[Touch-packages] [Bug 1844853] Re: IBus no longer works in Qt applications after upgrade

2019-11-02 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  IBus was broken for Qt applications as a regression due to the fix of
  CVE-2019-14822. As a result the IBus patch was disabled temporarily,
  which fixed IBus from a usability POV.

- The real fix has been made in glib2.0, and the proposed updates in the
- below PPA will allow the IBus patch to be re-enabled.
-
- https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/glib2.0
+ The real fix has been made in glib2.0, and the updates in -proposed will
+ allow the IBus patch to be re-enabled.

  [Test Case]

   * On a standard Ubuntu {eoan,disco,bionic,xenial} installation
-- Upgrade the glib2.0 packages from
-  {eoan,disco,bionic,xenial}-proposed
+    - Upgrade the glib2.0 packages from
+  {eoan,disco,bionic,xenial}-proposed
     - Upgrade the ibus packages from
   https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-security-proposed/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
     - Install some IBus input method, e.g. ibus-libpinyin
     - Install some Qt application, e.g. Kate

  * Relogin (maybe reboot)

  * Add the input method to the input sources

  * Open the Qt app and try to input something using the IBus IM

  => Find that the transliteration works as expected

  [Regression Potential]

  The applicable patches origin from glib upstream:
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/glib/merge_requests/1176
  Consequently the changes have been reviewed by the glib maintainer, but also
tested by the IBus maintainer, by me (gunnarhj), and - of course - the author
Simon McVittie. The changes have been in Debian unstable since 2019-10-30.

  [Original description]

  Kubuntu Release 18.04.3 LTS

  Expected behavior:
  ibus continues working as before after applying security update
1.5.17-ubuntu5.1 from version 1.5.17-ubuntu5.

  Observed behavior:
  ibus is not usable anymore in Qt applications.

  After updating ibus and the related packages ibus-gtk, ibus-gtk3,
libibus-1.0-5 and gir1.2-ibus-1.0 all from version 1.5.17-ubuntu5 to
1.5.17-ubuntu5.1, I can no longer use ibus in Qt applications. Using
shift-space no longer changes the selected input method and even when i switch
to the mozc input method in a gtk application, i can not use it in any Qt
applications.
  When starting qtconfig in a terminal, I also get the following message:

  Bus::open: Connect ibus failed!
  IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon

  This bug was not present in version 1.5.17-3ubuntu5 and I also confirmed
  that downgrading the packages to version 1.5.17-3ubuntu4 restores ibus
  functionality in Qt applications.

Just tested the systemd version from your PPA...

There are some changes:

So there is still the mention about the local system not supporting
BPF/cgroup firewalling (not sure if that is normal), but the "Proceeding
WITHOUT firewalling in effect!" warning is now gone with the new systemd
package.

With the old systemd package it used to be:

[2.101034] Lockdown: systemd: BPF is restricted; see man kernel_lockdown.7
[2.136885] systemd[1]: File /lib/systemd/system/systemd-journald.service:12

support BPF/cgroup based firewalling.
[2.142209] systemd[1]: Proceeding WITHOUT firewalling in effect! (This
warning is only shown for the first loaded unit using IP firewalling.)

  The included attachment .txt has more information. From what I've read

  be related to a missing kernel option (CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL=y), but this
  option seems to be enabled:

  Also my friend just installed 19.10 on his machine and is seeing the
  same warning, but I haven't found anyone else mentioning this issue at
  least on the latest Ubuntu 19.10. The same warning message is
  appearing if I run Ubuntu 19.10 in live mode from the USB stick.

  It's also worth stressing that the firewall is functioning just fine
  (using standard ufw) despite the error, so I'm guessing this is a
  harmless warning.

   1. Created a network bond with static IP address (and no IPv6 address);
active backup mode; ARP polling; single slave.

  2. Created a VLAN using said network bond with static IPv4 address
  (and no IPv6 address).

  3. Can ping from the appliance to a target on both links (the parent
  bond and the VLAN).

  4. Switched to another slave for the created bond

  5. Can still ping from the appliance to a target via the parent bond;
  however, cannot ping to the target via the VLAN.

Title:
  gdb not stopping on breakpoint in a 32-bit program

Status in gdb package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in gdb source package in Bionic:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  After upgrading gdb from 8.1-0ubuntu3 to 8.1-0ubuntu3.1, gdb does not stop
  on breakpoint when running a 32-bit application (on 64-bit Ubuntu).

  [Test Case]
  This can be reproduced with a simple “hello world” program:

  $ cat hello.c
  #include
  int main()
  {
     // printf() displays the string inside quotation
     printf("Hello, World!");
     return 0;
  }
  $ gcc -ggdb -m32 hello.c
  $ gdb a.out
  (gdb) b hello.c:5
  Breakpoint 1 at 0x536: file hello.c, line 5.
  (gdb) run
  Starting program: /home/user/sandbox/a.out
  warning: Breakpoint address adjusted from 0xf7fd9be0 to 0xf7fd9be0.
  warning: Breakpoint address adjusted from 0xf7fda195 to 0xf7fda195.
  warning: Breakpoint address adjusted from 0xf7fdbd1c to 0xf7fdbd1c.
  warning: Breakpoint address adjusted from 0xf7fdb924 to 0xf7fdb924.
  warning: Breakpoint address adjusted from 0xf7fe99b3 to 0xf7fe99b3.
  warning: Breakpoint address adjusted from 0xf7fea401 to 0xf7fea401.
  warning: Breakpoint address adjusted from 0xf7fea706 to 0xf7fea706.

  --- (and not stopping nor outputting the text…) ---

  [Regression Risk]
  Test case ran on arm64 and regression tested using the above test case on
amd64, i386 and s390x.

  This regression was fixed on the upstream gdb-8.1 branch within a few
  weeks of the breakage back in May 2018. Since then there have been no
  other fixes in this area on that branch, implying this fixed the issue
  and there were no further regressions discovered.

Bug description:
  SRU: update Python 3.7 to the 3.7.3 release, update Python 3.6 to the
  3.6.8 release.

  python3-stdlib-extensions also updates the modules to the 3.6.8
  release for Python 3.6.

  Acceptance Criteria: The package builds, and the test suite doesn't
  show regressions. The test suite passes in the autopkg tests. The new
  packages don't cause regressions in a test rebuild of the main
  component.

http://people.canonical.com/~doko/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20190404-cosmic.html

http://people.canonical.com/~doko/ftbfs-report/test-rebuild-20190404-gcc8-cosmic.html

  The test rebuilds are finished, and don't show any regressions for the
  main component.

  Regression Potential: Python 3.7 isn't used by default, so we don't have many
default users.
  Regression Potential: Python 3.6 could see some regressions, although we are
trying to minimize the risk by doing the test rebuild.

Title:
  iubuntu dash truncate the name of all application searched - no way to
  see the complete name

Status in gnome-shell package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I installed avidemux, which installed two packages with the same initial part
of their names: avidemux2.7_jobs_qt5 and avidemux2.7_qt5.
  By clicking SUPER, the Dash will appear. If I search for "avidemux" the two
elements appear but because of the name truncated, I can't differentiate them,
either are showed with the name "avidemux 2.7 (".
  Right-clicking on one of these there is the "details" option but it bring me
to the "ubuntu software" application that does not recognize the application
saying "application not found".
  I think that the choose to truncate the application name in the Dash is
simply a design bug.
  This is very annoying: there is enough space to see the compllete name,
instead of truncate it to the preview image size...

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1851056] [NEW] "Proceeding WITHOUT firewalling in effect!" warning

2019-11-02 Thread Valtteri Vainikka
Public bug reported:

Hello everyone,

I noticed a strange systemd warning in my kernel log about "Proceeding
WITHOUT firewalling in effect!" There is an older Debian bug mention
about this same issue and it is said there that it was fixed last year:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=872560

Release: Ubuntu 19.10, fresh install, latest updates with updates-testing
repository enabled
Systemd-package version: 242-7ubuntu3
Kernel: Linux 5.3.0-21-generic

Here is the relevant warning information via running sudo dmesg after
boot:

[2.096064] Lockdown: systemd: /dev/mem,kmem,port is restricted; see man
kernel_lockdown.7
[2.101034] Lockdown: systemd: BPF is restricted; see man kernel_lockdown.7
[2.136885] systemd[1]: File /lib/systemd/system/systemd-journald.service:12
configures an IP firewall (IPAddressDeny=any), but the local system does not
support BPF/cgroup based firewalling.
[2.142209] systemd[1]: Proceeding WITHOUT firewalling in effect! (This
warning is only shown for the first loaded unit using IP firewalling.)
[2.158190] systemd[1]: /lib/systemd/system/dbus.socket:4: ListenStream=
references a path below legacy directory /var/run/, updating
/var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket → /run/dbus/system_bus_socket; please update
the unit file accordingly.
[2.197029] systemd[1]: Listening on Journal Socket.
[2.203708] systemd[1]: Starting Create list of required static device nodes
for the current kernel...
[2.243900] bpfilter: Loaded bpfilter_umh pid 420
#Continues normally from here without anything that seems odd

The included attachment .txt has more information. From what I've read
online from various bug trackers from other distributions this should be
related to a missing kernel option (CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL=y), but this
option seems to be enabled:

# Output after running in commandline: grep BPF /boot/config-`uname -r`
# Kernel settings seem to be correct?
CONFIG_CGROUP_BPF=y
CONFIG_BPF=y
CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL=y
CONFIG_BPF_JIT_ALWAYS_ON=y
CONFIG_IPV6_SEG6_BPF=y
CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_BPF=m
CONFIG_BPFILTER=y
CONFIG_BPFILTER_UMH=m
CONFIG_NET_CLS_BPF=m
CONFIG_NET_ACT_BPF=m
CONFIG_BPF_JIT=y
CONFIG_BPF_STREAM_PARSER=y
CONFIG_LWTUNNEL_BPF=y
CONFIG_HAVE_EBPF_JIT=y
CONFIG_BPF_EVENTS=y
CONFIG_BPF_KPROBE_OVERRIDE=y
CONFIG_TEST_BPF=m

Also my friend just installed 19.10 on his machine and is seeing the
same warning, but I haven't found anyone else mentioning this issue at
least on the latest Ubuntu 19.10. The same warning message is appearing
if I run Ubuntu 19.10 in live mode from the USB stick.

What I expected to happen: no such error (it doesn't appear on Fedora or
openSUSE Tumbleweed that I've recently had installed on my other SSD)

What happened instead: error appears during every boot sequence

It's also worth stressing that the firewall is functioning just fine
(using standard ufw) despite the error, so I'm guessing this is a
harmless warning.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1851018] [NEW] xorg have some bugs.

2019-11-02 Thread quanbisen
Public bug reported:

1.When pasting, often I paste not the newest copied/cut text/image, but the
previous one. Very annoying! It is the case in all programs (LibreOffice, Kate,
