HDMI sound output disappears after sleep

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I am using an Nvidia graphics card with HDMI output. The sound output
choice for HDMI is missing from either pavucontrol or the GNOME
settings sound settings after waking the computer up from sleep.
Running `pacmd list-cards` does show the HDMI sound output listed. I
can bring the output back as a choice if I run `pulseaudio -k`, but I
will lose the choice to select this output if I put the computer to

I was wrong. You're referring to AR3011 connected to usb bus. But please
still try the rfkill command above.

Bug description:
So, I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my laptop with Ryzen 7 4800h processor and
Nvidia gtx 1650 graphic card..
But i wasn't able to make my external monitor work..
At first it wasn't even recognized, but after I updated kernel to version
5.7.1 and with(only with latest) nvidia drivers 450 it recognized external
monitor and I get options when I press SUPER KEY + P that I can switch screens..
But even though I pick external monitor and I see that it switch to it,
monitor is turned on, but I have only black screen and can't do anything..

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1541392] Re: AR3011 Bluetooth not starting after being stoped (but detected)

2020-10-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 16.10 (yakkety) reached end-of-life on July 20, 2017.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We appreciate that this bug may be old and you might not be interested
in discussing it any more. But if you are then please upgrade to the
latest Ubuntu version and re-test. If you then find the bug is still
present in the newer Ubuntu version, please add a comment here telling
us which new version it is in.

** Changed in: bluez (Ubuntu)

Title:
AR3011 Bluetooth not starting after being stoped (but detected)

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  kernel : 4.2.0-27
  onboard bluetooth controller : AR3011
The Bluetooth was working great. I deactivated the bluetooth via the
indicator, and then, impossible to start it. Neither from the settings
bluetooth interface, neither via hciconfig. The service was of course started
without problems.
The device was well recognized and started, could find which usb port and
everything. However hciconfig could not see it:

  $ hciconfig -a hci0

  hci0: Type: BR/EDR Bus: USB
BD Address: 00:00:00:00:00:00 ACL MTU: 0:0 SCO MTU: 0:0
  DOWN
  RX bytes:0 acl:0 sco:0 events:0 errors:0
  TX bytes:12 acl:0 sco:0 commands:4 errors:0

Of course I restarted the system, tried purging all bluetooth related
packages, tried installing blueman. Nothing would make it start.
Finally I found this thread of arch linux :
  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=171357

So basically I shut down the computer, waited a while, started the computer
and the bluetooth is functional again.
I will try reproducing the bug. I tried, but it did not happen again. Maybe
it's because I was listening music, lost signal, came back to the pc and closed
bluetooth.

Any thoughts of what is this caused by?

Title:
X11 applications do not refresh in a timely fashion, resulting in
screen corruption, when using custom xrandr scaling

Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Many X11 applications do not refresh in a timely fashion, and the
window must be disturbed to achieve refresh. Typical disturbances
causing refresh are: typing in the window, interacting with the mouse,
  focusing a different application, etc.

I have seen this behavior in:
  * Firefox
  * Electron apps (Slack, Keybase, Element, Discord)
  * Zoom
  * Possibly Emacs (see #1893969)
  * Xournal
  * VMware Player (both the host GUI and the guest screen)

I am attaching a video of this behavior in Firefox; you can see that
when I close a tab, the tab that takes its place paints only
partially, and even mousing with tooltip popups and typing in a text
entry cause only partial corrections. Mousing away from the Firefox
window to focus a window on a different display causes a complete
repaint. (Mousing to another window on the _same_ display would also
cause a repaint, it just so happens that I focused a window on a
  different display).

I can reproduce this problem with no compositor running, or with
  compton running.

This bug is trivial to reproduce and happens nearly constantly. I
have trouble taking screen shots / videos of the behavior on this
machine only because this is a workstation that I use for teaching a
University course and much of the work that I do on it would disclose
student information if shared. I will try to produce more evidence if
required, but it requires some time to do so.

My desktop configuration is three displays. The displays are arranged
in a horizontal row. The left and center monitors are external Full
HD DisplayPort monitors, daisy chained, and the right monitor is the
internal display on my laptop. The left display is DP-2-1, which is
connected to the center monitor by a DisplayPort daisy chain. The
center display is DP-2-8, which is connected to the laptop via
DisplayPort over USB 3 (USB C). The right display is eDP-1. All
three displays have a logical resolution of 3840x2160. The left and
center displays are scaled to Full HD, and the eDP-1 runs at its
native resolution. I use the following xrandr command to configure
  this:

  HIX=3840
  HIY=2160
  HI=${HIX}x${HIY}
  xrandr --fb $(($HIX * 3))x$HIY \
 --output eDP-1 --auto --panning ${HI}+$(($HIX * 2))+0 \
 --output DP-2-8 --auto --panning ${HI}+$HIX+0 \
 --scale-from $HI --left-of eDP-1 --scale 2x2 \
 --output DP-2-1 --auto --panning $HI+0+0 \
 --scale-from $HI --left-of DP-2-8 --scale 2x2

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected

2020-10-04 Thread Curtis Schroeder
Well, I see the 20.04.1 live image still has a problem installing
(NVIDIA?) drivers during the initial install that was in the original
20.04 release. I shall try again without the drivers install option. I
was trying a minimal clean install this time if that makes any
difference for the analysis.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1898447] Re: HDMI sound output disappears after sleep

2020-10-04 Thread Umayr Saghir
** Description changed:

I am using an Nvidia graphics card with HDMI output. The sound output
choice for HDMI is missing from either pavucontrol or the GNOME settings
sound settings after waking the computer up from sleep. Running `pacmd
list-cards` does show the HDMI sound output listed. I can bring the
output back as a choice if I run `pulseaudio -k`, but I will lose the
choice to select this output if I put the computer to sleep, leaving me
only with the S/PDIF output from my motherboard.

I didnt see this issue prior to what I suspect was an `apt upgrade`.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected

2020-10-04 Thread Jon Brase
I have encountered this issue trying a fresh install of Kubuntu 20.04.1.
The entire reason that I tried a fresh install is that trying to upgrade
my existing system from Ubuntu Mate 18.04 to 20.04 resulted in the
upgrade finishing with errors and leaving my system in an unusable state
(fortunately, I have a full backup, so rolling back a failed upgrade is
painless, other than the time consumed). I don't know if the root cause
of both issues is the same or not.

My graphics card is an NVidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti. /var/log/syslog from
the failed ground-up installation is attached (I attempted installing
twice in the live session with failures both times). I will attempt to
find time to retry the upgrade and attach the syslog from that so we can
see if the root cause is the same (I have already rolled the filesystem
back from backup for the previous attempts, so I don't have a syslog for
them).

The end result is that I have no upgrade path from 18.04 to 20.04.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1898417] [NEW] Suspend - keyboard/mouse not waking the system up

2020-10-04 Thread Sebastian
Public bug reported:

Presumably mouse and keyboard (both uhci/ehci connected) lose power when
system suspends (LEDs are off), and so they are unable to wake the
system up despite `cat /sys/bus/usb/devices/$bus-$port/power/wakeup`
returning `enabled` (by default)

Expected results:
The system wakes up from suspension by clicking a mouse button or pressing a
keyboard key.
Actual results:
The system doesn't respond to keyboard/mouse, only to its power button. The
peripherals seem to have lost power, as LEDs are off even after pressing
buttons/keys.
