[Touch-packages] [Bug 1856997] Re: Nvidia driver is not working / not supported

2019-12-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It looks like you have manually installed an Nvidia driver, and it's an
older version than ships with Ubuntu.

To install a driver that is supported and works for you please try:

  1. Tap the Super (Windows) key.
  2. Type: Software & Updates
  3. Start 'Software & Updates'
  4. Click on 'Additional Drivers' and install from there.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1857198] Re: alsa ALC285 Missing still, No Sound Lenovo Ideapad S740

2019-12-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1857198

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1002978] Re: [meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

2019-12-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
This bug should stay closed due to:

 * its age and relevance to current code;
 * lack of apport information; and
 * the problem and the solution being hardware-specific.

To help us better understand the current problems people are facing,
please open new bugs by running:

  ubuntu-bug alsa-driver

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1002978

Title:
[meta-bug] Inverted Internal microphone (phase inversion)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is a metabug for all machines that are having phase inverted
  internal microphones.

If your internal mic is either completely silent (no signal), or you
can possibly pick a very small sound, with much background noise, even
though you have set gain to maximum, there is something you could try.

Install the pavucontrol application, start it and go to the "Input Devices"
tab. Unlock the channels (there is a keylock icon), then mute the right channel
while keeping the left channel at the volume you want.
If the internal mic is now working correctly, you have an inverted internal
mic, so that your right channel cancels out the left one.

(If you're not running PulseAudio, you can try doing the same through
AlsaMixer instead (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/Alsamixer ), try
changing "Capture" level or "Internal Mic" or "Internal Mic Boost"
  using the Q,E,Z,C keys.)

If so, please file a separate bug against the alsa-driver for your
issue, make sure hardware info gets attached to it (either alsa-info
as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo or the standard ones
that follows when you do "ubuntu-bug alsa-driver" ), then write a
comment in this bug, with your machine name and a pointer to the other
  bug.

As time permits, I'll try to work on fixing them for the next Ubuntu release.
Thanks!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1715931] Re: Update to exiv2 version 0.27

2019-12-22 Thread Ari
it doesn't look like it's going to be actioned at all,

focal (graphics): EXIF/IPTC/XMP metadata manipulation tool [universe]
0.25-4ubuntu3: amd64 arm64 armhf ppc64el s390x

which is awful, unfortunately. It's been 3 years now without an update.
Not only for the security implications and all the known vulnerabilities
but also for the problems this brings to other photography software that
depends on exiv2, e.g. lensfun and all the apps that use lensfun, like
darktable

Presumably debian stretch freeze interfered with a prompter update

  Currently in debian exp here:

  https://packages.debian.org/experimental/exiv2

I was hoping to to get a new feature release of the very popular
Digikam (5.7.0) into artful under a FFE, but that has bumped the
  minimum exiv2 build depend from 0.25 -> 0.26.

If due to rdeps etc an update in artful turns out not to be possible,
I would like to target this for early in 18.04 LTS cycle.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 574287] Re: tasksel: forcefully removes packages when tasks overlap

2019-12-22 Thread Oliver Gerlich
WTF. I was uninstalling the ubuntu-mate-desktop task with tasksel (while
ubuntu-desktop was still checked in the list), and it removed basically
everything. Afterwards all tasks in the tasksel list were unchecked.
This is definitely not the expected behavior: when I uncheck a specific
task, I don't expect other tasks to be removed as well.

I suggest to disable the package-removal functionality in tasksel.
Alternatively, show a big warning when tasksel is about to remove
anything. There are lots of warning posts about this behavior of tasksel
all over the net, but if the warning does not appear in the application
itself, I'm unlikely to see it before it's too late.

Title:
tasksel: forcefully removes packages when tasks overlap

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in tasksel package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in tasksel package in Debian:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  TEST CASE

  1. Boot Lucid LiveCD

  2. run "sudo tasksel" and select "virtual machine host"

  3. run "sudo tasksel" and deselect "virtual machine host"

  4. watch how tasksel uninstalls your system

  OBSERVATIONS

What seems to happen is that apt vengefully removes ALL of the items
associated with one task, including several base dependencies of other
  tasks (e.g. ubuntu-desktop)

One illustrative example is the openssh-server task:
This one includes the packages openssh-server, tcpd and libwrap0.
  From a normal ubuntu-desktop (e.g. ~liveCD) both tcpd and libwrap0 are
already installed, and the task-install pulls in only openssh-server.
However when the task is removed, all these three packages (openssh-server,
tcpd and libwrap0) are forcefully removed.
Since libwrap0 is a core dependency of gnome, a large part of gnome will be
removed alongside the removal of the task.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1051288] Re: LightDM assumes there's only ONE system default layout

2019-12-22 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Are you still using lightdm there? Ubuntu 19.10 uses GDM; only some
other flavors like MATE, Xubuntu and Lubuntu use lightdm.

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu
Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu.

Title:
LightDM assumes there's only ONE system default layout

Status in Light Display Manager:
  Triaged
Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
In Greece, the default system layout is "us,gr":
  $ grep XKBLAYOUT /etc/default/keyboard
  XKBLAYOUT="us,gr"

For new users that don't have .dmrc or accountsservice entries and are
supposed to get the system defaults, LightDM assumes their keyboard layout is
"us".
So they can't switch languages in the greeter and they can't input national
characters until they login, go to gnome settings and manually set the keyboard
layout.

  A similar bug was
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/919200, but
that was only solved for the single-layout case.
