Title:
ubuntu dock bounces when on bottom and auto-hide is active

Status in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
While dock is locked to the bottom of the screen and hidden while not in use,
once un-hidden/activated it will bounce back and forth between hidden and
un-hidden. This is much more apparent or frequent when there is a window that
is either maximized or has a boarder near the bottom of the screen next to
where the dock will be activated at (Usually the bottom 10 or 20 pixels of the

This is potentially a GNOME issues or an "Ubuntu Dock", issue. However, I
don't have the time at the moment to diagnose this further.

2020-09-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
That's the wrong driver for your system which is why it doesn't install
properly.

The best and newest driver for Intel is the one you already have
installed:

  /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/modesetting_drv.so

If you really want to experiment with the old driver then the package to
install is:

  xserver-xorg-video-intel-hwe-18.04

but I don't recommend it.

Resuming from screen lock with a multimonitor setup causes all windows
to migrate to the "primary screen"

Status in compiz package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hardware:

  * Dell M3800; builtin screen is a 15", 1920x1080 screen;
  * an external display connected via HDMI, brand ASUS, same resolution;
  * the configuration via settings is that the screen on the laptop is on the
left and the ASUS screen on the right.

The bug did not appear with 15.10; only starting with 16.04 did this
start to happen. This is a laptop with a nVidia chipset, and it
doesn't matter whether I use nouveau or the proprietary nVidia driver.

When the screen locks after inactivity, or I lock it explicitly, and
then some time later (for some definition of "later") log back in, all
windows have migrated to the laptop screen. This is annoying since it
means I have to move all the windows over again.

I am not sure what details I should give. I only noticed that compared
to 15.10 which did not exhibit the bug, the ASUS screen takes longer
to "wake up" again... My hunch here is that the HDMI port was
  deactivated.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1895422] Re: Sound card not detected on Dell Latitude 9510 (Realtek ALC711)

2020-09-14 Thread Harrison Chen
I installed linux-oem-20.04 and also turned on focal-proposed updates
and did apt-get update && apt-get upgrade.

Though -- this was only enough to get it to recognize the speaker. The
pitch/video speed is still wrong, so it's not really quite usable.

I should correct something I said earlier: video playback is just too
fast across the board, e.g. on Youtube it's playing at maybe double the
speed and the pitch is high. However, even when I slow the playback
speed down to normal (by selecting 0.5x speed) the pitch is *still* too
high.

I suspect the wrong driver is being used for the sound card. It is
still detecting "00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation
Device 02c8" instead of the Realtek card.

according to the specs
(https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/latitude-15-9510-2-in-1-laptop_owners-manual5_en-us.pdf)
the sound controller/speaker should be Realtek ALC711-CG / Realtek ALC1309D.

However, when I run lspci only the following device appears:
00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Intel Corporation Device

In alsamixer, only the HDMI port appears.

I am running Ubuntu 20.04.01 LTS, kernel version 5.6.0-1027-oem
  (checked via uname -r).

I believe my sound card is not being detected by Ubuntu. I checked the
serial number and via BIOS (which I've upgraded to the latest version)
according to the specs
(https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/latitude-15-9510-2-in-1-laptop_owners-manual5_en-us.pdf)
the sound controller/speaker should be Realtek ALC711-CG / Realtek ALC1309D.

However, when I run lspci only the following device appears:
00:1f.3 Multimedia audio controller [0401]: Intel Corporation Device
[8086:02c8]

In alsamixer, only the HDMI port appears.

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 on a Huawei Matebook 13 AMD laptop which seems
to use a Realtek RTL8822CE Wifi/Bluetooth combo adapter.

I've been unsuccessful to pair with 2 different bluetooth mice.
However bluetooth seems to work with other devices. I'm under the
impression that this problem only happens with Bluetooth LE devices.

Trying to pair using bluetoothctl fails with the
  org.bluez.Error.AuthenticationCanceled error:

A quick google search for org.bluez.Error.AuthenticationCanceled
  reported nothing relevant.

Running btmon while trying to pair with the device gives me the

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1891657] Re: systemd 100% cpu usage apport-autoreport.service: Failed with result 'start-limit-hit'

2020-09-14 Thread Brian Murray
The output of both of the following commands would help us sort out what
is going on.

journalctl -b -u whoopsie

journalctl -b -u apport-autoreport

Thanks! Additionally, if this happening on a release other than Ubuntu
20.10 please let me know.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1892358] Re: autopkgtest success rate dropped inhibiting proposed migration

@paelzer To correct myself this (s390x) regression is not due to the
snapd seeding issue, but LP: #1895576 which may have been already fixed.

  Hi,
we had such cases in the past like bug 1817721 for bionic and maybe bug

to be flaky before, but got even worse.

(I'm sure LP will make this unreadable, but is is nice in monospace)

Whatever the root cause is - the success rate of these has reduced so
much that the (even formerly questionable) practice of retry-until-
  success won't work anymore.

I have run the two tests in a local VM and systemd-fsckd works there while
tests-in-lxd seems to trip over the old flaky fellow being "boot-and-services".

We had the discussion in the past, but I think I need to again bring
up the suggestion to skip "tests-in-lxd" and "systemd-fsckd" until
they are on reasonable success rates.

Title:
systemd-udevd regression: some renamed network interfaces stuck in
  "pending" state

Status in netplan.io package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in systemd package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  Summary:

In Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS and newer, using netplan.io and systemd-
networkd, in certain network configurations, renamed network
interfaces get stuck in "pending" state and are not configured
properly. On boot, system is stuck on "Wait for Network to be
  Configured" for 2 minutes.

  How to reproduce:

  1. Configure a machine (for example, a virtual machine) with two Ethernet
network cards. Make note of MAC addresses of these network cards.
  2. Set up netplan with a single configuration file, contents are in the
attached "00-static.yaml" file. Replace the MAC addresses to match your setup.
IP address configuration is omitted and is not necessary to reproduce the bug.
  3. Reboot the system.

  Expected outcome:

  1. System boots in a reasonable time
  2. First network interface (wan) is brought up, is not renamed, and is marked
as configured by networkd
  3. Second network interface (lan) is brought up, renamed, configured for
MTU=9000, and is marked as configured by networkd
  4. VLAN interface (vlan20) is brought up, renamed, configured for MTU=9000,
and is marked as configured by networkd

  Actual outcome:

  1. System boot is delayed by 2 minutes
  2. First network interface (wan) is configured as expected
  3. Second network interface (lan) is configured as expected
  4. VLAN interface (vlan20) seems to be configured as expected, but is stuck
in "pending" state according to networkctl list

  Test environment:

Hardware:

Virtual machine with the following configuration

* 4 amd64 CPU cores (also tested with a single core)
* 1 GB RAM
* 8 GB disk
* 2 network cards (vmxnet3 in VMware, virtio in Parallels)

Working as expected:

* [1] Ubuntu Server 19.10, kernel 5.3.0-62, netplan.io
  0.99-0ubuntu3~19.10.2, systemd+udev 242-7ubuntu3.11

Broken:

* [2] Ubuntu Server 19.10, kernel 5.3.0-62, netplan.io
0.99-0ubuntu3~19.10.2, systemd 242-7ubuntu3.11, udev 245.4-4ubuntu3.1
* [3] Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS, kernel 5.4.0-42, netplan.io
0.99-0ubuntu3~20.04.2, systemd+udev 245.4-4ubuntu3.1
* [4] Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS, kernel 5.4.0-42, netplan.io
0.99-0ubuntu3~20.04.2, systemd+udev vanilla upstream git e9769453
* [5] Ubuntu Server 20.04 LTS, kernel 5.4.0-42, netplan.io
0.99-0ubuntu3~20.04.2, systemd+udev vanilla upstream git v242
* [6] Ubuntu Server 20.10 daily-live, kernel 5.4.0-26, netplan.io
0.99-0ubuntu5, systemd+udev 245.6-3ubuntu3

[2] As noted above, issue was reproduced in 19.10 by upgrading ONLY
udev and libudev1 to ones shipped in focal-updates.

[4] It was also reproduced in vanilla upstream systemd, git master
commit e9769453. Just installed on top of existing systemd using "sudo
  ninja -C build install".

[5] Interestingly enough, issue also seems to exist in vanilla v242.
Either that, or the installation didn't replace the packaged systemd
properly. This may hint at some distribution-specific patch that got
  removed before 20.04.

This issue was reproduced in VMware ESXi 6.7U3, VMware Fusion 11.5.5
and Parallels Desktop 15.1.4. This leads me to believe that network
card drivers or virtualisation engines do not play part in the issue.

  Extra observations:

To make the example configuration (00-static.yaml) not get stuck in
"pending" state, any one of the following options helps:

  * Remove "set-name" parameter for "lan" interface
  * Remove "mtu" parameter for "lan" interface
  * Remove "wan" interface entirely

I got some data/logs for each of these scenarios for eoan [1] and
focal [3], as well as the original broken config, and put them
  together in the attached "parallels.tar.gz".

  Note about Apport:

Attached apport report was generated for test environment [2] above.

  Attachments:

  * 00-static.yaml: minimalistic broken netplan configuration example
  * parallels.tar.gz: various logs for eoan [1] and focal [3], as described in

Bug description:
  I recently got a new laptop, ThinkPad E14 G2 with AMD Ryzen 7 4700U
with Radeon Graphics. The live-system boots only with a screen
resolution of 800x600, which cannot be increased. The problem is that
the windows of the installer do not fit the screen so that the buttons
for "cancel", "back" and, most importantly, "continue" are not visible
on the screen. Thus any novice trying to install Ubuntu/Linux on a
recent laptop with AMD hardware will surely despair and be turned off
from using Ubuntu/Linux. I suggest that the windows of the installer
get a scroll bar to make it feasible to install Ubuntu in such cases.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1892358] Re: autopkgtest success rate dropped inhibiting proposed migration

2020-09-14 Thread Balint Reczey
@paelzer I agree that the fact, i.e. that systemd autpkgtest is failing in
Groovy/s390x, but this is a real regression which is not due to flakiness of
tests-in-lxd.
Please don't reopen this bug, but file a new one or find one already opened. As
I see this is still LP: #1878225. I'm filing a hint for it for now.

  Hi,
we had such cases in the past like bug 1817721 for bionic and maybe bug

pointing out the recent further drop in already flaky subtests.

In particular the tests "tests-in-lxd" and "systemd-fsckd" were known
to be flaky before, but got even worse.

Here stats of the last 40 runs, it might be a coincidences that this
is after 246-2ubuntu1 landed. Could as well be any other change

Whatever the root cause is - the success rate of these has reduced so

I have run the two tests in a local VM and systemd-fsckd works there while

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1887968] Re: Pairing with Bluetooth LE mice fails on a Huawei Matebook 13 AMD laptop with Realtek RTL8822CE Wifi/Bluetooth combo adapter

2020-09-14 Thread Paulo Horta
I'm having the same problem with an Huawei Matebook D14 2020 R5 with their
bluetooth mouse.
What I noticed using bluetoothctl is that the mouse device ID changes:
D9:73:24:7E:1A:0E (random)

I've seen 0E, 0F, 0C, 0B, etc.

I don't know if it's suppose to be like that or not.

  [bluetooth]# pair E5:5B:67:2A:09:76

A quick google search for org.bluez.Error.AuthenticationCanceled
  reported nothing relevant.

Running btmon while trying to pair with the device gives me the

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1895426] Re: package linux-firmware 1.187.3 failed to install/upgrade: installed linux-firmware package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2020-09-14 Thread Seth Forshee
Looks like a problem generating a new initramfs:

update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-5.4.0-47-generic
mv: cannot stat '/boot/initrd.img-5.4.0-47-generic.new': No such file or
directory

I don't see any information about what went wrong though. The disk isn't
full, so that's not the problem.

Adding initramfs-tools. I don't see any reason to think this is a linux-
firmware problem right now, so setting that to invalid.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1895528] [NEW] Setting in manpage of resolved.conf does not apply

2020-09-14 Thread Daniel von Obernitz
Public bug reported:

Hi,

it looks like there is an error in the manpage of resolved.conf.

Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS

systemd 245.4-4ubuntu3.2

The manpage of resolved.conf says:

DNSSEC=
   ...
   Defaults to "allow-downgrade"

So when I leave the resolved.conf un-edited, the value is

[Resolve]
...
#DNSSEC=no
...

so the default "allow-downgrade" should apply.

But instead DNSSEC is not used at all.

dig sshfp dnsprivacy.org +dnssec

; <<>> DiG 9.16.1-Ubuntu <<>> sshfp dnsprivacy.org +dnssec
;; global options: +cmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 24171
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 1

When I set the value hard-coded to "allow-downgrade"

[Resolve]
...
DNSSEC=allow-downgrade
...

the ad flag is shown.

dig sshfp dnsprivacy.org +dnssec

; <<>> DiG 9.16.1-Ubuntu <<>> sshfp dnsprivacy.org +dnssec

;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 41701
;; flags: qr rd ra ad; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 1

Best regards
Daniel

When user configures ipv4 as automatic and ipv6 as manual for bond interface

1)with ipv4 automatic and ipv6 manual configuration for ethernet or vlan

2020-09-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
You seem to be experiencing recurring kernel crashes in the 'nouveau'
driver.

Rather than waiting for a fix I suggest just installing the proprietary
Nvidia driver from the 'Additional Drivers' app.

** Summary changed:

- the screen is hanging frequently and i am unable to perform any typing work
on the screen due to the huge delay between my typing and characters appearing
on the screen
+ nouveau keeps crashing in nvkm_pmu_init

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1788321] Re: swapon failed: invalid argument

2020-09-14 Thread Simon Shapiro
Good News!

This bug is still here. Same error on

Dell Inspiron 13-7353, Ubuntu 20.04.1 (Upgraded from 18.05.5),
Kernel:

Linux NOMIS-inspiron 5.4.0-47-generic #51-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 4 19:50:52 UTC
2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Filesystem btrfs, Storage: Samsung 650 SSD (1TB).
Was working properly on 18.04, and 20.04.1 on earlier kernels.
I did not try late kernels.

It seems like I have the worst combination of configuration but
innocently walked into this .

I reduced vm.swapiness to ZERO. in the hope I will encouner fewer
crashes.

Please advise.

Thanx.

  Description:
When I try to mount my swap partition or my swap file, I get "swapon failed:
invalid argument" .

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) sudo bash
  2) dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=1024 count=524288
  3) mkswap /swapfile
  4) chown root:root /swapfile
  5) chmod 0600 /swapfile
  6) swapon /swapfile
Last execution returns "swapon failed: invalid argument" .

I'm almost sure it's a bug because I have no problems using Linux
4.15.0-29-generic instead of Linux 4.15.0-32-generic. Also, no
problems using Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Live CD.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1892358] Re: autopkgtest success rate dropped inhibiting proposed migration

2020-09-14 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Groovy
It seems this isn't over for groovy, it was mentioned that the issues in the
subtest "tests-in-lxd" would be related to some fstab issues in those issues.
But recently all architectures, but s390x recovered. I assume that the fstab
issue is fixed but something else surfaces now.

groovy
  s390x
tests-in-lxd   (F 100% f  0% S  0% B  0% => P  0%/)
FF
boot-and-services  (F  3% f  0% S  0% B  0% => P 96%/)
.F
systemd-fsckd  (F 26% f 73% S  0% B  0% => P  0%/)
fFFfFF

We see when systemd-fsckd was marked flaky (F->f), but tests-in-lxd
continues to perma-stop any migration depending on systemd.

Currently this holds back a lot of things in groovy, it seems to be:
qemu/1:5.0-5ubuntu7 chiark-tcl/1.3.4ubuntu3 cmake-extras/1.5-1ubuntu1
cstore-fdw/1.7.0-1 dateparser/0.7.4-1 dpdk/19.11.4-1 gem2deb/1.2.1
glibc/2.32-0ubuntu2 gnome-desktop3/3.37.90.1-1ubuntu1 grep/3.4-1
libnss-nis/3.1-0ubuntu3 libnss-nisplus/1.3-0ubuntu3 link-grammar/5.8.0-1
mksh/59b-1 natsort/7.0.1-1 openconnect/8.10-1 orafce/3.13.4-1
pandas/1.0.5+dfsg-3 pango1.0/1.46.1-1 php-nesbot-carbon/2.32.2-1
php-shellcommand/1.6.1-1 php-twig/2.13.0-1 postgresql-12/12.4-1
postgresql-common/216 postgresql-multicorn/1.4.0-2 reprotest/0.7.15
snapd/2.46.1+20.10 symfony/4.4.11+dfsg-1ubuntu1 systemd/246.4-1ubuntu1
tracker/2.3.4-1build1 vis/0.6-3

Therefore re-opening the groovy task, this isn't over yet :-/
@rbalint please let us know if you know more details about it already.

Bug description:
  Hi,
we had such cases in the past like bug 1817721 for bionic and maybe bug
1892130 is about the same as well. There were more but I didn't want to search
for all of them - what I checked is that there are no open ones clearly
pointing out the recent further drop in already flaky subtests.

In particular the tests "tests-in-lxd" and "systemd-fsckd" were known
to be flaky before, but got even worse.

Here stats of the last 40 runs, it might be a coincidences that this
is after 246-2ubuntu1 landed. Could as well be any other change
