[Touch-packages] [Bug 1856392] Re: [HP ZBook 15 G6, Realtek ALC285, Black Mic, Right] Microphone not detected

2019-12-14 Thread Hui Wang
"I have no internal mic detected.", that is because the internal mic connects
to PCH instead of codec, so it needs the sof driver to enable the internal mic.
Please have a try with latest mainline kernel, and upload the dmesg, the dmesg
will tell us if your machine need sof driver or not.
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v5.5-rc1/

"When hooking a microphone enabled headphone on the jack plug, the headphones
mic is then detected, but there is now no sound output on the headphone.", that
should not happen. when you plug a headset, the headphone should be the output
device, and the mic on the headset should be in the input device.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1838151] Re: Poor quality audio with modern Bluetooth headsets in HSP/HFP. Missing wide band speech support.

2019-12-14 Thread Kyle Van Wagenen
This issue impacts the experience with Ubuntu significantly. Android,
Windows, and OS X all sound much better with a Bluetooth headset when on
calls, playing games, or listening to music while using the headset
microphone.

Bug description:
Bluetooth HSP/HFP audio quality is poor on Ubuntu comparative to all
other major platforms (Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS, Android, iOS).

Modern Bluetooth headsets (such as the Bose QC series headphones, many
others) are capable of using HFP 1.6 with mSBC 16kHz audio encoding.
As it currently stands, Ubuntu defaults to only supporting HSP
headsets using 8kHz CVSD, and is incapable of supporting HFP 1.6 at
  this time.

The ChromiumOS team recently tackled this issue -
  https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=843048

Their efforts may assist in bringing this to Ubuntu, however it
appears that there are quite a lot of differences considering they
have developed their own audio server solution etc.

The Bluetooth Telephony Working Group published the HFP 1.6 spec in
  May 2011 -
  https://www.bluetooth.org/docman/handlers/downloaddoc.ashx?doc_id=238193

Patches have been proposed in the past for this issue to the kernel
  and PulseAudio:

  PulseAudio: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/245272/
  Kernel: https://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-bluetooth/msg76982.html

It appears that the Chromium OS team applied the same kernel patch:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1856366] Re: PCI/internal sound card not detected

2019-12-14 Thread Adam
Hi Paul,

> does the pre-built firmware file from
https://github.com/thesofproject/sof/releases work?

I tried the releases 1.4.1 and 1.3 as well as followed their
instractions to build from latest soource. The sof-icl.ri did not work
for me with 5.5-rc1 and 5.4. I did not check for 5.3 because my sound
card (Intel Corporation Device [8086:34c8]) was working well already
with the snd_hda_intel module.

> 2. With the firmware file installed, does Linux 5.3 work with `dsp_driver=0`?
Yes. Without and with that option 5.3 will load snd_hda_intel for the sound
card.

Find attached the outputs. I think the interesting bit is in the not
working boot:

I have linux-firmware installed. The video looks good for now, so I will ignore
that issue :|

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1854403] Re: Need updated libimobiledevice and dependencies to access iOS 13 devices

2019-12-14 Thread adasiko
Photo access (gphoto2://) works in both Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04.

Documents access (afc://) works in Ubuntu 18.04 in reading mode - I can copy
file from iPhone to PC. But it hangs (forever 0%) while copy one small file to
iPhone device.
In Ubuntu 20.04 I get errors for both case (copy file from iPhone documents to
PC and with reverse direction).

Can not say that Ubuntu 20.04 is better in this use case...

No luck with Ubuntu 20.04 (trying to copy mp3 file to VLC folder on
iPhone):

"Error while copying test.mp3. There was error copying file into afc
://some-id/org.videolan.vlc-ios. The connection was interrupted."

Something broken with iOS 13 update...

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1856366] Re: PCI/internal sound card not detected

2019-12-14 Thread Paul Menzel
It should work out of the box without the user having to specify any
options.

1. There does not seem to be an Ubuntu package for Sound Open Firmware
yet. Adam, does the pre-built firmware file from
https://github.com/thesofproject/sof/releases work? Linux 5.3, 5.4,
5.5-rc1?

2. With the firmware file installed, does Linux 5.3 work with
`dsp_driver=0`? Please attach the Linux messages from the non-working
and working boot.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1850748] Re: hud-tools depends on obsolete python-polib

2019-12-14 Thread Steve Langasek
hud has a single reverse-dependency in the archive, unity-action-api,
which itself has no reverse-dependencies. Neither of these packages has
had sourceful changes uploaded since 2017. I am going to go ahead with
removing these packages to unblock polib.

** Also affects: unity-action-api (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

Title:
  hud-tools depends on obsolete python-polib

Status in hud package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in unity-action-api package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
The Ubuntu-specific hud-tools package depends on python-polib, which
has been dropped from the polib source package in Debian and focal-
proposed. To remain in Ubuntu 20.04 and beyond, this package will
need to be updated to not depend on python-polib.

It also appears that the hud-tools package does not comply with the
python packaging policy, because it depends on python-polib and
python-lxml but does not depend on python at all. Given that future
versions of the system will not ship /usr/bin/python as a python2
interpreter, it's important that this be fixed as well if the intent
  is to continue shipping hud-tools.
