[Touch-packages] [Bug 1847570] Re: PulseAudio automatically switches to HDMI sound output on login

2019-12-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears the upstream fix in master (PulseAudio 14) does not apply and
can't work in PulseAudio 13 so we will stick with the revert in
PulseAudio 13. The patch in comment #34 is still awaiting
sponsorship/publishing.

PulseAudio automatically switches to HDMI sound output on login

Status in PulseAudio:

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:

Status in pulseaudio source package in Eoan:
  Fix Committed
Status in pulseaudio source package in Focal:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

On my freshly installed eoan system I have two output devices:
  - HDMI/DisplayPort 2 - GK208 ...
  - Line Out - Family 17h ...

When I login into the system pulseaudio always select the "wrong"
one (HDMI) and I need to go to gnome-settings/Sound/Output Device
and switch to "line out". This applies to every login/logout not
  just reboots.

  [Test Case]

  0. Plug in a monitor that supports HDMI audio (one that appears in
  your Settings>Sound)

  1. Log out and in again.

Verify the default audio device in Settings is still speakers or
headphones. Not the monitor's HDMI audio device.

  [Regression Potential]

Low. The fix proposed just reverts to the same code used in PulseAudio
12 and earlier. It has also been released and verified on focal
  already.

  [Workaround]

  Comment out:

  load-module module-switch-on-port-available
  load-module module-switch-on-connect

  from /etc/pulse/default.pa

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1857821] Re: external HDMI monitor always "unplugged"

2019-12-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
If you have an Nvidia GPU in this laptop then it's possible and even
likely the HDMI port is wired to Nvidia and not Intel. This means the
feature depends on the Nvidia driver installed.

When you say:

> but all the HDMI output devices are listed as "unplugged"

can you please explain what you are looking at there?

  external HDMI monitor always "unplugged"

Status in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  Hello my Ubuntu friends,

I can no longer play sound over my external HDMI connected TV.

The image displays perfectly, but all the HDMI output devices are
  listed as "unplugged"

I have spent a huge amount of time trying every solution that Internet
searching will bring but this has changed nothing.

I have tired all available video drivers, including Xorg and NVIDEA
  396.26, 340.107, and 384.130.

This failure is recent because in the past I could play both audio and
  video through the HDMI connector.

The laptop is dual boot with Windows 10 and the HDMI works perfectly
on that OS, although I rarely use it...

I am wondering if upgrading my Xubuntu to the latest LTS could
potentially solve this issue, but I fear such an update since I depend
on this computer and an outage would be very hard for me...

  Any thoughts would be great.

  Thanks for making Linux great!
  Bob

The only work around that helps is to not load "module-switch-on-connect" (as

It seems that HDMI output is seen by the system as connected later
than Line Out, so it switches to it on every reboot.

gawk has -e option, but it is not installed by default at least in

Solution: Either use "awk --" instead of "awk -e" or use "gawk -e" and
  put gawk as dependency.

Bug description:
I am running Ubuntu 19.10 and encountered this issue. I had a podcast
playing in the background on Firefox v. 70.0.1 and I was deleting some
files. I then proceeded to empty the trash and saw that the audio
stops briefly till the "Empty all items from Trash?" prompt shows up.

I was able to duplicate this many times and it even occurred with
  audio on Chrome.

The expected way for things to work would be the audio keeps on
playing, if I just empty the trash.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1847570] Re: PulseAudio automatically switches to HDMI sound output on login

2019-12-29 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Hmm, upstream have now written a proper fix destined for PulseAudio 14:

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/merge_requests/225

Maybe we should change to that.

Status in pulseaudio source package in Focal:

Bug description:
  [Impact]

On my freshly installed eoan system I have two output devices:
  - HDMI/DisplayPort 2 - GK208 ...
  - Line Out - Family 17h ...

When I login into the system pulseaudio always select the "wrong"
one (HDMI) and I need to go to gnome-settings/Sound/Output Device
and switch to "line out". This applies to every login/logout not
  just reboots.

  [Test Case]

  0. Plug in a monitor that supports HDMI audio (one that appears in
  your Settings>Sound)

  1. Log out and in again.

Verify the default audio device in Settings is still speakers or
headphones. Not the monitor's HDMI audio device.

  [Regression Potential]

Low. The fix proposed just reverts to the same code used in PulseAudio
12 and earlier. It has also been released and verified on focal
  already.

  [Workaround]

  Comment out:

  load-module module-switch-on-port-available
  load-module module-switch-on-connect

  from /etc/pulse/default.pa

Bug description:
I frequently find that audio streams in pulseaudio are playing at the
wrong speed. They are either a bit slow or a bit fast. To my ears I
would say that the difference in pitch is probably around one tone, or

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1850127] Re: Unable to print with Brother printer since upgrade to Ubuntu 19.10

2019-12-29 Thread damien_d
Another data point. Same headline problem, but with a Brother HL-L3230CDW
 - Worked fine on 19.04
 - No longer worked after upgrade to 19.10
 - Still worked on the same computer when rebooting to my Windows 10 x64
partition.
 - Worked after a firmware update of the printer (which I installed from
Windows using the Brother utilities).

Title:
Unable to print with Brother printer since upgrade to Ubuntu 19.10

Status in cups package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I have recently bought a new color laser printer (Brother HL-
L8260CDW), which is connected through wLAN. It works like a charm
under Ubuntu 19.04, but refuses to print since the upgrade to stock
Ubuntu 19.10. I can reach it via ping and through its HTTP config page
  from the same computer.

During my collection of relevant bug information I discovered the
  following error messages:

  1. Some print filter was unable to grep
/etc/cups/ppd/Brother_HL_L8260CDW_series.ppd
This file was rw for user "root" and r for group "lp", but not accessible
to others.
I have made it world readable for testing purposes, but I still can't
print.

  2. I checked /var/log/syslog for app-armour errors but found none which would
be related
  to cups and/or printing

  3. After fixing the permission issue, the new error message is "File \'\' not
found" and
"Unable to add document to print job.", both of which are too cryptic for
me to dig
  further into this by myself.

Attached to this bug report I send the following pieces of information:
  - output from "/usr/lib/cups/backend/snmp 10.0.0.14" (snmp.txt)
  - output from "lpinfo -v" (lpinfo.txt)
  - output from "avahi-browse -a -v -t -r" and "avahi-browse -a -v -c -r"
(avahi.txt)

ExecStart=amixer set "Channel mode" "6ch"

[Install]
WantedBy=pulseaudio.service

systemctl --user enable pulseaudio.preconf.service

and restart

This mixer setting should be persistent automatically across reboots.
And for pulseaudio integration, it should be able to configure this
setting in the GUI

Bug description:
Ubuntu does not detect my 5.1 surround sound[0] by default. In order
to get it detected, I have to do the following:

  1) Open alsamixer
  2) Change the "Channel Mode" setting from "2ch" to "6ch" (there is also a
"4ch" setting)
  3) `pulseaudio -k`

I have to do this on every boot, as the "6ch" setting is not
  remembered.

[0] My soundcard and sound system are 5.1, but I actually only have front
left, center, right and the subwoofer. This shouldn't affect how Ubuntu acts
at all (because it can't know what speakers I have plugged in to my subwoofer),
but will mean that I can't report on whether or not rear channels are working
as expected.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1857821] [NEW] external HDMI monitor always "unplugged"

2019-12-29 Thread gratefulfrog
Public bug reported:

Hello my Ubuntu friends,

I can no longer play sound over my external HDMI connected TV.

The image displays perfectly, but all the HDMI output devices are listed
as "unplugged"

I have spent a huge amount of time trying every solution that Internet
searching will bring but this has changed nothing.

I have tired all available video drivers, including Xorg and NVIDEA
396.26, 340.107, and 384.130.

This failure is recent because in the past I could play both audio and
video through the HDMI connector.

The laptop is dual boot with Windows 10 and the HDMI works perfectly on
that OS, although I rarely use it...

I am wondering if upgrading my Xubuntu to the latest LTS could
potentially solve this issue, but I fear such an update since I depend
on this computer and an outage would be very hard for me...

Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks for making Linux great!
Bob

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1857820] [NEW] e-cal-recur: Ignores recurrence exceptions

2019-12-29 Thread SchnippenSchnappen
Public bug reported:

Recurrence exceptions are no longer handled. That is, a recurring
appointment is drawn on days that are supposed to be an exception to the
recurrence rule. Imagine you have a meeting every Monday at 10 AM but
the next meeting got cancelled. You want to remove the cancelled meeting
from the calendar without removing all other past and future events.
This is no longer possible with 3.34.1 due to a bug.

This bug is known and fixed in upstream 3.34.2 however Ubuntu must
backport it to the 3.34.1 version shipped with eaon.

This is one of multiple upstream bug reports for this:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution-data-server/issues/162

This is the patch for 3.34.x: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/evolution-
data-server/commit/795a6f9f687122f6ce0bcfbf2c45bcd4a33f30a2

(There is a separate patch for 3.35.x but I assume this is not relevant for the
current eaon version.)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1857809] [NEW] Cisco AnyConnect (VPN) username is not remembered

2019-12-29 Thread tellapu
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 19.10 (and previous versions) with openconnect 8.02-1build1,
network-manager-openconnect and network-manager-openconnect-gnome
1.2.4-2ubuntu1 and libopenconnect5 8.02-1build1:
The username is not saved although "save passwords" is chosen.
When I connect to a Cisco AnyConnect VPN profile from the Network Manager it
shows the connect to VPN dialog window, the password was saved and is
automatically added to the field (from a previous connection) but the username
has to be added every time the VPN is started.
Is this a bug or just the way it is?
Can this be changed?
If yes, how?

I'm also affected by this one. I don't seem to have any visible problems
but the syslog is spammed by these errors.

Title:
Ubuntu 18.04: Can't remove software key via software-properties
  package GUI

Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  I have these packages installed:

  ii python3-software-properties0.96.24.32.11
all manage the repositories that you install software
from
  ii software-properties-common 0.96.24.32.11
all manage the repositories that you install software
from (common)
  ii software-properties-gtk0.96.24.32.11
all manage the repositories that you install software
from (gtk)

However, after calling out `Software & Updates` GUI and clicking the
`Authenication` tab, I found the `Remove` button there does not work.
It does not delete any trusted software keys. I had to resort to using
cli cmds as given in https://askubuntu.com/questions/107177/how-can-i
  -remove-gpg-key-that-i-added-using-apt-key-add/846877#846877 to remove
  any trusted software keys.

The 'Remove' button needs to work; it needs to be fixed.

Exactly what the title says. Place yourself in the Authentication tab,
click on a key, click on the Remove button, enter the password, and
see than nothing happens, even after closing the application and
refreshing. This can be checked by later running apt-key list.

I'm running an up-to-date Ubuntu Bionic.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1847570] Re: PulseAudio automatically switches to HDMI sound output on login

2019-12-29 Thread Martin Gerdzhev
I have 2 displayport monitors that have no speakers and this is
happening all the time. It also happens when the resolution changes or
the monitor scaling is changed.

Title:
PulseAudio automatically switches to HDMI sound output on login

Status in PulseAudio:
  New
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in pulseaudio source package in Eoan:
  Fix Committed
Status in pulseaudio source package in Focal:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

On my freshly installed eoan system I have two output devices:
  - HDMI/DisplayPort 2 - GK208 ...
  - Line Out - Family 17h ...

When I login into the system pulseaudio always select the "wrong"
one (HDMI) and I need to go to gnome-settings/Sound/Output Device
and switch to "line out". This applies to every login/logout not
  just reboots.

  [Test Case]

  0. Plug in a monitor that supports HDMI audio (one that appears in
  your Settings>Sound)

  1. Log out and in again.

Verify the default audio device in Settings is still speakers or
headphones. Not the monitor's HDMI audio device.

  [Regression Potential]

Low. The fix proposed just reverts to the same code used in PulseAudio
12 and earlier. It has also been released and verified on focal
  already.

  [Workaround]

  Comment out:

  load-module module-switch-on-port-available
  load-module module-switch-on-connect

  from /etc/pulse/default.pa
