[Touch-packages] [Bug 1265588] Re: Please Use Another Weather Channel

2021-07-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package libgweather - 40.0-3

---
libgweather (40.0-3) experimental; urgency=medium

  * debian/control: Lower the breaks on an installable gnome-shell version.
While libgweather 40 really breaks gnome-shell prior to 40, we can lower
the breaks so that we can upload a fixed gnome 3.38 version in order to
be able to upload one working with libgweather 40 without having to wait
for mutter-8 to be out of NEW queue.

Title:
  nm-online times out, failing autopkgtests

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  The nm-online util does not return successfully as of 1.32.2-0ubuntu1
  (currently in impish-proposed).

  systemd VS network-manager autopkgtests (in LXD) fail, because the
  autopkgtest-virt-lxd runner tries to wait for "network ready" before
  it is reconnecting after a reboot. This happens by checking the
  'systemctl start network-online.target' command, in turn executing the
  'nm-online -s -q' util (via NetworkManager-wait-online.service), in
  addition to systemd-networkd-wait-online.service (which seems to be
  working OK).

  nm-online does not return successfully anymore as of 1.32.2-0ubuntu1,
  but it times out. That is a regression compared to v1.30.

  Reproducer:
  $ lxc launch ubuntu-daily:impish test
  $ lxc exec test bash
  # apt install network-manager #(version 1.30.0-1ubuntu4)
  # time systemctl start network-online.target

  real  0m0.071s
  user  0m0.021s
  sys   0m0.023s
  # time nm-online -s
  Connecting...   30s [started]

  real  0m0.043s
  user  0m0.027s
  sys   0m0.006s
  root@test:~# echo $?
  0

  Everything is OK up to here.

  # vim /etc/apt/sources.list #(enable impish-proposed)
  # apt update && apt install network-manager #(1.32.2-0ubuntu1)
  # time nm-online -s
  Connecting...0s [startup-pending]

  real  0m30.019s
  user  0m0.021s
  sys   0m0.014s

  # time systemctl start network-online.target

  real  1m0.104s
  user  0m0.013s
  sys   0m0.023s
  # journalctl -u NetworkManager | grep startup
  Jul 15 09:05:06 test NetworkManager[1912]:   [1626339906.6507] manager:
startup complete
  root@test:~# NetworkManager -V
  1.32.2
  root@test:~# nm-online -s
  Connecting...0s [startup-pending]
  root@test:~# echo $?
  1
  root@test:~# nm-online
  Connecting...0s [offline]
  root@test:~# echo $?
  1

  The journal log contains the "startup completed" line, so 'nm-online
  -s' should return immediately. But as we can see, nm-online fails
  (after a timeout) and thus blocks network-online.target, failing the
  systemd autopkgtests (in LXD).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1934783] Re: Graphical glitches with Mesa 21.0.3 on AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT

2021-07-15 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I used the hirsute LiveCD again and it has mesa 21.0.1.

I refreshed apt but there wasn't any update of mesa. So I enabled
hirsute-proposed and upgraded mesa to 21.0.3.

Then I logged out and straight away there were glitches on the login
screen. I've logged in and confirmed that Gnome Shell and programs now
also have graphical glitches.

Then I used the ppa and it solved the problem. So I confirm that the fix
works.

But I didn't had problems with hirsute LiveCD.

I've tried the ppa with release changed to hirsute but focal can't be

  postinst: Rely on needrestart when present on the system

Status in pam package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  This patch bypasses the custom restarting logic backed into the
  postinst script if the needrestart utility is present, as it allows
  sharing the logic with the rest of the system.

  It also changes the custom logic to compare the old package version to
  the current one instead of a hard-coded value. I don't feel
  particularly strongly about this, so feel free to drop it :)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1929854] Re: Vital and critical configuration files get overridden by system updates without warning

2021-07-15 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
sshd_config is user modifyable and maintained. Some options can be
changed using dpkg-reconfigure openssh-server but otherwise changes to
it should be preserved.

Can you please provide steps to reproduce changes to sshd_config getting
lost?

  Vital and critical configuration files get overridden by system
  updates without warning

Status in grub2 package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in libx11 package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in openssh package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  • In my /usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose I have about 10'000 lines
of special compose keys defined.
  • In my /boot/grub/grub.cfg I have a very complicated special setup for my
various boot configurations, and a 5-sec timout for my EFI-config.
  • My /etc/ssh/sshd_config contains a well-balanced configuration

  All these files are regularly overridden WITHOUT EVEN A SINGLE WARNING
  or ASKING BACK by ubuntu system setups (discover).

  I set all of them to read-only by root and no-access for group and
  other users, but they still get overridden by every other system
  update. I even have a shutdown process in place which should actually
  make sure that changes to these files are reverted by writing a backup
  copy over any newly installed override — unfortunately, everything I
  did to run either a custom shutdown process or a startup process with
  systemd turned out to not work and be a nightmare to make work.

  How somebody could be as bold as to override vital configuration files
  like this without even asking for consent is one of the strange
  miracles in this world which I'll probably never understand. However,
  if "ubuntu" is really what it translates to, it should take a little
  bit more care about pre-existing configurations on systems on which it
  is set up and running well — until one system update suddenly
  jeopardizes the functioning of the entire system. I'm pretty sure
  these are not the only configuration files which are carelessly just
  overridden. They're just the ones every other update breaks my system
  and inflinges on my the costs of hours of research until I find out
  that — of course — it was an overridden critical system configuration
  again. The really mean thing is that you don't notice anything when
  you run the update … only next time you start your system and of
  course are not aware anymore that you did a system update, the new
  (absolutely wrong and/or insufficent) settings are in place and shoot
  you in the leg.

  Take an example from gentoo's etc-update feature which lets you merge
  new configuration files with pre-existing ones using a diff3-update.
  I went away from gentoo for other reasons, but I always praised that
  feature.

  Please make sure immediately that critical configuration files do not
  get overridden if they are non-writable by root, and then gradually
  introduce a system that merges changes to configuration files with the
  current situation on the target system. Or at least present the
  configs that would be changed in a particular directory, so that
  anybody who is interested in preserving local settings could merge
  them in a suitable way.

  Thanks

/boot/grub/grub.cfg is a generated file that must not be modified by
hand. Instead one is supposed to modify things like /etc/default/grub

  [regression potential]

  as this sets NO_ASM any regression would likely involve changed
  performance or architecture-specific failures

  [racb] As NO_ASM switches code implementations inside gzip, it's
  possible that this regresses behaviour if a bug exists in the C
  implementation but not in the assembly implementation. However in
  mitigation the C implementation has been in use since Focal, and it
  doesn't look like anything relevant to this change has been changed
  since Bionic.

  [scope]

  this is needed only in b

  this was fixed in debian at version 1.9-2.1, so this is fixed already
  in f and later

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Some IOT products use wireless modems which can be working only when
  recent versions of the ModemManager suite are used.

  The following 2 modems need the ModemManager suite to be upgraded:
  * Foxconn SDX55 T99W175 5G sub6 PCIE Modem
  * Quectel SDX24 EM160R-GL 4G LTE CAT16 PCIE Modem

  The main fix requested is to add the FCC unlock mechanism for Foxconn modems.
  * FCC unlock operation for Foxconn modems

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/merge_requests/534/commits
  * dms: new 'Foxconn Set FCC authentication' command

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/libqmi/-/merge_requests/254/commits

  The minimum versions of the ModemManager suite required to enable the support
for the above 2 mentioned modems have been verified: (LP: #1928665)
  * ModemManager: 1.16.6
  * libmbim: 1.24.8
  * libqmi : 1.28.6

  The ModemManager suite in the Impish release meets the requirements.

  [Test Plan]

  = How to Reproduce the Bug =

  Execute the following commands to list the modems detected by
  ModemManager in Hirsute and Focal releases:

  $ mmcli --list-modems
  No modems were found

  = Test Procedure =

  1. Install the Ubuntu system on the tested hardware

    The following images will be used to verify the version of the ModemManager
suite:
    * Impish:
https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/impish-desktop-amd64.iso
    * Hirsute: https://releases.ubuntu.com/21.04/ubuntu-21.04-desktop-amd64.iso
    * Focal:
https://releases.ubuntu.com/focal/ubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop-amd64.iso

  2. Upgrade the kernel and driver ( for Foxconn and Quectel modem )

    The kernel needs to get some patches from 5.13 and includes a back ported
Quectel driver to support these 2 modems.
    We have prepared a kernel packages for testing:
https://people.canonical.com/~mschiu77/lp1928665/v2/

  3. Install the ModemManager suite ( for Hirsute and Focal releases )

    The ModemManager suite will be installed from the -proposed
  component:

  $ sudo apt update
  $ sudo apt install modemmanager
  $ sudo apt install libqmi-utils

  4. Execute the following commands

  4.1 Get the run-time environment

  $ uname -ar
  $ lsb_release -a
  $ mmcli -V
  $ qmicli -V

  4.2 Check the status of the ModemManager service

  $ sudo systemctl status ModemManager.service

  4.3 List the detected modems

  $ mmcli --list-modems

  4.4 Check the modem’s status

  $ mmcli --modem 0

  4.5 Install and execute Lenovo’s FCC unlock app ( for Quectel modem
  only )

  $ sudo snap install --devmode --dangerous dpr-wwan_1.0-wwan-
  test_amd64.snap

  4.6 Enable the detected modem

  $ sudo mmcli --modem 0 --enable

  4.7 Check the modem’s status

  $ mmcli --modem 0

  = Analyze the Tested Result =

  1. Check if installed packages are working

    The result of test procedure 4.1 and 4.2 can be used to make sure the
installed packages are working.
    If the Modemmanager.service is active(running), the packages are working.

  2. Check if the supported modem can be detected

    The result of test procedure 4.3 can be used to see if the modem can be
detected by ModemManager or not.
    The supported modems should be listed.

  3. Check if the modem can be enabled

    If the modem can be enabled, the state of the modem in the test
  procedure 4.7 will be set to be registered.

  = Certification Validation =

  Additionally to the aforementioned test cases, the Certification Team
  will perform some coverage testing across supported devices to make
  sure the other modems still work as expected.

  [Where problems could occur]

  There is a risk that modems supported in the old versions of
  ModemManager suite may not be supported in the newer versions.

  [Other Info]

  We need to upgrade to these 3 packages (in Impish) at the same time:
  * ModemManager: 1.16.6
  * libmbim: 1.24.8
  * libqmi : 1.28.6

  To support the mentioned 2 modems, the system needs to use kernels which
include specific patches and kernel config options .
  For ex., there is a patched 5.11 kernel which is working for:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1906741] Re: Firefox sometimes causes garbled audio

2021-07-15 Thread Donna Whisnant
Once I discovered the connection with speech-dispatcher on my system (as
noted above), I did some related searches and found a reddit article
(https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/7n5vn6/linux_firefox_and_speechdispatcher_are_making/)
related to this that indicates if you disable both the webspeech option
and the reader it solves it:

reader.parse-on-load.enabled false
media.webspeech.synth.enabled false

And this also seems to be a duplicate (or at least related) bug report to this
one:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/speech-dispatcher/+bug/1821439

And other variants of Linux are reporting Firefox speech-dispatcher issues as
well:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1936901

I had previously experimented with only the webspeech option, to no
avail, but I have now disabled both the webspeech option and the reader
on mine. So far, I haven't had any issues with garbled sound since, but
only time will tell. I suppose it would still be an issue for those who
need text-to-speech support on their system and can't disable these
things.

  Often times, after receiving a crash report, if I click the "Continue"
  button it doesn't launch the browser for me to submit my crash to
  launchpad.net.

  Because of this, I'd always like to copy the crash report to my
  clipboard before clicking the continue button, so that I can manually
  provide this information into a bug report to launchpad.net.

  However, this option is not available.

  More over, there is absolutely *no way* to copy any text from this
  crash report's dialog window!

  1) You cannot ctrl-a to select all.
  2) Ctrl-c doesn't copy anything
  3) Right-clicking doesn't produce a context menu where you can select "Copy".

  This is an unfinished design. You should always give the user the
  ability to copy any text displayed in the UI.

  Next to the "Show/Hide details" button, I suggest adding a "Copy to
  Clipboard" button. If not this, please offer some way to achieve this
  from the GUI.

  [Impact]
  Any application that requires access to X11 sockets for the Display may want
to include abstractions/X in the AppArmor rules, which usually will include
rules that we would want for access to the Display socket for X.

  However, an upstream regression was made by changes to the
  abstractions/X to remove the 'w' and leave it read only. This doesn't
  work - X11 needs readwrite on the sockets for it to properly interact
  with X11.

  This is a fundamental regression that has been fixed upstream.

  [Test Plan]

  Any application that needs X11 integration with apparmor rules should
  `#include `

  This is the problem with
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/torbrowser-
  launcher/+bug/1933886 - while the fix for that would be to add
  `#include ` in the ruleset, it will not function with
  the existing abstractions. This is our test case in Impish:

   - add `#include ` into
`/etc/apparmor.d/torbrowser.Browser.firefox` and the apparmor rule.
   - `sudo systemctl restart apparmor.service`
   - Attempt to run torbrowser with torbrowser-launcher, which should now
properly work with the revisions. Without, torbrowser-launcher 'starts' Tor
Browser but then it just segfaults and stops running.

  We don't have a full test case for Hirsute at this time.

  [Where problems could occur]

  Based on my understanding of X11 and the upstream AppArmor bugs on
  this (refer to comments), there is no breakage introduced by this, in
  fact the breakage was already introduced upstream, so this simply
  fixes and removes the breakage when an apparmor rule includes these X
  abstractions and need to write to the socket but can't.

  Therefore, I don't believe there are any 'problems' that can occur
  with this change.

  [Original Description]

  In Focal, abstractions/X has the following section in it:

    # the unix socket to use to connect to the display
    /tmp/.X11-unix/* rw,
    unix (connect, receive, send)
     type=stream
     peer=(addr="@/tmp/.X11-unix/X[0-9]*"),
    unix (connect, receive, send)
     type=stream
     peer=(addr="@/tmp/.ICE-unix/[0-9]*"),

  However, in Impish, this seems to have changed:

    # the unix socket to use to connect to the display
    /tmp/.X11-unix/* r,
    unix (connect, receive, send)
     type=stream
     peer=(addr="@/tmp/.X11-unix/X[0-9]*"),
    unix (connect, receive, send)
     type=stream
     peer=(addr="@/tmp/.ICE-unix/[0-9]*"),

  This in turn breaks torbrowser-launcher's Firefox from launching, even
  if we include the X abstractions, because the display sockets in
  /tmp/.X11-unix/* (X0 for Display :0 for example) are not read/write.

  This looks like a MAJOR regression by removing the permissions. Or
  has Impish apparmor not been updated for any Ubuntu specific changes?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1935617] Re: systemd autopkgtest broken on ppc64el with qemu 6.0

2021-07-15 Thread Christian Ehrhardt 
Still the systemd tests are very flaky.
I went through some re-runs and these last 7 tests all did test the very same
packages.

impish
  amd64
boot-and-services  (F 14% f  0% S  0% B  0% => P 85%/) ...F...
systemd-fsckd  (F  0% f  0% S 100% B  0% => P  0%/) SSS
upstream-1 (F 42% f  0% S  0% B  0% => P 57%/) FFF
upstream-2 (F 14% f  0% S  0% B  0% => P 85%/) F..

We see that the last three all were happy.
But formerly without any reason other than being flaky one (upstream-1) or the
other (upstream-2) or another (boot-and-services) failed.
If only we could re-trigger subtests only that would be much less wasted
test-time :-/

  I'm not sure yet if this is flaky or a real issue, but I'm filing it
  to avoid multiple people analyzing the same.

  The Qemu 6.0 upload
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu/1:6.0+dfsg-1~ubuntu2 triggers a test
failure like

https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/results/autopkgtest-impish/impish/ppc64el/s/systemd/20210708_223311_e3bbb@/log.gz

  I have tested the new qemu on ppc64 and it worked fine for device emulation
and migration cases.
  But this is suspicious.
  Of the last tests exactly and only those with the new qemu failed.

  impish
ppc64el
  tests-in-lxd   (F  5% f  0% S  0% B  0% => P 95%/)
F.F.
  systemd-fsckd  (F  0% f  0% S 100% B  0% => P  0%/)

  upstream-1 (F 15% f  0% S  0% B  0% => P 85%/)
F..F
  upstream-2 (F 12% f  0% S  0% B  0% => P 87%/)
F...

  For an insight in flakyness/reproducibility I've retriggered the missing qemu
and the non-qemu cases a few times. If those reproduce all-bad vs all-good
again this would further indicate a real issue.

  Unfortunately the ppc maas seems down right now and canonistack also
  isn't too nice this week - overall that inhibits the testing a bit :-/

  Add support for zstd

Status in initramfs-tools source package in Focal:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * initramfs-tools in impish has changed default initrd compression to
  zstd. To allow compressing and uncompressing such initrds on Focal LTS
  release we should backport zstd support in the mkinitramfs &
  unmkinitramffs tooling. For example ubuntu-cdimage uses unmkinitramfs
  tool to unpack and inspect impish initrds on a focal host.

   * Cherrypicking the feature from 0.138 release, which is also present
  in Hirsute and Impish.

  [Test Plan]

   * Create initrd with zstd $ mkinitramfs -c zstd -o zstd-initrd.img

   * Uncompress it with $ unmkinitramfs ./zstd-initrd.img zstd-initrd-
  unpacked

   * For bionic also repeat the same with lz4.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * This adds support for zstd compressed initrd in both mkinitramfs
  and unmkinitramfs. However our GA kernels do not support zstd
  compressed initrds. And depends on zstd package is not added either.
  Meaning one still has to install zstd to gain the unpack support.
  Changing initramfs.conf to zstd may result in unbootable instance when
  used with GA kernel.

Title:
  nm-online times out, failing autopkgtests

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  The nm-online util does not return successfully as of 1.32.2-0ubuntu1
  (currently in impish-proposed).

  systemd VS network-manager autopkgtests (in LXD) fail, because the
  autopkgtest-virt-lxd runner tries to wait for "network ready" before
  it is reconnecting after a reboot. This happens by checking the
  'systemctl start network-online.target' command, in turn executing the
  'nm-online -s -q' util (via NetworkManager-wait-online.service), in
  addition to systemd-networkd-wait-online.service (which seems to be
  working OK).

  nm-online does not return successfully anymore as of 1.32.2-0ubuntu1,
  but it times out. That is a regression compared to v1.30.

  Reproducer:
  $ lxc launch ubuntu-daily:impish test
  $ lxc exec test bash
  # apt install network-manager #(version 1.30.0-1ubuntu4)
  # time systemctl start network-online.target

  real  0m0.071s
  user  0m0.021s
  sys   0m0.023s
  # time nm-online -s
  Connecting...   30s [started]

  real  0m0.043s
  user  0m0.027s
  sys   0m0.006s
  root@test:~# echo $?
  0

  Everything is OK up to here.

  # vim /etc/apt/sources.list #(enable impish-proposed)
  # apt update && apt install network-manager #(1.32.2-0ubuntu1)
  # time nm-online -s
  Connecting...0s [startup-pending]

  real  0m30.019s
  user  0m0.021s
  sys   0m0.014s

  # time systemctl start network-online.target

  real  1m0.104s
  user  0m0.013s
  sys   0m0.023s
  # journalctl -u NetworkManager | grep startup
  Jul 15 09:05:06 test NetworkManager[1912]:   [1626339906.6507] manager:
startup complete
  root@test:~# NetworkManager -V
  1.32.2
  root@test:~# nm-online -s
  Connecting...0s [startup-pending]
  root@test:~# echo $?
  1
  root@test:~# nm-online
  Connecting...0s [offline]
  root@test:~# echo $?
  1

  The journal log contains the "startup completed" line, so 'nm-online
  -s' should return immediately. But as we can see, nm-online fails
  (after a timeout) and thus blocks network-online.target, failing the
  systemd autopkgtests (in LXD).

This is documented behavior due to in which order the various

In other words, you have to set Dir::Ignore-Files-Silently in a config

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Some IOT products use wireless modems which can be working only when
  recent versions of the ModemManager suite are used.

  The following 2 modems need the ModemManager suite to be upgraded:
  * Foxconn SDX55 T99W175 5G sub6 PCIE Modem
  * Quectel SDX24 EM160R-GL 4G LTE CAT16 PCIE Modem

  The main fix requested is to add the FCC unlock mechanism for Foxconn modems.
  * FCC unlock operation for Foxconn modems

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/merge_requests/534/commits
  * dms: new 'Foxconn Set FCC authentication' command

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/libqmi/-/merge_requests/254/commits

  The minimum versions of the ModemManager suite required to enable the support
for the above 2 mentioned modems have been verified: (LP: #1928665)
  * ModemManager: 1.16.6
  * libmbim: 1.24.8
  * libqmi : 1.28.6

  The ModemManager suite in the Impish release meets the requirements.

  [Test Plan]

  = How to Reproduce the Bug =

  Execute the following commands to list the modems detected by
  ModemManager in Hirsute and Focal releases:

  $ mmcli --list-modems
  No modems were found

  = Test Procedure =

  1. Install the Ubuntu system on the tested hardware

    The following images will be used to verify the version of the ModemManager
suite:
    * Impish:
https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/impish-desktop-amd64.iso
    * Hirsute: https://releases.ubuntu.com/21.04/ubuntu-21.04-desktop-amd64.iso
    * Focal:
https://releases.ubuntu.com/focal/ubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop-amd64.iso

    The ModemManager suite will be installed from the -proposed
  component:

  $ sudo apt update
  $ sudo apt install modemmanager
  $ sudo apt install libqmi-utils

  4. Execute the following commands

  4.1 Get the run-time environment

  $ uname -ar
  $ lsb_release -a
  $ mmcli -V
  $ qmicli -V

  4.2 Check the status of the ModemManager service

  $ sudo systemctl status ModemManager.service

  4.3 List the detected modems

  $ mmcli --list-modems

  4.4 Check the modem’s status

  $ mmcli --modem 0

  4.5 Install and execute Lenovo’s FCC unlock app ( for Quectel modem
  only )

  $ sudo snap install --devmode --dangerous dpr-wwan_1.0-wwan-
  test_amd64.snap

  4.6 Enable the detected modem

  $ sudo mmcli --modem 0 --enable

  4.7 Check the modem’s status

  $ mmcli --modem 0

  * ModemManager: 1.16.6
  * libmbim: 1.24.8
  * libqmi : 1.28.6

  To support the mentioned 2 modem

Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Some IOT products use wireless modems which can be working only when
  recent versions of the ModemManager suite are used.

  The following 2 modems need the ModemManager suite to be upgraded:
  * Foxconn SDX55 T99W175 5G sub6 PCIE Modem
  * Quectel SDX24 EM160R-GL 4G LTE CAT16 PCIE Modem

  The main fix requested is to add the FCC unlock mechanism for Foxconn modems.
  * FCC unlock operation for Foxconn modems

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/ModemManager/-/merge_requests/534/commits
  * dms: new 'Foxconn Set FCC authentication' command

https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mobile-broadband/libqmi/-/merge_requests/254/commits

  The minimum versions of the ModemManager suite required to enable the support
for the above 2 mentioned modems have been verified: (LP: #1928665)
  * ModemManager: 1.16.6
  * libmbim: 1.24.8
  * libqmi : 1.28.6

  The ModemManager suite in the Impish release meets the requirements.

  [Test Plan]

  = How to Reproduce the Bug =

  Execute the following commands to list the modems detected by
  ModemManager in Hirsute and Focal releases:

  $ mmcli --list-modems
  No modems were found

  = Test Procedure =

  1. Install the Ubuntu system on the tested hardware

    The following images will be used to verify the version of the ModemManager
suite:
    * Impish:
https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/impish-desktop-amd64.iso
    * Hirsute: https://releases.ubuntu.com/21.04/ubuntu-21.04-desktop-amd64.iso
    * Focal:
https://releases.ubuntu.com/focal/ubuntu-20.04.2.0-desktop-amd64.iso

    The ModemManager suite will be installed from the -proposed
  component:

  $ sudo apt update
  $ sudo apt install modemmanager
  $ sudo apt install libqmi-utils

  4. Execute the following commands

  4.1 Get the run-time environment

  $ uname -ar
  $ lsb_release -a
  $ mmcli -V
  $ qmicli -V

  4.2 Check the status of the ModemManager service

  $ sudo systemctl status ModemManager.service

  4.3 List the detected modems

  $ mmcli --list-modems

  4.4 Check the modem’s status

  $ mmcli --modem 0

  4.5 Install and execute Lenovo’s FCC unlock app ( for Quectel modem
  only )

  $ sudo snap install --devmode --dangerous dpr-wwan_1.0-wwan-
  test_amd64.snap

  4.6 Enable the detected modem

  $ sudo mmcli --modem 0 --enable

  4.7 Check the modem’s status

  $ mmcli --modem 0

  * ModemManager: 1.16.6
  * libmbim: 1.24.8
  * libqmi : 1.28.6

  To support the mentioned 2 modems, the system needs to use kernels which
include specific patches and kernel config options .
  For ex., there is a patched 5.11 kernel which is working for

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1936312] [NEW] nm-online times out, failing autopkgtests

2021-07-15 Thread Lukas Märdian
Public bug reported:

The nm-online util does not return successfully as of 1.32.2-0ubuntu1
(currently in impish-proposed).

systemd VS network-manager autopkgtests (in LXD) fail, because the
autopkgtest-virt-lxd runner tries to wait for "network ready" before it
is reconnecting after a reboot. This happens by checking the 'systemctl
start network-online.target' command, in turn executing the 'nm-online
-s -q' util (via NetworkManager-wait-online.service), in addition to
systemd-networkd-wait-online.service (which seems to be working OK).

nm-online does not return successfully anymore as of 1.32.2-0ubuntu1,
but it times out. That is a regression compared to v1.30.

Reproducer:
$ lxc launch ubuntu-daily:impish test
$ lxc exec test bash
# apt install network-manager #(version 1.30.0-1ubuntu4)
# time systemctl start network-online.target

real0m0.071s
user0m0.021s
sys 0m0.023s
# time nm-online -s
Connecting...   30s [started]

real0m0.043s
user0m0.027s
sys 0m0.006s
root@test:~# echo $?
0

Everything is OK up to here.

# vim /etc/apt/sources.list #(enable impish-proposed)
# apt update && apt install network-manager #(1.32.2-0ubuntu1)
# time nm-online -s
Connecting...0s [startup-pending]

real0m30.019s

sys 0m0.014s

# time systemctl start network-online.target

root@test:~# echo $?

root@test:~# nm-online
Connecting...0s [offline]

The journal log contains the "startup completed" line, so 'nm-online -s'
should return immediately. But as we can see, nm-online fails (after a
timeout) and thus blocks network-online.target, failing the systemd
autopkgtests (in LXD).

  Suspend to hibernate is a new feature that will put the system into
  hibernate after a period of time spent in the system's supported sleep

  This feature is available in upstream systemd from these two commits.

  This is accepted upstream.

  The policy needs to be made available to gnome from this commit:
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-settings-daemon/merge_requests/9
  As of 3/15/2018 this is not yet accepted or rejected.

  The new mode is not selected by default, but that can be changed from a
separate policy package.
  The policy for the amount of time spent in S3/S2I can be configured by a

 problems with systemd. One example is that the user with
 this type of name can log in, but loginctl will not create
 a session for them.

 environment

  [Test Case]

   * `useradd 123` (this command should succeed)
   * `userdel 123` to clean up the user that was just added
   * Install `shadow` from -proposed
   * `useradd 123` should now fail

  [Regression Potential]
   * If there were a logic error in the fix, it is possible
 that valid usernames would now be disallowed.
   * Many test cases have been added to ensure this is not
 the case, and --badnames would still provide a work-around

  [Original Description]

  Fully numeric names support in Ubuntu is inconsistent in Focal onwards
  because systemd does not like them[1] but are still allowed by default
  by useradd, leaving the session behavior in hands of the running
  applications. Two examples:

  1. After creating a user named "0", the user can log in via ssh or
  console but loginctl won't create a session for it:

  root@focal:/home/ubuntu# useradd -m 0
  root@focal:/home/ubuntu# id 0
  uid=1005(0) gid=1005(0) groups=1005(0)

  0pts/0192.168.122.116:170.00s  0.00s  0.00s w

  And pam-systemd shows the following message:

  Apr 08 16:17:06 focal sshd[1584]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for
user 0 by (uid=0)
  Apr 08 16:17:06 focal sshd[1584]: pam_systemd(sshd:session): pam-systemd
initializing
  Apr 08 16:17:06 focal sshd[1584]: pam_systemd(sshd:session): Failed to get
user record: Invalid argument

  2. With that same username, every successful authentication in gdm
  will loop back to gdm again instead of starting gnome, making the user
  unable to login.

  Making useradd fail (unless --badnames is set) when a fully numeric
  name is used will make the default OS behavior consistent.

  [Other info]

  - Upstream does not support fully numeric usernames
  - useradd has a --badnames parameter that would still allow the use of these
type of names

2. Turn off Wi-Fi via UI
3. Select Bluetooth column

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1936299] Re: ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS apt update "Unknown error executing apt-key"

2021-07-15 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Make sure that _apt user can read all files in /etc/apt/trusted.gpg.d
and /etc/apt/trusted.gpg and any key files you might have specified via
signed-by in sources.list.

By disabling the sandboxing, it makes it easier for an attacker that
controls the http server to make use of vulnerabilities in the HTTP,
TLS, GPG stacks as they process this untrusted data as root instead of
an unprivileged user (ok, there is another APT-specific escape hatch in
the sandbox that also needs fixing, but still, improves security
somewhat).

Do we need a new test case? The existing one was already verified as
working on focal and hirsute according to bug 1933221.

All servers are on AWS and facing the same issue on multiple servers.
unable to update server. I have spent many days troubleshooting this
issue. but did not find a solution.

but at Last, i got this command

echo 'APT::Sandbox::User "root";' >/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/00temp
it works and now i can update repository.

Q.1 Why I have to run this command? anyone knows the exact reason behind this.
Q.2 Is this a type of security hole?

  apt-key works fine, yet apt fails with "Could not execute 'apt-key'"

Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Apt can fail to verify a Release file which verifies just fine when
  calling apt-key directly.

  Please advise how i can supply further debug information to help fix
  the underlying bug.

  Expected:
  apt-get should only report that a repository is not signed when no such
signature was found.
  If a signature was in fact successfully acquired but not verified, apt-get
should report failure to verify instead.
  apt-get should have a meaningful error message when calling apt-key fails.

  Bonus:
  Calling apt-key should not fail when the same thing works fine on command
line.
  A reference to "Debug::Acquire::gpgv" should be in apt-secure(8)
documentation.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1776381] Re: lxc-test-api-reboot will hang with autopkgtest

2021-07-15 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
I tried the following on a s390x LPAR instance with Bionic 4.15 kernel:
$ sudo lxc-create -t /usr/share/lxc/templates/lxc-busybox -n test
$ sudo lxc-ls
test
$ sudo lxc-start test
$ sudo lxc-attach test
# Make sure the container is running here

# Use another terminal on this instance to do lxc-stop
$ sudo lxc-stop test
lxc-stop: test: commands_utils.c: lxc_cmd_sock_rcv_state: 70 Resource
temporarily unavailable - Failed to receive message
$ echo $?
0

The container terminated.

Title:
  lxc-test-api-reboot will hang with autopkgtest

Status in ubuntu-kernel-tests:
  Confirmed
Status in lxc package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Steps:
    1. Deploy Bionic on a bare-metal system.
    2. Enable deb-src, install the autopkgtest package
    3. sudo autopkgtest lxc -- null

  Result:
    * The test will hang, a "reboot" lxc container will be created. The last
message on the screen will be:
  make[1]: Entering directory '/tmp/autopkgtest.JxRLRE/build.bSQ/src'
  make[1]: Nothing to be done for 'all-am'.
  make[1]: Leaving directory '/tmp/autopkgtest.JxRLRE/build.bSQ/src'
    * Tried to connect to the "reboot" container with "sudo lxc-console
reboot", but nothing there:
  Connected to tty 1
  Type to exit the console, to enter Ctrl+a
itself
    * If you kill the job and run it again, this time the test will go on (fail
with the lxc-test-api-reboot test, as the container has already been created)

  This issue can be reproduced on an amd64 box and a s390x zKVM.

Bug description:
  After upgrading linux-firmware from 1.190.5 to 1.197 (as part of the

  and severe GPU instability. When this happens, I see this error in
  dmesg:

  [20061.061189] amdgpu :03:00.0: amdgpu:  RW: 0x0

  I'll attach a couple of full dmesgs that I collected.

  Many of the times when this happens, the screen and keyboard freeze
  irreversibly (I tried waiting for more than 30 minutes, but it doesn't
  help). I can still log in via ssh though. When there's no freeze, I
  can continue using the computer normally, but the laptop fans keep
  running are always running and the battery depletes fast. There's
  probably something on a permanent loop either in the kernel or in the
  GPU.

  This bug happens several times a day, rendering the machine so
  unstable as to be almost unusable. It is a severe regression and I'm
  aghast that it passed AMD's Quality Assurance.

  After downgrading back to linux-firmware 1.190.5, the machine is back
  to the previous, mostly-reliable state. Which is to say, this bug is
  gone, I'm just left with the other amdgpu suspend bug I've learned to
  live with since I bought this computer.

  Please revert the amdgpu firmware in this package as soon as possible.
  This is unbearable.
