[Touch-packages] [Bug 1883880] Re: fix non-8-bit x86 displacements breaking AVX512 builds on Bionic
I got doko to have a quick look (as he is unavailable atm) which seemed ok. This was mostly to hear from him if this was an overall horrendous idea (it isn't) and not to check every line, so this should be ok as-is then. Further as stated above all other pre-checks against the PPA are good as well. I uploaded to bionic-unapproved for consideration by the SRU Team. ** Changed in: binutils (Ubuntu Bionic) Status: New => In Progress ** Changed in: binutils (Ubuntu Bionic) Assignee: Matthias Klose (doko) => Christian Ehrhardt (paelzer) ** Tags added: server-next -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to binutils in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883880 Title: fix non-8-bit x86 displacements breaking AVX512 builds on Bionic Status in binutils package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in binutils source package in Bionic: In Progress Bug description: [Impact] * the assembler scales non 8 bit cases which was identified to break e.g. some AVX512 code. It is nasty as it isn't a compile/link/ time error. Instead the instructions might silently be corrupted until running. Things might even work on some but fail on other systems if e.g. the AVX code paths only run on newer chips. * The fix is upstream for a while and not re-changed again. Furthermore it is in several Ubuntu releases without bugs due to that, which should make the backport rather safe. [Test Case] * Simple example to trigger the bug: echo "vmovaps 0x40(,%rax,1),%zmm0" | as --64 -o avx.o && objdump -d avx.o | grep vmovaps The expected output is that the objdump output matches the vmovaps instruction input. When using binutils with the bug, the initial 0x40 will be incorrect. Working: $ echo "vmovaps 0x40(,%rax,1),%zmm0" | as --64 -o avx.o && objdump -d avx.o | grep vmovaps 0: 62 f1 7c 48 28 04 05 vmovaps 0x40(,%rax,1),%zmm0 Failing: $ echo "vmovaps 0x40(,%rax,1),%zmm0" | as --64 -o avx.o && objdump -d avx.o | grep vmovaps 0: 62 f1 7c 48 28 04 05 vmovaps 0x1(,%rax,1),%zmm0 [Regression Potential] * Well, this is a double edged sword. On one hand this is fortunately a small change and only affects something formerly clearly broken. So it should be good and only change cases formerly being bad. But OTOH binutils areused in so many cases that I feel unable to say "nothing will happen". The change goes to the gnu assembler, so that is the place to look out for regressions. [Other Info] * needs a sponsor experienced with binutils to check potential pitfalls --- Hi, DPDK has run into some issues in the past https://bugs.dpdk.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97 https://bugs.dpdk.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249 Eventually the issues got resolved in binutils via https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=23465 After binutils is fixed people rebuilding DPDK themselve can use http://patches.dpdk.org/patch/71679/ to gain more performance while on Bionics bintuils level. Note: Bionic is on DPDK 17.11.x which will not get further stable release afaik. But quite often people build their own DPDK. In fact this came up as a request from Openvswitch upstream/Intel to allow such builds on Bionic. I'd ping those people about the bug and ask them to participate in the verification if this becomes an SRU. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1881942] Re: default configuration forwards sshd failures to port 7070
Hi John, I'm not sure what's happened here, but the default /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf contains no such snippet (a pristine copy is also stored in /usr/share/rsyslog/50-default.conf) and is managed via ucf. The contents of a pristine version are attached. Either another package you have installed has modified this config file (and looking at the failban package and postinstall script, I don't see anything there that would add anything like that. Doing a limited google search on the comment string "# Transform and forward data" turned up this recipe: https://devconnected.com /geolocating-ssh-hackers-in-real-time/ ; is it possible that this was added as part of a recipe you were following? Thanks. ** Attachment added: "50-default.conf" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rsyslog/+bug/1881942/+attachment/5386636/+files/50-default.conf ** Changed in: rsyslog (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to rsyslog in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1881942 Title: default configuration forwards sshd failures to port 7070 Status in rsyslog package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: ubuntu eoan (19.10) --- While investigating why my fail2ban client was not blocking the usual script-kiddie SSH attempts, I discovered that no sshd failures were appearing in /var/log/auth.log. Upon opening /etc/rsyslog.d/50-default.conf I discovered that sshd failures are being transformed and forwarded to localhost:7070. Here's the section of configuration: if $programname == 'sshd' then { if $msg startswith ' Failed' then { # Transform and forward data! action(type="omfwd" target="127.0.0.1" port="7070" protocol="tcp" template="ip-json") } stop } For me, nothing is bound to port 7070. I assume you have a good reason for such a default but it seems suboptimal to stop processing after forwarding. I commented out the stop line and restarted rsyslog and found that logs appeared in /var/log/auth.log and that my fail2ban is now banning IPs, as expected. I suggest changing the default configuration so that sshd failures reach /var/log/auth.log. Instead, for the past three months, since covid slowed down internet connectivity on Jio telecom in India, my Ubuntu internet connectivity has become erratic. In the early morning before 6 AM when I tether an Android phone to my laptop the internet connectivity indicator in the upper right-hand corner of the desktop shows the normal three boxes in a triangle and has decent speed. As network traffic increases the indicator turns to three gray boxes with a question mark in the middle and connectivity speed remains decent for a few websites, such as YouTube, Google Search and some others, but connectivity stops for most websites. Chromium, Vivaldi and Firefox browsers show the following error for such sites: “This site can’t be reached. askubuntu.com’s server IP address could not be found.” Oddly, in tri-booted Win 10 all websites open reliably 24/7, though sometimes at slow speeds. In Fedora 31 on the same hardware the behavior is identical to Ubuntu. I’ve tried changing the DNS settings in Ubuntu to use Cloud Flare, Google and even the DNS settings in Windows, but to no avail. On Ask Ubuntu there were no helpful comments except a suggestion to file a bug report. Ideally, connectivity without "unable to connect" errors on most websites should be available always. BTW, when I allowed data to be collected for this bug report it was in the early morning, so the connection was working properly and the network icon was the normal three boxes in a triangle with decent speed. If need be, I can send more information later when the "unable to connect" errors occur from Windows 10, or via email, which always works. The 2nd issue of #1871329 and the 1st issue of #1881659 have the same root cause as #1875597 [Impact] On the Dell machines with multi function audio jack, after installing the ubuntu 20.04 and if the audio driver is sof instead of legacy hda, the headphone/headset can't output sound automatically after users plug in a headphone/headset. This is different from ubuntu 18.04, on the 18.04, the headphone/headset could output sound automatically after plugging in the audio jack. [Fix] The root cause is the ucm2 conf defines 2 input devices: the Mic2 and Headset MIC, and the pulseaudio parse the input device Headset MIC first then Mic2, finally the audio jack is set to Mic2 mode, this make the audio jack can't output sound anymore. To fix it, let the audio jack set to Headset MIC mode by default (Headset MIC has higher priority than Mic2 in the ucm2 conf), to do so, let pulseaudio send the device event to module-switch-on-port-available by the order of priority in the umc2. [Test Case] applying the fix patch to pulseaudio, plug a headset/headphone to the multi function audio jack, play sound from headset/headphone, the sound could be heard from headset/headphone. [Regression Risk] Low, just do a small change to store the ucm devices by their priority. and upstream just merged this patch. (The program did display the man page correctly to the user.) It does not seem appropriate for AppArmor to report the man(1) program as having attempted to contact the NFS server directly, when it only tried to access an NFS-served file in the normal way. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1883694] Re: [SRU] New upstream release 2.64.3
Hello Iain, or anyone else affected, Accepted glib2.0 into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/2.64.3-1~ubuntu20.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users. If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed- focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification- failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed. Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping! N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days. ** Changed in: glib2.0 (Ubuntu Focal) Status: In Progress => Fix Committed ** Tags added: verification-needed verification-needed-focal -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1883694 Title: [SRU] New upstream release 2.64.3 Status in glib2.0 package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in glib2.0 source package in Focal: Fix Committed Bug description: [ Description ] Take this new upstrem stable release. +glib2.0 (2.64.3-1~ubuntu20.04.1) UNRELEASED; urgency=medium + + * No-change backport from unstable / groovy to focal. + + -- Iain Lane Tue, 16 Jun 2020 11:53:34 +0100 + +glib2.0 (2.64.3-1) unstable; urgency=medium + + * Team upload + + [ Laurent Bigonville ] + * Drop the libgio-fam package, and install the fam GIO plugin in +libglib2.0-0 on Hurd ports. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1870058] Re: Collect deleted users
Hello Didier, or anyone else affected, Accepted shadow into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shadow/1:4.8.1-1ubuntu5.20.04 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository. ** Changed in: shadow (Ubuntu Focal) Status: New => Fix Committed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to shadow in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1870058 Title: Collect deleted users Status in shadow package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in zsys package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in shadow source package in Focal: Fix Committed Status in zsys source package in Focal: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact] * Deleting users were preserving corresponding ZFS user datasets, without marking them for cleanup. * This is covered by dedicated use cases. [Test Case] 1. Ensure you have a foo user: 2. Run userdel --remove foo 3. Check that rpool/USERDATA/foo_ has its content removed and is not mounted 4. zfs get com.ubuntu.zsys:bootfs-dataset rpool/USERDATA/foo_ is not associated with current system dataset --- Other use case: 1.Ensure you have a foo user: 2. Run userdel foo 3. Check that rpool/USERDATA/foo_ still has its content, but is not mounted. 4. zfs get com.ubuntu.zsys:bootfs-dataset rpool/USERDATA/foo_ is not associated with current system dataset --- On a non ZFS installation : 1. Ensure you have a foo user: 2. Run userdel --remove foo 3. The user is deleted, no error occured. --- On a non ZFS installation with ZSys installed : 1. Ensure you have a foo user: 2. Run userdel --remove foo 3. The user is deleted, no error occured. [Regression Potential] * A new hidden command is added, triggered by userdel. * Tests are covering this new command and GRPC request. * The methodology is similar to useradd and usermod. The dependency between shadow and zsys is weak on purpose: - the ZSys hidden command is available and is a no-op if not called - if calling the command failed on userdel, nothing is done on ZSys side, but the code path is similar to ZSys not being installed or running on a non ZFS system. Ideally, we would untag them as part of GC so that we can clean them up later. However, those can be linked to states on other pools with same pool name than targetted one, and it will be hard to match them. Give a command for users to see them in status and then manually remove suspicious datasets ? The best I could do was: unix bind type=dgram, This is likely going to be important for snappy since snappy will have the concept of different coordinating snaps interacting via abstract sockets. What is interesting is that this seems to work ok for some things, eg: ./lightdm: unix (bind, listen) type=stream addr="@/com/ubuntu/upstart-session/**", ./lightdm: unix (bind, listen) type=stream addr="@/tmp/dbus-*", ./lightdm: unix (bind, listen) type=stream addr="@/tmp/.ICE-unix/[0-9]*", ./lightdm: unix (bind, listen) type=stream addr="@/dbus-vfs-daemon/*", ./lightdm: unix (bind, listen) type=stream addr="@guest*", Is this something in how firefox is setting up the socket? To reproduce, enable the firefox profile, start firefox and try to attend a google hangout. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1339932] Re: iptables -j LOG fails on 12.04 kernel 3.4.4-guest
Ubuntu 12.04 reached end of life. Now it is impossible to load my firewall rules using iptables-restore. The iptables-restore program croaks when trying to load the rules. While the error is reported on the line associated with the "COMMIT" statement, it appears that it is really failing when the "-j LOG" option is used. If I eliminate the "-j LOG" option on statements, it seems to work normally (like it did before). When I run lsmod, there is no "xt_LOG" or "ipt_LOG" module present. I cannot find the "xt_LOG.ko" or "ipt_LOG.ko" file anyplace, so I cannot load them manually. Not sure if this is a kernel bug or an iptables bug, but since it makes it impossible to load my firewall rules and leaves my system wide open, it's definitely a security issue. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1884455] Re: pulseaudio creates /root/.config/pulse/ before zfs-mount.service can mount the /root dataset
I *never* logged in graphically as root. I also do not use the root account: at most some 'sudo' commands from time to time. In the previous comments I had the root shell because I wanted to show as easy as possible that the whole content of the '/root' is only one symbolic link (fe1417537ae0451abdb60c5df28fe825-runtime -> /tmp/pulse-PKdhtXMmr18n) in the .config/pulse. And this link is created before the zfs-mount service has a chance to mount the 'real' root folder. OK, nevermind that, do you know any good way how to find out which process might be the culprit? Is there some place where I can look? or some pulseaudio related debug config that I can enable somewhere to trace what happens during system startup? Any hint or suggestion is greatly appreciated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1884455 Title: pulseaudio creates /root/.config/pulse/ before zfs-mount.service can mount the /root dataset Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I use 'zfs' and have /root as its own dataset which is mounted during startup by 'zfs-mount.service'. At one of the latest upgrades, the 'zfsutils-linux' package failed to update because the service 'zfs-mount' service had an issue and could not mount the '/root' dataset because the '/root' directory was not empty (temporary solution was to rename /root and call 'zfs mount' again). Further investigation shows that everytime at startup, the /root directory is created before the 'zfs-mount.service' has a chance to mount the 'root' dataset. The culprit seems to be something pulseaudio related: the content of /root folder after startup is as follows: - root@minighost:~# tree -a /root . ├── .cache └── .config └── pulse └── fe1417537ae0451abdb60c5df28fe825-runtime -> /tmp/pulse-PKdhtXMmr18n 4 directories, 0 files root@minighost:~# - Extra details: - Ubuntu release: - root@minighost:~# lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Release: 20.04 - - status of 'zfs-mount.service' is the following: - root@minighost:~# systemctl status zfs-mount ● zfs-mount.service - Mount ZFS filesystems Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/zfs-mount.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled) Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Sun 2020-06-21 12:56:08 CEST; 6h ago Docs: man:zfs(8) Process: 2062 ExecStart=/sbin/zfs mount -a (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE) Main PID: 2062 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE) Jun 21 12:56:08 minighost systemd[1]: Starting Mount ZFS filesystems... [Touch-packages] [Bug 1697375] Re: whoopsie's network-manager state querying is broken
Could you provide some more details like the version of whoopsie and network-manager you have installed? Additionally, following the test case and providing the output of systemctl status whoopsie, as I did in some of the comments, would be useful. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to whoopsie in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1697375 Title: whoopsie's network-manager state querying is broken Status in whoopsie package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in whoopsie source package in Xenial: Fix Released Status in whoopsie source package in Zesty: Fix Released Status in whoopsie source package in Artful: Fix Released Bug description: [Impact] whoopsie's querying of network-manager's state is broken and this results in whoopsie only being able to detect if the system is on-line when network manager's state changes. Subsequently, if one manually restarts whoopsie then whoopsie will stay off-line until an n-m state change. This can result in crashes not being uploaded. Additionally, whoopsie's systemd service file does not start after networking which is incorrect since it initially needs to query network-manager's state. (However, this ended up allowing crash reports to still be submitted because whoopsie would start first then the n-m's state would change and whoopsie would detect that.) Killing jackd and jackdbus frees cpu and system load drops from 100%/per CPU down to ~4% overall. Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report. Checking the logs I noticed there is a bad configuration option: /etc/ssh/sshd_config: line 111: Bad configuration option: sudo Could you please share what you have changed in your sshd_config file? I set up a brand new Xenial conatainer with openssh installed and there is no occurrence of 'sudo' in /etc/ssh/sshd_config. Since it seems likely to me that this is a local configuration problem, rather than a bug in Ubuntu, I am marking this bug as 'Incomplete'. However, if you believe that this is really a bug in Ubuntu, then we would be grateful if you would provide a more complete description of the problem with steps to reproduce, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to "New". [Touch-packages] [Bug 1697375] Re: whoopsie's network-manager state querying is broken
I think this bug still affects the current distribution. I see the same error messages on my Kubuntu 20.04 LTS. (However, this ended up allowing crash reports to still be submitted because whoopsie would start first then the n-m's state would change and whoopsie would detect that.) [Test Case] (state detection failure) 1) Manually restart the whoopsie service 2) Observe the following two messages: "Jul 14 14:48:09 speedy whoopsie[14137]: [14:48:09] Could not get the Network Manager state: Jul 14 14:48:09 speedy whoopsie[14137]: [14:48:09] GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: No such property 'state'" with the version of network-manager from -proposed you will not see these messages when restarting whoopsie. [Test Case] (starting after network-manager0 1) Boot your system 2) Observe the following in syslog: "Jul 17 06:46:47 speedy whoopsie[1156]: [06:46:47] Could not get the Network Manager state: Jul 17 06:46:47 speedy whoopsie[1156]: [06:46:47] GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.NetworkManager was not provided by any .service files " with the version of network-manager in -proposed you will not see the "NetworkManager was not provided" messages. [Regression Potential] Its possible that systems that were not submitting crash reports suddenly will and that will use some network bandwidth and Error Tracker resources. - Original Description - On artful crash reports are not uploaded automatically (several .crash files in /var/crash and no corresponding upload or .uploaded files) ProblemType: BugDistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10 Package: whoopsie 0.2.56 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.10.0-22.24-generic 4.10.15 Uname: Linux 4.10.0-22-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.5-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: GNOME Date: Mon Jun 12 09:39:29 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-09-03 (1377 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy Salamander" - Alpha amd64 (20130902) ProcEnviron: TERM=screen-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash RelatedPackageVersions: apport-noui N/ASourcePackage: whoopsie UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/whoopsie/+bug/1697375/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
