45-latin.conf and 60-latin.conf have contradictory aliases settings. The
superseding one, 45-latin.conf is breaking the 'monospace' alias font when
combining diacritics are being used by prioritizing Bitstream Vera Sans Mono
over DejaVu Sans Mono.
DejaVu Sans Mono has characters and OpenType features Bitsteam Vera Sans Mono
doesn't have. It doesn't make sense to prioritize Vera. This breaks things like
"e" + U+0301, where 'e' comes from Vera and U+0301 comes from DejaVu.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1929340] Re: Black screen ubuntu hirsute live usb

2021-05-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I think most likely you have a faulty USB stick or a bad copy of the
ISO. A very common problem I encounter myself... Please try with a
different USB stick.

Also, after downloading a new version of Ubuntu you should verify it
using the 'sha256sum' tool and compare the result to what the download
page says it should be.

Also, since you have modern hardware we recommend upgrading to Ubuntu

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1929209] Re: external monitor goes black for several seconds at a time, randomly

2021-05-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Issues like this are almost always caused by
a bad cable, bad connection, or by using intermediate adapters. So
ideally please try a new cable.

Also, next time the problem happens please then run:

  journalctl -b0 > journal.txt

and attach the resulting text file here.

   * Dell introduces new function called Dell Privacy, it utilizes
hardware mute to control audio and camera. The commit map the reported
key event to mic mute for making userspace can work as before, "Mic
Mute" dialog pop-up while the mic mute button is pressed.

  [Test Plan]

   * Use a Dell machine, which has Dell privacy function, and press mic mute
key.
GUI will pop up "Mic Mute" icon.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * This change adds key event mapping in hwdb, which won't impact
  other hardware.

any regression would likely cause problems with key(s) from the
specific dell kb matching the modified listing in the hw db.

  [Other Info]

   * The change can only work with kernel commit on some specific hardware, ex.
Latitude 9520. The commit series is
"hardware-privacy-implementation-for-dell-laptop" in alsa-devel kernel tree.
     https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/alsa-devel/list/?series=465445
   * This change has been verified on Dell machine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1928360] Re: Switch to Fcitx 5 for Chinese

2021-05-23 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Seth: I suppose that the DENIED file I attached in comment #7 does not
help much.

Fcitx 5 is a separate process, i.e. /usr/bin/fcitx5 as opposed to
/usr/bin/fcitx. When in Chromium it behaves as if fcitx5 does not exist,
even if the process runs and I can use fcitx5 in other applications. I
can't even switch to a fcitx5 input method engine when in Chromium, let
alone use such an input engine for typing. Maybe that explains why
nothing fcitx5 related is reflected as DENIED lines.

I'm thinking that maybe there is a need to create the fcitx5 and
fcitx5-strict abstractions using the already existing fcitx and fcitx-
strict abstractions as models.
