[Touch-packages] [Bug 1909729] Re: Remaining time while running "sudo apt upgrade"
Hi Chris, Thanks a lot for your guidance in using the apport tool, I ran the command that you provided and now I see some details were automatically added to the bug report. In future bug reports, I'll try to follow your instructions. My apologies for not using the apport command before, but this is just the third bug that I've reported ever, and I was not familiar with the use of this tool. Public bug reported: I've been having ongoing issues with pulse and my nvidia video card doing hdmi audio, so I thought I'd try using my builtin intel HDMI port for audio instead. However, when I switch the HDMI cable to that port, and select it in pulse, all the audio sounds crackly and garbled, like it's trying to play twice as many samples per second as it should. given this is with open source drivers, this may be a kernel issue and not a pulse issue, but I'm not sure how to fully determine that. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1908699] Re: New bugfix release 20.2.6
I've tested this on Radeon Pro W5700 by playing games via Steam and some Blender use etc, and Intel Kaby Lake. No issues found whatsoever. ** Tags removed: verification-needed verification-needed-focal verification-needed-groovy ** Tags added: verification-done verification-done-focal verification-done-groovy -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1908699 Title: New bugfix release 20.2.6 Status in mesa package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in mesa source package in Focal: Fix Committed Status in mesa source package in Groovy: Fix Committed Bug description: [Impact] This is the last point-release of the 20.2.x-series, we should put it in groovy so latest bugfixes would get there, and for focal because that would minimize the risk of regressions when going from 20.0.x to 20.2.x. [Test case] Install the updates, test desktop use and some basic games etc on at least AMD and Intel hw. [Where things could go wrong] It's possible that some apps (like games) might regress on some hw, but there should not be a big risk for more wider bugs appearing in this update, since upstream and vendor (Intel) CI machinery have tested these. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1833322] Re: Consider removing irqbalance from default install on desktop images
I am using Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS 64 bit on an Intel mobile CPU and Gnome 3.36.8 (Kernel 5.4.0-58-generic). irqbalance is still installed by default. The frequently used Gnome Extension "cpufreq" shows a permanent warning that irqbalance is active. If I uninstall irqbalance the warning is gone. Since the warning is OK in "cpufreq" the underlying reason should be fixed IMHO (= removing irqbalance from default install on desktop images) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to ubuntu-meta in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1833322 Title: Consider removing irqbalance from default install on desktop images Status in ubuntu-meta package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: as per https://github.com/pop-os/default-settings/issues/60 Distribution (run cat /etc/os-release): $ cat /etc/os-release NAME="Pop!_OS" VERSION="19.04" ID=ubuntu ID_LIKE=debian PRETTY_NAME="Pop!_OS 19.04" VERSION_ID="19.04" HOME_URL="https://system76.com/pop; SUPPORT_URL="http://support.system76.com; BUG_REPORT_URL="https://github.com/pop-os/pop/issues; PRIVACY_POLICY_URL="https://system76.com/privacy; VERSION_CODENAME=disco UBUNTU_CODENAME=disco Related Application and/or Package Version (run apt policy $PACKAGE NAME): $ apt policy irqbalance irqbalance: Installed: 1.5.0-3ubuntu1 Candidate: 1.5.0-3ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1.5.0-3ubuntu1 500 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu disco/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ apt rdepends irqbalance irqbalance Reverse Depends: Recommends: ubuntu-standard gce-compute-image-packages Issue/Bug Description: as per konkor/cpufreq#48 and http://konkor.github.io/cpufreq/faq /#irqbalance-detected irqbalance is technically not needed on desktop systems (supposedly it is mainly for servers), and may actually reduce performance and power savings. It appears to provide benefits only to server environments that have relatively-constant loading. If it is truly a server- oriented package, then it shouldn't be installed by default on a desktop/laptop system and shouldn't be included in desktop OS images. Steps to reproduce (if you know): This is potentially an issue with all default installs. Expected behavior: n/a Other Notes: I can safely remove it via "sudo apt purge irqbalance" without any apparent adverse side-effects. If someone is running a situation where they need it, then they always have the option of installing it from the repositories.
