[Touch-packages] [Bug 1909729] Re: Remaining time while running "sudo apt upgrade"

2020-12-30 Thread Francisco Milán
Hi Chris,

Thanks a lot for your guidance in using the apport tool, I ran the command
that you provided and now I see some details were automatically added to the
bug report.
In future bug reports, I'll try to follow your instructions. My apologies for
not using the apport command before, but this is just the third bug that I've
reported ever, and I was not familiar with the use of this tool.

Best regards,

Paco Milan.

Title:
Remaining time while running "sudo apt upgrade"

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi there,

After running "sudo apt upgrade" in a Terminal window I noticed
that the remaining time for 1 minute is displayed as "60s", I think to
keep consistency this would need to be displayed as "1min 0s" since at
some point I also saw the remaining time displayed as "5min 0s" (refer
to the attached images). Going even further I would recommend removing
the "0s" portion from the remaining time when applicable, e.g.
  displaying only "5min" instead of "5min 0s", "1min" instead of "1min
  0s", and so on.

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal Fossa).

  Best regards,

  Paco Milán.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1909729

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1909703] Re: sound garbled in 20.10 with intel hdmi audio

2020-12-30 Thread Tessa
Interestingly, if I run my monitor off my NVidia card, and the audio off
the Intel HDMI, then the Intel audio works correctly. it's only when my
display is connected to the Intel DisplayPort alongside my receiver on
the Intel HDMI that it totally messes up.

Title:
sound garbled in 20.10 with intel hdmi audio

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
I've been having ongoing issues with pulse and my nvidia video card
doing hdmi audio, so I thought I'd try using my builtin intel HDMI
port for audio instead. However, when I switch the HDMI cable to that
port, and select it in pulse, all the audio sounds crackly and
garbled, like it's trying to play twice as many samples per second as
it should. given this is with open source drivers, this may be a
kernel issue and not a pulse issue, but I'm not sure how to fully
  determine that.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 257135] Re: notify-send(1) can't replace an existing notification

2020-12-30 Thread WinEunuchs2Unix
It would be nice to have the patch applied both the standard call from
bash as well as the python libraries (2.7.12 and 3.x).

notify-send(1) can't replace an existing notification

  Confirmed
Status in libnotify package in Debian:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: libnotify-bin

  Ubuntu 8.04, libnotify-bin 0.4.4-3build1.

notify-send(1) is very useful but it doesn't tell me the notification
ID that's been created, nor does it let me specify that to replace an
  earlier notification. See http://www.galago-
  project.org/specs/notification/0.9/x408.html#command-notify, in
particular the replaces_id parameter and the return value.

I'd like to be able to use it something like

  id=$(notify-send --show-id foo)
  sleep 60
  notify-send --replace $id bar

This would be great for long-running shell scripts that are monitoring
  something.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1909663] Re: atril on opening ptc40.ps.bz2 file crashed with SIGSEGV in INT_cairo_surface_set_device_scale()

2020-12-30 Thread Norbert
Also happens on 18.04 LTS - it is bug 1909666 .

All these "unknown VMA" stuff started to appear after Spectre and
Meltdown "fixes".

So this bug came from back-end libraries and not from Atril itself.

** Also affects: glib2.0 (Ubuntu)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1908699] Re: New bugfix release 20.2.6

2020-12-30 Thread Timo Aaltonen
I've tested this on Radeon Pro W5700 by playing games via Steam and some
Blender use etc, and Intel Kaby Lake. No issues found whatsoever.

  New bugfix release 20.2.6

Status in mesa package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in mesa source package in Focal:
  Fix Committed
Status in mesa source package in Groovy:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
  [Impact]

This is the last point-release of the 20.2.x-series, we should put it
in groovy so latest bugfixes would get there, and for focal because
that would minimize the risk of regressions when going from 20.0.x to
  20.2.x.

  [Test case]

Install the updates, test desktop use and some basic games etc on at
  least AMD and Intel hw.

  [Where things could go wrong]

It's possible that some apps (like games) might regress on some hw,
but there should not be a big risk for more wider bugs appearing in
this update, since upstream and vendor (Intel) CI machinery have
  tested these.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1833322] Re: Consider removing irqbalance from default install on desktop images

2020-12-30 Thread Young Montana
I am using Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS 64 bit on an Intel mobile CPU and Gnome
3.36.8 (Kernel 5.4.0-58-generic).

irqbalance is still installed by default.

The frequently used Gnome Extension "cpufreq" shows a permanent warning
that irqbalance is active.

If I uninstall irqbalance the warning is gone.

Since the warning is OK in "cpufreq" the underlying reason should be
fixed IMHO (= removing irqbalance from default install on desktop
images)

  Issue/Bug Description:

  as per konkor/cpufreq#48 and http://konkor.github.io/cpufreq/faq
  /#irqbalance-detected

irqbalance is technically not needed on desktop systems (supposedly it
is mainly for servers), and may actually reduce performance and power
savings. It appears to provide benefits only to server environments
that have relatively-constant loading. If it is truly a server-
oriented package, then it shouldn't be installed by default on a
desktop/laptop system and shouldn't be included in desktop OS images.

Steps to reproduce (if you know):

This is potentially an issue with all default installs.

  Expected behavior:

  n/a

  Other Notes:

I can safely remove it via "sudo apt purge irqbalance" without any
apparent adverse side-effects. If someone is running a situation where
they need it, then they always have the option of installing it from
  the repositories.
