[Touch-packages] [Bug 1909612] Re: Closing laptop lid doesn't suspend with external monitor plugged in

2020-12-29 Thread Dustin Nisbet-Jones
Hi Chris,

I see your point but would counter that having the option ticked for
'Suspend when laptop lid is closed' and not having it do that when an
external monitor is plugged in is more a bug than a feature.

I agree that this is actually a feature some users may want but this
should be something which can be controlled by the user via a toggle
with the default behaviour being consistent with lid closed = suspend
regardless of whether there is a monitor plugged in or not.

If having a mouse plugged in prevented the laptop from suspending with
the lid closed, this would certainly be a bug.

Thanks for your response.

2020-12-29 Thread Plamen
I`m unable to reproduce it anymore. Except in the case for the openvpn
source from this address: http://build.openvpn.net/debian/openvpn/stable

Managed to see the error when opening the software update from terminal
via `software-properties-gtk` -> in the attached file and below.

Apparently there is some issue with the openvpn repo and the error
handling in such cases is failing somehow:

```
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1909612] Re: Closing laptop lid doesn't suspend with external monitor plugged in
2020-12-29 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.
Bug reporting is mostly about finding & fixing problems thus preventing
future users from hitting the same bug.
I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709
I can imagine many users using an external monitor and expecting their system
to continue operation as they watch movie on external monitor, or work using
external/dock keyboard, and being annoyed if their system suspended on lid
closure.  I personally see your issue as a support one, as not everyone will
want the lid closure to suspend laptop.
This happens to me also. Weirdly, only Twitter videos seem affected.
It's possible it happens elsewhere, but I haven't seen it yet.
Bug description:
  Opening certain applications/websites at the same time as Firefox
  causes the audio to become garbled.
  The audio sounds distorted with an echo.
  Certain actions are guaranteed to cause this, but it can also
  happening when only running instances of Firefox.
  I've been able to consistently cause this by launching Zoom from a link
within Firefox.
  This does not occur when using Chrome.
  The only way to fix the issue is to shut down all audio-related
[Touch-packages] [Bug 1881893] Re: Gtk3 crashes, icon "image-missing" not in theme Symbolic
2020-12-29 Thread bootchk
This is a packaging issue.  The icon for "missing", which is in package
gnome-icon-theme, MUST be installed with GTK.
The icon for "missing" is the fallback icon for GTK whenever it can't find an
icon.
If GTK package does not depend on gnome-icon-theme, then GTK will crash when it
needs  the icon for "missing."
** Package changed: ubuntu => gnome-icon-theme (Ubuntu)
Title:
  Gtk3 crashes, icon "image-missing" not in theme Symbolic
Status in gnome-icon-theme package in Ubuntu:
  New
Bug description:
  Context:
  Ubuntu 19.04.
  I am a developer running a Gimp plug-in (Python) in the Gimp app.
  Opening a Gtk.FileChooserButton widget.
  Expected widget to appear.
  What happens: widget is garbled and console shows:
  Gtk:ERROR:../../../../gtk/gtkiconhelper.c:494:ensure_surface_for_gicon:
  assertion failed (error == NULL): Icon 'image-missing' not present in
  theme Symbolic (gtk-icon-theme-error-quark, 0)
  with a stack trace and opportunity to exit the plugin. Gimp continues
  to run (since plugin is separate process.)
  See the issue filed against Gimp:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/2029.
  That report is on Gimp in Ubuntu 18.04.  Still present with the latest Gimp
(built myself) on Ubuntu19.04.
  Installing the package gnome-icon-theme fixes the issue.  As reported
  in Gimp #2029
  It might be a packaging issue:
  a missing dependency of the gtk3 package on package gnome-icon-theme.
  Since package Gtk3 can crash unless gnome-icon-theme is also installed.
  Probably it is a weakness of Gtk3, and would best be fixed there.
  I.E. its a circularity issue: Gtk3 should not depend on an "image-missing"
icon being in a theme to resolve the problem of an icon missing from the theme.
  Or the Gtk3 developers have failed to convey a dependency to distributors
like Ubuntu.
  Installations that really succeeded would then fail because APT could not
point, because everything did work out anyway.
  So what we do is change that to a warning.
  [Test case]
  Not available right now. Issues can flare up and then disappear again.
  [Regression potential]
  It's imaginable that we missed something somewhere and some path that checked
for a set error doesn't check it anymore, and we report success when we hit an
error, but it seems unlikely.
  Behavior of --simulate changes. This used to fail before as well, and
  will now only produce a warning. We don't believe that is a reason of
  concern.
  [Groovy SRU]
  The groovy SRU is a sync of the 2.1.11 micro release from Debian unstable
which also incorporates changes to the documentation: A typo fix, replacing
focal with groovy in examples, and minor Dutch manual pages translation updates.
  We do not have test cases for the documentation changes, and we do not
  consider there to be a huge regression potential. As long as they
  build, they should be readable - maybe some words are wrong in the
  translation, who knows.
