  Chrome graphics corruption

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Every time I wake up from hibernating my laptop Chrome and other
  applications crashes de view (but if I move the mouse over the image
  crash the view refresh at the same point as the mouse moves).

  That also happens within VSCode and other applications.

  The temporary solution I've found is kill chrome the application and
  start again.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1895490] [NEW] no destination host name is cups-browsed running

2020-09-13 Thread Enrique Pizana
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
Release:20.04
cups-browsed:
  Installed: 1.27.4-1
cups:
  Installed: 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1

I expect to be able to print on my Brother HL-L2350DW printer. I have no
problem printing to that printer via Windows 10. I also got this error
on Kubuntu 20.04.

What happened instead? I cannot get my pdf to print. Instead I get an error
that says 'No destination host name supplied by cups-browsed for printer
"Brother_HL_L2350DW_series", is cups-browsed running?'.

Installed: 2.3.1-9ubuntu1.1

  I expect to be able to print on my Brother HL-L2350DW printer. I have
  no problem printing to that printer via Windows 10. I also got this
  error on Kubuntu 20.04.

  What happened instead? I cannot get my pdf to print. Instead I get an error
that says 'No destination host name supplied by cups-browsed for printer
"Brother_HL_L2350DW_series", is cups-browsed running?'.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1894347] Re: Can't uninstall ubuntu-wallpapers and ubuntu-wallpapers-bionic without gnome-shell

2020-09-13 Thread Steve Langasek
ubuntu-desktop recommends ubuntu-wallpapers, it does not depend on it.
The removal is a result of ubuntu-desktop depending on gnome-shell
(which it should), plus gnome-shell depending on ubuntu-wallpapers.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1894347] Re: Can't uninstall ubuntu-wallpapers and ubuntu-wallpapers-bionic without gnome-shell

2020-09-13 Thread Steve Langasek
And the inclusion of ubuntu-wallpapers as a dependency of gnome-shell is
a deliberate design decision of the Ubuntu Desktop team. Your desire to
remove a package that the team has decided should be part of the Ubuntu
default experience is not a bug. Youi can pick your own wallpapers
without removing packages.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1895422] Re: Sound card not detected on Dell Latitude 9510 (Realtek ALC711)

2020-09-13 Thread Harrison Chen
Update: I was able to get the speakers to make sound by installing
linux-oem and by allowing updates from focal-proposed.

As expected, alsamixer now shows a lot of options. There are still a few
issues:
1) The audio is stuttery, most playback is too fast (e.g. YouTube or MP3s), and
other playback doesn't work at all (e.g. Zoom).
2) The microphone is not detected.

Further, lspci still doesn't show the Realtek card.

** Summary changed:

according to the specs
(https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/latitude-15-9510-2-in-1-laptop_owners-manual5_en-us.pdf)
 the sound controller/speaker should be Realtek ALC711-CG / Realtek ALC1309D.

  However, when I run lspci only the following device appears:
  00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Intel Corporation Device
[8086:02c8]

  In alsamixer, only the HDMI port appears.

  Actual result:
  * Vim is not launched, the error window is shown with text "There was an
error launching the application."

  Notes:

  the /usr/share/applications/vim.desktop refers to `vim` executable which is
not installed.
  The /usr/share/applications/vim.desktop came from

  ```
  $ dpkg -S /usr/share/applications/vim.desktop
  vim-common: /usr/share/applications/vim.desktop
  $ aptitude why vim-common
  i   vim-tiny Depends vim-common (= 2:7.4.1689-3ubuntu1.2)
  $ aptitude why vim-tiny
  i   ubuntu-minimal Depends vim-tiny
  So it is a dependency issue. Having vim.desktop without installed `vim`
executable is useless.
It can also be that the desktop environment you are using was designed
with an "idiotic" background color, right?
Anyway, the icon color can be changed:
Bug description:
  Often times, after receiving a crash report, if I click the "Continue"
  button it doesn't launch the browser for me to submit my crash to
  launchpad.net.
  Because of this, I'd always like to copy the crash report to my
  clipboard before clicking the continue button, so that I can manually
  provide this information into a bug report to launchpad.net.
  However, this option is not available.
  More over, there is absolutely *no way* to copy any text from this
  crash report's dialog window!
  1) You cannot ctrl-a to select all.
  2) Ctrl-c doesn't copy anything
  3) Right-clicking doesn't produce a context menu where you can select "Copy".
  This is an unfinished design. You should always give the user the
  ability to copy any text displayed in the UI.
  Next to the "Show/Hide details" button, I suggest adding a "Copy to
  Clipboard" button. If not this, please offer some way to achieve this
  from the GUI.
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1895454] [NEW] ibus indicator is unreadable, and the dropdown doesn't clarify what option is selected
2020-09-13 Thread php4fan
Public bug reported:
I don't know exactly what iBus is and what it does, but it has this
indicator on the bottom-right corner of the screen (whatever that area
is called) which shows what the currently selected input language is,
whatever that means. For example, on my system there are two choices
available: "Spanish - Spanish" and "English - English (US)", and
therefore the indicator shows either "ES" or "EN" depending on which one
is selected. Whatever the effect of that is.
The issue is, this indicator is designed with an idiotic choice of
colours: a very dark blue text on a very dark gray background, which
makes it mostly unreadable. I am not color blind nor visually impaired,
yet both colors are almost undistinguishable to me, and it costs me a
great effort to tell whether it says "EN" or "ES".
Additionally, adding to the idiocy, if I click on it to see which one is
actually selected, a dropdown unfolds where the two options are listed,
and the currently selected one is not highlighted in any way!! It seems
that the selected one is always shown first, which, assuming it's true,
I can only learn by changing the selection back and forth, when it could
have been as easy as showing the currently selected one in bold.
It looks as if every single possible step had been purposefully taken to
make this less useful, because even by doing it carelessly and without
putting any thought into it, it's unlikely that it could turn out so
ridiculously badly designed.
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1878194] Re: [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa
2020-09-13 Thread Olivier JUDITH
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1871794 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871794
Don't know if that can help but i moved to 5.8.1 kernel . It works well with my
previous workaround :
remove ibt- * from /lib/firmware/intel then copy all ibt-* from
linux-firmware_1.183.2_all.deb
It works fine until an apt-upgrade installs the new latest linux-
firmware 1.187.3 .
This time i do the first step again but nothing work . So i reinstalled
linux-firmware 1.187.3 and i deleted all ibt-12* then update-initramfs -u -k
`uname -r` .
It works now, until the next update i suppose.
This time no firmware it loaded at boot for bluetooth
Title:
  [Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC] Bluetooth headset not working when selecting
  HSP/HFP audio profile in Focal Fossa
Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Bug description:
  After updating the release from Ubuntu 19.10 to 20.04, the bluetooth
  headset doesn't work anymore when HSP/HFP profile is selected.
  With Ubuntu 19.10 the headset was working, there was audio and the mic
  was perfect for video conferencing.
  [Steps to reproduce]
  1. Connect headset (used blueman to setup and connect)
  1.1. When connected the system automatically selects A2DP profile
  2. Start playing audio (browser or other)
  3. Change profile to HSP/HFP with pavucontrol (or blueman)
  4. The audio disappears and microphone is not working (no input)
  5. Optionally switch back to A2DP and the audio comes back
  [Expected]
  When switching to HSP/HFP the audio should keep playing and the microphone
should start working
  [Notes]
  I tried with pavucontrol to switch between profiles while playing audio from
a browser.
  As side note there's a led in the headset that still blinks when switching
profile.
  I tried deleting the pulse folder under user's profile .config without
  success, also reinstalled packages and did a `sudo alsa force-reload`
  and rebooting several times.
  Note: not sure this is a duplicate of [Bug #1576559], it looks quite
  different since the profile changes but the headset stops working.
  [System info]
  Ubuntu: 20.04 - Linux 5.4.0-29-generic x86_64
  pulseaudio: 1:13.99.1-1ubuntu3
  bluez: 5.53-0ubuntu3
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1895429] [NEW] Chrome crashes
2020-09-13 Thread Danilo Buzar
Public bug reported:
Every time I wake up from hibernating my laptop Chrome and other
applications crashes de view (but if I move the mouse over the image
crash the view refresh at the same point as the mouse moves).
That also happens within VSCode and other applications.
The temporary solution I've found is kill chrome the application and
start again.
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1835660] Re: initramfs unpacking failed
2020-09-13 Thread Tony Thuitai
Applied the 'fix' from Comment #11 by vmc(vmclark) in Linux Mint 20. The
error is no longer logged. Some boots on my HP laptop with a 5400RPM
spinning Hard drive are slow but some are faster but some around the
same time with lz4. Hard disk performance on my laptop is better with
gzip than lz4. With lz4 the PC extremely lags when some apt packages are
being set up and configured and some final configurations after most or
all packages are installed, set up and configured but with gzip, the lag
never occurs and PC is usable. Hard disk read benchmarks are better with
gzip than with lz4. I think that lz4 is more suitable for an SSD than a
spinning hard drive
Bug description:
  "initramfs unpacking failed: Decoding failed",  message appears on
  boot up.
  If I "update-initramfs" using gzip instead of lz, then boot up passes
  without decoding failed message.
  ---
  However, we currently believe that the decoding error reported in
  dmesg is actually harmless and has no impact on usability on the
  system.
  Switching from lz4 to gzip compression, simply papers over the
  warning, without any benefits, and slows down boot.
  Kernel should be fixed to correctly parse lz4 compressed initrds, or
  at least lower the warning, to not be user visible as an error.
  After logging out, GNOME Online Accounts doesn't work the next time you log
in.
  This bug was a Release Blocker for Fedora 26. (Fedora 26 will be
  released in July).
  gnome-session is the only package updated in this update (not gnome-
  online-accounts).
  Test Case
  =
  From Ubuntu GNOME, click Settings>Online Accounts and add your Google
account. Install Evolution if it's not installed. Verified that your Google
account has synced.
  Log out. Log in. It may help to reproduce the bug log in to a
  different session (GNOME on Wayland instead of GNOME, or the other way
  around).
  Open Evolution. Verify that no errors are reported and that your
  Google account is still syncing.
  After installing the gnome-session update, I recommend rebooting once
  to clear any old lingering GNOME Online Accounts processes from
  previous sessions.
  Regression Potential
  This fix is the same as was accepted into Fedora 26. It is a workaround by
killing all the user's D-Bus sessions when the user logs out. This fix has been
backported from gnome-session 3.25.3. It has not been applied to the 3.24 git
branch upstream.
  Since 16.10 has almost reached its end of life (July), I am not
  proposing this fix there. I believe 16.10 is the first release
  affected since Ubuntu moved many more services to systemd user
  sessions in that release.
  The patch tries to only kill the D-Bus sessions if the session being
  logged out is the final remaining session for the user.
  The workaround makes sense to me. It seems similar to the
  KillUserProcesses option that was pushed into systemd to fix this kind
  of problem but it's more limited than the systemd method so hopefully
  it won't be as controversial.
