[Touch-packages] [Bug 1855402] Re: [TGL] mesa support

2019-12-08 Thread quanxian
keep it as 20.04. TigerLake PV is planned in 2020'May, this will miss
20.04 release. if all features for 3D go into 20.04, that will be good.
If not, just move them to 20.10.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1855584] Re: [Hasee NH50_70_55_58_ED, EDQ] pulseaudio: sometimes generate eternal white noise even reboot to Windows OS

2019-12-08 Thread sgqy
> #19

I tried the two kernel. For now. And have another problem, maybe not
important. 樂

5.3.0-24-ubuntu (current)
5.4.2-mainline

On the beginning, speaker never works. Headphone have only two volume: 0
and 100 (unable to change volume).

I removed '/var/lib/alsa/*' and '~/.config/pulse/*'.

1st reboot: pulseaudio not work.
2nd/3rd reboot: pulseaudio started. The volume is init value.

1st VLC play: speaker and headphone works. When changing volume, the music lags
and lags and repeats.
2nd/3rd VLC play: volume changing becomes smooth. Everything just works.

(The two kernels have the same behavior above.)

But... The noise problem is random, keep watching. 

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1855584] Re: [Hasee NH50_70_55_58_ED, EDQ] pulseaudio: sometimes generate eternal white noise even reboot to Windows OS

2019-12-08 Thread sgqy

It is not a typo. The problem goes half a year.
I remember it was fine in 18.04 and 18.10.

Also, before headphone becomes white noise, the speaker does a very very
short time of "PA!" sound, like a bomb.

I will try the new kernel for days and reply. :)

** Description changed:

  This problem seems begin from ubuntu 19.04.

  Sometimes after login, headphone outputs white noise only, speaker does
  not work.

  Nothing can play music with the noise.

  The noise is impossible to stop except POWEROFF the PC.

  Rebooting cannot stop it, the noise keeps even reboot into Windows OS.
  In Windows OS, headphone still white noise, after unplugging headphone, the
speaker does not work, too.

  It works fine in Windows OS.
  If I remove pulseaudio, only use ALSA. It also works stable.
  (But now... firefox do not support ALSA, chromium-snap do not support ALSA
too...)

  It seems pulseaudio killed the sound card...

  The problem appears randomly, I do not know how to reproduce. sorry...

Title:
  Dell XPS 13 7390 screen corruption in 18.04 LTS, 19.04 and 19.10 on
  Intel Comet Lake

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  I just received a new Dell XPS 13 7390 laptop. With factory
  preinstalled Ubuntu Linux 18.04 LTS and the Dell OEM kernel, graphics
  was severely distorted. The display would constantly flicker with
  areas of the display staying black or showing patterns of square color
  blocks.

  Booting in recovery mode worked, though and I was able to install all
  updates for preinstalled 18.04 LTS with the OEM kernel. Problems in
  non-recovery mode persisted after installing all updates. I then
  updated to Ubuntu 19.04 and changed to "generic" linux kernel image
  without success: Problem persisted, only recovery mode was usable. I
  updated once more to 19.10 again without any success.

  From the perhaps related bug #1849947 I tried latest drm-tip kernel
  from

  https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

  drm-tip kernel solves the issue for first boot, but after resuming
  from suspend, the same issues display issues occur.

  Kernel images I tried:
  - linux-image-4.15.0-1065-oem - on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, corrupted graphics
output without "nomodeset"
  - linux-image-5.0.0-37-generic - on Ubuntu 19.04, corrupted graphics output
without "nomodeset"
  - linux-image-5.3.0-24-generic - on Ubuntu 19.10, corrupted graphics output
without "nomodeset"
  - linux-image-unsigned-5.4.0-994-generic - on Ubuntu 19.10, corrupted
graphics output after resuming from suspend

Bug description:
  I have a 5.1 sound system that is connected via three 3.5 mm audio
  cables with my Sound Blaster ZxR: Front Left, Center, Front Right,
  Rear Left, Rear Right, LFE

  I only get sound from "Front Left"/"Front Right". All other speakers
  don't make a sound. I tested Ubuntu 19.04, Ubuntu 19.10, Manjaro
  18.10, different Kernels and the Sound Blaster Patch from reddit,
  nothing helped. After all these tests, I started again with a fresh
  Ubuntu 19.10 installation with this output from "alsa information
  script": http://alsa-
  project.org/db/?f=c9d4adfbc5441c4975b6e6c7a6fb3cbfc201158a

  Only thing that I did was changing the default audio device to my ZxR.
Otherwise my NVIDIA graphics card is selected. I did that with ~/.asoundrc:
  defaults.ctl.!card "Creative"
  defaults.pcm.!card "Creative"
  defaults.timer.!card "Creative"

  Interestingly I decided to install Windows 10 on my second drive in dual boot
mode.
  I noticed that when I start Windows all speakers are working. Then I reboot
to Ubuntu and all speakers are working, too. This effect will vanish if I shut
down my PC and start directly to Ubuntu.
  So something happens on Windows that is kept while rebooting to Ubuntu..

  I already reported this issue at bugzilla.kernel.org:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1855616] Re: apport tries to hit ec2 metadata service if cloud-init is installed

2019-12-08 Thread Chad Smith
I'll have to double check on UEC images and whether cloud-init is
included in those image types, but we should be able to depend on the
following function that that is the case:

def add_cloud_info(report):
# EC2 and Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud instances
try:
 instance_data = json.loads(
subprocess.check_output(['cloud-init', 'query', '--all']).decode())
except subprocess.CalledProcessError as e:
return
report = {}
if instance_data.get('platform') == 'ec2':
ami = instance_data.get('ds', {}).get('meta_data', {}).get('ami_id')
if ami and ami.startswith('ami'):
report['Ec2AMI'] = ami
fields = {
'Ec2AMIManifest': 'ds.meta_data.ami_manifest_path',
'Ec2Kernel': 'ds.dynamic.instance_identity.document.kernelId',
'Ec2Ramdisk':
'ds.dynamic.instance_identity.document.ramdiskId',
'Ec2InstanceType': 'ds.meta_data.instance_type',
'Ec2AvailabilityZone': 'availability_zone'}
for key, path in fields.items():
value = instance_data
for path_part in path.split('.'):
value = value.get(path_part)
if not value:
break
report[key] = value if value else 'unavailable'
else:
add_tag(report, 'uec-images')

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1855616] Re: apport tries to hit ec2 metadata service if cloud-init is installed

2019-12-08 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Chad pointed out in IRC that cloud-init query platform is the supported
way to get that information, but also that cloud-init query in general
can probably be the source for all this information, on clouds other
than EC2 as well.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1843479] Re: gzip in Ubuntu Eoan results in Exec format error on WSL1

2019-12-08 Thread Balint Reczey
I've forwarded the binutils patch to the mailing list, too:
https://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2019-12/msg00104.html .

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu

Title:
  gzip in Ubuntu Eoan results in Exec format error on WSL1

Status in binutils:
  Confirmed
Status in binutils package in Ubuntu:

Status in gzip package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  Summary:

  Running gzip on WSL1 results in the following error:

  $ gzip
  -bash: /bin/gzip: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error

  What I expect to happen:

  gzip executes correctly on WSL1.

  What happens instead:

  gzip fails with an Exec format error.

  Notes:

  I suspect a change in how gzip is being built for Eoan is causing
  issues with ELF parsing on the WSL1 translation layer. For example:

  On Disco with gzip 1.9-3:

  $ file /bin/gzip
  /bin/gzip: ELF 64-bit LSB pie executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV),
dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, for GNU/Linux
3.2.0, BuildID[sha1]=efa859c26eaf8e035efe9a139361e2a60cd17b3e, stripped

  On Eoan with gzip 1.10-0ubuntu3:

  $ file /bin/gzip
  /bin/gzip: ELF 64-bit LSB pie executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV),
dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2,
BuildID[sha1]=bc0f5994544c2a469d04c914bf4bf44b4ded6040, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0,
stripped

  Eoan ships with gzip 1.10, while Disco ships with gzip 1.9, but I do
  not believe this is an issue in 1.10 because this error does not occur
  when building gzip from GNU project source on Ubuntu Eoan.

  Justifications:

  WSL1 will need to be patched in future Windows builds for this change
  in ELF. However that patch will likely not be backported to older
  builds of Windows, including Windows Enterprise/Server 2019.

  To ensure Eoan can run on current and older builds of Windows Ubuntu
  should consider looking at how it's building gzip and see if it can be
  made to 'play nice' until WSL1 can be updated.

  https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/issues/4461

  [ Regression Potential ]

   * Pulling in a /etc/profile.d script that exits can make the started
  shell exit immediately. For this reason the shell does not exit in any
  case. The script can also throw confusing errors. To avoid such errors
  the script is tested in an autopkgtest and many related packages were
  fixed where errors were observed. The update-motd package adds Breaks:
  against related package versions which are known to show errors in
  MOTD when being run as a regular user. See LP: #1855271 for more
  details.

  [ Other Info ]

   * The SRU upload to Eoan waits for the acceptance of update-motd to
  Eoan and also for the seed merge.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1855616] [NEW] apport tries to hit ec2 metadata service if cloud-init is installed

2019-12-08 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
Public bug reported:

This probably made sense in 2012 but in focal all servers are going to
have cloud-init installed. I *think* apport should consult "< /run

should probably check that.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1843479] Re: gzip in Ubuntu Eoan results in Exec format error on WSL1

2019-12-08 Thread Balint Reczey
The offset pointing past EOF is observed only in gzip and in several
debug files:

$ grep -v dbg wrong-offsets
gzip_1.10-0ubuntu3_amd64.deb: /bin/gzip
libhugetlbfs-tests_2.21-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb:

libhugetlbfs-tests_2.21-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb:

libhugetlbfs-tests_2.21-0ubuntu1_amd64.deb:

After binutils is backported only gzip needs to be rebuilt.

Title:
  gzip in Ubuntu Eoan results in Exec format error on WSL1

Status in binutils:
  Confirmed
Status in binutils package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress
Status in gzip package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  Summary:

  Running gzip on WSL1 results in the following error:

  $ gzip

  $ file /bin/gzip
  /bin/gzip: ELF 64-bit LSB pie executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV),
dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, for GNU/Linux
3.2.0, BuildID[sha1]=efa859c26eaf8e035efe9a139361e2a60cd17b3e, stripped

  On Eoan with gzip 1.10-0ubuntu3:

  $ file /bin/gzip
  /bin/gzip: ELF 64-bit LSB pie executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV),
dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2,
BuildID[sha1]=bc0f5994544c2a469d04c914bf4bf44b4ded6040, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0,

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1855608] [NEW] Dell XPS 13 7390 screen corruption in 18.04 LTS, 19.04 and 19.10

2019-12-08 Thread packet
Public bug reported:

I just received a new Dell XPS 13 7390 laptop. With factory preinstalled
Ubuntu Linux 18.04 LTS and the Dell OEM kernel, graphics was severely
distorted. The display would constantly flicker with areas of the
display staying black or showing patterns of square color blocks.

Booting in recovery mode worked, though and I was able to install all
updates for preinstalled 18.04 LTS with the OEM kernel. Problems in non-
recovery mode persisted after installing all updates. I then updated to
Ubuntu 19.04 and changed to "generic" linux kernel image without
success: Problem persisted, only recovery mode was usable. I updated
once more to 19.10 again without any success.

>From the perhaps related bug #1849947 I tried latest drm-tip kernel from

https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

drm-tip kernel solves the issue for first boot, but after resuming from
suspend, the same issues display issues occur.

Kernel images I tried:
- linux-image-4.15.0-1065-oem - on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, corrupted graphics output
without "nomodeset"
- linux-image-5.0.0-37-generic - on Ubuntu 19.04, corrupted graphics output
without "nomodeset"
- linux-image-5.3.0-24-generic - on Ubuntu 19.10, corrupted graphics output
without "nomodeset"
- linux-image-unsigned-5.4.0-994-generic - on Ubuntu 19.10, corrupted graphics
output after resuming from suspend

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1855584] [NEW] pulseaudio: sometimes generate eternal white noise even reboot to Windows OS

2019-12-08 Thread sgqy
Public bug reported:

The problem appears randomly, I do not know how to reproduce. sorry...

Title:
  pulseaudio: sometimes generate eternal white noise even reboot to
  Windows OS

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  This problem seems begin from ubuntu 19.04.

  Sometimes after login, headphone outputs white noise only, speaker
  does not work.

  The problem appears randomly, I do not know how to reproduce. sorry...

Just in case it was a driver issue (affecting two different chipsets...)
I can report that it's still behaving like this with version 5.3.0-24.26
