixed.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1754671 Title: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression Status in NetworkManager: Fix Released Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in network-manager source package in Xenial: New Status in systemd source package in Xenial: Invalid Status in network-manager source package in Bionic: Fix Released Status in systemd source package in Bionic: Triaged Bug description: [Impact] When using a VPN the DNS requests might still be sent to a DNS server outside the VPN when they should not [Test case] 1) Set up a VPN with split tunneling: a) Configure VPN normally (set up remote host, any ports and options needed for the VPN to work) b) Under the IPv4 tab: enable "Use this connection only for the resources on its network". c) Under the IPv6 tab: enable "Use this connection only for the resources on its network". 2) Connect to the VPN. 3) Run 'systemd-resolve --status'; note the DNS servers configured: a) For the VPN; under a separate link (probably tun0), note down the IP of the DNS server(s). Therefore I have now uploaded this version of systemd to my PPA: https://launchpad.net/~till-kamppeter/+archive/ubuntu/ppa Please follow this link, follow the instructions in the section "Adding this PPA to your system", then update your system with the command sudo apt dist-upgrade This will update only systemd as I did not upload any other package for Bionic to my PPA. Make also sure you have the update of network-manager (1.10.14-0ubuntu2) installed. Reboot and check whether everything works correctly now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1829838 Title: 1.10.14-0ubuntu2 breaks DNS propagation from VPN Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have an OpenVPN connection, and I use the update-systemd-resolved to correctly fetch the DNS from the VPN. The issue arose updating my Ubuntu 18.04: the script is no longer invoked, and even invoking it manually (sudo openvpn myfile.ovpn) does not work anymore, even if in that case systemd-resolve --status shows the new DNS on the interface correctly. As suggested in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network- manager/+bug/120/comments/99, reverting to 1.10.6-2ubuntu1.1 fixes the issue. @gatopeich Please don't load the bug description with personal opinions. Comment 50 is from an Ubuntu developer expert in the area, explains why this particular "report" cannot make progress, provides a path forward for users affected by these symptoms and so is the most relevant for users first finding this bug to read. Let's not put them off by wording that makes it seem like nothing can be done. ** Description changed: [Triage Notes] - Apparently fixed on Ubuntu 17.04, nobody caring about LTS versions. - Please see wall of text on comment 50 for a long excuse. + This report can no longer make progress. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1827842] Re: pulseaudio should not load module-x11-bell in gnome-shell
The request makes sense but I wonder if you saw any user visible impact? Trying on a recent disco installation, using the 'beep' command or press tab on a command line reflect the sound selected in gnome-control-center -> sound -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1827842 Title: pulseaudio should not load module-x11-bell in gnome-shell Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: The package `pulseaudio` installs a startup script in `/etc/xdg/autostart/pulseaudio.desktop`, which itself runs `/usr/bin/start-pulseaudio-x11`, which loads a number of x11 related modules in `pulseaudio`. One of these modules is `module-x11-bell`, which makes `pulseaudio` play a sound each time a system bell is emitted (usually by terminal applications, such as bash or vim). This is redundant with gnome-shell, which is also able to handle the system bell (through the gsetting key `org.gnome.desktop.sound event-sounds`). The gnome system bell is directly configurable by the user (Settings > Sound), so it should be preferred over pulseaudio's own system bell. I suggest to patch the `/usr/bin/start-pulseaudio-x11`, to avoid loading `start-pulseaudio-x11` if it detects it is running in Gnome Shell (e.g. if GNOME_SHELL_SESSION_MODE is set). [Touch-packages] [Bug 1830022] [NEW] DirtyCleanInterval should be 0 by default
Public bug reported: Please consider changing DirtyCleanInterval value to 0 as default. Otherwise if cupsd crashes due to (e.g. OOM killer) under a heavy workload even hundreds of jobs may be lost. This concern is backed up by a real-life scenario and leaves the client sending thousands of jobs unaware that many of them are lost during a crash. After cupsd gets restarted it rewinds it's job counter to the last cached and continues unaware about the jobs accepted and lost. Having DirtyCleanInterval set to 0 will cause some performance impact, but not significant under lighter workloads and a completely justified price for reliability under heavy workloads. Test scenario: 1. sudo apt install printer-driver-cups-pdf 2. while [ 1 ]; do lp -d PDF somepdf.pdf; done; 3. # on other terminal kill -9 $(pidof cupsd) 4. Note last job number and wait for cupsd to be restarted by systemd. 5. Once accepting jobs is resumend the job counter is rewound. Expected behavior: Accepted jobs are queued for processing. Thanks. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to initramfs-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1778844 Title: nvme multipath does not report path relationships Status in The Ubuntu-power-systems project: Fix Committed Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in initramfs-tools source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Status in initramfs-tools source package in Cosmic: Fix Committed Status in initramfs-tools source package in Disco: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] initramfs created with MODULES=dep or kdump initrd won't boot a system with root filesystem on a multipath nvme.
