Since the upstream not yet accepted those patches, the regression
  potential may quite high.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1923232] Re: SRU of LXC 4.0.6 to focal (upstream bugfix release)

2021-05-24 Thread Stéphane Graber
Hello Serge, or anyone else affected,

Accepted lxc into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/1:4.0.6-0ubuntu1~20.04.1 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

with focal or Yaru they should open a new bug with a screenshot of
whatever is bothering them.

In bug 1895301 sombody wrote "We just need one person experiencing the bug to
open a bug with the relevant system details automatically attached." - so I did.

I have a similar problem with a 21:9 monitor with a resolution of
  2560x1080. It's a LG 25UB55-B on a HP docking station A7E32A, DVI
output with adapter to HDMI, HDMI cable and input to the monitor via
HDMI. Laptop is an HP Elitebook 8440p (Intel i5-520 with Intel HD
Graphics (ILK)), internal display with 1366*768 is in use as well.

I had Ubuntu 18.04 LTS before until January this year, with automatic
updates on, so presumably up to date. There it worked fine out of the
box, i.e. since first install I had the full resolution of 21:9 in
  2560x1080 on my external monitor.

I didn't change any hardware, just installed Ubuntu 20.04 from DVD, an it
stopped working.
  I got only 16:9 with 1920x1080.
I've updated to Ubuntu 20.10, tried Ubuntu 21.04 (from DVD as well), changed
cable and adapter, nothing helped.
Did some reseach with google and found the mentioned bug 1895301. The
workaround worked, I got full resolution of 2560x1080 on the external display.
It is not permanent, so at the moment of filing this bug, I'm still back on
the 16:9 with 1920x1080.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1926265] Re: slapd enter in infinite loop on sched_yield syscall

2021-05-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
If I understand the work so far, this issue is only present in Bionic,
since later releases already have the release (and the subsequent fix)?

Sounds like the next action here would be to SRU the changes packaged in
https://launchpad.net/~sergiodj/+archive/ubuntu/openldap-
bug1926265/+packages. A possible catch though is that the SRU process
dislikes introducing known regressions, and it sounds like this revert
patch would do so. So it may be worth discussing this with an SRU
administrator first. If introducing the regression is a no-go, then
that means a bionic-specific fix would need developed based on
https://github.com/openldap/openldap/commit/735e1ab14bb055344b4e767a216aa410aa7d1503.

2021-05-24 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
This looks mostly ok but the merge doesn't seem to account for the
apport hooks being in debian now -- the changelog still lists it as a
difference, the package-hooks dir is in the .dirs files twice, and I
think they might be installed twice.

yes, the SRU process does require all changes to be applied in all
affected releases, or at least all newer affected releases (meaning, if
we want to patch focal, we have to patch groovy and hirsute too).

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Dell introduces new function called Dell Privacy, it utilizes
hardware mute to control audio and camera. The commit map the reported
key event to mic mute for making userspace can work as before, "Mic
Mute" dialog pop-up while the mic mute button is pressed.

  [Test Plan]

   * Use a Dell machine, which has Dell privacy function, and press mic mute
key.
GUI will pop up "Mic Mute" icon.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * This change adds key event mapping in hwdb, which won't impact
  other hardware.

any regression would likely cause problems with key(s) from the
specific dell kb matching the modified listing in the hw db.

  [Other Info]

   * The change can only work with kernel commit on some specific hardware, ex.
Latitude 9520. The commit series is
"hardware-privacy-implementation-for-dell-laptop" in alsa-devel kernel tree.
     https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/alsa-devel/list/?series=465445
   * This change has been verified on Dell machine.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1928360] Re: Switch to Fcitx 5 for Chinese

2021-05-24 Thread Seth Arnold
Gunnar, indeed, it had much less in it than I expected; I don't know
much about the snap packaging for Chromium, but it looked to me like it
was trying to do bluetooth things and that's all that was denied.

I'm no fcitx expert but I didn't think it looked related.

Thanks

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1929456] Re: XrandR does not propose 21:9 resolution

2021-05-24 Thread Sebastian
As I said, the workaround worked. To help others looking for a solution
and finding this bug, I will show it here for my configuration:

1.) Open a terminal

2.) Call xrandr to see, how your desired device is called. In my case,
it's called "HDMI-1". If you have more than one, you may guess, but
output should by clear enough.

3.) Call cvt with desired resolution and frequency. In my case it must
be 2560x1080 with 30 (Hz), If you are unsure you have to try (I tried 60
Hz first - didn't work in the last step no. 6):

cvt 2560 1080 30

Output in my case is

# 2560x1080 29.97 Hz (CVT) hsync: 33.03 kHz; pclk: 106.75 MHz
Modeline "2560x1080_30.00" 106.75 2560 2640 2896 3232 1080 1083 1093 1102
-hsync +vsync

4.) Call xrandr to set new mode, copy everything after "Modeline":

xrandr --newmode "2560x1080_30.00" 106.75 2560 2640 2896 3232 1080
1083 1093 1102 -hsync +vsync

(The name in quotation marks could be changed, but no need to do so.)

5.) Call xrandr to add this mode by it's name to your desired device:

xrandr --addmode HDMI-1 2560x1080_30.00

6.) Call xrandr to set your desired device (here. HDMI-1) to the mode

xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 2560x1080_30.00

Instead of step 6 via terminal you could use the GUI to change the resolution,
it should be there now.

Hope this may help somebody.

It is not persistent. I made a script and added it to autostart. There
may be other ways, maybe a config file for xrandr?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1929125] Re: lib32z1 cannot be installed on ubuntu 20.04 LTS

2021-05-24 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1926918 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1926918

>My mind somehow converted 2.33 into 2.3.3

No problem. I had to double check the numbers, so I can see why you came
to that conclusion :)

> libc6-i386 : Depends: libc6 (= 2.31-0ubuntu9.2) but 2.31-0ubuntu9.3 is
to be installed

Ok, so this explains things. This is a known issue, already reported as
bug 1926918. The short version is that 2.31-0ubuntu9.3 was released as
an upgrade, but some regresions were discovered so the upgrade was
removed again. In the meantime, people who installed it before it was
removed might run into issues when attempting to install new libc*
packages because the versions doesn't matched with what is already
installed.

While I haven't tried it myself, the other bug report also suggests
manually installing/going back to version 2.31-0ubuntu9.2. I would check
the output of the command before running it in case it affects (or tries
to remove) other packages, though that sounds unlikely as it is undoing
an upgrade which no longer exists to go back to the previous version.

Is it possible Ubuntu is asking for a version of a dependency so high
  that it doesn't even exist?

The reason I'm installing a 32-bit package is it's required for
  Android Studio installation process:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1309535] Re: Running without pam-kwallet installed issues a warning in auth.log

2021-05-24 Thread Olivier Duclos
The correct way to fix this issue is not to comment out the lines
mentioning kwallet, but to make the modules silent by prepending a '-'
(dash) to each line. Example:

# /etc/pam.d/lightdm
-authoptionalpam_kwallet.so
-authoptionalpam_kwallet5.so
-session optionalpam_kwallet.so auto_start
-session optionalpam_kwallet5.so auto_start

Same in /etc/pam.d/lightdm-greeter.

This feature is mentioned in the pam.conf(5) manpage:

If the type value from the list above is prepended with a - character
the PAM library will not log to the system log if it is not possible to
load the module because it is missing in the system. This can be useful
especially for modules which are not always installed on the system and
are not required for correct authentication and authorization of the
   login session.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
Calling update() or installing packages from apt clients resets their SIGINT
and SIGQUIT handlers to SIG_DFL, overriding any signal handlers they might have
set for them.

In case of ubuntu-release-upgrader, this results in the release
upgrader being unable to handle interrupts after it did the initial
update - the default libc handler will run and the program exits.

  [Test plan]

  [[apt]]
As a standalone test for apt, we can test the following script:

  import apt
  import time

  apt.Cache().update()
  print("WAITING")
  try:
  time.sleep(1)
  except BaseException as e:
  print("Seen", repr(e))
  print("END")

Pressing Ctrl+C while WAITING is printed should print Seen
KeyboardInterrupt, and importantly, also the END line.

  [[ubuntu-release-upgrader]]
  1) On an Ubuntu 18.04 system run do-release-upgrade in a terminal.
  2) At the "Do you want to start the upgrade?" question say Y.
  3) When you see the "Lock screen disabled" message you will also see
"Inhibiting until Ctrl+C is pressed".
  4) Press "Ctrl+C"

Your /etc/apt/sources.list file will now have focal in it instead of
bionic although the upgrade has quit. With the version of ubuntu-
release-upgrader in -proposed you will not see the "Ctrl+C" message.
For your sources.list file to be restored you'll need the version of
apt from bionic-proposed installed before starting the upgrade.

  [Where problems could occur]
apt: This specific change removes the two lines that SIG_DFL the signal
handlers after running scripts. AFAWCT those lines are unnecessary - the code
that calls it temporarily sets the handlers to SIG_IGN but restores previous
handlers at the end; it was wrongly refactored decades ago. A regression could
occur in that those signals will now continue to be ignored if we missed a spot.

ubuntu-release-upgrader: The change is wrapping a bunch of code in a
try: except: block so if the indentation was off the pyflakes /
pycodestyle tests would fail but autopkgtest will catch that.

  [Original bug report]
As a long-time-user of ?ubuntu, with apt-get as tool of choice for
updates/upgrades I wrote a daily script for updates, with 'dist-upgrade'.
In all earlier years, it wouldn't actually do an upgrade of a ?ubuntu
version; just all packages including new ones. Version updates had to be
initiated manually, and I was always asked if I really wanted the new ?ubuntu
version. Sounds appropriate.

Last night when it (dist-upgrade), it just gave me 20.04. No questions asked.
I for one consider this kind of intrusive, though.
It *might* have to make with me trying 'sudo do-release-upgrade -m desktop' a
number of times earlier; just to *check* if the upgrade was on offer; but this
is only a guess.

In *any* case, a pop-up asking "Are you sure? Are you connected
through an adequate pipe? Are you sitting with full batteries; better
a power supply?" would be convenient; since I am using my PC for
urgent duties, and didn't want to fiddle with unexpected upgrade bugs.

Bug description:
  [IMPACT]
There is a known issue in pam_tally2 which may cause an account to be lock
down even with correct password, in a busy node environment where simultaneous
logins takes place (https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/issues/71).

There are already two customer cases from Canonical clients
complaining about this behavior (00297697 and 00303806).

Also, potentially, this will cause further problems in the future,
since both STIG benchmarks and CIS benchmarks rely on pam_tally2 to
lock accounts when wrong passwords are used. And both benchmarks - but
specially STIG - requires use of a lot of audit rules, which can lead
  to the busy node environment.

The issue impacts all pam_tally2 versions distributed in all currently
supported Ubuntu versions and also the next unreleased one. Note that,
  according to https://github.com/linux-pam/linux-pam/issues/71, there
is no plan to fix this issue!

  [FIX]
This fix proposes to add pam_faillock module to the PAM package, so users of
pam_tally2 having issues can migrate to pam_faillock. We also plan to modify
the current STIG benchmarks to rely on pam_faillock instead of pam_tally2, but
in order to do so, we need the pam_faillock module to be available.

Note that we don't propose to remove pam_tally2, since not every user
  of this module is affected.

  [TEST]
Tested on a VM installed with Focal server iso and on another with Bionic
server iso. Enabled pam_faillock module as recommeded by its man page. Then
tried to log over ssh with an incorrect password, until the account got locked.
Waited for the configured grace time to unlock and logged in using the correct
password.

Note that, since the pam_tally2 issue is caused by a racing condition,
with a hard to recreate environment (we could not even reproduce it
with pam_tally2), we could not reproduce the conditions to test
  pam_faillock with.

  [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
The regression potential for this is small, since we're not removing the old
pam_tally2 module, just adding another one. So anyone still using pam_tally2
will be able to do so.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1898026] Re: interruption of dist-upgrade can leave you next release in sources.list

2021-05-24 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello udippel, or anyone else affected,

Accepted ubuntu-release-upgrader into groovy-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/ubuntu-release-upgrader/1:20.10.16 in a few hours, and then in the
-proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
groovy to verification-done-groovy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-groovy.

  [Test plan]

  [[apt]]
As a standalone test for apt, we can test the following script:

  import apt
  import time

  apt.Cache().update()
  print("WAITING")
  try:
  time.sleep(1)
  except BaseException as e:
  print("Seen", repr(e))
  print("END")

It *might* have to make with

This upload will trigger many autopkgtests that we expect to not be
  regressed by this upload.

[ What could go wrong ]

This update contains fixes in multiple places so multiple apps could
be affected. The consequences of a broken GLib can range from some
functions returning bad results sometimes, which have minimal runtime
implications, up to the system simply crashing all the time.

Pretty much all parts of GNOME use GLib, so test anything in the
desktop that you can. If you reboot the machine and can get to the
desktop, that's already tested GLib extensively. But also run
applications like GNOME terminal, Files and Epiphany.

Title:
LG 31MU97-B Black 31" 4K Monitor not detected properly

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
4K monitor is not properly detected.

using xfce desktop "Display" utility, my monitor is detected as
"Goldstar Company Ltd 27" with a resolution of 3840x2160 and 60.0Hz

The actual monitor is an LG 31MU97-B Black 31" with a resolution of
  4096x2160.

I'm pretty sure the Monitor's resolution was properly detected in 15.10
(4096x2160). It was called "Goldstar Company Ltd" but
I do not recall which size was detected. (27" or 31")

I remember seeing a 4K youtube video in 15.10 and noting the black
bands on each side of the display, due to the difference between 3840
  and 4096.

Title:
X server crash when pasting selection using middle button in Chromium

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  Description: Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS
  Release: 14.04

  xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu8.1

Select any text; use middle button to paste selection in Chromium (I
observed it pasting in URL bar or in any form text input field,
including previous attempt to report this bug :) ). Session crashes.

It does not happen, when either pasting into different application
(like terminal) or wen use Copy - Paste instead of middle button.

I noticed it about a week ago, so it must be some recent change; I use
selection paste often enough to notice something like this before.

Title:
MatchIsTouchscreen also matches touchpads in 16.04

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
Previously in 15.10 I had the following rule in
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-no-touchscreen.conf:
  Section "InputClass"
  Identifier "Touchscreen disable"
  MatchIsTouchscreen "on"

  Option "Ignore" "on"
  EndSection

This worked in disabling the touchpad on my lenovo T440s

After the upgrade to 16.04 I noticed that my touchpad would not work. And I
found the following lines in the log:
[ 3107.956] (II) config/udev: Adding input device SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
(/dev/input/event6)
[ 3107.956] (**) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Ignoring device from InputClass
"Touchscreen disable"
[ 3107.956] (II) config/udev: Adding input device SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad
(/dev/input/mouse0)
[ 3107.956] (**) SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad: Ignoring device from InputClass
"Touchscreen disable"

So I had to disable the rule in order to be able to use the touchpad,
and now I can't disable the touchscreen.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1581270] Re: Hybrid Graphics: [drm:si_resume [radeon]] *ERROR* si startup failed on resume

2021-05-24 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu.
Ubuntu 16.04 (xenial) reached end of standard support in April 2021:

  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

If you would like to continue with free support then please update to a
newer Ubuntu version and tell us if the problem still occurs.

If you would like to continue with Ubuntu 16.04 then there is a paid
support option detailed at https://www.ubuntu.com/esm

Title:
Hybrid Graphics: [drm:si_resume [radeon]] *ERROR* si startup failed on
  resume

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
dmesg shows issues with being able to use the discrete graphics card
  (relevant dmesg lines attached).

Grub does pass "radeon.modeset=1" but it doesn't seem to make a
difference. If I pass both "radeon.modeset=1" and "radeon.startpm=1"to
the kernel, then it does not error (except for the VCE error -110,
  which is probably harmless).

  Running `DRI_PRIME=1 glxgears`:
  - with "radeon.modeset=1" and "radeon.startpm=1", no error but only a black
window with a visible top bar.
  - with just "radeon.modeset=1", error (attached as 'glxgears').

Results are similar on Ubuntu GNOME 16.04, except with
"radeon.modeset=1" and "radeon.startpm=1" set. It works, but lots of
  screen tearing.

Attached are relevant dmesg lines, grep'd with 'drm'. I'll also be
attaching entire contents of dmesg, /var/log/syslog, etc., but TLDR:
